The Sorting Feast this year had not been held; first years had tried on the hat in a side room away from the rest of the school without the usual tradition ceremony that accompanied it. As far as anyone knows, this had never been done before, and the Headmistress' reasoning had gone untold, baffling the school population at large. Would it be revealed at a later notice? Perhaps.
But nonetheless it was decided that some sort of recognition was to be held for the starting of a brand new year as that tradition at least should not be defied.
A week before classes started, word had been sent around the school for the official "tipping of hats" to the new year. Now the Great Hall was decked to it's usual grandeur. Plates and goblets sparkled against the vibrant colors of their house tables; those tables soon to be occupied by the school's inhabitants.

Lily strode into the great hall. She couldn't wait for tonight. It proved promising for fun. Everyone would be here of course, how could they not? She couldn't wait to sit with her house at a table, perhaps the one time they would all be there. She quickly claimed a spot on the Ravenclaw table, waiting for everyone else. She had to use self-discipline to keep from shouting with excitement.

Christina strolled into the Great Hall. She heard from many sources about a feast to welcome the new year. She was completely aware that they didn't have a sorting feast. So, this up coming feast was probibly going to be used in place of the other. She looked around the Great Hall, seeing few people in it. It seemed that not that many people were there yet. That would all change soon though. She walked over to the Ravenclaw Table, and smiled to Lily. "Hey Lily," she said to her as the 3rd year sat down at the table.

"Hey Christina," she said, hardly able to contain her excitement. She really did love her house and any excuse for them to get together was a good one. Especially for meals she tended to think. Ravenclaw had become her new family and she loved it. "What's up?" She tried to ask Christina coolly and calmly, but that didn't quite work. She was way to excited.

Christina looked at Lily and smiled lightly. She could tell the excitement in Lily's voice. She wondered why she was being so excited. Was there something that she didn't know about? Who knows what it was. She felt that if she asked Lily, it would sound incredibly stupid. So, she kept her coments to herself. "Nothing much, you?" she asked Lily.

"Nothing really," Lily said. "I just can't wait for everyone else to get here. Ravenclaw is my home and I love everyone else in our house. I just can't wait for them to get here. Speaking of everyone else, where are they? Am I extremely early or should they be here by now?" She wondered this outloud to herself and Christina.

Dan looked up from his book as he almost walked right into the wall in front of him, leading to the Great Hall where the celebration was to be held. He stumbled for a moment before snatching the book as it began to fall. " Ha! " He said loudly and looked apologetically at the people that happened to be around him as they stopped and stared for a few moments before continuing on, most of them shaking their heads as they did so.
Dan merely shrugged and walked on over to the Great Hall.

The thought of a feast was exciting. And Keagan was ravished this evening. Glancing up at the sky through the window in the common room, Keagan deemed it about time for such a feast to begin and dashed out the portrait door, waving to the picture of the Fat Lady as the portrait closed. Then, she took off down the stairs at record speed.
In no time at all, she was sliding across the floor of the Ground Floor, but she recovered quickly and turned into the Great Hall, rushing past Dan and sliding onto the bench at the Gryffindor table. The thrill of endorphins in her blood at this point had her heart rushing and her face flushing, and Keagan felt really good.

He was seated at what was to be his standard seat at the staff table, his eyes bouncing form face to face as the student body trickled in. It was the first time he knew of for there to not be a sorting ceremony within the Great hall, for there not to be a sorting ceremony at all.
Robert smiled at some of the expressions, bemused by them, most were energetic, excited, glad to be back, and then, then there was that one expression of tiredness, and they just didn't want to be there, and those were the ones he found the most amusing.

Allegra skipped into the Great Hall, humming happily to herself as she made her way across the room. The start of a new year always filled her with anticipation and hope. No matter how bad the previous year had been, the new year was a clean slate.
"Hello Birds!" she chirpped as she plopped herself into a seat at the Ravenclaw table, grinning at the other Eagles.

"Hey Allegra!" Lily rambled. "You ready for this thing? Do you know where the rest of our house went? Am I just extremely early? I dunno because I have so much energy. Maybe I'll have to go race Drew. Maybe that would get rid of some of the energy. You never know. As long as he doesn't let me win again cause I'm a girl. I thought that was rotten of him. I'd rather lose to a good opponent than win to someone who let me."

"Ok," Christina said to Lily. She giggled lightly as she noticed that Lily was rambling on and on about their house. She shrugged lightly. "Maybe we're a bit early. Though, don't worry, I'm sure the rest will come soon," she replied. She noticed Allegra had came in, and she smiled to her. "Hey Allegra," Christina said to her.

"Oh, Drew would SO let you win just because you're a girl," Allegra answered. "The only one he will flat out beat is me, and that's just so he can rub it in my face... which is why I don't race him anymore."
"Where ARE the boys? Seriously, they should be here," she said.

"I hate it," Lily said. "And he knows I hate it. I just want to race against him fair and square. I used to race all the time. Best one in my school. And he still won't let me race him fair and square. It makes me mad sometimes. I just want the chance that's all. And so what if he beat me? All that would mean is I need to improve some more."

"You're telling me like I don't know," Allegra answered with a shrug before turning to Christina. "So are you ready for this year?" she asked.
