Arianna stared at the announcement plastered on the large bulletin. Could they make it any bigger? It practically blinded her with the words YULE BALL, flashing in alternating green and red letters. It was, in her opinion, hideous, but no doubt eye catching.
Shaking her head, the girl sighed and glanced about the entrance hall. Though she still had a slight fear of dances (which she would deny even to her friends), Arianna did want to go. She just needed a little push, perhaps.

Lost again.., Brodie thought to himself. He just had to walk out of the library and had to take that staircase. He could beat himself for not asking the way. With a grimace he trudged down the staircase in to (finally) a place he almost knew.
"Finally!" He said, in a quiet tone. Jumping over the last two steps he happily walked into the hall. As he looked around he saw what seemed to be a bright bulletin that was flashing. From where he was standing he could read what it was flashing. "A ball? They have dances here?"
Whilst reading it he noticed the girl that teased him about being held back. Not wanting to scare the girl he walked up slowly and stood next to her, watching the bright flashy lights.

Arianna's eyes had passed over the man as he came down the stairs. It didn't click in her head that this was the man she had bothered in class until she turned back to the bulletin and nearly bumped into him.
"What the...?" now looking at the man, Arianna couldn't figure out how he had gotten from the steps over to where she was so quickly. Steadying herself, she played off her nervousness and continued her teasing. "Come looking for a date?" she questioned.

"Don't think anyone would want to go with me," he said quietly, still watching the lights. After a few seconds he glanced over to the girl. "Why, are you?"

"Not around here, anyway..." Arianna commented with a snort. She turned her head to the man and shook her head.
"Nope," she replied, though she really wouldn't mind having someone to go with. "No date for me."

"And why is that? You don't seem like the worst girl here. Or do you just like going stag?" Brodie hoped he wasn't being too...personal. Not like it would matter to him. He just didn't want an akward silence.

"Boys are a pain," Arianna claimed, unable to keep a slight tinge from her voice. "They say one thing, but then change their minds and expect you to know before they've even said anything to you. It's better not to get involved with them."

"Boys are a pain.." He said, laughing slightly. Though, thats why they're fun.., Brodie thought to himself. "Not all boys are a pain. Some aren't so...shifty."

"Shifty's not the right work," Arianna claimed with a slow nod. "Shifty implies that they do it on purpose. I know most of them don't do that stuff on purpose, but they need to realize they can't be sending us one message when they mean a completely different thing."

"We guys just can't decide on one thing. From my expirance they're.." He stopped, the colour from his face drained slightly. "Us men are just a pain."

"Yes," Arianna gave a short nod. She completely agreed. Time and again she had been disappointed and/or confused by numerous boys. Okay, really she could only count them on one hand, but it still felt like a whole lot more than that.
"The worst part is," she continued, turning away from the bulletin so she face the man more fully, "we girls still can't help but like them. Unless they're complete jerks, that is."
