The Daily Prophet, already aflame with vicious stories these past weeks sports an image of a disgruntled Malanda Walmsley, Head of Magical Education slamming a door in the face of the press on the front cover of the September 10th (RP time) issue of the Daily Prophet.
August 16th 2006, Ministry of Magic. On the 15th of August, Jade Estaci, a soon-to-be Fifth Year Slytherin at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was enjoying a calm and collective day in Hogsmeade Village, soaking in the last few weeks of her summer break when she was confronted by a Ministry Auror. The young girl was accused of being involved with the murder of Avery Thorne without evidential proof and was arrest on the spot. A spectacle that witnesses were dumbfound over.
"She looked like a nice girl," Angie Sadler, a passerby, stated, "she was just minding her own business when the auror confronted her. They exchanged a few words, she moved to leave, he grabbed her and arrested her. To see such behavior from a Ministry Official was atrocious."
Such comments were echoed by other witnesses in the area. Our insiders inside the Ministry of Magic report of a conflict residing there. Where it is said that various political leaders such as Malanda Walsmley (Head of the Educational Department) and Cody Thorne (Wizengamot Administration) appeared on the scene as well as other members from both the Education and Law Enforcement Departments.
We were not able to contact the victim, Miss Estaci, but visitors to the Ministry of Magic who witnessed the following meeting gathered enough information to speak for her.
"Miss Walsmley was livid," a member of the Magical Transportation filled us in, "she was yelling her head off of the auror that brought the girl in. Apparently, he did not go through the proper measures of arresting a minor and not on a proper cause. She was yelling something about arresting minors off of 'assumptions'."
And there you have it. Has the Ministry lost control of its Law Enforcement? Have we reverted back to those years of darkness when they threw innocents into Azkaban with accusations of being Death Eaters? Is the same thing going to happen now with all this talk about Elevens roaming about? Concerned citizens seem to think so. And the fact that security over Hogwarts is going to tighten further on Hogwarts come September First only furthers those concerns.
When we confronted Malanda Walsmley about this arrest of a Minor and what it might mean for Hogwarts, she slammed the door in our faces with only one final thing to say: "I have already told your reporters all they need to know about the arrest of Miss Estaci. If you want dirt on me, go to Thorne or his auror cronies, they'll be happy to give it!"
Apparently she was her own lack of trust in the Law Enforcement. Should we as well?
