Aurors Among Us?
Going to classes, dinner, out for a swim, we cannot seem to get away from them. Down every corridor, around every corner, behind every passageway, protectors scour the halls for something, anything, but what? These protectors are not like the armored suits that line the many walls of the castle, they are not like those who guard our common rooms, they are people as real as you and me.
Why are they milling about our school? I am sure most of you know of the recent events which occurred at the end of last term, what with all of the rumors flying about, who would not at least know of the basics? But those events were sorted out, were they not? And if they really were, why are we in need of the extra security? Is Hogwarts not safe enough that it is in need of more protection than can be provided alone? While events had taken place on grounds, and protection is a good thing to have in store, what about the protection actually being provided?
Parents and community members have had their say; they feel as though the protection is necessary, that the added number of people in our hallways are beneficial. But would they feel the same if they themselves were put into our situations? Being stopped in corridors to be questioned about our intentions of where we may be headed, being followed to classes, small interruptions in conversations with our friends. Would they be able to say the same as they do now if they were placed into our shoes?
While it is nice knowing we are being watched over, that we do have such help if we are in need, are they really that helpful, or do they provide more of a hindrance than actual help? Boarders do not seem to be watched as well as they should be, or else students like to spin tales of adventures they have not been on. Crossing into the forest, finding ways into Hogsmeade, where are our Aurors at these times? What protection are they providing and where if not to the students who seem to have crossed into areas that are restricted to students?

Stalked Staff: An Interview with A...Written by: Felicity HjortPhotograph above: Juan Marcos; taken by Arianna Shriver-KailasLate at night, we've all had to make that climb, had to ascend those stairs; those that lead to the Astronomy Tower. Maybe not all of us have had to recently, but at some point we all have had to. Recently, some may have noticed, others not, there has been a newer addition, and I am not speaking solely of the darkened walls, the posters, the sudden organization. No, I am speaking of the professor himself. Professor Juan Marcos, a man of few words but of much interesting information. After a lovely meeting, in which he alloted myself and Celina Jedynak to plague him with our questions, we learned much about who our professor really is. Allowing me to ask many questions, he answered them to the best of his ability. To begin with, we spoke to him about his history. An explorer from Spain, a wondrous place with amazing culture, he went abroad to discover what he could. Unfortunately, it seemed the young man's exploration turned sour. As anyone who has attended his class has learned, our very own professor has a surprising fact about him. Now, before you head to the library, I'd like to let you all know, I've already investigated the fact myself and have found my own truth. After a thorough research and many nights, I have taken all books I find to be of no use on the matter. So if you decide to conduct your own research, all information you discover will be the truth of what I have discovered, facts. No, you will not find muggle beliefs, nor will you find fantasy stories. You will discover only the hard facts about Vampires as I learned from our professor. He relayed the history, the truth, about Vampires. I am encouraging you to make a stop into the library to read through such truths, to find exactly what it is you may have wanted to know since learning about our new Professor. I asked whether Professor Marcos had thought about the controversies likely to erupt after ourselves, our parents, and others learned of his position gained at Hogwarts, he replied “of course.” Aren't we all glad we have a professor who thinks? The Astronomy professor continued answering with the ending of “irresponsible if hadn't?” Wanting to know a bit more about his abilities on his subject, we asked where he had learned about Astronomy. The reply we received was a welcomed bit of information. He mentioned that he had “studied [the] subject on [his] own in various libraries.” Unfortunately, we were unable to question which libraries, although he did learn that he once had a mentor who taught him. He is now able to pass what he learned onto others, and possibly one day see his own teachings be passed on. Our last question was whether Professor Marcos believed he could contribute something no other Professor is able to. Many like to believe when they enter into the lives of others, they can give something to said person/people that no other would ever be able to. The answer we gained was: “a solid dose of reality.” There we have it. While many may believe him to be supernatural, inhumane, unbelievable, this is what we've learned. I believe it to be the truth. Professor Marcos is a man, burned with a scar from our world, a man of few words, but of much deeper meaning. Get to know him, about him, be intrigued, be interested, be in class.

Hello's With Our Aussie Head Girl: Krissy FlemingWritten By: Matty WentworthPhotograph above: Krissy Fleming; taken by Arianna Shriver-KailasMost of us know of Krissy Fleming, the bubbly, bouncing, newly appointed Head Girl. Though how well do we really know her? Unlike the majority of people in the castle, this girl is from Australia. Krissy described it to me as “Extremely hot, there’s also allot of beaches.” She also stated “The animals are the other difference, you don't see Kangaroo's around here where as in Australia there were tons of them. Not really where I live but in the paddocks in places you can see them.” Just imagine it, Kangaroo’s jumping around, beaches within a 5 minutes’ walk. It would be simply amazing to live in such a place. The next set of answers I received from Krissy reflected on her recent role of Head girl. When she first started at Hogwarts, she never even expected to become Head girl. Apparently, she was considered to be quite the troublemaker, never living a dull moment in those years. Once the time grew closer, Krissy still did not expect to get Head girl. The Seventh year even stated; “I was sure there were better candidates in my year. So I didn't really think about it too much. Kinda just went with the flow.” Honest words of a worthy role model. Fleming’s reaction to this event however was ecstatic. She said she was sure to have “made the people in Canada hear her squeal” when she opened her Hogwarts letter to find the shinny badge within. She also explained of how over-the-moon she felt, apparently not being able to sit still for the next week, and I think we can see why. In most people’s cases, many could relate to how Krissy felt, excited and maybe a bit unexpected to be given such a position. Her father said it was a wonderful thing for Krissy; he was extremely happy for her and proud of his daughter. Now getting onto Krissy’s personality and schooling side of life, she had a suggestion for an improvement she had in mind. “I reckon all the staircases should react like the ones to the girl’s dorm. Turn into slippery dips whenever a boy walks on them. It'd be so much fun.” What an example of her personality we have there. Can all you boys just imagine trying to get to your classes the stairs falling under you feet? Such an interesting idea! Let’s see what Krissy does about that, maybe the boy’s will have to fly to their classes? Krissy then explained the serious side to her job, it’s not all fun and games at Hogwarts. She now is responsible for a lot more stuff and she is now in a position to give orders to tell the Prefects what to do. Fleming also now is in charge to keep an eye on not just her own house (Hufflepuff) but also the whole school for its well-being. Finally, we come to the future point of Krissy’s place in life. At the end of my fascinating interview with her, we managed to uncover a bit of what she wanted to do in her long life. For a period of her life, the girl stated that she wanted to travel; there are still many places she hasn’t seen yet. “I want to become a Vet. I want to work with animals and help them.” Inspiring words from such a girl with no selfishness and a warm hearted personality. Krissy wants to hopefully become involved with both magical and muggle vet jobs for the sake of helping both kinds of critters. As so that’s all we could hear of from Krissy. Her aspect on her home, school life and a snippet on her life plans. I do hope you enjoyed it.

A Day In The Life Of: Nicolae TorqueWritten By: Seanna MarcellusPhotograph above: Nicolae Torque; taken by Arianna Shriver-KailasNicolae Torque, or Nic, and please don't call him Nico because he absolutely hates it, is a popular Slytherin sixth year. After spending some time with this Slytherin, I find there is more to him than meets the eye. BUT considering this article is supposed to be where he goes when he is not is class, those bits I will leave out and give you the run down of where Nic hangs out when not in classes. The most popular place Nic hangs out most of the time is at Hogwarts courtyard, or more specifically, the make-shift basketball court, where you can find him dribbling basketballs to the basket. When magic class is not in, you can find Nic at the Hog's Head in Hogsmeade and also at Diagon Alley just hanging and having a blast with his boys. This reporter can also tell you that sometimes Nic even hangs out at the most exclusive dance club in Knockturn Alley: Wicked Times.

Aimless Garble
Have you ever had a moment where you had to step back and ask yourself, was that enough? Enough basil, enough information, enough hugs, enough dirt, enough make-up, enough butter beer, enough effort?
Well, we at Hogwarts' Happenings wanted to know from students, 'How do you know when enough is enough?' In any situation, at anytime, here were the answers we received...
“Enough is enough it's never enough. Unless it's something harmful to yourself and even then it's sometimes never enough.” -Nicolae Torque, Slytherin
“When things get so hard for you, or if you've had enough...it what I think...it could be different, but that's my opinion.” -Cameron Chambers, Gryffindor
“When every action has a bad reaction, and when every fault has a consequence.” -Matty Wentworth, Hufflepuff
“If you're going for relationship...stuff...I dunno...If he's always pressuring you to do stuff you're not comfortable with and you've already asked him to stop, I might give him only one more chance before he's gone.” -Arianna Shriver-Kailas, Ravenclaw
“Well, if you take as how much is enough when you're teasing I would have to say enough is enough when Trixi gets that evil glint in her eyes and launches herself right at you knocking you off of your chair. Once she goes ballistic I think you could say she had had enough.” -Braxton Spicer, Ravenclaw
“When nothing seems to be going right and nothing you say ever seems to be the right thing to say, plus when the fact that you try your hardest to make everything right, but in the end, it all blows up in your face and you get blamed for everything.” -Seanna Marcellus, Hufflepuff

Questions and Answers Answered by: Alex and Alvin
Well folks, you asked them, we found Alex and Alvin to answer them. Your questions, their advice; send your inquires in and we'll get them answered.
Q: How do you know if it's a crush? -Torn Between
A: Do you think about this person 24/7? Do you daydream about being with them? You're either crushing or bordering obsession. -Alex
It really depends on how you two act around each other, how do they make you feel in comparison to other people? If you feel like you would want to be closer to this person, most likely it's a crush. -Alvin
Q: My mum asked me about my professors in a letter she sent me recently. I'm a muggle-born and I don't know how to tell her about the new Astronomy professor without frightening her. -Starless Night
A: First off, send your mum a copy of An Undead Life by Maritus Borscht, an excellent autobiography detailing the life of Maritus himself. In it he explains about the 'code' vampires live by. The most important of this code is that they must not feed on or turn a human if he/she is not 'of age.' In other words, one has to be fully grown into man/womanhood. You are completely safe. Not only because of the code, but also because Deputy Raynor would kick the man's behind should anything happen to a student. You are far more likely to be strangled by her than to become Marcos' next meal. -Alex
Just tell her that despite the fact that he's a vampire, he is a staff member as well. The Professor isn't going to do anything that any other normal Professor is going to do, despite the way he looks. -Alvin
Q: So, I like this girl and I'm pretty sure she likes me, but how do I tell her how I feel without scaring her off? -Just the Friend
A: Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, walk up to her and pull her into a passionate kiss. Even if she likes you, she may think you'll want to rush things more quickly than she's ready for. If she doesn't...well, you're screwed. Instead, ask her on a date. Yes, I said it. Make it something fun that doesn't require too much time gazing into each other's eyes. Remember, a date doesn't have to lead to anything. It's just a way to test the waters. If she says yes, I think you're good to go. If she says no, well...I guess you'll know your answer. -Alex
First of all you should tell her how much you like her, just as a friend at first, and explain how much you love spending time with her. Adding a complement might determine if she feels the same way, by how she reacts. When you do tell her you like her allot, make sure you do it with ease and try and make it comfortable to say, this will show her how much you care. -Alvin
Q: Is it wrong to skip out on a class because someone you are avoiding is also in the class? -Wandering About
A: Yes -Alex
Whether it be a teacher or student, you shouldn't have to skip a class to feel comfortable. If it's an issue that may cause an argument in class, take this up with your Professor or HOH. If a personal issue is causing this feeling, just take a seat away from the person and keep your mind on the work. However if you can't bring yourself to go, you should talk about this issue with someone you trust, like a friend, older student your HOH or a Professor you trust. -Alvin
Q: How do I tell my parents I don't want a new set of dress robes? -Liking the Look
A: As long as your current robes still fit and aren't falling apart, I see no reason why they should insist on new ones. Remind them that you're saving them money by keeping your old ones. -Alex
If I were in your shoes (or robes for this matter) I would just explain why you don't want new ones. Maybe send them in a picture of how good you look in your robes. Also, press the fact that they shouldn't waste their money on new robes if you don't need nor want them. -Alvin
Q: If I have the brains, and he has the brains, why does he look at the one with the beauty? -Beast-less
A: Some guys are just stupid that way. You can try to get his attention, but if beauty is all he wants, move on. You'll find a better guy out there. One who will appreciate your brains and personality. -Alex
If you say that he has the brains, and so do you, then he mightn't be all you think. This boy could appear to be very smart and such, and you have the brains to realize he is like you, maybe even you are crushing on him, but things might be different. Facts are, this boy may just be interested in looks and not brains. You should find yourself a boy thats interested in your, not for your brains or looks, just be yourself! -Alvin

Gossip GobletHeard and Retold by: Louise Jackson and Gabby PicklerSlytherin Nadia Ivanova has somehow formed an everlasting crush for none other than the Ravenclaw first year known as Ryan Scoobee. She has been seen sending him puppy dog eyes while standing at the lake and staring at the back of his head in all her classes. She has been known to take a seat at the back just so she can watch him wherever he sits. However, the young snake has no intention of telling the boy about her stalkerish ways but plans on following him around for the rest of time. None yet know her full intentions. Hufflepuff wanna-be Nicolae Torque has been seen around the castle wearing a pair of pink bunny rabbit slippers. He call's them Fluffy and Mittens and can be seen talking to them and on rare occasions trying to feed them carrots. He's been heard saying to them 'dis is da best carrot y'all eva taste' Ravenclaw Prefect Drew Thornton - Cutlery thief? Drew can't walk into a room without resisting the urge to sneak those shiney silver instruments into his pockets to keep in his collection. Drew just has something about cutlery; he can't keep his hands off it. No matter where he goes he always seems to steal the knives, forks and spoons. He seems to favour the spoons as he has been spotted petting them and giving them names whilst in the boys dormitories when he thinks no-one is around. His obsession (although they don't know who's behind it) drives the rest of the Ravenclaw's batty because at meal time they can never work out where the cutlery has all gone, or why Drew's jumper is looking very large all of a sudden... So there we have it Raven's, Drew's behind it. Go get him. Scientific tests has proven that Slytherin third year, Ty Calister, is actually a new breed of frog. It is said that his mother had some form of relations with a frog which she had turned into a man. Hence creating Ty; half man, half frog. Can this traumatized boy-frog manage to fit in with regular society? Gryffindor Prefect, Keagan Gerislynn, has been living at Hogwarts for the past few years and all that time has secretely been hiding her other personality. Sources has discovered that Keagan is none other than the death metal rock goddess, Beautiful Scars, who has been releasing numerous records. So that's what she's been doing in the prefects lounge... This folks also means that Keagan, or should I say Miss Scars, also has a tattoo of a unicorn with a dagger in it's heart, however its not for this reporter to disclose where It has been discovered that Hannah Astley has secretly formed an undying love obsession with fellow Ravenclaw first year Braxton Spicer. Hannah has been seen drooling over pictures of the boy when she believes no-one is watching, where or how she got the photo's is anyones guess, although this reporter guesses she took them during her many times of following after him in the corridor's without his knowledge. Hannah is even alleged to have tried to gain access to the Ravenclaw boys dorm just to visit young Spicer. She is also quoted as saying “I will get in there you wait and see”. Ravenclaw Prefect Drew Thornton has applied extra security measures to keep the female Raven out of the boys dormitory. Young Braxton's response to this love interest is one of interest and boyish excitement. He has been seen making sure his hair is neat and tidy before entering his classes with the girl. The two have also been seen making out in the towers near the owlery. When the two will let this little love affair come out is beyond anyones knowledge. Recently, the library has been filled with a thick cloud of smoke late at night. Could the odd addition of an occasional gillyweed plant have anything to do with this? Only one person would know how to answer and put a stop to these rumors, unfortunately, the librarian has been avoiding questioning. Many have heard of the tale 'Through the Looking Glass' or 'Alice and Wonderland', but what does this have to do with Hogwarts you may ask? Well, there is an uncanny resemblance of Professor Marvin Atwood to the Mad Hatter, no? Hufflepuff Prefect Michael Rolen, has oft been found roaming about the third floor corridor in the early hours of morn', in seach of his friend, Alan the Alligator. Just where did he come from? That we do not know. Is he real or invisible? That has yet to be discovered. As for the matter of where he came from, just where did he go?

Eye to Eye: The Third Eye’s Perspective on Life Forecasted by: Celina Jedynak
Scorpio (October 24 – November 22) Life is something that isn’t always the most pleasant experience, however, what you’re beginning to realize is that you wouldn’t have it any other way. Even with all of life’s ups and downs, you are the one who seems to come out on top. Don’t worry, whatever you are going through now, will blow over and you will benefit from the experience.
Sagittarius (November 23 – December 22) This will be an amazing month for finding someone that you can connect with more than you ever thought was possible. It will probably be someone you never expected would even notice you. Don’t lose them, for they are the outlet you need to become the person you were meant to be.
Capricorn (December 23 – January 20) Pay attention! Lately it seems as if no one is on your side, no one cares, or no one even notices that you exist. It’s because you are not looking at those who do notice you. You are trying to better yourself in ways that are too much, and even if you don’t realize it, the people who you really need are around you. They will catch you when you fall. These are your true friends.
Aquarius (January 21 – February 19) Oh, Aquarius. Your flaunting ways are going to get you into some trouble if you’re not careful. Not everyone wants to hear your story on how great you are. They already know it…you’ve told them a million times,. Be yourself. Those you are trying to impress are not worth it, because those who you already impress already know your stories…they were right there with you when it happened.
Pisces (February 20 – March 20) Overworking yourself has always been a problem for you, my dear Pisces. This is because you don’t know how to work with the time you have. It’s time to relax a bit and chill out. If you do, illness could wreak havoc on your already hectic life. You need a break, so take it!
Aries (Mach 21 – April 20) Recently you have been finding those that you connect with but wonder whether or not they are actually worth all the suffering they may be putting you through. They are, don’t look away from them, for they are the one’s who will truly be there when you need help.
Taurus (April 21 – May 21) You run head first into every thing, and this month it’s bound to get you into a world of trouble. Back off and think about what you are going to do before actually doing it. It only takes a few extra seconds to debate whether or not something is going to bite you right in butt in the end.
Gemini (May 22 – June 21) Oh, the beautiful twins. You don’t realize how true that statement is this month. You live two lives and you’re finding it hard to juggle them like you used to. This month, people are going to start finding out about your other lives if you’re not careful. The two lives are not meant to mix. Tread cautiously; the ice is thin.
Cancer (June 22 – July 22) Virtue attracts virtue. The more you act virtuous and willing to help others, they will do the same for you. It’s not as easy as it sounds, however. This month some will be willing and looking for how much they can push you to see how much it takes for your natural kind being to collapse. Whether this is directly or indirectly, you must first distinguish between the two. Friendships could be lost if you are not careful. But don’t stop being who you are in the process.
Leo (July 23 – August 21) Courageous Leo, look around you. Someone you love is in need of your help and you are ignoring him or her. This month your pride will could your vision. Do be open to those around you, for they are the ones that will help you out of your downward spiral of self-satisfaction. Having a good self-esteem is one thing, but doing anything that may hurt another to boost it? That is what will determine if you’ve taken it to far.
Virgo (August 22 – September 23) Nothing is as lost as you feel. Someone is willing to help you as you read this and it’s only a matter of time before you recognize this. When you do, however, it is likely that you may find more than just a friend within this person. Don’t forget to look deeply though, because there are those who are also looking to use you. You will be able to distinguish the two types of people.
Libra (September 24 – October 23) The scales weigh down on you this much dear Libra as you are stuck in a situation without what looks like any escape. There is an escape however, and you will find the way. You are a very self-sufficient person, and those who try to help will only hinder the process. This isn’t saying that you shouldn’t acknowledge their help, however, you may want to take it as a grain of salt. It won’t mean much until the end, by then, it will be too late.

Mysterious Babble Written by: Saki
Have you ever looked at a picture of yourself and seen a stranger in the background? It makes you wonder how many strangers have pictures of you. What moment was it for them? Was it the moment when their dreams came true, or it was it a moment where everything they thought they knew vanished? We've all been captured, eternally immobilized in photos, be it the ones we took, or ones someone else took. We have those moments saved so we can look back on them and either smile, or try to learn from it. But really, all they are, are just moments. A moment passes so quickly that we don't even realize we've just lost it. Unless we take a picture. And in those pictures, we'll have that moment forever.
