She needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of the school. Not that she could up and leave but she needed some peace and quiet. Everything had gone by so fast for Tallulah she didn't remember some. Though, that could have just been her selective memory. She packed up her enormous handbag with her stationary set and the letter from home. She headed out of her common room, hoping to find some peace. She walked up to the entrance hall only to find it packed for some strange reason. She groaned, turning her back on the kids in there and walking up another set of stairs. She kept walking up until she found herself in one of the towers. With a rare happy smile she had finally found the quite she wanted.
She looked around for a while, finding no one to interrupt her. A small sigh escaped her lips as she found a little corner near a window to settle herself in. Her brown eyes looked out the window into the sky. It was so blue today. This brought back her rare true smile. It wasn't a smirk or smug grin. She was happy. Tallulah then remembered why she was there. She needed some time to read and write home. Her smile faltered a bit, she didn't want to know what her parents thought. They had these views for her life that just didn't align with hers. They wanted her to get married straight out of Hogwarts and start having kids soon after that. They wanted her to marry rich and keep her status. She knew she could marry rich but she didn't want to be forced to marry right after graduation. She wanted a choice of her husband. She wanted to find someone to love, to love her. It seemed less likely she'd get that.
She opened her handbag, pulling out the anorexicly thin letter from her mother. She could hear her mother's voice reading the note to her in her head.
Dearest Tallulah,
Hello darling, How is it at Hogwarts? You must be thrilled to be out of Beauxbaton. That place was getting to dirty and we couldn't trust them with our only daughter's education. You're education is so important to your father and I.
In other news, Do you remember the Troy family? Well their son Emeric attends Hogwarts with you. He is a year below you and is in your house. Knowing you the two of you have already became fast friends. I'll let you know his mother things very highly of you. Just yesterday I over heard some mothers while in Diagon Alley talk about you in the highest sense. They were talking about their sons and how they'd love you to meet them. Doesn't that sound fun? Once you get back for break we'll set up some dates. Personally I say you try to spend some time with Emeric. He's prime choice for you. I usually would say stay away because he is younger but he and you are perfect.
That is all sweetheart, hope school is treating you well. Remember, dessert will make you gain pounds and we don't want a bigger you!
Kiss Kiss, Mother and Father
She wanted to kill her mother. Truly kill her. How could she think that she would stand for this? She wasn't some doll that was thrown around between boys. Yes, Tallulah did have her fair share of flings but she was never like her mother made her sound. Her face burned even though she was alone. She got up, leaving her bag behind. She walked ovet to the window, looking out at the sky again. She wanted to be free. Free of this feeling of being someone elses property. She wasn't her own, she was to be bought and sold to the highest bidder. "No escaping fate," She whispered quietly to no one. "This is my life."

The place was like a hive on a sweltering day. Only it was not hot but cold and they were definitely not making any honey either. Everyone seemed to be out and about and here and there and just getting under foot. It kind of sucked that school was not going to let out for the winter holidays and that everyone was stuck inside, but it didn't literally mean that everyone was stuck inside . Opting not to go outside Fyona made her way higher and higher up the school until she was busy wandering the towers. Wandering was something that she did well, and it was something that she particularly enjoyed to do. Mostly because she was able to clear her head and focus on other things instead of her problems. She was getting better at this whole positive thinking thing too.
She was in the middle of these positive thoughts when she almost tripped over someone's bag. If she hadn't been in a daze then she might have been a little more irritated by this bump in the road, but as things were she was mostly worried about her ankle as she took a crash dive into the floor. Who the..? What the..?
"No escaping fate. This is my life." Said softly enough so it clearly wasn't to her but with only two people in this deserted section of the tower she heard it regardless. And agreed. "Yeah, I know. Tell me about it." Things like this always seemed to happen to her.

Tallulah's eyes darted up at the voice. She was in a bad mood but really didn't feel like spreading it. There was a girl on the floor a few feet from her. She must had tripped over her bag. Tallulah walked over and pulled her bag out of the way, looking the girl over. She didn't look too bad, no cuts or bleeding to worry about. "Didn't think anyone would find me here." She said, smirking slightly. "Are you ok?"
Tallulah sat down across from the girl, crossing her legs as to make more room. She pulled her bag in front of her and stuffed the letters back into her bag making a mental note to burn them, then burn the ashes, then spread them somehwere far, far away.
She looked at the girl once more. The girl looked very familar. For the looks she was a Slytherin and thats where Tallulah guessed she saw her. She noticed she didn't introduc herself yet and grinned sheepishly. "Uh, I'm Tallulah. Slytherin. I think I've seen you around the common room."

Fyona flipped herself over and sat up with her legs straight out as the girl collected her bag and sat down across from her. It was nice to meet someone with a smile on their face for change rather than the grumpy sights she had been seeing lately. She understood that being stuck inside of a castle all winter break was not exactly some people's idea of fun, but it was better to make the best of it than pout. The girl introduced herself as Tallulah, and she was in Slytherin too. Oh wow. That definitely made this meeting even stranger. A smiling face on a Slytherin too. She was beginning to think that there were a handful of the snakes that could even muster having a straight face let alone a smile.
"The name's Fyona. I'm in Slytherin too," she greeted wiping some dirt off her hands. "I'm alright. It happens all the time. Really it happens too many times to count so I'm not sure if I'm just really clumsy or if this castle is conspiring against me." She probably sounded crazy, but no crazier than usual she hoped. She smiled to herself and then looked up at Tallulah.
"So what has fate done this time? If you don't mind me asking of course. I'd hate to be one of those nosy pricks who feel they have to no everything about everyone." Those kind of people were just down right annoying.

Tallulah smiled lightly again at the girl. "Well, I'm glad you're ok. Wouldn't want to have to cart your to the Hospital Wing and explain what happened!" Her smirk was mischievous, but not in an evil way. She heard the girl's name was Fyona. She nodded, making sure to remember it. "Fyona...thats a really pretty name."
The girl in front of her was adorable. She reminded her of a girl in her year at Beauxbaton. This brought a smile to her face. Tallulah pulled out her wand from her bag and twirled it in her fingers slowly. She wasn't bored, just needed to do something with her hands.
She listened to the girl go on about how she was clumsy or the school was after her. She giggled lightly. She covered her mouth with a free hand. "Lets just say it's the school. Sounds much better and you have someone, well something to blame when you fall over!" Blaming someone for everything isn't good...but this was only in jest.
"So what has fate done this time? If you don't mind me asking of course. I'd hate to be one of those nosy pricks who feel they have to no everything about everyone."
Her smirk faded away into a scowl. "My parents. They seem to have the idea that I'm property and finding me a husband now will pay off in the long run." Her words dripped with acid. She couldn't believe she was telling someone this. It was so personal that Tal wouldn't never tell anyone about it. "I'm only 15 and they have suitors in mind already! Isn't that insane?"

"Yeah, personally I believe it's the school anyway," she nodded smiling, but her eyes widened to the size of discs at the answer to her question. Suitors already?!
"Wow! They must be really old fashioned. That beats anything I've got at the moment, I'm really sorry to hear that. It really am How can they expect-- How can they want you to get married at 15?! What suitors can they have picked out for you that would want to get married right now anyway?" She was just stunned by all of this. It was the first time she had heard of such a thing in her day and age. She shook her head slowly and then calmed down a little. The initial surprise was slowly going away, and so was the rush of questions. Fyona hoped her mother would never get like that. She didn't think her mum had it in her to let her daughter go just yet anyway. Still, that was a ridiculous thing to expect from someone so young.
"Kinda makes you want to bury your head in the sand. Or at least show them that you're your own person and make your own decisions." She didn't know Tallulah's parents but she could guess that they were the type that blocked out any and all words that went against their wishes. Surely anyone who wanted to marry of their daughter at fifteen must be hard of hearing. "You need to show them," she said again.
In that moment she remembered some of the books she read when she was younger when the heroine would run off with her beloved against her parents wishes. Or when the prince would marry the poor maid instead of the conceited princess. Or even the ones where the main character would run away just to escape the terrorizing grip of parental control.

She laughed at the Fyona's answer to the school trying to knock her down all the time and her reaction about her parents. That was the reaction she was hoping for. Finally, someone who didn't brush it off as exaggerations or something else.
"Well, I won't be sending out wedding invites any time soon but my parents want me to find someone so they can parade us around like idiots and show everyone how perfect their pure blood daughter is." She sighed quietly, wrapping her arms around her mid section. "They were never parent-like to me ever. I was a doll to them."
"I should tell them but they'll just drag me out of school here and send me to Durmstrang or worse, homeschooling." She shuddered at the thought of having home and school be the same place. "Enough about me...what about you? What year are you in?"

Well it was good that she wouldn't be walking down the aisle by this time the next year, but it still sucked. Sometimes parents were absolutely clueless it seemed.
"They were never parent-like to me ever. I was a doll to them." Such a statement seemed almost strange. This Slytherin here who was so pretty could not possibly be completely like a doll. After all she was in Slytherin, house of the snakes, she had some sting to her at least. Such her appearance almost seemed fragile with the china doll brown eyes, and the straight-as-you like hair, but still. Sitting here Fyona could almost see how much the girl could bite if she wanted to. She figured that if you handled someone like a doll they could only become two things though, a spoiled fragile keep-sake on display, or a person willing to aspire to something greater. Which was Tallulah? Apparently the latter if she opposed her parents so much.
"I should tell them but they'll just drag me out of school here and send me to Durmstrang or worse, home schooling." Fyona scoffed at the idea. Wrinkling her face, bunching all the freckles together, and turning up her nose like she smelled something funky.
"If my parents tried to home school me I would just ask them to send me to a school magic school in Italy. Durmstrang isn't the most prettiest of places either, or so I've heard." Then Tallulah changed the subject unexpectedly. The younger girl thought for split second before responding. There was so much to say about herself where was she to start? "I'm thirteen in third year. I don't know what to tell you about me. I'm not exactly the most studious of students but I try... sometimes. My real problem is potions, but that may be because I barely studied in that class last year and now I'm behind this year because of it." She sighed, "I had my own problems last year that distracted me somewhat." She smiled and felt a little heat rising to her cheeks.

Tallulah nodded, agreeing with the girl. "I visited Durmstrang and it was horrid. Well, the school it self was horrid. All dark and dank. It makes the Forbidden Forest look like a light and happy place." She knew this sounded like an exaggeration but it really was that dark. "I'd love to go to school in Italy. My parents have a summer home there. I love the culture."
She then reached into her bag and took out the letter her mother sent her. Looking them over for a second she placed them a few feet away from the two of them. Tallulah took out her wand, muttering the words "Incendio." Small flames shot out of her wand and found a new home on her letters. She let them burn for a few seconds before muttering "Finite."
"Ah, much better." Tallulah then listened to the girl as she spoke about herself. She didn't say much but Tallulah expected that from a fellow snake. Problems? Tallulah thought, I wonder what she means... Her brown eyes found the girl's face, giving her a smile. "Is everything ok? Your problem I mean." She had just met this girl but found herself liking her more and more as the seconds passed.

Fyona hesitated to tell someone she just met when she hadn't even told anyone else about her little problem. Art nor Shari knew about it and her parents were absolutely clueless which is just the way she wanted them. However, this girl had told her the problems with her parents, so why should Fyona not take that leap?
"Well last year after those attacks," she shivered thinking about the terror she felt underneath that table, "I kind of slacked off a little... Or a lot on my school work. My mind was too busy thinking about other things and before I knew it I was failing almost every class, and the ones I wasn't already failing were getting me into trouble anyway. I guess the school being taken over, and then my mother's reluctance to let me return here, just got me all riled up. I was really really scared after that." She looked up at Tallulah, eyes wide. She had been really scared, and that fear had followed her everywhere she went. How was she supposed to concentrate on anything when your paranoia told you that people with no faces were going to turn the corner and attack you?
"I suppose I thought if it happened once, it can happen again. I managed to pass all my classes last year, barely. Now this year I have to learn everything I didn't learn from last year, AND keep up with this year's stuff," she made a gag face and smiled. "Thus my problem."

Tallulah's heart sank when she heard the girl's story. Tallulah couldn't believe the school would like something like this go unnoticed. Didn't they have people to help the kids cope with this kind of thing? Tal reached out and touched the girls shoulder in a comforting way. "Listen here If the Deva ever tried to attack Hogwarts again we'd be ready. The fact that they did infiltrated once means that Hogwarts is ready ten times over for another attack." She smiled at the girl, showing she needn't be embarrassed or anything else. "And about the school thing? If you're stuck I can always help you. I'm a good teacher."
With all of that out of their systems Tallulah thought of what else they could talk about. The pox seemed like a good subject. "So, how you gotten the pox yet? This is such a dreadful time to get it. Well, not being able to go home sucks for some but I kind of like Christmas here. Might have to do it next year."

She didn't know what to say to such a kind gesture. Tallulah had to be the first person at this school who was genuinely nice to her. No, Claire was pretty nice too though she wished she could say the same for Trixie... Still Fyona nodded at this new unexpected friend, if she could call her friend, and said, "I guess you're right. This time I hope they put a spell or something on the Great Hall doors to keep them from exploding." Again she imaged all the dust and debris that went flying everywhere. It had been especially bad over by the Slytherin table since they had been the closest. "I couldn't possibly ask you to help me. You probably have your own studies to attend to. Plus, no amount of studying will help me catch up in potions. I think I'm a goner in that class."
"So, how you gotten the pox yet? This is such a dreadful time to get it. Well, not being able to go home sucks for some but I kind of like Christmas here. Might have to do it next year." Fyona laughed at the latter half of her statement. "Anything beats going back home to mummy and daddy right?" She could understand that, though she was pretty sure her mum would want her coming home no matter what. As a matter of fact she had sent more than one letter since finding out that her daughter would not be coming home for winter break, saying how they couldn't do this and yada yada yada.
"I have the dragon pox now, as a matter of fact. I was told it's highly contagious, so you would think that my roommate would be more careful to see which toothbrush she was using." Yeah, her roommates were disgusting. Well at least one of them was. "See?" she pulled up the long sleeves to her white top to reveal pocks similar to chickenpox only with a green tinge.

"They're much better protected now," Tallulah said, her voice was quiet and sweet. She didn't want this girl to worry. In these few minutes of knowing each other Tallulah really started to like Fyona. She wasn't like every other little kid at the school. She was much more intuitive then the rest of them. This brought a smile to her face.
"I couldn't possibly ask you to help me. You probably have your own studies to attend to. Plus, no amount of studying will help me catch up in potions. I think I'm a goner in that class."
Her smile faltered a little after the girl said this. "No really. It'll be no problem. I'm the queen of Potions. I'm pretty good at Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Though, Hogwarts doesn't offer the latter of those two." A light giggle escaped her lips after she said this. "If you ever need the help don't hesitate."
"Oh yes, I'm away from Mum and Dad. Life couldn't be more perfect." She fidgeted in her spot on the floor. Not that she was awkward or embarrassed. It was just a weird feeling that she and this younger girl were getting along fine. Tallulah wasn't the one to find people who were younger then her to be fun to hang out with. Fyona was an exception.
"I have the dragon pox now, as a matter of fact. I was told it's highly contagious, so you would think that my roommate would be more careful to see which toothbrush she was using."
"Ewwwwwwww. Thats gross!" The thought of someone using her toothbrush creeped Tal out. She shuddered involuntarily. Taking a small breath smiled. "I'll be sure to take my toothbrush and hide it in my room."

"No really. It'll be no problem. I'm the queen of Potions. I'm pretty good at Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Though, Hogwarts doesn't offer the latter of those two. If you ever need the help don't hesitate." Fyona nodded at this.
"Alright. Alright thanks. I think I'll take you up on our offer then," she said smiling. She was glad that this girl who she had just met was willing to help her out with her studies. Fyona didn't know this girl very well but she knew well enough that she was starting to like her. Anyone who volunteered to help her was someone worth being friends with. She had known Shari almost since the moment she had gotten to Hogwarts, Art as well, and neither one of them had offered to do such a thing. In fact Art was never around when she needed him which only made her want to draw further away from him.
"Ewwwwwwww. That’s gross!" was her reaction to the whole pox thing. Fyona thought it was super gross too. It wasn't like she asked for it, nor she did wish to infect anyone else. Although she could be infecting Tallulah right at this moment!
"Yeah, I know. I had a few choice words with her. Let's not talk about that little detail though," she shivered again thinking about how she unknowingly brushed her teeth with an infected toothbrush. "What about you? Do you have them or have you already had them before?"

(eeeps I'm dreadfully sorry!)
"Alright. Alright thanks. I think I'll take you up on our offer then,"
Tallulah smiled widely when she accepted. Nothing would have made her happier then to help Fyona out. She clapped her hands lightly. "I promise your marks will go up faster then you can say 'Potions Class"." Tallulah didn't doubt her or Fyona's abilities to make this work. She moved back from the girl and reached into her bag. Pulling out a day planner she browsed for the pages that showed the month in full. Her finger traced along the days until she found a Friday night that she was free.
Showing the girl the date she moved closer, now sitting next to her. "How about this night? I could ask the Potions Prof if we can use her room or something. If not we can find somewhere else." Before the girl answered she wrote down a note that said to ask the potions professor about using her room.
"it's good you had a few words with her. I would have hexed her. Things like that should never happen." When the younger girl said not to speak about this Tallulah couldn't agree anymore.
"What about you? Do you have them or have you already had them before?"
"Had 'em before. Years ago actually. When I was a toddler. My parents brought me over to another kids house to infect me. The idea is good and yet slightly creepy. Making everyone hang out with the sick kids so they all get sick?" She wrinkled her nose a little as she spoke. The idea, in her mind was quite backward. In the end it did help but still.
