Dean shuffled through the crowd of people, a slight smirk on his face as he avoided a close run-in with a busy looking witch wearing about twenty hats on her head. It wasa marvel they didn't all topple over when she almost ran into a vendor's car about three feet away. Magic. The thought came to him as for why the hats didn't come tumbling down and he shook his head. He had been out of it for too long if it took him that amount of time to decide that magic was the reason for something. He stuffed his hands into his pockets as he kept on moving down the way. He turned his head slightly to the left and caught sight of a vendor selling drinks and food. The smell of butterbeer reminded Dean that he was extremely thirsty. While he did want to find himself a drink, he didn't feel like standing out in the snow while he did so.
Dean crossed his way over the street and walked into the Leaky Cauldron. The smell of firewhisky, butterbeer and food hit him like a brickwall as he entered the building. He sat down at the bar and ordered a butterbeer. Once he got it Dean paid for the beverage and took a drink, allowing the warm liquid to slide down his throat and into his stomach. It warmed him instantly. He was about to take another drink when he felt someone tap lightly on his shoulder. He turned around to face the person.

After keeping herself cooped inside for most of the day before while feeling a bit under the weather, Keagan had decided that she would definitely head out today, even if there was still a slight tickle in her throat. Her blond tresses had been thrown up in a pair of hair sticks, securing the mess securely to her head, and she was warmly wrapped in corduroys, a sweater, and a thigh length winter coat. The Gryffindor was donning the last of her attire, her House scarf, as she descended the stairs from her room and headed toward the bar to leave word with the keep of her whereabouts; her uncle was bound to check up on her sometime soon.
That's when she caught sight of a strangely familiar figure. It was his eyes that had caught her notice, for aside from that she wasn't really sure if he was who she thought he was. All Keag knew was that she knew him from somewhere. Taking a few steps closer to the boy, she reached out to tap him, but withdrew her hand as she had second thoughts. Somehow, she mustered some of her Gryffindor courage and reached out again, tapping lightly, but firmly, on his shoulder.
He turned. "I thought that was you!" Keagan exclaimed, all bad blood forgotten as she beamed at the boy and wrapped her arms around him in a hug.

Dean was extremely suprised to see one Keagan Gerislynn standing in front of him. He felt a grin quickly growing on his features as the girl embraced him. He hugged her back and said, " Wow, hey. " He was still getting over the shock of actually seeing someone he knew from back at school, let alone Keagan of all people. Not that he minded, really. He smiled and broke away from the hug as he went on, " How've you been? What's up? How's being a seventh year? " The words streamed from his mouth before he even had time to think about it.
He grinned sheepishly. He was in desperate need for information, some information of any kind would do. He wanted to know if there were any new professors, how the classes were, what was going on with everyone. He had missed alot by not being there for the first part of term. Dean knew that if he planned on graduating with his class once he got back from winter break he would have to work twice as hard to make up for lost time.

Keagan pulled away from him, still beaming with excitement. At least the surprise and excitement at seeing the Slytherin would have brought some color back to her face. "I've been doing well, actually. I've managed to increase my course load a bit. My future's looking brighter now that I have some goals for my life. Other than that, school's...school, you know?" She really wasn't sure how to begin.
So much had happened in the last sixth months, and yet not so much. She was sure he would have heard about what happened with Raynor, and the uproar with Marcos and Brady; the papers were plastered with that news, though half of it was blown way out of proportion.
"How about you? You just kind of...disappeared there for awhile, huh? Has everything been alright?"

Dean nodded as Keag explained how she had increased her course load, " That's good, good for you Keag. " He told her with a smile. She had always talked about wanting to better herself by increasing her classes so he was happy for her that she had actually done it. He set his bottle down on his leg as he listened to the Gryffindor talk. He grinned somewhat as she mentioned school being just that, school. " Yeah, I know.. All the drama. " He joked with a chuckle, but then went on seriously to answer her question if everything had been alright.
He cleared his throat, somewhat ashamed of what he was about to tell Keagan, but he knew he could trust her. He decided to just go on with the whole story, " My dad got fired from his job before the term even started. Upon finding out why my father was fired, me mum promptly kicked him out. Nice, huh? " He sighed, then went on, " So I had to work instead of going to school for a while until my mom got up on her feet again... " There was more to the story but he felt a little overwhelmed telling someone all at once when he had barely talked about what had happened to his mother.

"Did your father get fired because of you?" That part had confused the Gryffindor, but she felt awkward pressing. They'd never had a very open relationship in the first place; she didn't want to push him into sharing when they hadn't seen him in what seemed to the seventeen year old like forever.
"Are you still living by yourself?" she asked, a part of her wondering if there was anyway she could help her former boyfriend and another part feeling guilty for pitying him without a solid reason to.

Dean shook his head slightly, running a hand through his hair out of habit. The entire situation was rather complicated, but he tried to explain, " I guess my dad was stealing from the company, which is owned by my grandfather. Hence the reason he was kicked out, among other reasons as well. " Dean withheld the sigh that was about to escape from him. He lifted the bottle to his lips and took a long drink of butterbeer before answering her question. " By myself? No, I'm living with my mom, Henryk and Anja. " He shrugged slightly and then said, " My mom's never really had to work before now.. It was quite a change for her, really. She needed me to stay home and work, so I did. "

Keagan blinked as she listened. She was either an idiot or was having difficulty hearing, for she had misheard him and then asked, in the light of the misunderstanding, two ridiculous questions.
"I must have misheard you," Keagan muttered, blushing and turning away, only to catch the eye of the barkeep who was gazing at her with a knowing look which only showed how much he did not know.
"Have you seen your dad since?"

Dean smiled slightly at Keag's embarassed mutterings, " Hm, no problem. " He half shrugged his shoulders at her next question. " A couple time when he came to pick up Henryk or Anja.. I didn't really want to see him. " He told her with a slightly annoyed expression, not directed at Keag, but his father for putting them all through that. " I s'pose he's coming over tomorrow afternoon to give us gifts and all for Christmas Eve. " He looked slightly distracted as he thought about a visit from his father, but his expression softened slightly as he asked her, " So, what're you doing for Christmas then? "

"You'll forgive him eventually," the Gryffindor stated naively, forgetting that everyone else on this planet, Magical or Muggle, wasn't just like her. She never realized the just how naive she was in that moment, for he asked her a question, a nice change of pace for the conversation in which she seemed to be dragging personal information from the poor boy.
"I think I'm popping over to Paris tomorrow for a few days. I've really stayed here longer than I intended in the first place. My plan was to spend a day on the Alley for the first night of the festival, then go stay with Uncle John, but it's just so nice here, he thought it would be alright for me to stay here before heading to Paris and then coming back again after."

Dean smiled, a slightly amused expression on his face as Keag told him that he would eventually forgive his father. He only nodded, decided not to tell her that she might be right, but for now he was still very angry with his father. The anger he could deal with, but it was the dissapointment that made him hesitant to see his father again. Dean was dissapointed by the fact that his father could even do that to family, but there were other things that puzzled him, too about the whole situation.
Dean perked up slightly as the topic was changed by Keagan answering his question of what she was doing for Christmas. " That sounds exciting, visiting Paris and all. Been back across the pond lately? " He asked curiously with a smile because he was pretty sure that Keag's parents still lived in Rhode Island or something like that.

"You remember that, huh? To think, I've maintained the whole American sound after four and a half years of schooling over here," Keagan replied with a laugh, hoping that there would come a day when she would truly fit in on this foreign continent that was feeling more and more like home.
"I spent the summer in Rhode Island, as always. Mother was of a pathetic sort when John and I finally arrived, but I never quite trust her sobbing. Wouldn't she be requesting me to come home over this break if she really missed me all that much? By now, doing so is just routine, and it's a lot easier on me with nearly all my friends over on this side of that pond. Are you still learning languages?"

Dean nodded to her rhetorical question of him remembering that. He had actually suprised himself with how he had remembered that about Keag's family. During the course of their relationship they hadn't been the most.. talkative people. Or rather, he hadn't. Dean joined in on Keag's laughter and said, " Eh, at least you don't have a mixture of about three accents all rolled into one. " He shook his head slightly with a grin as Keag went on. " Hm.. She's probably not used to seeing you over Winter break so it's not a big deal. " He half shrugged, not trying to make excuses for the Gryffindor's mom or anything.
In responce to her next question Dean said, " Kind of on and off, " He took another drink of his butterbeer before looking over at Keag and saying, " Haven't really had much time lately. Maybe once I get back to Hogwart's in a few days...? Who knows. " He said the last sentence with a slight smirk on his face.

"She was the one who suggested I stay the winter holidays in France the first year or two. Then she never requested a change. I love her dearly, but sometimes her ways just don't make any sense to me." boy
Keagan finally realized that she was just standing there and moved to take a seat at the bar beside the Slytherin. With a nod to the barkeeper, she sent the signal to him that she would have her usual. He winked back and went about preparing her hot chocolate, just the way she liked it. The cup was warm to her touch when it was quickly set before her. She made sure she had a small foam mustache before replying to Dean's last statement; she was too excited by his comment to even move to wipe it away.
"So you are coming back?" she exclaimed, questioningly. "That's so awesome. I've been hoping all of my friends in our year would be around to graduate together. I think we're still missing Lily, though."

Dean nodded, " I don't think parents think they have to make much sense to us. " He chuckled mostly because he thought it was true. As Keag took the seat next to him Dean turned in his own seat so he could talk to her while they sat. As the barman set down the girl's drink he knew exactly what it was by it's distinct chocolatey smell. He grinned at her choice of beverage and then started laughing as Keag looked back up at him with a small foamy mustache on her upperlip.
Seeing as how the girl didn't pay any attention to her new ' facial hair ', Dean tried to regain his composure and answer her question. With a grin still on his face he answered, " Yeah. That's one ofthe reasons I'm here other than the festival is to get some last minute things before school starts back up again... " He trailed off thinking of Lily, he'd been friends with her, but that was a long time ago. He then went on, " I was hoping that I could talk to one of the Professors about increasing my courses or something to make up for the lost time so I can graduate with everyone. "
