(Very EXTREMELY Open)
July 22nd
2nd day of Music Fest
8:05pm
Stage One had been closed off for nearly two hours in preparation for the night's closing performance. The heavy curtains still closed over the platform, security crowded around to keep any nosey fans from getting backstage to see if they could get a peak at the band. The band, Elizabeth's Tears, was huddled together in a back corner of the stage, oblivious as to whether or not they even HAD any fans eager to see them tonight. This was their first live performance and even their singer had a bad case of stage fright, which made it even worse for the guys because she was one of those who got a slight case of nerves that quickly went away the moment she opened her mouth. If she froze up, all their preparation would be fruitless.
After being told, again, that they were already late for the curtain call, Li Mei assured her band that she would be okay. As they headed out on stage, the guys gave her one last look that told her they would kill her if she didn't make it on stage. They were only half-serious, though Mei really wouldn't have been surprised if they actually followed through.
Another minutes went by as Ben, Mike, and Jacob settled into their places; Jake at his drumset with its dark blue colouring and the band's name emblazoned on the front, Mike with his bass guitar stood to the left and in front of Jake, and Ben stood on the right with his guitar. They each took a deep breath and, with a count-off with the drumsticks, dove into their first single "Touche" sans singer. They were relieved that stage fright quickly lifted, leaving behind just a slight nervous feeling in their guts, and were so into the familiar song they didn't notice if anyone was cheering or even wondering were their singer was. She was, at the moment, still hiding backstage, waiting for her moment to come on.
At the last resounding note of the song, the band stood still for a moment, savoring the sound as it drifted into the crowd. A hesitation, and then Ben stepped forward to the mic.
"We'd like to thank you all for coming out here tonight," Ben's thick Scottish accent boomed over the sound system he still did not understand, what with its magical inhansments and whatnot. "As you know..." he paused at a bit of screaming from some girls at the front and chuckled a bit. "As you know, this is our first live performance and we hope we live up to your expecations."
"Now, I'm sure you all didn't come to get a look at the handsome young men of the band....all still single, I might add," a few chuckles and what could have been a boo were heard, "but the beautiful young lass who helped make this band what it is today." Now there were some claps and cheers. The crowd was getting what they'd come for.
"So, without further ado, I'd like to introduce, and with your help congratulate her on her recent engagement.......LI MEI!"
And the young woman ran up on stage. Dressed in dark black jeans, high boots, a black top and red leather jacket, hair streaked with blue and green with makeup to match. She was not what some expected while others thought she was more. And to a smaller group she would look very familiar. Whether they had seen her in the tent full of art, or wandering the halls of Hogwarts just this past year, they would either wonder if she had a twin, or if she really was who they thought she was: Arianna Marlow Shriver-Kailas.
"He wasn't supposed to say anything," Mei commented as she took the mic and gave Ben a playful punch in the arm. She was slightly mortified he'd told a crowd of strangers when she hadn't even had time to tell her friends. She was sure she'd get crap for that. "But now that's it's out, I have to admit I was surprised and extremely happy to find out that my man feels the same way about me as I do him. Which is why I wrote this song for him..."
And that was the initial introduction before. Short and simple. Easier than they had thought it would be, with a good lead into their first set, a catchy sort of song, more rock than ballad, titled, "You May Not Be Perfect, But You Are Perfect For Me."
