So she found herself on top of a tower looking down over all that her gray-green eyes could see. There were children walking happily across the lawns looking --dare she say it-- chipper and smiling brightly. Their eyes were illuminated by the prospects of having no school today; today was Sunday. Couples walked almost at a snails pace --strolling if you will-- while holding each other's hands looking into each other's eyes. It was strange to think that some time ago she could have imagined her and Art doing that but not right now. She had not seen Art in a while and now... Now those thoughts were gone, though she had to admit that she did miss him. That could have added to why she felt the way she did right now, though her feelings went beyond an unrequited crush. No, her feelings went way beyond that. A few more couples headed toward the lake probably to get in a swim even though the day was a nice kind of warm.
A blonde haired kid, who Fyona was sure was older but looked sooo short, ran across the lawn waving a piece of paper as he joined a friend near a tree. A gang of giggling girls first years followed behind two pompous looking sixth years. She smiled at this and then continued to observe from her perch on the top of the tower. She just hoped it didn't rain. That would ruin her plans and she didn't want that to happen. If she didn't do it now then there was no telling when she would work up the courage to do this again. She had already gone through a lot of preparation for this as it was. She had put much more effort into this than she had in some of her studies.
The first time she had though of bungee jumping from the tower had been in the middle of napping in potions. What the teacher had been saying had been irrelevant to Fyona and so she had put her head down for a little nap and in this dream she had been jumping off this tower with a retractable rope. The kind that sprang back. In this dream she had jumped from a tower similar to the one she was standing on now, but the scene below had looked different. That was okay because everything looked different in dreams. When she had jumped.... The feeling! The invigorating rush she had gotten! The feel of the wind as it whipped her hair back and the sound of her clothes ruffling as the wind forced them to billow behind her. It had been... It had been amazing! She wanted to know that feeling in real life.
She wanted to leave behind all her freaking problems for just a moment and have that happy feeling back. Even if it was just for a moment. A moment was all she needed anyhow. She had found a rope somewhere in one of the empty classrooms and charmed it so that it would spring back. It had taken a while for her spell to work the way she wanted it to but she had gotten it right. Then she had picked today to climb --carefully-- to the top of the tower and tied one end of the rope securely to a statue on top of the tower. This particular statue was one of a woman holding a wand in her right hand and a book in the other. Stone glasses framed a stern set of eyes. After attaching her rope she had simply stood over the edge of the structure. Looking at all the people, wondering if they could see her up here right now. She almost wanted to scream "Look at me" but was afraid that if they did then she would lose her nerve. She had done so already about five times on the way up here.
She was looking at a kid who was trying to play frisbee --a game she had never quite saw the fun in-- when something landed next to her.
