So he was finally a student at Hogwarts, officially. He wrote to his family the morning after. He told them he's been sorted into Ravenclaw (Take that Rick, I am not dumb!). He wanted to tell his mom he missed her, but feared that his brothers would never let him hear the end of it.
On a happy note, he could now explore the castle freely. Well, he decided to leave the more dangerous and thus more exciting part for later. It's not that he's afraid, but knowing what you could do and what you couldn't, was better than running into danger blindly in his opinions. He would eventually have his fun in, say, the Forbidden Forest, just not yet.
So there he was, just chilling in the courtyard, sitting at the root of a tree. He wondered if people would mind if he went for a swim in the lake. That would be relaxing.

Ok, so she wasn't exactly the birghtest crayon in the box. Which is what led Krissy to being up in the tree that Kyle had sat under. It was a new one of her attempts to fly... without a broom stick. Ok, so the last sat of rocket powered shoes hadnt worked out that well.. Actually that hadn't really worked at all, apart from sending her flying accross the floor. This time instead she had equiped jet packs to the bottum of the shoes, not the back of them. And Krissy figured maybe if she started in the air maybe just maybe they'd keep her up. She hadn't yet noticed the small boy sitting at the bottum of her tree. She had climbed right to the top of the tree and was making the final adjustments to her shoes. Her backpack was sitting on the opposite side of the tree to Kyle, next to a big bucket of water. Krissy had a habit of making things explode.
Krissy prepaired herself and then jumped from the top of the tree, hitting the big red button on the remote control she held in her hands. Her leap sent her flying out of the tree and she dropped a couple metre's before she hit the button. The jets took off and for a moment it seemed that Krissy hovered in mid air...
But alas, it didnt work, and so instead of flying like she had hoped she did a wonderful job of falling about 3 and a half metres and hitting the ground a few metres in front of Kyle with a large thump. "Umph" she said as she hit the ground with her side. Yeah that would sting for a while. It was probably a very surprising site for Kyle to see a girl come falling from somewhere above him.

All the while he thought the noise came from a way too active squirrel. So he was quite unprepared when he heard the thud and saw a person falling from somewhere up there onto the ground. So unprepared that he actually squealed.
It took him another minute or so before he could react. "Am you really a human being? Or is my mind playing tricks on me already?"

Krissy slowly sat up tossing her flaming red hair out of the way. She grinned at the small boy having heard his question. "Nar, I'm really an alien come to eat your brains" She said to him flashing him a smile.
She grimaced slightly as she moved the shoulder she had landed on. Yeah that would be sore for a few days. All in all she was ok, and she kenw it, she just had a few spots that would have some nice bruises on them in a few days. She could also feel the throbbing in her side where she had a huge cut. It wasn't from this fall, she had done it during the holidays and it hadnt fixed yet.
She looked back to the boy, grinning once more. "Ok I half lied there" she said still smiling. "I'm not an alien, but I do want to eat your brains, actually no I dont, Ok so I lied in that whoe sentence, but thats ok. My names Krissy" Yes she was being silly. She was one of the only people who could fall from a tree and still act like an idiot and like nothing had happened.

Some things started to register in Kyle's brain. One, this girl was a human. Two, she just fell from somewhere, yet, she didn't seem to mind that much, which was rather odd. He had his fair share of falling from somewhere experience, and each left him in pain for some time. And none of those time could he be nearly as cheerful as this girl was. Three, her response was a bit unusual.
"Hi Krissy," he replied eventually. "Should I go get someone? Or get you to hospital wing?"

Krissy laughed "I only fell out of a tree" she grinned. She hated the hospital wing and even if she went there she would fight to not get healed by them. She hated magical healing with a vengence so she used muggle healing all the time. She didn't see a problem in falling frm a tree too, sure some parts of her were hurting, but there was nothing anyone could to to help them so she didn't need medical help, nothing was broken, so she was fine.
"Ain't nuttin' the hospital wing could do anyway. Don't worry bout me kiddo I'm fine" Krissy grinned. She also kicked off her shoes now, and picked one up looking at the small rocket booster she had equiped to the bottum. She figured she probably hadn't put enough boost into it. She'd have to work out a new way. "So ya must be a firstie right?" Krissy said looking back to the boy

"Hey, I maybe a Firstie, but I sure am not a kiddo," Kyle protested in dismay. Sure she's probably in older year, but calling him a kiddo was just too much. He maybe small, but he's not a kiddo.
He saw the funny thing on her shoes, and had no idea what they were. Perhaps the girl's working on some strange project for school? He didn't really recognize it as anything he knew, muggle nor magical objects.

Krissy laughed at the kid. "Well I wouldn't have ta call ya kiddo if I knew your name" she said to him a matter a factly. She called alot of people kiddo until she knew their names, and sometimes after she knew them, as long as they didn't mind. Sure alot of them didn't like it, some didn't mind though.
Krissy noticed him looking at her shoe "I don't think I gave it enough power" she said with a small laugh, "Think I need to rethink the design" she didn't think about the fact that he probably wouldn't even know what they were, or what they were for.

"Kyle Hersten from Ravenclaw," he said. Of course the girl had probably noticed the blud badge on his uniform, but being a newly sorted first year, that obviously seemed like a very important piece of information that he just ought to tell others.
"So what are these?" he asked after sitting down beside her. "Some sort of charms project?" He said that because charms seemed to be the only subject which required people flying. Either that it's some Quidditch related thing.

Krissy smiled. "Its nice to meet you Kyle" she said to him. She knew he was a Ravenclaw she had already noticed the badge, something she did automatically on meeting people at Hogwarts. "I'm a hufflepuff" she said to him, thinking he might wanna know.
When he asked about he shoes she grinned. She loved telling people about her inventions, and he was less likely to think she was crazy than someone her own age, and even if he did, it didn't matter that much as she had only just met him. "Nar, their an invention of my own, just sorta fiddeling around with them for the fun of it" she told Kyle handing him one so he could look at it. "I'm trying to find a way to fly without the aid of wings or a broomstick. Their supposed to be rocket powered shoes, but I just haven't worked out how to do them properly. I really thought I had it this time though" She tipped the shoe she was holding upside down, examining the rocket part, then turning a knob on the rocket.

"Okay..." he replied. A couple of his friends, and himself included, had the idea of "flying" when they were younger too. But they pretty much limited themselves to jumping down from a tree or something. None of them actually ventured that far into the concept.
"Why do you put them on the bottom of your shoes though?" he wondered out loud, remembering something he saw on TV once. "I mean, it won't support you very well, and you are more likely to loose your balance."

Krissy listened to what Kyle had to say. "Mmm..." she said thinking about it. "You do have a good point there... But I mean jetpacks are so over done..." she said looking over her shoes once more. He did have a very good point, the feet wouldn't give you much balance. "And I thought if there's gunna be flames coming out the bottum, you'd have to put it on the lowest point of the body so that ya don't get burnt"
Krissy disconnected the rocket from the shoe and looked at it. Maybe Kyle was right. If she didn't connect it to the shoes it might work better, but she did need to up the power a bit more. They didn't even hold her weight up at all when she came out of the tree. She was glad Kyle wasn't looking at her like she was crazy, the last person she told she was trying to make rocket powered shoes she could have sworn thought she was insane.

"It's not a question of over-doing or not as long as it works right?" he shrugged. "And for the flames, you can always somehow directed away from your body, so you won't get burned."
The conversation really was a bit weird. He would thought that everyone would be more interested in magic instead of muggle devices here. But apparently, he's wrong.

Krissy nodded "Yeah, but I wanted to make something that someone hadn't made before, and jetpacks are just muggle stuff, and I've mixed some magical stuff in these" Krissy grinned. The kid had alot of good points too that Krissy hadn't exactly thought of. "Hmmm yeah you oculd direct the flames away... your right"
She looked closely at the rocket "Hey... what if I attached handle bar type things to the shoes to help with balance..." Krissy grinned. Now there was an idea. She had been to a magical school for long enough to know that muggle stuff was fun too.

Kyle looked at the girl, and realized she really was going to do the changes. And more importantly, she's all ready to fall from the tree again. "It sure doesn't hurt to try," he replied. Of course it would great if she actually did make it work, but Kyle had to admit he was not exactly that kind of people. He got bored easily.
"How long have you been doing this?" he then asked, wondering if she had been doing the same thing for the past 6 years.
