Urgh. There was nothing more disgusting than the owlry of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There were signs that someone had attempted to keep it clean, the random spots on the floor free of owl droppings and hay. Emeric supposed that the elves did their best to keep the tower clean, but when there was more than a hundred owls living in one space, there wasn't much you could do to keep it clean. Emeric quickly glanced over his small letter to his mother as he stood on the only clean spot in sight.
The letter was small, but included enough details to keep his mother satisfied that he was living well enough. He whistled low, his eyes having trouble catching onto his own eagle-owl among all of the birds sitting and sleeping. It was midafternoon, so it only made sense that the night creatures would be resting. He watched as the owl flew down and landed on a nearby shelf. " Deliver this to mum, quick. " He said with a short nod, giving the owl a quick pet before tying the note to it's leg and sending it on its way. Emeric was looking for the quickest exit route out of the room as he noticed someone else walk into it.

She’d let it go too long. The letter from her mother unanswered after last January’s Deva invasion, and it was time to tell her mother where to shove her unwanted love. That’s right. Jax Chaput was a Chaput forever and as soon as she could think of what to say to her dear, loving ex-mother, she’d write it all down and send it on it’s way. However, as she walked into the owlery that day, a bit fumed from getting an owl previously from the quidditch co-ref, she held in her hand a blank piece of parchment, a pen, and the means to attach the letter to an owl’s leg.
This was it. She was going to tell her mother where to put her love and everything that came with it, however, she really didn’t have the words to say any of it. Jax was going to let it flow right from the pen. But what, she had no idea.
Her blue eyes rested on a fine sight though as she entered the owlery and found a Slytherin just turning from sending his own letter. “Emeric Troy the Third,” Jax said, laughing slightly. She didn’t know what it was, but she like ‘the Third’ part of his name. It was like he had his own legacy already. Jax snorted and rolled her eyes. “I’d ask what you’re dong, but I can see that like most Slytherin’s, you must love to waddle around in owl poop.” Her smile only widened as she teased the kid and let out a laugh. “It’s either that or sending an owl… but that’s just not as amusing.”

Now the problem at hand. How to get all the way back to the doorway so he could exit the putrid room. Ergh. His eyes glanced up and he noticed that the figure was not only familiar, but he knew who the girl was. Emeric nodded his head in a greating, still trying to figure out a way to not get any owl.. muck on his clean shoes. Ergh again.
" Jacquelyn Chaput. " He said once she adressed him by his name, along with ' the Third ' in for extra flair he supposed. He knew the girl didn't like her full name too much, and he couldn't blame her for the name didn't fit her too well. It was feminine and girly and.. giggly, much like the girls they had been poking fun at in their charms lesson. So very not Jax. He finally gave up for a moment or two and crossed his arms over his chest as he listened to her talk.
" I don't waddle. " He said in a rather indignant manner. Waddling, honestly. Her tease was met with a small glare that soon lessened in severity to a small smirk. " Might not be as amusing, but it's the truth. And you? Came here to bug me or do some letter sending of your own? " He guessed on the latter as she had parchment and a pen in hand. Two things, ideally, that would be used for writing a letter to someone.

(( Sorry, lost the post and... well, no excuse )) As the guy said her name fully, she slightly winced but said nothing knowing that she probably deserved it for saying his name out right. Could he really blame her? His name was cool. She wished she had a number on her name... at least it would give her some sort of legacy. Smirking she rolled her eyes, trying to play it off that she didn't give a damn. He crossed his arms at her as if he was bored, but Jax knew better. All the Slytherin kids she met had been cool in the same ways, rough around the edges... but soft centers. Oh yes, the kid loved her. It was obvious. "Alright, maybe not waddle... per say," Jax paused and scratched her chin as if she were looking for a better description. "...but dancing in the dung sounds too formal," she snorted, chuckling to herself. Emeric smirked at her and that was what she was waiting for. Confirmation that she and he were unannounced friends. Yup. There was no turning back for the boy now. It had been the same way she'd made a friend out of Al, from back home. "Bug you? I'm befriending you... and technically, that's only a plus," Jax said as she walked toward where he was standing, her small stature somewhat puffed out in her chest region as if she was some big guy on campus... someone rarely to be messed with. "The letter though, is necessary though as well," she shrugged trying to act as if she didn't care about it. "So, who'd you send yours, too?" Jax asked curiously. She knew it wasn't any of her business, but she was just wondering, so that's why she asked.

( don't worry about it ) Once Emeric had gotten the desired reaction out of Jax, the wince at his calling her by her full name, he smiled slightly. Perhaps he could be done tormenting her about her name. For now. There would probably be more opportunity for that later, as they were in the same year and were bound to have many more classes with one another as the years went by. His thoughts of leaving her alone about her name evaporated from his mind as she mentioned something, again, about the waddle. ' I don't waddle. ' He thought again, although this time keeping it to himself. ' And I don't ' dance in the dung. ' ' What kind of girl spoke like that anyway? It was unladylike. " Unfortunately for you, though, I happen to neither dance in the dung, as you say, or waddle. Now, whether or not you would like to do the said actions is not up to me. I could care less. " He said, all the while he was talking he was stepping carefully around owl droppings, a hard feet to accomplish. It was only when he noticed Jax moving towards him that he remained in place. He quirked his head at her, sliding his hands into his pockets. " What makes you think we're friends? " He asked, more or less giving her trouble for no good reason. While he wouldn't exactly call them friends yet, he didn't mind having the girl around. He nodded his head as she answered about the letter. He stiffened slightly, straightening his back and standing taller as she asked who he was sending the letter to. " My mother. " He said rather stiffly. Just at the mere mention of his family, Emeric stood at attention. He didn't intend to, it just sort of happened. Relaxing a little, he asked Jax, " What about you? "

She laughed just a bit as Emeric only found her more annoying as she continued to jest. It wasn't an annoyance that she saw in most that usually told her to leave, but more of an annoyance because he thought that he was more sophisticated than she... and from what she gathered, he totally was. She wouldn't lie, or deny such things, but she wasn't going to let that stand in between their newly forming friendship either.
Unfortunately for you, though, I happen to neither dance in the dung, as you say, or waddle. Now, whether or not you would like to do the said actions is not up to me. I could care less.
"Aww," she mockingly played sad and started to step where ever she could in the owlery, not caring if it was dung or just regular floor. She spun around and pretend to dance just lightly. "Guess I'll just have to have all this fun to myself then... too good for you, high class wizards, any ways," she continued to dance slightly, throwing Emeric a wink and sticking out her tongue as she did so. "You're not that much fun," she snorted, her dancing stopping Jax rolled her eyes and continued to the window just passed the Slytherin.
As she passed, he quirked his head at her and spoke up about something she said just seconds before. "Because," Jax said. "I already stated it... and I'm pretty stubborn," she said smirking and laughing, somewhat smug-like. Then she decided to elaborate on what she meant. "Not to mention..." she paused. "...we're two of the coolest people in our grades. If we're not friends..." she shrugged and shook her head. "Social suicide. Totally." She snickered and laughed again, placing her parchment on the window ledge as well as some ink she carried in her pants pocket and the quill in her hand.
Jax didn't see Emeric's stance as she was turned away from him as he answered her next question about who he was writing a letter to, rather she only heard his response and then his question. "That's cool. I'm writing to.... umm," how did she describe her own biological mother? "I guess you could say she's the woman who gave birth to me... but I mean, she's not my mother or anything..." Jax looked over her shoulder, her eyes were somewhat sad for a moment, only to just as quickly change and roll into a somewhat non-caring stance. She sighed. "But... what to say to her is what I'm lacking..."
Thinking for a few minutes she turned back to Emeric and slightly giggled... but, it was a different giggle than the girls in her classes always did. It was more of a mischievous laugh. "Have you ever told someone to bug off before, sophisticatedly?" Jax asked, almost wondering if Emeric knew any good vocabulary she could use on her mother. That would be funny.... no.... it'd be phenomenal.

Emeric sighed, not sure if he should laugh or scowl at the girl as she did her little dance. She spun around the room, giving him a show. ' too good for you, high class wizards, any ways. ' At this, Emeric scoffed at the girl. What on earth did she know about high class wizards? Probably not much. His smirked played carefully at his lips as he said, " It's a lovely dance, so excuse me for not wanting to join. " He tipped his head in a small nod to her and laughed as she mentioned he wasn't much fun. It reminded him of his conversation with Jax in charms, about how she was cool but he would have to see that out of the classroom in order to be able to judge whether or not it was true. He wasn't sure about her, yet.
" I can be tons of fun. It's just your brain I'm worried about. " He said with a small smile, a joking smile at the most. He looked down to the girl's shoes, probably covered in owl droppings, and wondered how she could take it. Emeric was feeling skeevy just standing in the room, much less dancing around in it. Made him want to vomit a little bit, but he resisted.
' we're two of the coolest people in our grades. If we're not friends...' she shrugged and shook her head. ' Social suicide. Totally. ' Social suicide, what on earth would Jax Chaput know about social suicide? If anything, being friends with would be social suicide. Emeric shrugged, knowing that it was a risk he would take. Not many other people in this school had messed with him, had been sarcastic and joking with him. And even though he wouldn't admit it to her, he did find Jax kind of funny. " Okay, friend, if you insist. " He said with another nod of his head. He had almost forgotten that he and Jax were in the same year, usually Em found himself hanging out with older people, mostly fifth years.
Emeric turned slightly o look at Jax as she explained about who she was writing to. ' but I mean, she's not my mother or anything. ' He nodded his head again, as if he understood. He didn't really, how could someone be your biological mother and not your mother? Maybe Jax had been adopted or something, he knew it would be rude to ask so he held his tongue. " Sound painful. " He mentioned, thinking that Jax sounded very off about it. After that strange moment, Em was surprised to see Jax turn back to look at him an giggle. He allowed a grin to make its way back across his features. " Nah, that would be my father. He can tell you that he's going to kick your arse and ask you how's ya mother in the same sentence. " A man of skill, his father was.

Jax found herself giggling and rolling her eyes at Emeric. He seemed real cool, but there was a stick or something crammed up his bum or something. "You need to loosen up," she scoffed as she stopped dancing, sighed and walked over to the window looking out it and checking out the weather conditions. Would the letter make it? Did she want it to, really?
Snorting out loud, Jax turned around a bit offended. Her brain?! There was nothing wrong with her brain, she was quick witted, and even brainier than most of those dumb Ravens that she called housemates. Scoffing again, Jax crossed her arms in front of her chest and shook her head at the guy. "I'll have you know, there's nothing wrong with my brains... I'm ten times more quick witted than have the girls and guys in my house. Don't make me laugh, it's catching..." Jax paused smirking. "And I know how much it must hurt for your face to do anything but scoff, smirk, and anything that relates to loosening up and having fun."
Ok, friend, if you insist.
Jax did, and hearing his emphasis on the word only made her chuckled as she rolled her eyes again and looked at the stuff in her hands. There was something she had to be doing, and talking this kid into being her friend was supposed to be second. Why she'd made it first, well, that was probably because it was effecting her more than the other little thing was.
His grin made her open her mouth in mock shock. "Oh! Don't do that! You'll hurt yourself," she jested and laughed out loud. Oh, that was good... "Your father sounds... talented," Jax got out between her laughs. "My mother was only good for lov'n and leav'n according to my Pop. But she wrote me a while ago..." Jax took her letter out of her other pocket and smiled maliciously. "I think it's time to return the favor..." Jax looked up at Emeric and tilted her head.
"Have you ever told someone that you hated them?" Jax asked intriguingly.

Em edged his way over to the door way, leaning against it slightly as he looked at Jax, clearly still unsure of what to make of her. She was mocking him, making jokes and insulting him a little bit, but he didn’t thoroughly detest her company, which was just strange for him. Sure he found her a little obnoxious, annoying at best, but he didn’t find himself thinking that he wanted her to just jump off the highest tower at Hogwarts as he occasionally found himself thinking about some of the people he had to talk to.
He did wish she would mind her own business a bit when she told him he needed to loosen up. He turned to look at her, not exactly positive if should be glaring at her or laughing. “ I’m fine. “ He answered thickly, once again crossing his arms over his chest as he looked down to the ground. He didn’t need to loosen up… She just needed to calm down a bit. It was like she had eaten too many fizzing whizbees and just couldn't stop floating around. All in all, her exuberancy was slightly annoying, but Emeric tolerated it. Really, what did he have to lose in friendship with this girl? Nothing. He had nothing to lose, and maybe something to gain by befriending this misfit, as she was just as much a misfit as him. Em just wouldn't admit it to her.
" Well really, Jacquelyn, " As he said her full name the Slytherin put on a perfect imitation of a french accent, continuing on in his normal Irish one, " If it's not your brain, then surely something else must be wrong with you. " He looked the girl over with a small smirk on his face, which only reinforced what she said next. " You know... I wouldn't know, and why bother risking my health? " He questioned, his tone dripping with sarcasm. Despite his attitude towards Jax, he didn't hate her or despise her at all. Although it was fun to pretend.
Emeric nodded in a solemn manner as he agreed with the Ravenclaw that his father was talented. Just not in some ways that counted. He let out of scoff that turned into a laugh at the girl's term ' lov' and leav'n. ' Well... at least she wasn't prude or anything. ' Have you ever told someone that you hated them? ' He turned to look at her, away from the spot at the ground he had previously been staring at. " Yes. " He said shortly, not elaborating for a few seconds still. " Do you really hate her? " It took a lot to really honestly hate someone, and up until that point Emeric didn't think the petite Ravengirl had it in her.

And now he was pouting?! Maybe this guy did need to loosen up a bit, and maybe he didn't, but Jax's smile only widened when he crossed his arms and looked toward the ground. Maybe he was more of a girly girl than she thought... giggling to herself, Jax sighed and shook her head. "Awww, come now," she said, again a bit mockingly... but could you blame her? The guy was pouting in owl poo, and he was in Slytherin. "You don't look fine... you look like you need a hug." Jax would have put her arms out, but decided better against it and crossed them instead. "Of course, I'm sure your <i>girlfriends</i> could give you one of those... seeing how much you're like them and all..." That was a burn, and the smirk on Jax's face only told Emeric of it.
Twitch... twitch...
Ugh.. the use of her full name, and with a horrible accent to boot was enough to make Jax's eyes twitch, and her body spaz just slightly. She hated that name... always had. "Maybe, it's that I'm much less a girl than you're expecting. But then again... that's not much of a problem either." It wouldn't be her brian, but rather his at that point. The guy was expecting of her the same girly attributes as the others in their class and she wasn't about to give it. That's probably what it was... not that her brain was off, but the actions that were expected of her. "And as for your health... I'm sure you do that everyday with that girl that sat with us..." Jax snorted talking about Tallulah. She seemed a bit all over Emeric in their class... who knew what they could have been doing outside of class...
"Wouldn't want to risk you health in any way... I'm sure..." Jax laughed.
The wind outside the window blew her paper gently as she leaned it on the windowsill trying to think of what to write and how to write it. Yes, his response heard from behind almost wrenched at Jax's heart. If there was one thing the Raven girl was flawed for, it was having a heart. She didn't want to hate anyone, and as much of a front she put up in front of Celina, and now what would be her mother's letter... she truly couldn't hate either one of them. Em would have been right to think what he was thinking that only the writer knows... Jax couldn't truly hate.... but it never meant that she would ever love or like anyone she despised.
"Of course," she said with an unwavering tone. Another attribute she'd learned to perfect was acting... her hidden truth, and biggest lie that she kept all those years from others and her father helped with that. "I hate her with ever inch of me..." her eyes burned with frustrated moisture. Turning back at Em, she glared, but it was mostly out of habit. Question her, would he? She'd show him. "And now... I'm going to tell her so."
Staring at the paper, it was blank. How did you tell someone you hated them? Especially, when you really didn't know them.
