Drew's smile melted away again. "The professors are only repeating what they've been told," he told her. "They weren't there... except for Davenport and Raynor... and... I had to be the one to go get them."

Her heart stopped and her face showed shock and disbelief. He did know. He was there!? Wait.
"You... were there?" she said, a bit too loudly. She looked around, and stepped in closer to talk softer. "You had to get Davenport and Raynor from Hogsmeade?"
She was a bit confused. How could a student get into that situation? And Drew... he'd been at the scene. What if the murderer had still been around?

Drew swallowed hard and nodded solomnly before catching a glimpse of Lianna out of the corner of his eye. The incident still scared the daylights out of him, but he didn't want to let the firstie know that. He gave a sheepish smile and shrugged it off as if it hadn't been a big deal. "Yeah... I was there."

(Woohoo, not forgotten!)
She wanted to just walk away by this point because staying probably meant hearing a full story, a full story she did, but at the same time, didn't want to hear. But her curiosity had her rooted to her spot. Nibbling onher lower lip she found she didn't have the heart or courage to ask what he'd seen. As much as she wanted to know...he would probbaly tell her she didn't need to know anyways or, something to that effect.
She decided to let the two continue talking...they had more catching up to do than she did, obviously.

Layla let out a long breath, trying to think of what to say. But there was nothing to make something like this better. She couldn't imagine the things Drew must have seen, the things he heard. She stood silently in front of her friend, who'd seen so much but still manage to sofa dive in the middle of the day.
"How are you doing?" she asked timidly

"I'm doing okay," Drew answered sheepishly. She didn't need to hear about the nightmares he had been having... not on her first day back. Maybe he'd tell her about them later. he tried to shift the conversation off of him for the time being. "Everyone's kind of wigged out about it, but you kind of have to go on, right?"

"Yea..." she said, though she wasn't sure she meant it. She'd seen the article in the Daily Prophet very recently, moving on so soon seemed like it was easier said than done for anyone. Fro some reason, she realized that the three of them were just... standing in the middle of the entrance hall. For what? She walked to the turned-over ottoman, and knelt to place her arms underneath it. She pushed up and managed only to make it budge slighty. "We have a perfectly functional sofa here, Thornton," she said with a grin. "Help me turn it over."
An act of desparation, yes, but she needed to change the subject. It wasn't good for anyone at the moment, and it obviously making Drew uncomforable.

{shees, you're a weakling. It's an ottoman, not the whole dang couch } Drew went to where Layla was struggling and flipped the footstool over with a small smile, waving his hand and bowing slightly to offer the seat to the two ladies. He'd kip a spot on the floor for now

((Layla's a bit weak. Yes... this is an exaggeration, but work with me here. Let's just say it was a hefty ottoman... one of those stretch ones... mmmkay? )) Layla laughed softly and sat on one end, and patted the empty space beside her to the firstie. It was only at Hogwarts that one could see three students setting up to hang out near the entrance on an ottoman, as if it happened everyday. Of course, when Drew was involved, these things happened all the time. She looked around and took everything in, suddenly becoming a bit sad. This is where she wanted to be, but she still felt something was missing. "So," she continued mildly, "have you guys done a lot of crazy stuff in class? Ugh.. I'm gonna be so bhind." As an afterthought, Layla took her wand out and willed it to emit some sparks. It was all she could do when she was at home without getting owls from the Ministry. She smiled sadly and whispered a small incantation that resulted in three small blue flames dancing around a few inches above her palm. Thoroughly satisfied, she extinguished them.

"Eh... I'll help you catch up no problem," Drew told her confidently. His notes and things were mediocre, but he had swiped all of Allegra's, so even if he didn't know something, he was sure he could figure it out.
But when she performed her neat little flame trick he had to laugh. "Heck...you don't need me. Your'e going to be fine..."

Lianna quite obligingly plopped herself now onto the other half of the footstool, Ottoman, whatever it was called. It was a seat for now. She listened intently to the conversation feelings of concern and what could pass as denial coming from Drew were obvious to her but she made no comment.
The little flame trick was indeed awesome and she found herself still staring at the girl's hand after she'd put them out. Only one word could really fit the situation for her. "Wow...."

Glad they liked her first bit of magic since returning to the Wizarding World, she smiled. "We'll see how everything goes," she told him. "I guess I'm just nervous." She was glad he offered his help, though. Drew was a handful, but he knew his stuff.
Don't worry... Lianna, right? You'll get to do cool stuff, too.:

Lianna was actually surprised her name had been remembered. She had trouble remembering alot of names, faces were no problem. Names AND faces, that was a challange. "Like what?" She questioned, curiously. Sure she knew some of the things the older years did, but her descriptions were basically limited to 'more advanced stuff than what we do'.

Drew could go off on hundreds of spells he knew that he found particularly cool, but there was one that stood out among them all... a spell he had just about mastered and was quite proud of. "Patronus... VERY excellent," he told her.

"A...patranas? What's that?" She questioned blankly, if Drew was mentioning it, it was anyehere between one and three years ahead of her and she knew nothing about it, and, probably couldn't do anything to try and learn it. But, it would be nice to at least know what in the name of Merlin it was.
(Looking back I just realized Layla had no quotes around the sentence I went off of...eh, I'll just assume they were meant to be there :-P
