Deryn couldn't ever remember being in the Trophy Room before, but it was high time she was. Looking at all the previous Gryffindor Quidditch successes would pump her up for the upcoming season. She needed to do better this year. She'd let her team down enough in the past and she wasn't prepared to let it happen again. It was her last year as a Gryffindor and she wanted to make it special. The only thing that would do that would be a Quidditch triumph and Deryn was determined to achieve that goal.
Looking through all the cases, Deryn stopped at one year in particular. The winners of the Cup that year had been Gryffindor and there on the shiny trophy was a name that made her proud: Andrea Richards or more commonly known just as Mum. Grinning, Deryn leaned against the glass, looking at her mum's name. She hoped that this year, Deryn could make the woman proud.

"Fog the glass too much and the caretaker'll have you polishing everything in here for weeks." Corey claimed from the doorway with a small grin. He hadn't seen the fellow seventh year much since term started but then again he hadn't made much effort to either. It seemed that every time the two had crossed paths it had ended poorly. Poor was not on his agenda list today so maybe, just maybe he'd get lucky? Doubtful, but hey, it was Merlin's call.
For a moment he simply stared, his eyes scanning automatically over the room of prestige and awards. "So, this is it eh, last year, last chance to make names for ourselves within these halls...It feels weird." Alright, it didn't just feel weird, it felt downright depressing, but he was trying not to dwell on that deep a thought for too long. It would be bad enough when they got down to the last quarter of the year, why think like that now? It was after all, only October.
His eyes refocused themselves on the lioness for a moment and he smiled. Who knew, maybe this year they could ammend the ties of friendship that had been lost in the year past? It would be nice, kinda like an end of year resolution instead of a New Year's one? Sorta, maybe...eh...close enough.

Deryn chuckled softly as she heard a voice warning her. Turning her head slightly, the Gryffindor girl looked to see a fellow Lion coming into the Trophy Room. She flashed him a smile, trying to be as polite as she could. Things always seemed to end bad whenever they spoke so a good start should help. With a soft sigh, Deryn's head was soon resting against the glass again, not really caring if she actually had to clean it. That would only happen if she got caught.
"Weird?" Deryn repeated, humour in her voice, "More than weird, it's a little terrifying to be honest. We're running out of time too fast. I didn't think it would come so quickly." Turning once more, Deryn rested her shoulder against the glass now, crossed her arms and looked at the boy. She smiled again, remembering that a congratulations were in order. "Heard you got Head Boy," Deryn commented, still grinning, "Knew you would."

Terrifying? Well, he wouldn't go that far, nerve racking, maybe, scary, certainly, terrifying, no. Terrifying was facing a bunch of dark wizards with no wand. But since they didn't, and hopefully never would, have that he supposed graduating was the next closest thing in comparrison. Eh. It was one of those things he wouldn't think about until he got right to the actual threshold of it all. And by threshold it meant May.
"Maybe life forget to set it's own clock back an hour?" Corey replied with a small smile as the girl's eyes met his and then turned back to the glass. She'd technically already been caught but fogging glass wasn't throwing trophies across the room. Who really had to find out about it? So she knew he'd get Head Boy? Well that was certainly an interesting remark to make, a confident one at that. Confidence was good, confidence in him, that was better AND an ego boost.
"So you knew I'd get it hmm," the seventh year questioned while elaving his doorwya abode. "so why didn't you tell me? And, if I may be so curious, what has your attention co drawn on the other side of that glass?"

"I didn't really think I needed to tell you," Deryn replied simply, with a light shrug and a grin still playing on her lips, "But come on. Who else better to get it than you, right?" Was she flirting? OK, maybe a little, but Deryn wasn't making it too obvious. She tried to keep her expression one that was just happy for him, but she could feel that smirk working its way back onto her lips. Internally, she was telling herself to knock it off, but that was easier said than done.
However, when asked what had caught her attention in the trophy case, a proud grin quickly look over and she looked back at the trophy. She pointed to the name she'd been looking at but realized Corey probably couldn't see it from there. "Andrea Richards," Deryn explained, pride seeping through into her tone, "My mum. Won the Quidditch cup for Gryffindor that year. I was hoping my name would be on here one day. Keep the tradition going." Glancing back at Corey, Deryn's smile faded slightly. Gryffindor hadn't had the best of luck in Quidditch lately and Deryn knew it was partially her fault.
"You ready for this season?" she asked the Head Boy.

Who better to have it? He could think of two names right quick without killing too many braincells in the process. "Drew for starters, and Jackson and the cold-hearted bloke his house stereotype paints him from what I see of him." Corey countered with a slight shrug. "But, I suppose I got it for a reason..." and with what the Prophet said happened to Drew end past, I could argue points to give it to him. It didn't take much to find reasons not to give it to him, but for Corey himself he really couldn't think of much a reason for him to have it. Heck he was willing to bet him getting Head Boy had been entirely Raynor's doing. No one saw Ticloon anyways so it was doubtful she even knew he existed! Not that it mattered really, he'd be gone in eight months anyways.
As the lioness explained her heartfelt desire; Corey found a understanding smile of appreciation come onto his face. Not that he could see it himself, but he knew it was there. Tradition was a motivating thing, the sad part was, his commonly used brain cells couldn't think of anything that resembled a tradition in his life--unless you count Christmas and birthdays, but those didn't really count. The sadder part was that even his less commonly used braincells count't come up with anything.
"You ready for this season?" Now that was a question he didn't need to think about or quest for. That was the thing to answer. "Aye, I suppose so, ready as I'll ever be. First match is again' Ravenclaw isn' it?" Corey questioned, internally dreading the answer he already knew. Sure they'd lost half the Thornton power and McCrea, but did they still had more veteran players than any of the other teams and probably would still remain on top this year as well.
He wasn't throwing in the towel, but he sure wasn't getting his hopes up for a Gryffindor Cup victory this year either. He'd try, they all would, and no one could ask for more than that without needing to get their knickers untwisted.

"Yeah," Deryn answered, the solemnity evident in her tone as she spoke, "Not looking forward to that match." Ravenclaw had been the top team for too long now but it didn't seem as though anyone could knock them off their throne. With tradition and determination behind her, Deryn was ready to at least give it one hell of a try. Even the biggest failure beat the hell out of never trying. "Think we've got a chance?" she asked him with a frown, "There's a lot of new players this year. Do we have a shot?"

"Everyone has at least half their roster full of fresh blood except for Hufflepuff. They're the team to beat this year. I think we have a shot, it'll just take some work and some extra practices on our time. You can only get the entire team together so often anymore." Corey replied, eyes glancing toward the cup she'd indicated. It wasn't the quidditch cup he cared about though. He playted quidditch for the sake of playing. Right now they were far out infront for the House Cup, and if they could hold that lead steady there'd be no problem for an easy clinch. Maybe it was because they got the non-hyper firsties?
Either way they certainyl had a better shot for the House Cup thant hey did Quidditch. but hey, Corey omre than welcomed the challange. "You know, even if we don't get it, we can still say that we tried." Corey countered with a small grin. Fame and glory was great, but who said that without it you weren't winners?
