The topic of the class, Linear B, was written clearly on the board. Since this was an elective class, meaning there wouldn't be a lot of students in each class, Kenneth decided to put a round table in the room instead of the little rectangular tables. He hoped that way, students would be able to interact with him and each other better.
However, he also had a very important to do with this group of students, their O.W.L.s. From what he gathered, their background on runes might need some touch-up work. That he would have to determine.

Drew stepped into the class tentatively, his usually playful demeanor replaced by timidness. The last time he had set foot in this particular class, the professor had been called out. The next time he had seen her, she had been dead. Yeah, being back in Runes was a little nerve-wracking.
To top it off, he had been in a class with the older students, already having covered the basics of both the older and younger Futhark. The rest of the class had moved up to the OWL level, but he was still a year too early for that. Would he be the only one in the class? Again, nerve-wracking.
"Hullo..." he said, barely speaking above a mumble to the man behind the desk. "I'm Drew Thornton. Ravenclaw. I think I'm supposed to be here."

Tristan thinking about the murder last term got him worried about what is going to happen this term. But it was just last term so he had to get it off of his mind. All he knew that last term he chose Divination for awhile, now it was back to Runes.
Stumbling in he saw Drew talking to the professor. Oh boy, new professor.

"Have a seat Drew, we will do a general attendance later on," the professor replied with a nod. He had catch a glimpse of that very same boy dancing in the feast, so he wondered why he was all of a sudden so timid. He wondered if it had anything to do with the rumor he had been hearing.
The expression of the second student confirmed his speculation. He sighed softly, he hoped that was not going to distract the students too much.

"Okay," Drew mumbled back before making his way to his seat. He caught sight of Tristan and offered him a sympathetic smile. "Is this like really weird for you too?" he asked in a low voice. If anyone understood, the Gryffindor might.

Cameron walked into the classroom. "Whoa...new professors everywhere? Man!"Cameron said as she looked around. "Oh, hi professor. Cameron Chambers, Gryffindor." She sat down at the round table. She had a blank look on her face. Cameron looked at Tristan and smiled. Man....dude where is Benji when you need him? Cameron thought. She sort of smiled at that thought, but a few minutes later, a blank expression over came her face.

Dorf was once again walking and reading at the same time. Todays book was 'The Cup of The World' by John Dickinson and she was nearly done. But as she walked into the class she finished the paragraph and closed the book. She looked up from it's glistening cover and saw a few students were already there; they looked uncomfortable, and had every right to, but a new term, a new year, a new beginning. So Dorf strode up to the new teacher and extended her hand, with a broad smiled, "Morris, sir, Dorf Morris at your service."

He gave a small smile to the new professor when he looked at him. Then talking in low voice was Drew. "Yeah," he said nodding. He heard the part of 'We will do a general attendance later on' but seeing Cameron and some other Hufflepuff he hasn't met offered their names to the new professor.
"You think this class will be any good this year?" he asked Drew in a whisper.

"Dunno," Drew whispered back with a small shrug. He hadn't had a proper Runes lesson since Hailey had decided to become the librarian. It was hardly the fault of anyone. You really couldn't blame a dead woman.
The most frustrating thing was that this was the one class he couldn't rely on Allegra's notes. He had actually planned it that way and now was discovering that it was going to bite him in the butt. His sister was a precise student and Drew often used her things to get ahead, fill in holes, or just review the material. This time, he was on his own.

Alexis entered and there sat a new professor behind the desk. "How many new professors are we going to have?" Alexis thought to herself. Then again, last year's Ancient Runes teacher didn't last that long, literally. Figuring it was the polite thing to do, Alexis passed by the professor's desk and introduced herself after Dorf's James Bond greeting. "Alexis Linden, Hufflepuff." she smiled. Finally catching up to Dorf she asked, "Do you want to find a seat?"

Dorf smiled at the new professor and nodded in Alexis's direction. She turned and walked towards Alexis when she stood on her robe and fell onto her nose, book and bag flying. She jumped up and smiled shyly at everyone in the room, how embarrassing! she thought. She pulled herself straight and wiped her robes down. "Let's," she said to Alexis, while picking up her bag and her book.

Ken did feel Miss Morris' greeting was rather one of a kind, and only considered the student at least was happy to be in class, so that's a definite good sign. He nodded and smiled at them, and waited for them to settle down.
"Hello class, I am Professor Mason, your Ancient Runes professor," he addressed to the class, leaning on his desk a bit. "Before we start the class, why don't each of you tell me a bit about yourself and what you have learned about Ancient Runes so far?"

After talking to Drew, he saw that Professor Mason got up and greeted everyone. He looked around the class and didn't see many people here. They must of thought since this was a new Professor, they could skip, but then again it was a thought. After hearing what Tristan has learned about Ancient Runes so far, he had a good one.
"I learned your our new professor," he said grinning. That's all he knew for now.

Drew still wasn't in the right frame of mind to be quippy. If he had been a muggle, he would have sworn the ghost of Professor Thorne still lurked around the classroom.
He answered the question as straightforward as possible.
"Drew Thornton. Fifth year Ravenclaw. I've taken a year and a half of Runes already." He wasn't quite sure if last year counted, but he had gone over the subject even without a Professor. As for the half year on his record, no one needed to really hear that story.

Dorf smiled at Alexis as they sat down. Then their new professor stood and posed a question, one she had not been prepared for. A long holiday and a frazzled mind did not leave much for Ancient Runes. But she would have to try anyway. "Dorf Morris," she called, "Hufflepuff, and I think it's a bit soon to start thinking about what I know and don't know, Professor, so I'll let you know as soon as my mind has left the comfort of my trunk what I know." She then realized how stupid it was to say such a thing, "sorry," she blushed, "I didn't mean to sound so empty-headed, it's just that-" don't say anything else, you'll only make things worse, she thought and looked down at her table. "Sorry," she mumbled again.
