To Abigail Charlotte Greenwater

Sitting in the library in her home, Jane started to write a letter to her dear cousin, Abigail. It had been months since they saw each other, even wrote to each other. Jane had always loved Abigail. Up until she was ten Abigail was a mini Jane, always going on about the state of the world and how horrid Hogwarts would be went she went there. That was until her pureblood friends, her only friends let her get arrested for a petty crime. Then she changed. She never spoke about her views and Jane worried that Abigail may turn into one of them. As she sat there she though for a long time about how to bring up those views again, to get her old cousin back.

Dearest Abs.

It's been so long since we've spoken, almost too long. I long to see you again and have tea parties late at night. How have you been? In your last letter you seemed quite down. I hope everything is getting better, I truly do. Are you excited to be back at Hogwarts? I know Aunt Ava keeps saying that song and dance over and over again but I feel that this year will change everything for you. You'll change drastically. I just know it! Which brings me to something I must tell you! If you would like, over Christmas break Auntie Ava said you may stay with me for a while! How nice would that be? We can sit my the fire and drick hot chocolate and stay up late and listen to music! Just the two of us, no adults, no boring Christmas sweaters. Maybe I'll even invite a few friends over, you know, we can have a party!

Please do write back soon, I miss you so much Abs. Just don't worry and smile. People will love you.

With a flourish of her quill she finished her letter and looked it over. Nothing too overt in it, just enough to get Abby moving along. Though most of her plans were devious, Jane really did wish all of her love and for her cousin to have a good year. She sealed the letter and took it over to her owl. "Bring thing to Abby, you know where she is." She gave her owl a pat and watched her fly into the night sky.

That morning, while sitting at breakfast Abigail found her day brightened by a letter from her cousin. When they were younger they were very close. Abigail would follow Jane around like a puppy. She loved Jane, she wanted to be like Jane. She still does want to be like Jane. To her Jane was the perfect girl. When she was at Hogwarts she was very popular among the Slytherins. Everyone loved her. When Abigail was sorted in to Gryffindor she wasn't worried about what her aunt and uncle would say, she was worried about what Jane would say. The surprising thing was Jane didn't mind.

Abby ran back up to her dormitory and found some spare parchment. Dipping her quill into the ink jar carefully she started to write back to Jane.

Dearest Janie,

I miss you too! I kept trying to make it over to Diagon this summer but Auntie needed help with Marcus so I was stuck babysitting almost every night. I'm 15! I need a life, or something close to it. How have I been? The past few weeks have been very....odd. Not a bad odd, just odd. I feel out of my usual element. I met a boy on the train to Hogwarts. His name is Dustan and he's ever so nice. Dustan is also a Slytherin prefect. Won't you be proud. Haha. Everything else has been fine. Classes are boring as ever. I don't really talk to anyone else besides Dustan and those times are few and far between.

Seeing you around Christmas sounds lovely! I think I may have to take you up on that one. Meeting some of your friends also sound very lovely. If they're friends with you then I think I'll like them as well. Alas, I must go now and get to class. I ran out of breakfast to write back to you!

With a small smile she sealed the note and stuffed it into her pocket. At that moment she had no time to make her way to the Owlry. Later that day, after Charms she did. She sprinted up the stairs and almost threw the letter at one of the owls. Dusting herself off she calmly tied the letter to one of the owl's legs and waved it off.
