Emeric had been being distant lately. He knew he sounded like a broken record due to the reasons why his troubles kept reappearing, but there wasn't really much he could do about it. He was trying to distract himself with various things such as his classes, Quidditch tryouts and practices, and his girlfriend. But as of late, he was afraid he had been neglecting Matty. It wasn't that he was trying to, it was just that he didn't know if he knew how to be with her without hurting her in some way. He felt like the stereotypical teenager with angst and animosity towards the world, but he knew there was more. There were specific reasons behind his being distant and aloof around his classmates, but yet again, he couldn't say anything about it.
All of these excuses led up to Em wanting to do something special for his and Matty's ten month anniversary. Despite his moodiness as of late, she had remained a constant source of laughter and fun. Emeric felt remorseful about his detached attitude and wanted to make it all up to her. The idea came from one of their first dates, meeting up and eventually going to the seventh floor and finding themselves in a warm cozy beach though the weather outside was chilly and definitely not swimable. He had come an hour or so in advance and paced the wall three times, wishing as he went. A few seconds later, an old wooden door appeared, the handle bronze and ancient looking. He wrenched open the door and stepped forward into snow. Emeric grinned, it was perfect. He spent the rest of the time setting up. He built a small fire, made sure the snowboards, skis, and sleds were all set up. They had options, that was for sure.
Forty five minutes later Em decided to change, so he made his way over to the cabin just to the right and put on various snow items. Thermal pants under his jeans, a beanie cap, thick gloves, and a nice warm coat. It was freezing cold in the room, and he felt better with the extra clothing even though he probably looked like an eskimo. Em peeked his head out of the doorway, looking around for his girlfriend.

There were a handful of simple things in Matty's life, of which seemed to excite her, and make the young girl happy. For instance, small naps. They made her feel warmer, calmer, and down to earth with the world. Getting letters from her two brothers, just casual ones, that asked her how her month or week had been, and if she wanted anything from the muggle world. Sitting outside in the sun. And among such simple things, were the notes that Em sent her now and then. With this year, they hadn't seen each other that much, and all that hoo har. It was making them both eager to see one another at any chance, as much as it also frustrated the teenagers. Emeric was a bit part of her life, he was part of who she was, and without him around all the time, Matilda was finding she had to distract herself with other things, when she couldn't be with him. But, it was little letters like this, requesting a meet-up, that she utterly adored. The teenager merely grinned at the simplicity of his note, as he had slipped it in her pocket when he briefly saw her that day. She had been giddy and distractive all day, walking with a bounce in her step. Once classes were over, and Matty was left with some time to kill, she returned to her dorm, grabbing the small gift she had gotten last summer for Em, in plans to give it to him for their ten month anniversary. It was kind of odd, thinking about all that now. He was by-far her longest term boyfriend, Jynx coming in second, and that had been three years ago now. But all the same, she loved the, ahem, "Troy-Boy" deeply. Aside from being her boyfriend, he was her best male friend, and she cherished him for reasons like that. As time neared to six, Matty took another quick glance at the note, before picking out a simple, comfortable outfit. Funnily enough, the jumper she pulled out happened to be her boyfriends, a muggle item he had purchased not long ago, one that Matty had borrowed, and not yet returned. She also remembered to pack a spare pair of dressier clothes for later, if need be. You never knew, when it came to her and Emeric. Leaving time to get up there, Matilda gathered her gear, before tracking up the halls, a smile plastered to her face. She reached the seventh floor, just in time to see her boyfriend's head poke out of a doorway in the wall. "Em!" she called out, grinning, reaching him, and sliding herself in the doorway. As soon as she had dropped her bag on the snow, covered ground, Matty threw her arms around the younger, but taller, Slytherin boy. But being short, her head tucked snugly into the arch between his neck and shoulder, and in doing so, the Hufflepuff was no yet able to see the marvelous place that Em had thought out.

Emeric waited eagerly, and he only had to hold off a couple of seconds before he caught sight of the girl. She looked wonderful in anything, and Em thought she looked quite adorable in his hoodie, which she had temporarily stolen from him. He made a mental note to get it back eventually, but knew she would probably end up keeping it anyway. Not that it mattered to him too much, he was just excited to see the girl. " Hey, fancy seeing you here. " He joked as he ushered her into the room and hugged her tightly.
He picked her up a bit off the ground, planting a kiss on her as he did so. He didn't want to let her go but decided that if they were going to snowboard and ski and do all of the other fun things he had planned it would probably be best for them to stop hugging and start doing somethings. " Hey, so... how are you? Guess what I have planned... " she didn't have to guess so much, but seeing as how her face was burrowed into his jacket, he didn't know if she had seen the place or not. It was wonderful, and he was happy to be able to share it with her. Em gingerly lowered the girl back to the ground, a teasing smile in place now.
" Happy ten months. " He muttered, smiling all the while as he kissed the girls forehead.

Matty thought that by now, after ten months of dating, the feeling she got when seeing Emeric after a long while would have worn off. The feeling that shot through her body like electric, that made her stomach erupt in a wave of buffer flies, and her body and mind feel like it was made of helium gas. The sight of his chocolate eyes locking with hers, that smile that she had grown to love, both managed to make the teenager melt a little inside each time. All of those feelings, the kind that you experience when you are truly in love; they were yet to fade. And feeling Emeric's arms hug tightly around her, Matty suspected that he probably felt the same way.
"I"m full of surprises." she grinned, feeling herself being pick up from the ground, her laugh being covered by a welcomed kiss. Once she was lowered back on the ground, Matilda looked up at Em curiously, before her gazed wandered over the snow wonderland. The girl did her best to stop her jaw from hitting the floor. "Em!" she gasped, looking up to him in excited disbelief. "It's looks so awesome!" she commented, turning to wards him, whilst stretching up on her tippy toes, planting a kiss on his lips. "Thank you sweetie. Happy anniversary to you too." she smiled, while returning to her normal height again.
"So, what should we do first? Looks like you've got everything covered."

Em looked up and noticed snow falling lightly around them and a small smile made its way to his face. He wasn't sure where it came from, but he supposed that was the glory of magic. You didn't always have to know where it came from, just that it was there. He gently wiped a few snowflakes from Matty's hair as he smiled down at her, feeling on top of the world in their own little universe he had created. It was only for the night, but it meant something.
" That you are... and luckily, " He waited until she looked around at the snow, the hills, and everything. " So am I. " He impatiently awaited her reaction and was thankful once he saw it on her face. " You like it? " Em didn't mean to sound so disbelieving, but he hadn't been one hundred percent sure that it was a good idea. He knew Matty appreciated everything he did and all, but he felt as if he was going out on a limb with that one. " Well what we do first is up to you... there's a cabin that way, " he motioned over his shoulder, " there are hills with snowboards, sleds and skis just over there, and... there are also snow garments in the cabin so you don't freeze. " Freezing was typically bad and tonight he wouldn't have any of it.

Matty had always associated snow, and winter in general, with warm memories. As weird as that sounded, it was true. It was more so the fact that after a day spent in the snow, making angles, sledding, or having snow ball fights, it was always a pleasure to take refuge back at home, grab a cup of hot co co, and sit in front of the fire while it dried out her cold and icy body. The satisfaction that she took in knowing that no matter how cold and wet you got, there had always been a blanket and an older brother to keep her warm. In this case though, Matilda was just as eager to get out there and try out all the different activities, as she was to end the night before a fire with Emeric, no doubt laughing and reminiscing about the day.
"I love it." she replied, truly meaning it too. They both always seemed to come up with new and exciting things to do for their special occasions. Heck, she could name a few off the top of her head. The night they escaped to a beach paradise, their camping trip in the Forrest, and now this snowy adventure. Matty was grateful that her and Em never seemed to fun out of ideas to keep them rolling out the memories to be. "Well, thanks to this hoodie," the girl pulled gently at the chest of Em's jumper "I'm pretty good for warmth, but I'll keep that in mind." she glanced about, before settling on something she was keen to do. "Can we go skiing? I've never been skiing or snow boarding, only sledding and ice skating, really." Matilda confessed, a shy smile on her face.

Ten months could be a long time. In the case of their relationship though, Em felt as though it had all happened rather quickly... One moment they were friends, teasing one another about stupid things, and the next moment they were in a relationship, although still teasing each other about stupid things. The change had been rather drastic for the boy, but he didn't regret it in any sense. He enjoyed these moments spent with the Hufflepuff girl and was thankful for her. It was usually for this reason, and others, that Em tried to be thoughtful and caring to her. At times it was second nature, but for events like these he really had to pull something together. " Good. " He smiled, laughing as the snow fell around them.
" We can. Although I have to tell you... the one time I went skiing I fell. A lot. So I might not be a big help, but we can try... Come to think of it, the one time I went ice skating I fell a lot, too... Had a big bruise on my knee for ages. Wasn't too much fun. " He released Matty after one more light kiss and tugged gently on her hand to come with him to where all of the snow equipment was.

The girl merely smiled and shook her head at Em when he confessed about his spills when ti came to skiing and ice skating. "Well, you'll still be a better help to me than myself, when it comes to skiing. Maybe I can help you out when it comes to ice skating. I used to roller blade allot as a kid, so maybe that has something to do with it." she shot him a playful grin, before allowing herself to be tugged along with Emeric to where the equipment and gear was. She wondered for a moment if the boy had done that sort of thing as a kid - roller blade, that is. She knew that generally for muggle kids it was a common past-time, but she wasn't sure when it came to Em and his brother. Heck, it didn't matter anyway, ice skating could take time.
"So, considering only one of us actually knows the basics of skiing... care to give a quick lesson?" the girl glanced from the gear, and back to her boyfriend, still smiling curiously. She could defiantly feel excitement bubbling inside her, not only because she was finally skiing, but because she knew that even if they both fell down more than they stood up, this was going to be fun.

Despite the cold that was obviously still sweeping its way throughout the dungeons Emeric felt rather warm as he held Matty to him for a moment more. His usually pale cheeks shone pink with happiness, though, rather than warmth as he listened to the girls words. A small look of confusion crossed the Irish boy's features as he tried to figure out what a roller blade was. She made a reference between it and ice skating so Emeric figured that maybe it was something in the same. There wasn't too much about ice skating that made it magical... except when there happens to be a hover spell on the skates, causing the wearer to go from skating along the surface of the ice to hovering a few inches above it. He didn't feel compelled too much to know what it meant, but he felt like engaging her anyhow.
" So.. what's a... roller blade? " He raised his brows in a curious manner, slowly finding himself thankful that Matty was around to teach him stuff like this, even if it was rather mundane. He allowed the small grin to grow on his lips as he answered her question. " Ah, well. I did mention the falling a lot, didn't I? " He chuckled at himself as he recalled the memory.
" Basic idea... don't fall. " Emeric paused once more to laugh. He felt... bubbly, if that was even a word he could personify. " Try to keep the skis parallel with one another as to not get tripped up over yourself and fall. We won't go on any of the bigger hills for now, can't have us both dying and all. " The Slytherin boy gave Matty's hand one last squeeze before he moved closer to the gear, grabbing a pair of girlish looking ski boots. He didn't really know his girlfriends shoe size but figured since the boots he had taken were the only feminine looking ones that the room would have figured it out. He glanced up to the slightly cloudy skies and was thankful for the Room of Requirement. He definitely couldn't have pulled any of this off without it. " Here ya are my love. " He handed the boots off to her and took a seat down on a nearby bench, putting on his own ski boots.

Emeric's question didn't catch Matty by much surprise at all, nor did she find it odd. As suspected, the boy obviously hadn't grown up with the same smuggle type pass-times as she did, and there wasn't anything wrong with that. What the teenager found curious was what Magical children and their families did when growing up. She assumed sledding and stuff in winter was all normal, as well as swimming. But it was more the contraptions aspects of muggle life that her boyfriend was unfamiliar with. Of course, the girl didn't mind explaining to him about what a roller blade actually was, she found it rather cute that he was rather clueless about such things.
"It's like an ice skate, only with wheels instead of a blade. You use it to skate about on concrete and stuff." she said with an entertained smile. The girl bit down on her lip, before she too chuckled lightly at his further mention of falling down when skiing. "Don't worry, if I'm going to fall down I'll just grab onto you for support. Hey, even if we do both fall, at least I'll have a soft landing." the look in her eyes, and on her expression were mischievous. Knowing herself, Matty probably wouldn't be game to go down the hill, no matter how small or flat it was, by herself. She'd want Em along side her, no doubt on that first run through.
"Basic idea... don't fall." the teenager let out a small groan of protest at this. "You're not making it easy, sweetheart." she teased, before letting him continue to give her tips. As they stood there, the Hufflepuff listened carefully to what her boyfriend had to say about skiing. Nodding slowly in understanding once he had finished, Matty watched as Em grabbed a pair of ski boots, before handing them to her. "Thanks." The girl then followed the boy to the bench, sitting down to also put on her boots. Her trackies seemed to bunch above the top of the shoe, as Matty stood up and walked around, getting used to the feeling of the boots.
Once she felt confident, the Hufflepuff glanced around, before spotting a couple pairs of skis leaning up against the cabin wall. She approached them, before grabbing the skis that matched her colour of boots - and her size, by the looks of it. "These ones, right?" she asked with a curious look.

" Oh. " The boy felt a bit stupid for his question once it was explained, as it seemed a bit obvious now. Roller blades... although if he had taken it literally he would have thought it to be blades that you roll on. He guessed wheels made sense, then. Emeric decided not to dwell on the contraption too much as he was trying to lace up his own ski boots. They were a bit troublesome at first and he had to untie them a bit before he could fasten them onto the hooks and cross the strings into a knot. " Very reassuring, love. Good to know I'm needed. " He said this without looking up at Matty although if she were to glance at him she would notice the cheeky grin on his face as he spoke the words.
Finally having finished the job he glanced over and saw that Matty was ready as well. He watched as she walked over towards the various skis and picked the ones that matched her boots. He nodded his head once and walked over to join her. " I think so... which would make mine... these ones. " He had to take a brief glance down to his feet to see what color they were as he hadn't noticed while putting them on, and grabbed the matching ski set. " Okay... I have to remember how they did this... either sitting or standing... " He was more or less mumbling to himself but wasn't sure if Matty had caught what he said. Em decided to elaborate on his ramblings just in case.
" I was a lot younger the first and only time I went skiing... Alrigh', why don't you have a seat and I'll put these things on you? " He had remembered how to strap the skis on even though the clasps were a bit tricky to work with, and he decided that it would probably be best for Matty to be sitting down just in case.
