The Mysteriousness of the Castle Walls
All who walk among the corridors, alone or in silence, know of what I speak. The walls have ears, hold secrets that have been told years before you or I were born. So much information, so many untold stories, unfinished sentences. I am not speaking of the portraits, the armour, no, I am speaking of everyday words passed between friends, rivals, professors and students. Sometimes, when walking down the corridor, it's almost as though, you can hear the wall bursting to tell, to let you in on joke, after all, the walls didn't promise to keep it all a secret.
What kinds of secrets does our castle hold? It holds the mystery of what happened years before with Harry Potter, it knows the beginnings of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, it knows what has most recently graced our presence. What made our Deputy Headmistress take off in storm of the Ministry, as many of you, I assume, have read of. Only days ago, Professor Raynor supposedly took off to the Ministry, was removed, and now a trial will be taking place? A trial for what?
Our walls speak, but only to those who will listen. The walls, I am sure, know of the reasons, the why and what. But what of us, students who are clueless, in need of direction from the Professor? It is told classes will resume as usual, Hogwarts will continue on its merry way, that once break is over, we will move on with our schooling lives. But what of our beloved Professor?
If the walls of our castle could talk, what do you think they'd be saying? Would they be giving us answers, would they be taunting us, would they really even know?
Would the walls be able to tell us of the curious absences of our Headmistress? What about Professor Ticloon, where is she? Not present at the Return Feast, nor at the Halloween Dance, is it that she doesn't care much for social gatherings? Perhaps, with Professor Raynor's absence over the break, we will be greeted with that of the Headmistress'. However, that brings into question, will these trials take place only over break or will they continue into the school year, and if yes, who will be teaching us Defense Against the Dark Arts? Will there be another, newer edition to the Hogwarts staff? With all the recent changes that have taken place as of late, what really is one more?
Perhaps, if the walls could talk, they'd give us the answers to the questions we have yet to ask.

Prophetic Prefects – Admirable Prefects – Ravenclaw Written By: Celina Icelyn Jedynak Photographs Above: Hiro McVeil and Andrew Thornton; Taken By: Arianna Shriver-Kailas They proudly wear their badges on their robes, not as a sign of superiority, but as a sign of guidance. These are the people you can turn to in your need. The ones who are there to help you with whatever you may find yourself at a loss with. And if they themselves cannot help you, they can point you somewhere that you will be able to find the help that you may need. Who are these people? They are the Prefects of the houses, and this column is the: Prophetic Prefect: Ravenclaw Edition: Admirable Prefects
In their eyes, they were two of the least likely candidates for the position of Prefect in their house. Both are two people, who against all odds placed against them, have come out on top. Hiro McVeil was the first out of the two now Prefects in the Ravenclaw house to receive his badge. When asking him how he felt when he had received it, he spoke of the feeling of confusion and suspicion that in fact the badge was a fake. He had believed at the time, the he could not have obtained the position for various reasons, and thought that his best mate, now fellow Prefect, Andrew Thornton, had in fact made the badge and sent it to him. When finally realizing the badge was real, however, like many he was surprised and honored. Andrew Thornton was the same way, unsure of what to make of his new achievement. He too, thought that he was not qualified enough for the position and could give a million reasons why the selection could have been done better. This reporter, however, disagrees. The facts speak for themselves and when interviewing the two Prefects from the Ravenclaw house, I was surprised to see how well they did. According to McVeil and Thornton, a Prefect is one who is the first line of defenses for a house, someone who is there for their house mates no matter what the need may be of them. They are those that are there to go to no matter the problem, and they, by description and job duties, have the utmost priority to help those in need. This is not limited for only their house, however, but because there are Prefects in every house, they are mostly there to serve their own. This is admirable in so many ways, but the one way this reporter found most admirable was that beyond all of this they are still their own person. Both boys of the Ravenclaw house have lives but are willing to put aside most of their time for others when the need is there. This ranges from doing anything from talking, to literally taking someone to the hospital wing if need be. When the Prefects are not busy doing stuff for the house, they do have some free time, which is usually taken up by Quidditch, school, homework, and even hanging out with their own friends. Both McVeil and Thornton are beaters for the Ravenclaw team and are excellent at it. When asked how they both accomplish such feats of time management, they both responded that with all that needs to be done, they don’t really have time for anything else so their schedules are pretty much filled. However, they still make some time for a little bit of fun, once and a while. Since Hiro McVeil’s transfer to Hogwarts in the second year, both he and Andrew Thornton have been inseparable and great friends. Nothing slows either one of them down, and with the many difficulties they have both been through, McVeil’s admirable determination to succeed no matter the obstacle he faces and Thornton’s incredible worldly knowledge he has gather from his experiences, they bring to the Prefect table a whole new aspect and definition of what a Prefect should be. In this reporter’s eyes, these, as well as the many other Prefects at Hogwarts, are two fine examples of admirable Prefects. They are, the Prefects Hiro McVeil and Andrew Thornton of the Ravenclaw House.

The Quidditch Pitch: Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw Written By: Adrian Lampard
The Hogwarts Quidditch fans, myself included, were all ready for a new season when we took our seats in the stadium. Gryffindor, captained by veteran Keagan Gerislynn had a fairly mixed squad this year, with experienced players such as Corey Faulkand, Deryn Morgan, and Verina Alvarez. Rookies include Chasers Felicity Hjort and Will Kennedy, along with Beater David Young.
Ravenclaw’s team also has a good balance between eager grasshoppers and seasoned sophomores. The Defensive Duo of Drew Thornton and Hiro Mcveil return to the bats, while Jack Roarbitz is back as a Chaser. Seeker Arianna Shriver-Kailas has succeeded Allegra Thornton as Captain, and this game is her chance to prove she is worthy to fill Ms. Thornton’s boots. Fourth Years Miranda Shae and Oliver West are new Chasers, with third year Jax Chaput defending the hoops.
The weather was wild as the game began, going from raining sheets to a light drizzle, topleasant sunshine, and back again. Referee Ryder Hailey released the balls, and the Quidditch season had officially begun. Hjort showed why she was on the team right away, grabbing the Quaffle off the toss and making a beeline for Team Blue’s goals. Vet Beater Thornton was clearly in top form, however; stopping the Lion dead in her tracks with a well placed Bludger.
Oliver West recovered the dropped ball for his team, turning the tables on Gryffindor with support from Jack Roarbitz. Although they looked as if they were going all the way, David Young managed to send a Bludger in the direction of the advancing Chasers. West threw a desperate pass to Roarbitz, and tried to draw the Bludger away, a clever maneuver on his part.
Unfortunately for the Ravens, Deryn Morgan intercepted the ill-thrown Quaffle, shooting up the pitch with deadly speed. Jax Chaput made a spectacular save on the play, but received an elbow in the face and a bloody nose from Morgan. Although a penalty was given by Hailey, Chaput seemed dissatisfied. After a few words from her Captain, the new Keeper got back in the game. Although the score was nil-nil, the Ravens had the advantage. With good performances already from their new players, they looked to be gaining the upper hand on the Lions. Gryffindor seemed more confident and relaxed, however, so a win for the Lions was still on the table.

Students of the Corridor: Jeremy TaylorWritten By: Andrew ThorntonPhotograph Above: Jeremy Taylor; Taken By: Arianna Shriver-KailasThere's a new crop of first years in the hallway, but how many of us have actually gotten to know them? One of the harder first years to get to know is Jeremy Taylor of Ravenclaw, whose quiet manner sometimes gets mistaken for aloofness. In actuality, he's a great guy to get to know. Jeremy was born in Los Angeles, California and has recently moved to London in order to attend school at Hogwarts. He has one sister who is seven years younger and Jeremy says of her "Thank god I'll be gone when she starts here." Both of his parents work in the medical profession, his mother just recently being hired at Saint Mungos. In his free time, Jeremy likes swimming and building things. He is a strong flier and recently got a position as an alternate on the Ravenclaw house team. He also enjoys hanging out with his friends, Ryan, Braxton, and Hannah. His favorite color is orange but he says, "I'm starting to get used to all the blue stuff around here." He misses the warm weather back home, but says it's kind of neat having the snow around too. This reporter sees great things in this little Ravenclaw's future. Make sure you take the time to say hello when you pass him in the hallway!

Aimless Garble
I'm sure many have heard of the sock monster, the one that randomly appears and takes our socks so we no longer have matching pairs? But even if not, it doesn't matter as the sock monster has nothing to do with this particular sock conversation. Have you ever sat down in the morning and had to ask yourself, did I put that sock on the right foot? Does it belong on the left foot or the right?
We at Hogwarts' Happenings wanted to know from students Do you always wear your left sock on the right foot?' Twilight, Evening, Midnight, whichever time you dress your feet, here were the answers we received...
“Excuse me? (when asked the question again) Sock's don't have certain feet to go on. They are made to fit both feet... There is no such thing as a left sock. Do you mean shoe? Because if thats the case I have never, nor will I ever wear my shoe's on the wrong feet. Thats just plain silly...” -Sarsha Worthington-Smythe, Hufflepuff
"Well, I guess either which-way you mean, I really don't know. Can you really tell socks apart? Is there a left sock or right sock? If there's a left sock that differs from the right one, I probably wear it on the right foot one day...and, well, on the right foot another day. Get it?" -Keagan Gerislynn, Gryffindor
“Socks?” -Andrew Thornton, Ravenclaw
“Only when my left foot has disputes with the left sock.” -Charlie Jones, Slytherin
“No, I wear my left sock on my left foot.” -Seanna Marcellus, Hufflepuff
“I prefer to alternate so the toes in the socks don't get worn out quite so quickly.” -Felicity Hjort, Gryffindor
“No I tend to wear two left or two right socks most of the time.” -Leto Gryphon, Slytherin

Questions and AnswersAnswered by: Alex and AlvinWell folks, you asked them, we found Alex and Alvin to answer them. Your questions, their advice; send your inquires in and we'll get them answered. Photographs Above: Alex and Alvin; Taken By Arianna Shriver-Kailas Q: What is the point of a Yule Ball? -The Dancing LogA: What is the point of a Yule Ball? Supposedly so we can dance. But really, it's just another excuse to get together and socialize with the friends we already have or to ignore them all together and dance away the night with our recent crush. -Alex Although I'm not 100% sure on this answer, to me the Yule Balls is about celebration and bringing people together. To have lovely food, dancing, a band and drinks is like a big, formal party that everyone can enjoy. -Alvin Q: Why is Transfiguration such a hard subject? -Transforming RocksA: Why is Transfiguration such a hard subject? It's not. You're just not apt in it. You have two choices here: try harder, or forget about it and focus only on what you're good at. -Alex To me, Transfiguration is hard because you need to focus your mind to a great extent. Clear your thoughts, ease your breathing and simply corner your mind to what you're trying to transform. With practice you will get even better with pin-pointing your mind. -Alvin Q: How do I give advice when I'm not sure of the answer myself? -A Failure of Giving HelpA: That's what I'm here for. - Alex Be honest, and say what you can feel inside you. If you really have no idea what to say, then admit to that, there's nothing wrong with not knowing the answer to everything. -Alvin Q: What is a friend? -Curious of the Fine-LineA: A friend sticks with you through good times, and bad. They love you for who you are and have your back when you go up against the world. That's not to say friends don't have problems between themselves....But the good ones are always worth fighting for. No matter how many times you have to do it. -Alex A friend is someone whom you trust, have things in common with, but most of all love to have a connection to them. You can tell them your secrets and feel safe that they won't spill them. You can poor your heart out to them and know that they will be there to help you, and you can always trust them to have fun with you. -Alvin Q: I don't want to go home for break, but my mum is threatening to take me out of Hogwarts for good if I don't, what should I do? -Breaking Grounding RulesA: Go home. Then when she's not looking, run away and come back. -Alex There is really two things you can do. 1) Go home and face your mum for the break. 2) Write her a letter explaining why you don't want to come home. You're not in a very good situation, but if you word/deal with things in the right way you'll be fine. -Alvin Q: So, I really like this girl and I want to do something special for her for Christmas, but I don't know what. I wanted to get her something, but I know she won't accept a boughten gift, but I'm not the craftsy type either. So, I was thinking about doing something rather than getting her something, but what? -Snow FallenA: Even if you can't cook, there's always PB&J. -Alex To touch her heart, you need to find out what types of things she will like. If you really know her, then whether you take her to the movies, out for a picnic, heck go for a trip out in the city, if it means something to her, then she'll like it. Get in touch with her sweet side and compliment your activities with something that relates to her true personality. -Alvin Q: My owl has been acting strange lately, should I get her checked-out? -Misunderstanding of Feathery CreaturesA: If she can talk, ask her yourself. If not, talk to Professor Davenport. -Alex If you're concerned about your owl, then yes. She could have fallen ill, although might have just eaten a bad bug. Don't get too worried, our vets or nurses can most likely handle it. -Alvin

Gossip GobletHeard and Retold By: Louise Jackson and Gabby PicklerFyona Richards is a Slytherin second year who thinks she can control ducks. Thats right. Ducks. When she spots a crowd of them coming she believes they are doing her bidding, coming to her call. She sits and talks to them hoping they'll do as she commands. She has been seen chasing ducks around yelling 'quack'. It seems this Slytherin is a few feathers short of a pillow. Seanna Marcellus is hiding behind a magical duck. It seems this Hufflepuff Prefect actually can't defend herself which is why she wanders the hallways with a magical duck. If anyone or anything tries to harm the Prefect, the duck puts up a protective shield. This is because the Prefect can't do magic and just pretends that she can. Her wand isn't even actually a wand just a stick broken off of a tree. She's been pretending to be a witch for so long even though she's really got absolutely no magical ability. Perhaps Hufflepuff needs to choose their Prefects more carefully... Or perhaps thats the best talent Hufflepuff actually has... Ravenclaw, Jax Chaput is terrified of bats. It is believed it leads from a string of nightmares all about the Astronomy Professor, Vampire Juan Marcos. It seems the girl now believes he is everywhere. She has been spied running around in the dungeons waving her hands over her head while being chased by so called 'bats' which nobody else can see. She was heard yelling "Nooo, Professor Marcos. Nooooo.... I don't want to be eaten..." Slytherin Quidditch Captain Charlie Jones has devised a new 'team tactic' for the Slytherin Quidditch team for next game. It seems the Slytherin Captain has instructed all of her players to arrive down at the Quidditch pitch in their birthday bests. Quidditch robes forgotten and undergarments dismissed, the team is to play the game of Quidditch completely naked. It seems Charlie believes that the opposing team will be so distracted by the sexy Slytherin bodies that they won't be able to concentrate on the game... Other sources have been heard suggesting that the other teams may just be too busy being sick... Gryffindor boys have been complaining as of late as noses have had to be pegged and beds guarded from the notorious Jethro Stevens. This lone first year seems to had an extremely bad bed wetting problem. The smell that all the boys wake up to every morning is none too pleasant a one, in fact, the smell is so bad even the House Elves have been seen wearing peg's on their noses as they change the boy's yellow stained sheets. It seems that young Braxton Spicer, Ravenclaw first year, arrived at the school dance wearing, not a costume, but actually his true face. The ugly green goblin look which he withheld for the night was, in fact, how he truly looks and usually he is just walking around in an extremely tight human suit. It seems this first year is downright ugly. Not to mention... green. He was heard saying on the night 'Its not easy being green!' In a new change of events since the previous paper went out it seems Gryffindor Prefect Keagan Gerislynn has come out of her shell about being the death metal rock goddess 'Beautiful Scars' and is going to be performing at the next school dance, singing her new single "I'm Not Just A Prefect". This song is part of her new album "Prefects Get Down, Too!" Due to Miss Scar's new video coming out, it has been confirmed that Ravenclaw Prefect Drew Thornton will be known as "Dancing Dunce" in the 'Prefects get down too!' video. Dancing Dunce and Beautiful Scars have been reportedly seen together out and about. Patrick Nollet - secretly planning to kill us all? An anonymous source left this sign which they found INSIDE Patrick Nollet's pillow, which he seems to have been hiding. Does this Hufflepuff have an Ego so big and twisted that this sign makes him feel good about himself. Perhaps he should be a Ravenclaw...

Eye to Eye: The Third Eye’s Perspective on Life Forecasted By: Celina JedynakSagittarius (November 23 – December 22)Watch that hot temper of yours this month, Sagittarius. It won’t be getting you anywhere but in deep water. And we all know what happens to fire when it gets cooled off with water. Instead put your energy into something creative like writing or cooking. Just watch for the heat in the kitchen. If you can’t take it, get out. Capricorn (December 23 – January 20)From one daily experience to the next, you seem to be as calm and collected as they come, dear Capricorn. But watch out when a turn from the unexpected takes you off guard and threatens the coolness that you usually have. Take comfort in what you hold dear, and keep it close to you at all times. Aquarius (January 21 – February 19)Thin ice is where you will be walking this month, Aquarius. Sometimes, you just don’t know when to quit and pay attention to those around you rather than yourself, and those you treasure will be telling you of it. Listen to what they say, and take heed, for they really do know what they are talking about. Much luck! Pisces (February 20 – March 20)Two ways, two options. Doesn’t it always seem that you have more options than actual decisions that you are making, Pisces? Finally, this month you will take a course of action that you may not find to be the best one you could have chosen. Don’t worry, you’re a survivor. You’ll pull through it, but watch for the rocks among the rapids, they’ll hurt. Aries (Mach 21 – April 20)It’s easier to give forgiveness than get permission, dear Aries, and whatever way you turn this month, you’ll be finding this truer than you’d ever have wanted to. Everything you do will go wrong, and you will accept that, but remember that with every wrong turn, you’ll eventually get back to where you started. Make the right turn instead, and get back on track. Taurus (April 21 – May 21)You just don’t give up, and your stubbornness will totally be your downfall for most of this month. Take a chill pill and relax a bit before going on. This is your body's way of telling you to take it easy, and not worry so much about the stuff you don’t control. Go with the flow, and relax. Otherwise, your going to be in way over your head. Gemini (May 22 – June 21)Be conservative in what you generate, but liberal in what you contemplate. Don’t be afraid to go outside of the box with ideas and or concepts that you create. Your imagination will rule this month, don’t waste it! Cancer (June 22 – July 22)“Ask no questions, and you will be told no lies”, this quote by Charles Dickinson says it all for you this month, dear Cancer. You will find that things will be and are hidden from you and when you try to find out exactly what those things are, you cannot because they will be hidden behind many lies. Watch yourself, and only believe half of what you hear, and none of what you see. Leo (July 23 – August 21)Courageous Leo, you will fear nothing as always and this will cause some difficulties when your fears are tried by the closest to you. Remember, you are your own person and just because your friends decide to jump off a bridge, you really don’t have to. Who is living your life? You are. So, start acting like it. Virgo (August 22 – September 23)Nothing. That is what you will find most of what you have learned in life really means all at once. Something will happen that changes your views on life and you will need to reevaluate a lot before regaining your balance with life. Don’t worry, it was never said that what change is to come is bad, just be prepared. Libra (September 24 – October 23) And you thought life couldn’t get any better. Just wait for it…there it is! The luck you have been searching for is right around the corner, my dear Libra. Everything you want to happen this month will. Why and how you ask? Simple. You will finally be able to have the opportunity to get what you want and you will not hesitate to take it. Happy month! Scorpio (October 24 – November 22)You will find that you have more friends then you ever knew you had, all waiting to help you in your time of need. That will be this month. All you have to do is accept them willingly and not chase them away. They are really there to help you. Welcome them.

Mysterious Babble Written By: Saki
Do you ever wish you could just stop? Just stop talking, stop walking, stop moving and just take a minute to really look around? I feel like that sometimes. Feel like, we’re on a train that’s going way too fast for our own good. It’d be nice to just be able to get off and stand on the platform, get your head set right and try to jump back on. It’d be nice if there was some way that we could just hit a magic button and the world stopped spinning, if only for a moment or two. Just a moment like that so we can see what’s going on. We can see what we’ve done wrong and try to fix it or see what we’ve done right and try to go in that direction. But life doesn’t work like that, does it? It doesn’t really ask us our opinion and it sure as hell doesn’t care what we want. Still, we try. We try for those moments where we can catch our breath before getting back into the race. We try to keep up, try to keep going. But we never really get it, do we? We never really get off that train. We’re stuck. We can’t slow down, we can’t stop it. All we can really do is just keep going. Right?

The Ending of A Story...The Beginning of the TruthWritten By: Felicity HjortPhotograph Above: Arianna Shriver-KailasMany of you know our Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain. She aspires to be a healer, she has he eyes of an Eagle (perhaps why she's in Ravenclaw and a seeker?), resides in Qui-lin, and has worn a muggle leg brace for a good amount of the autumn season. But why? Why is she wearing one, what happened, and why not fix whatever is wrong with some good old wizarding techniques? After an exclusive interview with Arianna Shriver-Kailas, I have learned the truth outside of, or is it inside of, the rumours. She was not in a fight with a gaggle of girls over Prefect Andrew Thornton, she did not go cliff diving and land in the wrong location of where the giant glob of jell-o was supposed to be, she was in fact injured in one of the most natural of ways, by muggle transportation. Over the summer holidays, Shriver-Kailas was visiting Thornton at his residence in the United States of America for the break. Apparently, on a chance to go surfboarding (go to the library and search in the section entitled “Muggle Recreational Sporting” if you do not know what this is) and on the intent of joining Thornton's Grandmother for tea, the two Eagles were in an automobile accident (automobile's are motorized transportation muggles use to go places as they do not have the ability to use the Floo Network, fly on brooms, or apparate). This accident ended in a peculiar way, though. Shriver-Kailas explained to me how she felt, the things she encountered upon opening her eyes, and the disappearance of Thornton during this ordeal. Apparently, another vehicle was involved in this particular accident, not only ruining the vehicle that crashed into Thornton and Shriver-Kailas, but making quite a bit of damage to the Thornton's own Mustang. Being able to hear the panic of on-lookers, Thornton was taken from the vehicle, but Shriver-Kailas remained inside. While we know Thornton was escorted to a Muggle Hospital, the details of Shriver-Kailas' time are of her own accord. What she remembers includes being pulled from the vehicle, being tended to(though not in the way one should be when injured as badly as the Eagle was), and possible leads to what may have happened. Being kept from treatment she should have received well before the time she did made magical healing to her shattered knee, not impossible, but perhaps more dangerous than to allow it to heal in the muggle way, with time. Memories of what happened are still fresh, but the rumours flying about need a bit of updating. There was no ostrich, there was no mound of pudding, there was no gaggle of giggling girls, there was no intimidating mouse. Arianna Shriver-Kailas was injured in a normal way, nothing out of the extreme of normalities in today's world. The brace was for the better in her healing process, not to grab attention, not to show she had been injured but was in fact just fine. There is reasoning behind most things, many just need to look deeper into such reasonings, I suggest, stop gossiping and instead ask, I'm sure you'd get an answer.
