QUESTIONS UNANSWERED: Hogwarts New Staff and Their PositionsWith the gaining attention Hogwarts has been collecting, students and staff alike must ask themselves many questions pertaining to the new hires. Why the sudden rush? Why were Professors so eager to up and leave the school in a time of need? And where did Headmistress Raynor find so many eager faces to join in such times? Here are a few things we know about the new hires, their rising positions throughout the school, and a few questions that have been whispered by students throughout the corridors: Fauna Hectis- Currently, the Herbology Professor as of October 2007, and
- Deputy Head Mistress as of January 2008.
- Hired by Head Mistress Raynor.
Questions circulating:1.) What makes you acceptable for the position of Deputy Head Mistress? In other words, what makes you qualified? 2.) What is with the motherly act? No one can look and be that innocent. 3.) What is your story? Who are you? 4.) Where were you in January when we needed you? Devin Brady- Head of House for Gryffindor, and Professor of Transfiguration
- Hired by Head Mistress Raynor
- Ex-auror; worked with the Ministry for fifteen years
- Skilled legilmence; doesn’t even need his wand to tap into another’s thoughts.
- Dismissed from Ministry after a little…accident.
[/li][/ul] Questions Circulating:1.) How does one just “lose it” and attack another at the risk of a job you supposedly loved? 2.) During the invasion, how could you just sit back and do nothing when it was evident we needed you? 3.) How do you expect our trust, when you’ve already broken so many eggshells? Morey Jules- Head of House for Ravenclaw, and Professor of Divination
- Hired by Fiona Ticloon
- Has a pet Ferret named Wednesday
Questions Circulating:1.) Who are you? 2.) Where did you come from? 3.) Why are professor’s allowed animals such as Ferrets, when technically we are only allowed animals such as owls, cats, toads? 4.) Is he really that oblivious? Aren’t Ravenclaws supposed to be smart and together? 5.) If Ticloon hired him when Raynor was in Azkaban…[no comment from this author on the prison part…yet]….was it a good idea to give Head of House to a new professor when there were old professors still available? 6.) Was former Head Mistress Ticloon nice when she came out of hiding to hire you? 7.) Where were you in January when the Deva had invaded? Weren’t all Professors supposed to be on campus at that time? Annemarie van Aller- Head of House of Slytherin, and Professor of Muggle Studies
- Hired by Fiona Ticloon
- Former Nun-in-Training
- Worked at a school for girl’s in Ireland
- Stickler on Respect issues
- Looks to questionable outlets to enhance magic
- Believes students to be under her.
[/li][/ul] Questions circulating:1.) How did you qualify for Head of House of Slytherin over others when there were other professors whom were not new, at Hogwarts? 2.) Are your views always so abstract, or is it only when your taking away house points? 3.) You met Fiona Ticloon? Now everything makes sense. 4.) Where were you in January when we needed a sacrifice? Leon Snow- Charms Professor
- Hired by Head Mistress Raynor
[/li][/ul] Questions Circulating:1.) Do you even know what happened to us in January? 2.) Does he even understand the concept of cruel and unusual punishment? 3.) When did charms class become Defense against the Dark Arts? Desideria Tapia- Professor of Potions
- Hired by Headmistress Raynor
- Unique ability to produce potions that control the minds and emotions of others like no other witch or wizard
- Has been using potions her whole witch career.
- No experience for teaching before Hogwarts
[/li][/ul] Questions Circulating:1.) Doesn’t she know controlling others is against the law? 2.) Does she have pets in all of her classes, or just the sixth years? 3.) Don’t teachers usually have some kind of teaching experience before they’re hired? Or is that only when it’s someone else hiring them other than Raynor? 4.) Where were you and your mind controlling potions when we could have used some Deva on our side fighting against Shaw? Alfonz Jedynak- Co-referree of Hogwarts Quidditch games
- Hired by Head Mistress Raynor
- Professional Quidditch Player
- ?
[/li][/ul] Questions circulating:1.) Didn’t he take a pay cut when deciding to work at Hogwarts? 2.) Where was he during the Deva invasion? 3.) Doesn’t his sister go to this school? 4.) If there’s no quidditch, what’s the need for a Co-ref? 5.) I hear his co-ref position was made up; is that true? 6.) Why isn’t he the Referee? Doesn’t co mean assistant? Who is Alfonz Jedynak, really? Tamis Raynor- Newly appointed Head Mistress after the Deva Invasion, and after being held in Azkaban away from her students.
- Hired all but two new Hogwarts staff at the school, and appointed all of them to the positions they now hold among the Head of Houses, and so on.
- Said to take favorites, especially among the house she was head of for the previous five years; Ravenclaw.
- Rumor has it, her time at Azkaban is not yet finished, nor are her days of taking favorites and leaving questions from the student body go unanswered.
One Final Question for All Professors, NEW AND OLD:What are you doing NOW for the students after what had happened to all of us in January when Hogwarts was infested by the hostile force, we all now can truly say we know as, the Deva?

Prophetic Prefects – Troubleshooting Prefects – Hufflepuff Written By: Celina Icelyn Jedynak Photographs taken by Felicity HjortAs in many aspects of life, we all as human beings will have to deal with one or more people that we find intolerable to deal with or just plain annoying. We will have to work with these people, get along with them, and sometimes our lives may even depend on working with them. In the line of Prefect, this is such a position where there are more than one, ergo, personality clashes are sometimes hard to avoid and compromises must be made. As I first entered into the empty classroom on the fifth floor where I deemed appropriate to interview Seanna Marcellus and Michael Rolen, the air was light and fresh. It was a lovely winter’s day, where snow was gently falling and blanketing the Hogwarts grounds just barely. I sat on a windowsill and waited for both to arrive with pure anticipation of what I was about to find. Previously, I knew both Prefects, but not as well personally, as I did from the whisperings of their conflictions that came from the walls around. Having no idea of what to expect, I sat, and waited. Seanna Marcellus was the first to enter and greet me with a smile upon her face, and what seemed to be a hopeful demeanor. A hopeful sense that everything would go well, as I had requested that both be interviewed at the same time. As this reporter figured, if any of the whisperings were true, then they’d show up while the two Prefects sat together and spoke at the same time what it was that a Prefect was supposed to be. We greeted each other, and as we did, Michael Rolen was next and last to show so that the interview could start and take place. We greeted each other as well, and he greeted his fellow co-Prefect and then both took a seat and we began. Starting off, I decided to ease my way into the questions that most of the student body wonders about these two Huffles. Through the tension, that I promise you could already be felt between the two, I asked each of them what it was to be a Prefect in their own words. Marcellus started us off by answering that a Prefect is someone that the Head Of House can rely on in good times or bad times. A Prefect is also someone that the whole of the House can rely on to be there when something goes wrong. They are people that are needed to be there to look out for the younger years in the house as well as be there if any of the housemates need someone to talk too, or if they are in trouble with something that a Prefect may be able to help with. Pleasing answer, I jotted notes down as the next thing that was done was very peculiar indeed. Rolen, whom seemed to be listening well enough, had taken out a jar of jelly and started eating it. Right there, at the desk in front of me, smacking his lips the entire time. Confused and bewildered, I said nothing and my expression was probably one of an Owl falling from the sky forgetting how to fly. Marcellus’ expression didn’t look any better. I then asked him the same question as I had already asked. After swallowing, he gave me this brief but to the point definition of what a Prefect was to him. Rolen stated that A Prefect is someone who has been set to guide and/or influence others. A sufficient answer of what a Prefect was between the two of them, even though the tension seemed to rise just a bit more because of the jelly. It was interesting at the least, and made me wonder just how much tension would be found at the end of the interview in general. Not to mention, a brief though about what kinds of examples these two did set for their houses, especially when working together. It was then obliged to go along with my instincts based on the happenings of the interview, not to mention the whispers about the Hufflepuff Prefects and continued my question as thus would imagine I’d do so. I next asked, starting with Michael, if he sometimes found it difficult to work with his co-Prefect when problems emerged within the Huffle house. He answered sweetly, but directly that he sometimes did find it difficult to work with Seanna but that it depended more on what the problem at hand was, for some situations were easier to manage than others, and most of the time it helped just in general when everyone worked together. Seanna was quick to add that she was unaware of any problems that the Hufflepuffs had any problems currently but if there were she stated that they could probably put their differences besides and aim for the best outcome for the house. Very well thought out answers from both of them, but something still didn’t have me convinced. Though, it could have been the empty jelly jar as well. Next question was simple and straightforward; As Prefects, what are the specific tasks that one in the position of Prefect would have to do? As the alternating questioning was working out, I stuck with it, turning to Seanna for her answer first. To Marcellus, the specific tasks include patrolling the school, keeping order, following what her Head of House, Professor Marvin Atwood, requests of her, and promoting house unity. Rolen agreed and then added on top of what she had already said that he also believed that a Prefects task list also included those helping out the people in the house, and other students in other houses if it’s necessary. Jotting down the answers as I did, it still struck me odd that this interview could be going so well based on the rumors. Maybe they hadn’t been true, and with this interview I set out to prove or disprove them, for the sake of the Hufflepuffs, of course. So, I had to ask one more curious question, after all, it wasn’t as if the jelly jar wasn’t the basis of a little tension. I could only imagine what could cause more if the jelly jar had caused already as much as it did. This time it was Michael’s turn to answer a question first, and he looked as prepared as always for the questions I had to ask. Professionally, is it hard to work with one another? I asked of them both, Michael answering first that sometimes, personal issues did get in the way, but he tried to put those aside when attending to duties. He also added that if they could be worked out by just talking with his co-prefect than that is what they tried to do. Seanna, quick to respond again, responded the same way she had with the problems within the house question, saying that she was unaware of problems between the two of them but if there were she agreed with Michael that they would talk it out. I probably gave a look of skepticism as I wrote my notes, and eyed the empty jelly jar. From that point on, I kept the interview straightforward, as I sensed that the tension was now more apart of my questions rather than anything the two Prefects were doing. At least with that, the interview progresses more smoothly. I went to Seanna with my next question, asking her what benefits she found with being a Prefect and she replied with the special usage of the Prefects bathroom, and of course watching over the younger years. Michael agreed on both parts, also adding that he could finally give something back to his house rather than just taking from it. When I asked both of them about something they’d change about their position, both replied with the answer of nothing. Both Hufflepuffs are grateful for their positions and are happy with the opportunity to give back to not only their house but the school. They understand fully where to turn to if they in fact need help, which would be their Head of House and/or other prefect, and are both willing to do so. As I left the interview that day, I felt that my job of uncovering a mystery had been complete. Neither of the Hufflepuff Prefects are incapable of doing their jobs, on the contrary, they’re some of the most normal people I have met. They have their problems, but who doesn’t, and on top of that they both are responsible enough to know how to take care of them when a problem arises. Trouble-shooting Prefects? More like Problem-solving Prefects in my opinion. So, here’s to Seanna Marcellus and Michael Rolen; our Hufflepuff Prefects, 2007-2008.

The Quidditch Pitch: The Quest for the Cup Written By: Andrew ThorntonPhotograph taken by: Andrew ThorntonThe battle for the Quidditch cup has never been fiercer- two teams poised to steal the crown away from Ravenclaw, while the Eagles fight to keep their winning streak intact. Currently at the top is Hufflepuff, who has won every one of their games this season. Under the leadership of Captain Krissy Fleming, the Badgers are experiencing the best season they've seen in a decade. Despite the controversy surrounding their latest win against Ravenclaw, the Hufflepuffs seem unstoppable. Close behind are the Mighty Lions, whose latest win against Slytherin made them strong contenders for the title. When asked how she thought this season was going, Captain Keagan Gerislynn replied, "I'm so proud of my Pride. They've really stepped it up this season. I don't foresee us backing off anytime soon. We're totally taking that cup!" At a close third are the Ravenclaws whose team troubles over the previous summer seemed to have followed them onto the pitch. Their latest bout of misfortune cost them the snitch against Hufflepuff, a match that grounded a number of players from both teams and landed Beater Drew Thornton in the Hospital Wing for a week. While Captain Arianna Shriver was unavailable for comment, first year and second-string player Jeremy Taylor told this reporter, "Quidditch isn't as fun as it was back home and I didn't like it much even then." No, Mr. Taylor, it's not much fun losing. And while Slytherin is out of the running again this year, Captain Charlie Jones was heard saying, "You listen here: Slytherin is going after that Cup. So help me Merlin, I'll breathe nothin' but qudditch before we get a jus'fied win, and the same goes for the rest of the team." How she plans to do this when the Snakes haven't won a game in over two years is unclear, but knowing Jones, she probably has something up her sleeve.

A Day In the Life Of... Charlie Jones Written By: Seanna MarcellusPhotograph taken by Felicity HjortWelcome to a day in Charlie Jones busy life. We started on common ground, down in the Dungeons area. After some confusion on both parts, the interview started off as normal as it could be. Charlie Jones is an outside girl, following this Slytherin around, we first made a trip to the Quidditch pitch, where she figures out practice times for the Slytherin Quidditch time and practice times for herself as well. That was one reason why Charlie gave up her Prefect badge for, she wanted to spend more time devoted to the sport of Quidditch After all, Quidditch is a great game to play and on the grapevine word has it that Hufflepuff is the team to beat this year, Slytherin is going to need plenty of practice.. but this reporter is getting off topic. On topic again! The next place you would notice Charlie is the Great Hall. After spending a liberal amount of time at the Quidditch pitch, we made our way to the Great Hall. According to Charlie, she's hungry all the time, which isn't that surprising when the girl spends half her time outside doing stuff. After having breakfast (and lunch) I trailed after Charlie and we made our way to the lake. This reporter must add here by now that she was getting slightly sunburned by spending a lot of time outside. Charlie explained that the lake would be the third place that someone would find. her at if they needed to. While at the lake, the Slytherin Quidditch Captain told me the other places one would find her at would be the common room, which is good for doing things like homework and sleep. One place you wouldn't catch her dead in, is the library. The library according to Charlie is incredibly lame. That's where The day of the life in Charlie ended. Outside at the lake. Charlie Jones, Slytherin Quidditch Captain and former prefect, is an outside girl. If you need to find her, just keep an eye out in the grounds... she's sure to pop up somewhere.

Aimless Garble What luck has been brought by the beginnings of Spring... By this we mean Four-Leaf Clovers. The belief of strong luck brought to by the finder of such wonders makes us all wonder, could good luck be that easy to stumble upon? Uncommon enough that without a bit of luck and a good eye one may not find the green plant standing in the field of three leaf clovers. We at Hogwarts' Happenings wanted to know from students: What is your standpoint on Four-Leaf Clovers?"If I were superstitious, a four leaf clover would bring me a lot of luck. Legend has it, each of leaf has a meaning. The first is hope, the second is faith, the third is love, and the final one is luck. Since they are so rare one considers themselves lucky if they find them. Clovers often represent the Irish. I myself feel that a four leaf clover is quite interesting. I wonder what causes one to occur. I guess it's just the luck of the Irish” -Willow Adams, Hufflepuff“I ain' Irish, therefore they ain' lucky” -Corey Faulkland, Gryffindor“Four leaf clovers? Aren't they supposed to be lucky or some stuff like that? Probably not as lucky as my blue base ball cap. Now that's lucky.” - Jax Chaput, Ravenclaw“Aye, I believe in their powers. They bring goo' luck to the finder an' ye don' have t' be Irish either.” -Brenton Douglas, Slytherin

Questions and Answers Answered By LaluPhotograph of Lalu1. Does Spring weather create complexion problems? - Every season can create complexion problems. You just need to be protected by the wraths of unusual weather problems. A good moisturizer cream always works wonders with any complexion problem.2. So, it's Spring, what kind of flower is romantic for the upcoming season?- Petunia or Snapdragon's are pretty romantic for spring for that someone special, or if you just wanted to jazz up your room. The flower that wins hands down for being the most romantic in Spring would be a Daisy. Guaranteed to put a smile on any face. Or a kiss.3. Will you pinch me if I don't where green?- Only if you wanted me to pinch you on the cheek. 4. I just received a new cat, it's a boy, what should I name it?-Archie? Barney Bailey? Bling Bling? Buttons? Cauldron? Chaos? Chase? Dash? Drako? Oh my goodness, the list is endless. Try and match the name with the personality of the cat:) But there are a few names to help you choose 5. Why does everyone have to think of love when it's spring? Is it just a natural animal instinct?-Love, is like you said, a natural instinct. Not only can it happen in spring, it can happen anytime. People probably think more of love in Spring, because everything is naturally blossoming. Don't give up on love, it can happen when you least expect it.6. How can I get food when I'm hungry? Should I just store it in my pockets before leaving dinner? -From the magic perspective? Try "accio" the food. But speaking from the muggle point of view, a quick trip to the kitchens just before you turn in for the night is always a good thing to do

Eye to Eye: The Third Eye’s Perspective on Life Predicted by: Celina Icelyn JedynakAries (Mach 21 – April 20)A new face presents itself to you this month and could turn out to be a very good and close friend. You both find that you have a lot in common, and from those commonalities you could share a unique bond of friendship with one another. Tread cautiously, however, for as great as this new friendship could be, this person could also turn out to be your worst enemy. Taurus (April 21 – May 21)Taurus, you feel as if the world is weighing down on your shoulders. You are worried about too much, and not taking enough time for yourself to just relax. It’s ok, and nothing is as bad as it may seem. You need to worry about less so that you can get more done, for worrying is wasting a lot of your needed energy and may in the end cause you to become ill. Breath, everything is ok and it will get better. Gemini (May 22 – June 21)This is a month with great healing powers for you, Gemini. You will not only find yourself healing from past wounds, but also you will find that you can heal others with your touch and friendship as well. Don’t waste your strength, however, and realize that there are only so many that you can truly help without just interfering in matters that you don’t belong. Cancer (June 22 – July 22)You are the winner of whatever you may be trying to overcome this month! You’re perseverance and determination prove to be your greatest strengths and get you any goal you are trying to accomplish. But be stealthy, for what you may be trying to get around while finding victory may not be in the best of intentions. Try to do something good with your diligence, and knock off being a troublemaker. Leo (July 23 – August 21)Know that you are not alone, Leo, in whatever you do. You have a strong support system that you rarely ever use but should. The closest to you are willing to help you in your time of need and all you need to do is extend a hand to them and ask for it. Not everyone can deal with what they go through on his or her own, and this is a month where you find that you need someone in your life to be there for you more than ever. It’s not weak to need others, but a sign of undying strength. Ask for help, and you will receive guidance. Virgo (August 22 – September 23)Last months hardships will only turn for the better this month, as you find that the end of some paths for your life only open new beginnings to others. Take the opportunities that come your way! They’re better for you and you will find much happiness because of them. Libra (September 24 – October 23)Oh, Libra…you’ve never found yourself in such an undesired predicament as you’ve found yourself this month. Traveling is not only seen in this month, but a whole upheaval of what you used to believe life was will not stand true any longer. It’s time to break out of your shell that you’ve formed around you and use this time to your advantage. Make best out of what this situation could be! Find those who are not only like yourself, but also are willing to provide their services to you. It’s not all that bad, and hey, you may make a friend or two in the end. Change is good, live with it, rather than fighting against it. Scorpio (October 24 – November 22)Luck comes your way early this month, Scorpio, when it comes to finding someone that you find yourself drawn to. You’ll find a new partner who needs a lot of TLC you find yourself willing to give. But watch out! This also goes for those of you who already find yourselves within a relationship. Be careful to choose your path wisely. Sagittarius (November 23 – December 22)A wall of miscommunication and misunderstandings within yourself and among your friends will cause a bit of unease this month as it comes down toward the end of the month. It’s only going to get harder if you don’t realize that you need to find the time to sit down and spend time on what is really important; the little things that are found within friendships, relationships, and life with others in general. Take the time to slow down and observe what’s going on around you. You may be surprise you what you find. Capricorn (December 23 – January 20)Lately you fell as though your being misunderstood or pushed off to the side. Pay no mind to it, for it’s not what you think. Your peers and superiors do care and are listening, but at the same time have their own lives they must deal with at this time. Your stubbornness has been blocking your vision of this, and for that reason you feel secluded and alone. Transform those feelings into sympathy and caring for others and do remember, the world revolves around the sun…and not you. Aquarius (January 21 – February 19)Spring has you by the reigns, and the season for love you’re your senses tingling. And then you find this person who seems almost too good to be true, and yet you still find yourself wanting to get to know them. You’re drawn to this individual, Aquarius, because they seem as eccentric and as adventurous as you find yourself to be. Be cautious as you near this person and let them in, they’re known for breaking the hearts of those who cannot keep up with them. Look before you leap, for if you leap too soon, you may find nothing but turmoil in the end. Pisces (February 20 – March 20)This month revives you in ways you never even thought possible. You have an ample amount of strength and happiness that you had feared that you lost. Whether this is manifested in a person or what have you, this newfound strength will give you reason for accomplishing great things, and should be used! Don’t let this new energy go to waste, for it’s up to you what you do with it, but it won’t last forever.

A Grim and Dawning Time As all here within the safety of our castle walls know, the return in January was a rather interesting one. Not many have experienced such horrors as that displayed to all when our castle was given entrance to a notorious organization that has slowly been on the rise. For a few years the Ministry believed an organization, named the “Elevens”, were responsible for little crimes and uprisings in the streets but more recently, the Ministry focus should be aimed towards another organization, one called by “Deva”. Our return in January began with the normal straddling in of students, groups and singular from the Hogwarts Express, sauntering in from Hogsmeade, making the return for the second term to our school. A requirement of attendance to a feast, began much like many others, students walked in, took their seat and waited for the appearance of our then Headmistress, Ticloon. However, there were factors none took into account, such as the odd display of decorations. As all sat patiently, waiting for the feast to begin, to fill rumbling stomachs, none could have predicted what was to occur next. The blasting open of the Great Doors, the sudden appearance of faceless figures throughout our hall, guarding and menacing as they stood over all, collecting wands, taking our powers from us. But the most surprising of all was the sudden appearance of one man, a former professor of Hogwarts, and one believed to be in cohorts with the Deva, Robert Shaw. Who could have known what was to come? Endless hours of waiting in merciless silence, heart-wrenching madness, and fear in numerous amounts spread throughout the Hall. This was just the beginning. After days and many negotiations, all fell apart at the hands of all who were there. Students, Deva, Professors. Students were released, but only a few. Others were kept hostage in the slowly-rising awkward situations, the uncomfortable arms of those we did know, and in the filth of mistrust. Who was to say you were not in on it? Who is to say I wasn't? Just who let them in? It is said the former Headmistress Ticloon was a part of the entrance, but do we know this for sure? Could it have been a student? Possibly a Professor or Staff Member? All we know for sure is our castle walls were penetrated by Deva members, and if Hogwarts experiences this kind of insane imposing nature, what is to say of the rest of the Wizarding world?
