There was a lot of noise on the streets of Diagon Alley, and there were other loud noises coming from inside the shops that were crowded with people young and old. Families ambled along smiling cheerily at all those who passed. Fyona was part of one such family, but her smile was not one of cheer, but of pure amazement. This was her first year at the Festival of Yule. Normally she spent the holidays with her mother's family or her father's family in Wales, but this year they decided to come to England for a while for the festival. The twelve year old had been ecstatic at the news and now that she was finally here she could find no words for the things she saw. The place look completely different than it did when she was here for school shopping or something, or for business. At Christmas time the place looked...well....Christmassy. In a nice way.
The girl followed behind her parents. Her head swaying this way and that way trying to get a look at everything at once. She was not the only one to be looking at all the green and red lights, and the bright glow of the shops. There was also her little sister trudging along at her side who was just as excited about being there as Fyona. The light haired brunette wore a dark blue robe meant to represent the color of the evening sky, and on it Santa raced around and around in his sleigh. Gifts falling gently out the bag to land into some chimney unseen. It was actually pretty nice. Fyona had a bright red nose and real (for the time being anyway) antlers growing out of her head. The extra did not help the balancing act she was trying to perform while moving her head to follow all the strangers and peer into the stalls they passed.
Her younger brother looked at her movements with a silly smile on his face over his mum's shoulder. He had on a green hat with red trim and bells that jingled every time her mum took a step. One big happy family having fun. Only Fyona wanted to go off and look at things on her own.
"Mummy.." she asked softly as she pulled up next to the red haired lady caring Jair. "Can I go look at that stuff over there?...Please?"
Sian looked at her rather skeptically, but then her father chimed in. "I'm sure there is no harm in it as long as you don't stray too far." A sharp look from Sian and her father smiled and pushed Fyona in a different direction. "Here, you can go on with Jair and I will watch the girls here. Okay?"
"Fine, but you better keep a close eye on them," she warned. The article she read about DADA being abolished from the curriculum still fresh in her mind.
Fyona's smile grew wide and she waited not a second longer. "I will be real careful promise," she said as she walked quickly away. Her charm bracelet she received for Christmas rattled away as she walked towards a vender selling chocolate drinks and pastries. She purchased some green chocolate drink with red sugar drizzled on top. Taking a huge gulp her head was still following all there was see, and the smells!!! The smell of food always cheered her up. There were many tasty things here to eat, and lots of things to see.
What should I do first?...Wait, lemme sit down first so the place can stop spinning.
