Last night had been headaches and exhaustion, and this morning, Mother was experiencing terrible morning sickness. Father, of course, felt he needed to stay by her side. The weather had cleared considerably, though the cold was still biting, and Lizzy had been desperate enough for a change of scenery to leave the Leaky Cauldron, even with Celia in tow. "Lizzy, Lizzy," Celia said in a sing-song voice between bouts of humming. It seemed the younger girl had composed a new song, of which the only words were her older sister's name.
What is it about little sisters that makes them have to be annoying? Elizabeth asked herself, pondering the question as she plowed through the slush on the side of the alley without lifting her feet. It was times like these that made the twelve-year-old long for boarding school and let Celia deal with Mother's mood swings; it would do her good.
Lizzy's musings turned to mutterings soon afterward as Celia latched on to the sleeve of her heavy coat. Despite the strong desire to shake the younger girl off, Liz knew better. If Celia fell, and Merlin forbid, got wet, Elizabeth would never hear the end of it.

Not again. Kylie thought as her mother's cell phone went off. She was really starting to wonder why her mother had even bothered to schedule off the couple of weeks, because it seemed to her that she was spending her vacation at the office anyways. Yes, Yes, she knew that the Natesce account was an important account and that it could potentially bring in big business for the firm, but why did the deal have to be made on Winter Holiday. Why couldn't it be made after the holidays when everyone was back at the office anyways. 'Because they want to make a deal right away so that they can get it built as soon as possible' her mother had said when Kylie asked. This account was apparently for the building of a major hotel chain in ten American states.
Not wanting to get stuck at the office again for another couple of hours Kylie had asked her mom if she could go to Diagon Alley while her mother did whatever she had to do. Her mother reluctantly said yes after making her promise that she wouldn't leave Diagon Alley until she came and got her. She was allowed to go to all of the shops and the Leaky Cauldron, but not out into London by herself. After her mother dropped her off at the front doors of the Leaky Cauldron Kylie made her way into Diagon Alley through the secret back entrance. She glanced around the streets and saw the Gryffindor second year that she had met at the Leaky Cauldron just the pervious night. “Hi Liz” Kylie said walking over to her and her little sister, “How’s it going?”

[Just a note to make: Liz doesn't know her house - it hasn't been assigned her yet. Just so you know that your character can't know it, either, 'kay?]
Leaning slightly to the right, as Celia was placing a considerable amount of her nine-year old weight on that arm, Lizzy continued to walk through the muck and slush. She wished, briefly, that she could use her magic to clear her path, but Liz knew that such an action would take away from the fun of the experience. As if it was fun to begin with, she thought as she muttered incoherently something along the same lines.
Elizabeth turned her head slightly to look at her sister after almost falling herself as her boot slipped over a misplaced stone in the trail she was digging with her feet. "Is it at all possible that you could support yourself while you walk, Celia?" she asked, a learned calmness to her voice that contrasted greatly against the tense glint in her brown eyes. Liz had learned early on that the only way to rationalize with this spoiled little girl was to be tolerant and treat her like an adult, despite the stretch of imagination such treatment required. However, that didn't mean she couldn't get a little mad...right?
Cowering a bit, Celia's grip on Lizzy's coat sleeve loosened and her left hand slipped down and grasped the older girl's hand instead; this the twelve year old could deal with. Liz hadn't mentioned the singing, though, and the sneaky glint in Celia's eye showed that she had noticed before she started in on the reprise of her earlier song. "Lizzy, Lizzy..."
Rolling her eyes, Elizabeth turned to look back at the street as she slopped through the mush beneath her feet. It was then that she noticed the older girl approaching from down the way. "Hi Kylie," Celia piped up, making sure she was noticed though she hadn't been addressed.
"Yeah, hi," Liz replied, nudging her sister with their clasped hands in response to her rudeness. Celia only scowled. "Just out for a little walk."
