It did not take long. Word spread like wildfire through the wizarding community. Newspapers spread the next morning of the event, the front page covered in images of a blanketed body, the Shrieking Shack, and Swarming Ministry Officials.
Hogsmeade Village. It was apparently a day like any other in Hogsmeade Village, which was blessed with one of the regular trips by Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. But appearances are deceiving. It has just been confirmed that Avery Thorne, Ancient Runes Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft of Wizardry, sister of the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot was murdered yesterday on March 22, 2006.
She was chaperoning on the Hogsmeade Trip and was assigned to stand guard over the Shrieking Shack, which has been haunted for centuries. "Students try to sneak up there all the time," said Madam Rosmerta, long-time owner of The Three Broomsticks, a pub in Hogsmeade Village, "they have to be chased off constantly during trips." No doubt the idea of the most haunted building in all of Great Britain is drawling enough for some of the youngsters.
Sources rely to us that the Professor was found inside the Shrieking Shack, on the second floor of the foundation. Many witnesses confirm that they heard a scream sometime around 10:30 in the morning, about an hour after the start of the trip, and saw a flash of green light omit from the old house. The body was unmarked when found, suggesting that the Killing Curse was indeed used.
Other sources admit seeing five young students being escorted from the premises by an adult, of which we later made an inquiry to one, Tamis Raynor, Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts and one-time Auror. "Hogwarts has been placed under a lock down. All of the students have been returned to the castle safe and sound. That is all you need to bother yourself with. No further comment." She refused to tell us anything else.
Now the question arises, is this possibly related to the "Elevens" attacks recently exhibited in London and various other locations. Is this connected with Big Ben?
"There is no current evidence of such relations," commented the Head of the Magical Law Enforcement Department, "we cannot rush to conclusions." Another very closed-lipped answer.
A murder has not taken place this close to Hogwarts since the tragedy of Albus Dumbledore. Is this a sign that Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry should never have been reopened? Rita Skeeter, Daily Prophet Reporter
