[ Physical Character Description: ] Easily the tallest out of his big family, Jacob stands around 5’11’ and is still very much a growing boy. He is fairly lanky, with long legs that are perfect for running and long arms. Despite their gangly appearance, Jacob’s arms are fairly strong. He’s always been an athlete, in and out of the wizarding world, although his main focus has been track and field. Jacob has a deep love of running and its how he keeps himself healthy and in shape. It is very important for him to be in good shape, so he does his best to stay that way.
Because of his Native heritage, Jacob has extremely dark coloured hair and russet coloured skin. His dark hair is short and spikey. He doesn’t like to have his hair down, so it is spiked every day. Jake’s facial features are very much that of his father’s. He takes after the man greatly with the same narrow eyes, thick eyebrows and face shape. Jake has an oval-shaped face with a strong jaw line and a rather pointed chin. Jake has a very thing upper lip while his bottom lip is rather full. His dark eyebrows over dark eyes that are a chocolate brown colour with flecks of gold in the right light. Jacob is a very cute boy and he knows this. He’s got a cute, boyish grin that he flashes to get attention and to get his way. He’s very skilled in persuasion.
Jake does have much of a dress code. He’s easy-going, so whatever happens to be clean is what he’s probably wearing. As most of his free time is spent running and working out, those are the kind of clothes Jacob can normally be found in. A t-shirt and a pair of short are what he’s most fond of. One thing however that Jake is definitely not fond of is shoes. Since he was a little boy, Jacob has never enjoyed wearing shoes and prefers to go barefoot. He finds shoes incredibly uncomfortable and much prefers feeling the ground in with his toes. From not wearing shoes, Jake has rather large calluses on the bottom of his feet, which makes being barefoot even easier. It doesn’t mean it wouldn’t hurt if he stepped on a rock or a piece of glass, but it certainly helps. The only shoes Jacob doesn’t mind are his moccasins he got when he was younger and have lasted his whole life.
[ Personality Character Description: ] There is not much hidden in Jacob Muscowequan. He is an open, honest person and he’s not afraid to let people know what he’s thinking. He doesn’t like secrets and he doesn’t tell lies either, simply because that was the way he was raised and it is part of his culture. In his native tongue, there is no word for “truth” because there is no need to use it. A lie is never told and that is just how Jacob is as well. He understands that some people believe lying in some circumstances is okay, but he’s one that would never lie. Although, being mixed up in a culture not his own, Jacob struggles with his own morals and that of those around him. He has always been a bit of an outsider, simply because he looks different, and tries to integrate himself more with the other kids. He doesn’t like some of their customs, but he’s decided to give it all a try anyways.
Jacob is an adventurous kind of boy. He likes to try new things, even if they’re dangerous and he loves to explore. On his reservation back home, Jake was always exploring the woods and beach around him with his friends, looking for a cool new place to hide and hang out. He doesn’t mind taking chances, but often he does dive headlong into things without much consideration of the outcome. Jacob doesn’t exactly think things through (I.e. the cliff-diving incident) and has more than once, just barely averted disaster. It’s not that Jacob likes causing trouble…okay maybe that’s a lie. He does like causing trouble and he’s really big on pranks, but he doesn’t ever pull a prank with the intention of someone getting hurt. Maybe just covered in some kind of goop.
Despite his antics, Jake is really a very nice guy. He doesn’t like hurting people and if he does by accident, he feels awful and has a tendency to apologize profusely. Jacob would never set out to hurt someone who had done him wrong because he’s a firm believer in karma and knows they’ll get what they deserve in the end. He is also a firm believer in re-incarnation and hopes that some people will come back in their next life as a dung beetle. Jake has a kind, open heart which he lets anyone into. He’s not scared of getting hurt. Some people find this trait about his a little naïve, but he doesn’t think so. He likes people and likes having friends, so he’s a nice guy to everyone. Jacob doesn’t like being mean to people, so he treats them the way he would want to be treated.
[ History: ] Jacob “Muscowequan” was born on a Cree Nation reservation in northern Canada. He’s the second youngest of 7 children born is his family. In addition to the large immediate family, Jacob was also surrounded by cousins, aunt, uncles and very close family friends on the reserve his whole life. Jake was raised in a loving, caring place, even though the conditions in which his family lived were not the most luxurious. In a, small, two-bedroom house, Jake lived with his parents and siblings, as well as his mother’s sister, her husband and their three children. Down the street lived Jake’s father’s two brothers, their wives and their 11 children combined. Jacob was raised to put family before anything else and he was taught his traditional ways, as well as the non-Native customs that had been introduced to his people.
As a child, Jake spent most, if not all, of his time outside. He discovered his love for running at an early age and any game he played with his siblings and cousins had to have some kind of running to it. When he was little, they played simple games like tag, Manhunt and Capture the Flag. But as he grew older, the boys in the family started to get more competitive with each other. Their simple games turned into real competition and Jake developed a very competitive streak. They challenged each other to do stupid things and Jacob was always the one to agree in order to prove he was the best. There was on day when the boys dared him to leap off the edge of a cliff and plummet at least 10 stories into the ocean. Of course, Jacob agreed, jumped and nearly drown. He hated to lose to the other boys and worked his hardest to be the best of them. While Jacob and his family had a lot of fun and games during their childhood, they also had responsibilities to the people of their reserve. They attended the school on their reserve, learning both their native traditions, as well as non-Native traditions. Jacob was taught to hunt and fish along with the other boys, under the instruction of the older men on the reserve. Jacob loved learning about his Native heritage and loved spending time in the wilderness. However, as he grew up and began venturing off the reserve with his friends and family, Jake faced a lot of racism. He faced name-calling by the non-Native kids he met and was pinned with the stereotype that “Injuns” all lived in teepees in the woods. Jake didn’t understand why his people were made fun of and discriminated against so much, but he did his best to ignore it.
Jacob’s different skin colour and heritage wasn’t the only thing that made him stick out like a sore thumb. Sometimes, strange things were happening around Jake. While racing with his relatives, Jake would suddenly find himself at least 20 feet ahead of everyone else when he pushed himself hard. He knew he couldn’t be that fast of a runner and could never explain how it happened. Also, things that went missing all of a sudden ended up in Jacob’s possession. Jake is fairly absent-minded and would often leave things in odd places. He knew that he always lost things, but then they started to appear in their correct spot. Jacob had no idea how things managed to find their way back to the spot they should have been in. It was a long time before the boy told anyone of this strange talent of his. When he explained to his father what was going on, he didn’t want anything to do with it. He was convinced Jake was lying, which simply didn’t happen in their culture. His mother, on the other hand, was more accepting and believed that her son possessed some kind of magical talent. Jacob had never known of anyone else having this kind of talent until his mother divulged to him only that she in fact was a witch and had attended a magical school in her youth. She had balanced magical training as well as her Native teachings. As it turned out, his mother had a few connections left in the wizarding world and managed to pull some strings and get her son on the list to attend Hogwarts.
For the years Jacob attended Hogwarts, he lived with family friends in England and gained citizenship. He spent a couple summers back home, but it was too expensive for him to fly back and forth. Jake made a couple new friends in England, but faced more racism and name-calling. A lot of the time, he was referred to as “Red Skin” and “Injun” but Jacob had mastered the art of ignoring. It wasn’t that it didn’t bother him, he just chose not to react to it. At Hogwarts, however, Jacob never met any kind of racism like that. He found people who cared about his bloodline, but never anyone who cared about his skin. School always felt like home for him, even after the lockdowns and invasion of the Dark wizards. So far from his native land, Hogwarts was a safe place for Jacob.
[ Pros and Cons : ] For the most part, Jacob is a calm and collected boy. He rarely panics in high stress situations and keeps a cool head. He is a very spiritual person and often meditates and is quite skilled at clearing his mind quickly and calming himself down. He doesn’t like confrontation and makes himself walk away from situations like that. Unfortunately, nobody is perfect and Jake is a prime example of that. There have been times when Jake has not been able to control himself because while he is a peaceful person, he still stands up for what he believes in and the people he cares about. Jacob doesn’t let his loved ones get pushed around and always steps in to defend them.
Jacob’s mischievous ways have gotten him into trouble more than once. He likes to have fun and usually knows where to draw the line, but sometimes he can get caught up and carried away. Sometimes his practical jokes can get a little dangerous, but he would never intentionally hurt someone. If he did hurt someone, Jacob is the kind of person who would apologize repeatedly and do something to make it up to them.
Lastly, one of Jacob’s biggest flaws, but also something that can be admired, is his openness. He speaks his mind and isn’t afraid to do so. But that has also gotten Jake into some pretty big trouble. Sometimes he doesn’t have much of a filter and says things that he really should keep to himself. Jacob doesn’t like to lie though, so he always tells the truth, even if its hard to hear. He tells people what he really thinks of them and although some people don’t like it, some admire his honesty.
[ Role Playing Example: ] Not today, brother Jacob thought to himself, standing at the ready to take off the second the signal was given. He turned his head and looked at his older brother standing next to him, looking just as determined as Jake was. With a sly grin, Jake made a growling noise, egging his brother on. It was always more fun to irritate his siblings before he raced them; it just made the victory that much sweeter.
“You ready?” Jacob taunted, bouncing on the balls of his feet. His brother growled back at him, less playfully than the way Jake had growled. The boy simple laughed, kicking off his shoes as he readied himself. Looking ahead of them, Jake saw his sister wave the flag and before his brother had even realized it, Jake had taken off. Pumping his legs hard, Jacob increased the distance between him and his brother. In a matter of seconds, there was no way he could lose this race.
