Once class had let out, Arianna shoved her things into her bag and booked it out of the room, waiting just outside the door. She was still smiling and it wasn't until that moment that she realized why. She had, in that short little time in which she passed notes, been flirting. Something she hadn't bothered to do in ages. Whether the boy had picked up on it was another story, though. How effectively could you flirt with someone through a silly cartoon and a short note without it being too obvious?
Bouncing slightly on her toes, Arianna craned her neck to see over the other students hustling by. Even though she was on the short side, Arianna didn't think she could be that hard to miss, but she would tackle the boy down if she saw him going off in the wrong direction.

Matthias had also packed up his stuff and headed out, but he wasn't nearly as quick about it as Arianna had been. Consequently, he got stuck in the throng of people trying to escape the classroom. Being shorter than average, he couldn't see over people to find the girl he was to meet, and he ended up turning the wrong way. Still looking around confusedly, he walked slowly down the corridor. Surely she was here somewhere. Would she call to him or something if she saw him before he saw her? Maybe she was back the other way and he'd missed her. The crowd had thinned out by now, but he still couldn't find her.

Of course it would be difficult to find Arianna. As soon as she had caught sight of the boy, she hadn't waved or called to him, but slipped through the crowd to follow closely behind him. If he looked left, she'd duck to the right. If he looked right, she'd head to the left. Arianna was trying to decide how long to let this go on before she tripped over her own feet and bumped into Matthias and wrapped her arms around him to keep from falling. It might not have worked, though. It might have been lucky that the kids had to wear robes to classes. Otherwise the boy might have found himself with his pants on the floor. XD

If Matthias had expected to be tackled from behind, he might have fared better. However, he hadn't expected anything of the sort, and that caused him to not quite be the best support to prevent Arianna from falling. He gave a short yelp of surprise as he went down. Lying on the floor, he looked over his right shoulder with a wry grin. "Hello to you, too," he said in a light tone. "Do you always tackle a person when you meet them? Or am I just lucky enough to get special treatment?" He kept his voice joking, so that she didn't think he was mad at her. He was really more amused than anything.

Arianna grinned at the boy. If she had landed just a few inches up and to the left and she could have kissed him on the cheek if she had so wished. Of course, it was way to soon to be considering the option. Arianna was certain tackling was more intimacy than either of them could handle.
"Special treatment, of course," Arianna continued grinning atop the boy for a moment before moving off of him and offering a hand up. "It's either that, or clumsiness, but that doesn't really boost your ego as much, does it?"

Matthias laughed a little as he rolled over and took the offered hand. "No, it doesn't. That's ok, though, my ego doesn't really need inflating." He didn't consider himself egocentric at all, but that didn't mean he needed to be. Fully standing by now, he realized he was still holding Arianna's hand and let go quickly. No need for anyone to think that there was anything going on. Feeling slightly awkward for a second, he asked, "So, you wanted to show me something?" With any luck, that would help alleviate some of the very slight discomfort he was feeling.

It took Arianna a moment to realize that the boy was talking to her. She hadn't noticed before that he was shorter than her. It wasn't much, but it was nice to be able to look a guy in the eyes without getting a crick in her neck.
"Oh...yeah," Arianna shook her head and set her bag on the ground so she could dig through it. First came the day's notes and homework, then her big artbox, several inkwells and broken quills, a few class books, then finally a large drawing book, which she set aside as she shoved everything else back in.
"I just started this one, so there isn't much in it," she commented, flipping through several pages of sketches before finding what she was looking for a quarter of the way through: a nice charcoal drawing of the Ravenclaw common room in which several Eagles were lounging. It could have been fit for a wall but for the scrunched noses of the students, one asking whether the Dream Team (Hiro and Drew) had let off another stink bomb, both of whom were claiming it was Allegra, who had taken a liking to the pork and beans served every Tuesday. A few other Ravenclaws were in the corner, signing a petition for not allowing the house-elfs to make American food such as that. Arianna had to grin as she passed it over to the boy. She still found it as funny now as she had when she had first drawn it.

It took Matthias a couple seconds to figure out exactly what was all going on in the picture. When he did, though, he started chuckling. The art on this one was much improved from the last one, and the humor was every bit as good. Still laughing slightly, he handed back the picture and said, "That one's good, too." He smiled as he asked her, "Are all your drawings humorous, or do you apply your talent to more serious endeavors?" She really did have talent, too. It showed even in the quick sketch she'd given him earlier in class.

"Depends on my mood," Arianna replied, shuffling through the pages to see if there was anything else to show off. It was mostly unfinished sketches and a lot of practice pages. Nothing she really wanted to show off. "I won an award a few years ago for a painting. I don't know who would want such a depressing piece hanging in their home, but someone bought it and I haven't seen it since."
Okay, so that piece had been liked not just for the talent, but also for the emotion that was in it. Arianna had still been a bit embarassed to show it off to her friends. It was honestly like exposing her soul. Something she was oddly more comfortable doing in front of complete strangers she would never meet again. Arianna still couldn't help wondering how that particular painting could win anything when she was certain others in the competition had been a bit easier to digest and much more pleasant to look at.

Matthias nodded at Arianna's initial comment. He supposed if he had such a talent, it would be the same for him. After all, he already had times where he simply wanted to curl up alone somewhere and read, and others where he couldn't stand being alone, and that was just in normal life.
When she told him about winning the award, he raised his eyebrows appreciatively. "Well, if someone was willing to pay money for it, it must have been pretty good. And who can tell whether another person will find a peice depressing or not? Some people might go for stuff like that," he suggested.

"Yeah, that's probably true," Arianna nodded shortly, somewhat agreeing. "Maybe they have other reasons for wanting it. When I painted it, I might've enjoyed that type of stuff, but now that I look back on it, I think it would bring me down to look at it. It was good therapy, though."
"Ah, but that's enough about me," Arianna shook her head. She had realized she'd been talking too much and quickly going into something Matthias might find boring or maybe even a 'pity me' story. Arianna didn't want to go there. Plus, she really had somewhere she needed to be at the moment, no matter how much she didn't want to go.
Glancing quickly at her watch, the girl sighed.
"I should probably go talk to Mason before he comes out to find me," she muttered, her eyes motioning toward the classroom door a moment before turning back to the boy and smiling. "You don't have to wait, but you definately have to promise me that we can meet up somewhere and talk some more."

Right. Mason wanted to talk to her. Matthias would have to talk to her some other time or something. Why the professor had decided to be so harsh on Arianna, he had no idea. It was only a note, after all. And if he'd seen the whole thing, he possibly would have been a bit lighter. The cartoon surely would have brought a smile to his face. But that was in the past. Nothing to really be done about it now.
"Alright," he replied. "I'll wait out here for a bit, but if it starts getting too long, I'm out of here." Too long meaning more than 45 minutes, he thought. "If it does take too long, I promise we can meet another time. Any ideas for when and where?"

"How about down by the lake?" Arianna suggested. She didn't think she would be too long, but then, she didn't know what too long was for Matthias. "After dinner? I always head down there for a bit around that time."
"I'll try to hurry, though," she added as she headed off toward the door. Unable to resist, she gave his arm a little squeeze as she passed and threw in one last smile before disappearing through the door into the classroom.

Matthias nodded to Arianna's suggestion. Knowing where to find her if he needed to later was a good thing. Heck, he might meet her at the lake later even if she did get out of the classroom quickly. It would give him something to do in a night that seemed it would likely be boring otherwise.
He returned her smile as he watched her exit the hall, then turned to sit against the wall. What was up with the arm squeeze? It was completely random, as far as he could tell. Not that it was really unwelcome or anything. It just seemed out of context or something. Oh well. He started sifting through his bag, looking for something do do while he waited. With any luck, it wouldn't be a long wait.
