Keagan pulled her pillow back up into her lap as she thought on it. It took her several long moments to even register that Finn had moved quite a distance away from her. Plucking at the top of the pillow, she finally did.
"Finn?" she asked, staring at his back. "Are you okay?"

Snorting in a sarcastic way, Finn didn't turn as he responded to Keagan's question. "I wish," he grumbled back. He thought about turning to face her again, but he couldn't. Not when his cheeks were such a ghastly colour.
"I just wish I knew what it meant," he replied, bitterness creeping into his voice. It wasn't like he wanted to dream this. It just happened. And frankly, it was quite terrifying.

Keagan felt stung by his sarcasm and grumbling, but the blow was softened by the bitterness in the comment that followed.
"Well, it's, um, me, right? And a shadow or something...smothers me?" Keag attempted to clarify before continuing, all the while stumbling over her words as she took a stab at analysis. "So...maybe you're afraid something...or someone...is going to...steal...me."

Finn just nodded in response as Keagan recounted what he had told her earlier. He had known that that was what the dream had meant, but he didn't want to believe it. Finn didn't even want to think about it. The Eagle didn't know what he'd do if he lost Keag now.
"It's not going to happen though, right?" Finn asked, concern showing in his eyes, "Because you won't let anyone, right?"

Keagan frowned as Finn continued to face away from her, but she could hear the concern in his tone even if she couldn't see any in his eyes. She shifted just enough to stroke his back with her palm.
"I could never hurt a person like that," Keagan replied, hoping to ease his worry. "Besides, I honestly can't think of anyone who would want me...other than Dean, of course."

At the mentioning of a name, Finn whipped around to face Keagan. Dean...could it be the same one he was thinking of? "Dean?" Finn questioned, "Who the hell is Dean? Dean what?" The Eagle shifted his entire body, bringing one leg up onto the bed and folding it under himself.
Finn looked at Keag with a wary expression. If it was who Finn was thinking about, he didn't know how he'd react. He'd actually become friends with that guy, and if there was a chance he'd take Keagan, Finn didn't know what he'd do.

Keagan's hand jerked back quickly and somewhat painfully as Finn turned to face her ever so rapidly. He didn't sound too happy, either. "Dean. Dean Quinn," she stated, quiet and hesitant. "My last boyfriend."
She had dropped the name so nonchalantly, but now, in the 20/20 vision of hindsight, she couldn't recall ever referencing Dean by name. 'Oops,' she thought, biting at her lower lip nervously.

Finn did know who she was talking about. He'd met the boy once, and he clued in quickly that they were probably even still together when Finn had met him, and when he first met Keagan for that matter. He suddenly felt the cold stab of jealousy, and his mind began to second-guess Keagan, although in his heart he knew that was stupid. Still, his mind was controlling this one now.
"Do you still like him?" Finn asked suddenly, in a voice that sounded like he was interrogating a criminal. He hadn't meant it to be so harsh, but it just sort of slipped out.

Keagan really didn't like this sudden change in Finn's demeanor one bit. His posture had shifted, and there was a definite shift in his tone of voice that scared the Gryffindor, too. Without thinking, she slid a distance away from the Ravenclaw; she trusted that Finn wouldn't intentionally hurt her, but intentions are loosely measured when you're angry.
"No...," she replied slowly, glad she hadn't answered quickly, for then he would doubt her sincerity. "I never loved him, either. It wasn't a very deep relationship, and I was the one who ended it. He's why I want things to work out with you. Why would I let him come between us?"

Finn noticed Keag moved significantly away from him, but he didn't budge. He just watched her while she answered him, but as she spoke the words, Finn's head lowered so his chin was touching his chest. He began fidgeting with his hands while he tried to find the right words to say.
"I'm sorry," he muttered quietly, feeling his cheeks turn on him again, "I didn't mean to sound so jerky. I just...I-I don't wanna lose you." Finn was speaking in such a low whisper that he didn't even know if Keag would be able to hear him or not.

Apparently Keagan had said something right, for Finn didn't seem quite so upset anymore. She wasn't sure what to do now, though. All she could hear of what the Eagle boy said was "I'm sorry." Everything else was nothing more than a nearly silent whisper. Keag figured it was some sort of explanation, but she hadn't much of an idea what that explanation could be.
She slowly pulled her knees up to her chest, not sure what to say now. The Lioness supposed she could understand him not wanting her taken away; something in the back of her mind said that she really didn't want him taken away from her, either. However, understanding and responding were certainly different things.

Trying to catch a glance of her quickly without her seeing, Finn looked at her out of the corner of his eye. He saw her all curled up now and his heart sank right into his stomach. He looked up again, and reached a hand out to Keagan.
"I'm so sorry," he said again.

"And I forgive you," she replied, looking back into his eyes, but not reaching her own hand out to him. She continued in an incredibly quiet, and somewhat hurt, voice. "I just...I don't get it. I mean, without knowing he was a boyfriend of the past, I guess it makes sense that you might be concerned. But seriously, Finn, do you think I would run back to him after everything I've said about trying to get this right because of that? Do you?"

Finn suddenly felt like a child again, being reprimanded for doing something he'd been told not to. He hung his head again, and pulled his hand back when Keagan didn't reach for it. Finn knew he'd blown it now, just like he did every other time. You are SUCH a moron! he scolded himself angrily.
"Do you?"
"No," Finn muttered eventually, after staying quiet for a long time. He felt his eyes start to sting and a tiny drop slid off his nose. He wiped at it quickly, hoping Keagan hadn't seen it this time. Finn felt like such a jerk for thinking otherwise. He knew his head was trying to screw him over, and it had been successful. Now he was going to do the one thing he wanted to avoid more than anything in the world: lose Keagan.

Keag kept her gaze steady on the boy, but she didn't notice the tear. All she saw was a strong boys' composure collapse, and the same boy wiping angrily at something on his nose. And that was just what he was - a boy. But could she really hold that against him? The Gryffindor didn't think she could.
"Then prove it," she said. "Prove you trust me." She didn't think it would take much, but she was kind of curious how he would take it.
