Leave it to Devon Coleman to arrive just when food was going to be served. It was almost lunch time, and Devon's stomach growled as he opened the great oak doors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He dragged his trunk along with him, as well as another bag for his other "supplies". No, he wouldn't cause too much trouble. Yet. He'd just arrived, after all. He'd wait at least an hour before he started causing trouble and landing himself in the Headmistress' office.
Devon set down his trunk and pulled a crumpled piece of parchment and looked it over, muttering to himself as he tried to figure out where he needed to go. His stomach grumbled again, and he wanted to just get some food, but he didn't want to lug his trunk with him.
As he muttered, a few words escaped that were audible. Actually, 4 words. "Gryffindor House...password...tower...," he muttered. He looked up, at the stair case in front of him, wondering how the heck he was going to get his trunk up all those stairs. He sighed, still looking up, and hoping someone would come rescue him.

Only one thing brought Lauren Stone up from the dungeons, well other than the fact that it was getting boring down there, and that was food. Lauren, for some reason, loved the way the food tasted. Maybe it was because they didn't just get a sandwhich, they got amazing food everyday. Something different lingered in the air, what was it.
Spaghetti and Grilled Cheese, if her nose worked correctly, this is. It was an interesting combo, or so it smelled, but Lauren wasn't complaining. Either worked for her, and if they were gross, she'd just have the snacks.
However, she was stopped in front of the Enterance. Well, actually she stopped herself, looking at a boy with a piece of parchment and a trunk. She remembered those days when she was new, but he didn't necessarily look that young, maybe around her age. She hesitated on whether or not to stop, but finally decided the food would be there later, or at least, it better be.
"Hey newb," she said. She knew right away he was new, without the trunk or dazed look, but by the way he carried himself.

Devon looked at the girl who spoked to him. He gave her a weird look, but smiled. "Thanks. Hi to you too," he replied. His eyes quickly flicked to her robes and he saw a green crest with a snake in it. Slytherin, he guessed. He had heard something about some kind of Gryffindor/Slytherin rivalry, but he didn't really care. He would have preferred to stay out of that. Devon had better things to do with his time. Like cause trouble.
"I've Devon, by the way. Devon Coleman," he said, offering his hand out to shake the girl's. She seemed nice enough, even though she had just called him a "newb". He actually wasn't all that sure what it meant, but he assumed it was some kind of insult.

((Hmm, I'll just say you have your robes on, because I believe you have to, or whatever don't pay THAT much attention in the books.)) Lauren nodded, noting the coat of arms upon his robes. Gryffindor, and granted Lauren didn't know many Gryffindors so she wasn't about to start commotion, just because the guy was new. After, some people take to the school really well and others don't. Lauren thought of Patrick for a moment, he really took to the school. He was popular, or atleast well known, almost instantly. And then there were people like Lauren, who hardly had friends outside their own house. Lauren took his hand willingly and shook it, "Pleasure, of course," her voice was a bit monotonous for that particular sentence, but she that didn't stop the small grin that was on her face. "Lauren Stone, Slytherin." She said. "And you'll do well to remember that," this addition was a bit rude, but Lauren couldn't help it. She needed to get out the word that she could live up to her house name of Slytherin, and why not start with the newbies. Only then Lauren softed up a bit, "So, looks like you'll be having fun taking that thing up to your Common Room. I got lucky, only one floor down," she said nodding to the doorway to the stairs. "That's the bad thing about not coming at the begging of the year, they don't take care of your bags." She shrugged.

Devon shook Lauren's hand and a smile crept across his face too. He raised an eyebrow at her comment about him remembering her name, and he even chuckled a little, not really thinking it was rude or way out there. "I'll remember, Lauren," he replied with a grin. His Irish accent was unusually thick for some reason. On particular words, it really stuck out, and it annoyed Devon sometimes. Still, there was nothing he could to to change that, so he gave up trying.
"Yeah I noticed what a climb it was. I wonder if I could levitate it up...," Devon's voice trailed off slightly as he thought out loud, and pulled out his wand. He levitated his trunk up, and started it up the stairs. It had gone almost the whole way, but then it stopped. And started coming back down. It was coming fast, and it was coming right towards them. "Uh oh," Devon said. He leapt off to the side, out of it's path and pulled Lauren with him. The trunk skidded across the Entrance Hall, making a horrible screeching noise as it did, and hit the doors, coming to a stop.
"Maybe...not," Devon chuckled.

"Yup, it sure is up there," she said, agreeing with him. Watching as he tried to levitate it up there, she smirked. He pulled her out of the way as it came down, back toward them. Her eyes followed the trunk that was skidding across the floor.
"No, it works," she said, pulling out her own wand. His wand was probably designed for other things besides charm work. She muttered the charm and whipped her wand so that the trunk levitated and made its way swiftly up the stairs.
"You need to have a destination in mind, instead of trying to guide it. Of course, it probably would help if you knew the castle more," she said. Then she looked back at Devon, from where the trunk had been flying. Quickly, she whipped her wand back his way, bringing the trunk back.
"Unless, you'd like to try," she said as she lowered his trunk back to the ground.

Devon raised his hands in the air, palms out, and back up, shaking his head. "No way. Not a bloody chance I'm tryin' that again," he said, chuckling lightly as well, "If you can get it up all of the stairs, more power to ya."
Devon wasn't much of a Charms kind of boy. He preferred things like Potions. There was no way he was going to that one again, not after almost having the trunk take him out. If Lauren knew the way, he was going to just let her lead.

Lauren cocked an eyebrow and nodded. She whipped her wand like she had mere seconds ago, muttering the same words and watched the trunk soar again.
"It gets simpler," she said. "Well now that that's done with, you can either try to find your common room, or have lunch with me. Because, honestly, I've got better things to do than stand out here and mingle, like eat. And I'm hungry, so that's what I'm going to do," she explained to Devon.
She opened the door to the Great Hall and looked at him questioningly.

"I think I'll try to find it later," Devon said, "I'm starving." Devon glanced at the stairs one more time, thinking that he was going to have to find his Common Room as soon as he was finished eating. But it would have to wait until then at least. His stomach let off an angry growl, and Devon followed after Lauren as she opened the door and looked at him.
"Thanks," he thanked her, entering into the room on the other side of the door.

Lauren easily beat him to her own Slytherin table. There was hardly anyone there, seeing as most of the Slytherins liked to be fashionably late once lunch was served. However, there were a few spread around the table. One good thing about being early, in comparison to the other Slytherins, was that you got first dibs. There was always plenty food at the Slytherin table, until the late crowd came, and in comparison to the other tables, she was glad she was a Slytherin right now.
"Come on, you can sit here." She pointed to the seat across from her and planted her bum firmly and comfortably so she could eat. Looking around she studied her options.
