Accepted! Welcome to Hogwarts.
[Full Character Name:] Derrick Riley Breckenridge
[Character Gender:]Male
[Country of Citizenship:]Dual Citizenship between US and UK
[Date of Birth:]April, 8, 1996
[Physical Character Description:]
Graced with the brown shaggy hair that occasionally covers the bright blue eyes that his father left him and the fair white skin and bone structure from his mother that gives him a full face he is all that remains of his parents image. Tall for his age Derrick stands only a shade underneath 6 foot at 5`11 which fits the rest of his lanky form well. His movements and gestures jerky and awkward Derrick fits perfectly under the title of a teenager. Usually seen in plain clothing or the occasional band tee when it comes to his upper body, he sticks mostly to jeans also and will throw on shorts when he feels the weather suits the matter for his lower half. The clothes usually are also not thrown on with much care just put on any which way inside out or outside in and for the most part Derrick is pretty happy with his untidiness. On occasion he will wear glasses but usually only for reading or other such purposes and they are not really needed but just for show.
[Personality Character Description:]
In a nutshell Derrick is a the type of person no one really notices and he's pretty okay with that. Not really sure what he'll do with his new found abilities he's still in a phase of wonderment of what he's stumbled upon and been granted. Also Derrick for whatever reason can't decide what he wants when it comes to his actions. While he's drawn to certain people he rarely opens his mouth around them, only really speaks to those who he doesn't like and in those cases it is more often then not to stick up for himself or someone else when angry enough. The only other time he seems to find his voice is when he sings or unfortunately starts reading aloud without taking notice. Derrick though is not quick to anger only when his sense of justice is compromised or he feels he's been pushed too far for some reason or another. No friends beside his cat, guitar, and books would describe his social situation to a more accurate tee. To be honest though this is how Derrick has always been and prefers to keep it that way. Until something changes he'll just continue to keep to himself and sing songs he doesn't fully understand yet because love really isn't too big of a thought with him at all and he hasn't really even explored much in the realm of girls. He's heard of it in these songs he listens to but hasn't seen or found it yet; not that he's aware of at least. In all Derrick prefers to play it all pretty closely to the chest and keep it low key. He hasn't been noticed for the past two years and has been picking up this magic thing just like he had been back at home with his studies, so it must be working pretty well by this point hasn't it?
[History:] Born in the United States Derrick resided with his parents, until the age of 8, when they were killed in a car accident when they went out one night. Up until this point he was quite content with his life and had for the most part had an enjoyable childhood. They weren't exactly the wealthiest family but they weren't the poorest either and his parents up until that point had done their best for him to live an enjoyable life.If either of his parents were wizarding they did an impeccable job of hiding it from him for he never knew about it seeing as they both worked seemingly muggle jobs his mother school teacher and his father a salesmen for a couch company. Had Derrick actually ever shown magical talent before this point he honestly wouldn't have noticed. Being a very passive person issues that angered him didn't come along at all and for the most part he was oblivious to too many things to have taken notice to it. After the car crash though due to having no immediate relatives Derrick spent around a year bouncing around from orphanage to orphanage until he was adopted by a loving couple who lived both in the US and in the UK. They told him it was his eyes that told them he was to be their new son. The same eyes that had turned so many other potential parents away in shudders or mummers of discontent. Quickly after adoption though Derrick cut his previous ties with his homeland and everything that reminded him of his parents and the life he lost and stayed in the UK after persuading his new found parents with enough uncharacteristic whining on his part and passing a naturalization test for the UK to grant him citizenship.
Since then Derrick has been living pleasantly in the UK enjoying what is the new place for him to enjoy that his new doting parents have so quickly given the child that they couldn't give birth to but found in an orphanage. In what is a step up from his previous middle class life he's surrounded by now a more up scale lifestyle. Not accustomed to it would be an understatement as he still practices the same habits and lives the same. Living in trees during summer nights with his guitar Francesca and spending winters by the fires like his parents used to make. Missing his old parents? Of course he does but never one to dwell on things he's moved on adjusting to his new and somewhat awkward lifestyle. The only thing he has at this point that keeps him connected still to them is his guitar Francesca which he cherishes and it never leaves his sight. While his new parents weren't always there due to their business in the US(Hence their dual citizenship) he had someone to look after him hired by them when they traveled back to the US if he didn't feel like going. His life perked a bit when he received a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry requesting for him to join as a student. Up until that point he had for the most part been home schooled and while his new parents took well to it and were accepting after being assured it wasn't some prank by the headmistress of the school they urged him to attend seeing it as a bright and special opportunity for him. While both his real and adoptive parents had in fact been muggles so he enters as somewhat of an outsider. With the turmoil the wizarding world Derrick is as awkward as they come to the situation and knows little about it. The struggle seems to be the only part of the wizarding world that he hasn't emerged himself into because he wants no part in it. He's enjoying Hogwarts now for what it should be enjoyed for, in his opinion anyway, a place of wonderment and magic. And while he wasn't even become settled in his new parent's vice like loving grip he can't help but want to explore.
Derrick's first year was just as he would hoped it would be and while he meet no new friends he still saw it as a large success. With Niwa watching the corners he explored late at night discovering many a place to play his guitar and rest peacefully under the stars. Due to large urging he doesn't explore the Forbidden Forest and spends a large amount of his time in the library studying and learning about what he has found. Nothing out of the ordinary just typical Derrick.
His second year brought more of the same although it gave Derrick an oppurtunity to be a bit more bold. With his age came along a bit of confidence with Derrick that he had not had before with his guitar. Playing in front of others in the courtyard or on the grounds was not uncommon. Listening to their compliments Derrick would at the most give his name and then leave soon afterward. After some research in the Library Derrick decides that next year will be the year to explore the Forbidden Forest and for this trip he will leave Niwa at home no use risking his cat's life. Also on one of his late night adventures around the castle he discovered, what he would find out after some more time in the library, the Room of Requirement. Since then he has taken largely to using this as a place to practice spells and his guitar should the towers or the fifth floor be occupied. Derrick leaves the school year hoping that next year he will find friends of some sort.
[Pros and Cons:]
Pros:
1.Trustworthy
2.Entertaining
3.Understanding
Cons:
1.Ill Tempered
2.Shyness
3.Bluntly Brutally Honest
[Role Playing Example:] Derrick sat underneath the tree. It's fading leaves dazzled him still, despite his age and attitude, which both heavily suggested that he should have far since left such amazement back at the age of five. He gazed around at the rest of his surroundings quickly as he outstretched his legs; feeling the ground underneath as his bright blue eyes took in everything else. He was safe here or at least he felt it. He didn't actually know if he was or not but that was always how he felt outdoors. The fresh air seemed like a bubble as if nothing bad could happen to him whenever he could breath or smell it. Standing in his bare feet Derrick trod across the empty field to his house he would be back out soon enough and could wait to taste the fresh air on his tongue. He heard music coming from the cottage and quickened his pace. A small look of sadness crossed his face as the sound sunk in because it was not something that he wanted to be on the outside of. Music was his passion even above magic and it was the only thing he knew more about or of. The movements that would follow next were something he normally did and had he ever let anyone get close enough they would have known instantly that this was nothing out of the ordinary for him to sigh heavily and shake his head tousling his hair as he had just done. Bursting through the door he gave the hired hands a hurt look and spoke sullenly.
"I can't believe you started without me we've been practicing all bloody week with this song. I've taught it to you so everyone knows it like the back of their hand and you start without me. Uncalled for if I do say so myself."
Teppei the only one who was not under hire gave him an odd look and quirked a brow at him.
"Eh we knew the only way to get you out of the yard was to start so sit down and play."
Derrick shrugged passively and agreed. Teppei who was his only real friend knew that what he had just said would have been true in most occasions. For once though he thought he would be on time but today was not the day for him apparently. Adjusting his weight Derrick lifted up his guitar and swung it over his shoulder and tenderly plucking it's chords softly. He just knew that this must be the way one was supposed to treat a girl; he of course had no first hand knowledge of this but knew that they must be treated with the same care he took with Francesca. He wondered quickly if it was odd that he named his guitar but withdrew the thought from his brain quickly. He named everything be it from his guitar to his pillows to even other people. His line of thinking was simple, Derrick believed whole heartedly that everything deserved a conversation and he needed something to call his pillow when he was talking to it. He was positive that these objects appreciated it! Worse more whoever he met he never quite liked there name and had the odd misfortune of renaming everyone interacted with. To say the least it wasn't a pleasant icebreaker when you call someone a different name by which the introduced themselves and go by; most people assumed he forgot their names which was quite far from the case. If anything he remembered them all to well and had an extreme distaste for them. To be honest he had never meet a girl named Sally who looked like a Sally or at least he didn't think so. Derrick had in a desperate attempt to be proved wrong gone on a search and failed horribly much to his dismay. So he'd just continue to name things. Giving another sign of defeat with his train of thought he began the song softly and sang the words gently as the tempo increased.
"All the words in my mouth that the scene deemed unworthy of letting out banded together to form a makeshift militia and burrowed bloodily through my tongue and my teeth. I stood proud in the gallery. With my open socket of a mouth for them to see. They all just laughed and said, "That boy, he, that boy's got woe. Woe. He lives with woe. Woe."
Derrick dictated tempo with his head to the others in the room and let the music flow. Derrick could never write for whatever reason but loved to sing and play. Maybe he was looking for his muse but until then he would just cover anything that struck his fancy. The lyrics flowed through his mind like vivid pictures when he closed his eyes like this but it was as if he didn't even need them in front of him, all he needed was the sounds and he would know what to say next in the song.
"And this girl who I met whose pride makes her hard to forget,
She took pity on me horizontally but most likely because of my band.(hey) It's all I can get when I'm lonely and these visions of death seem to own me. In the quiet of the classrooms all across the stacked United States of Woe. Woe. We live with woe."
The crescendo came and went at that point and he just played, Francesca would hate him later for his harshness with her at this point but he knew his acoustic guitar would forgive, she always had before. Everyone hit the notes perfectly and the bliss that Derrick was left in was incredible. It was like this every time after he played. He just had a feeling of wholeness like the world was at peace because of him and in reality what more could he asked for. They finished in a short amount of time and he was soon laying back out in the grass, tasting the fresh air, and feeling the wind through his toes to him this simplicity was all he needed despite the fact that he had more. He would never understand what more people could ever want from the world if they wanted more then what he had at this moment. Turning his head he muttered sleepily to the grass as he dozed off in the warm summer sun.
"I hope you don't mind me using you as a bed there really isn't any possible way around it at this point Craigery, I'm sorry."
