Emma Rosalina Wickham
Character Gender: Female
Country of Citizenship: United Kingdom
Physical Character Description:
Emma was landed with the ensnared heritages of Mexican and Irish, making a perfect mess of conflicting attributes. Mercifully, in her opinion, her mother’s Mexican traits were dominant, for the most part, in her physical appearance. High cheeks bones curve down to a pointed chin creating a heart shaped face that freckles are scattered upon. Her nose is small and her lips are uneven with her bottom being slightly larger than the top, which annoys her more than it should. Emma has too much of her dad in her to have the dark bronze skin tone that her mother has and ended up with a manilla combination.
Large doe eyes stare widely out into the world. Varying from hazel to green in color, her eyes change depending on whether she is inside or outside. Furthermore, there is a liveliness to them that makes her look constantly sharp and astute. Emma’s expression is almost always fixed on a far-off, worried look that only truly disappears when she smiles. Because when she really smiles, it touches her eyes.
Her hair is a dark brown shade that radiates with red tint when it hits the sunlight, thanks to her dear old dad. A slender figure that only goes up to about 5’3” in height allows her to fly faster on a broom.
The tomboy inside Emma loves any and every piece of muggle clothing that she can get her hands on. This core flourished from growing up with two older brothers that she always roughhoused with and simply abhorred them from saying that she was too much of a girl to do anything. She adores the comfortable clothes that non-magical people get to wear and can’t understand the use of a robe for the life of her. Although she put up a front for her brothers, Emma secretly wished to be exactly like her mother. She always begged to play in her mother’s high heels or wear a piece of her jewelry.
Personality Character Description:
Emma is royally convinced that inheritance is split up equally, because for what she lacks in Irish appearance she makes up for in attitude. Her patience has been shot to hell since the day she was born. This most likely draws from her willingness to stand up to anyone and not back down. In the past, this trait has been a bit of a problem but has grown increasingly mild since her brothers moved out. Although the fighting Irish spirit still lies just under her sugar-coated surface.
Meeting new people has never been too awfully hard for her, she just does what she needs to and picks up friends along the way. Even though she isn’t outgoing, she is a generally happy person and is optimistic for the most part. Her ability to think on her toes and wiggle out of situations gives her an edge up in a lot of different areas. Emma is always paying attention, make no doubt about it. Her far off look may fool people, but inside her mind there are at least a thousand observations that she is mentally noting. The only problem is that when she focuses in, everything else drops out which isn’t good when being called upon in class randomly.
Subjects like Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts come easily to her. Her favorite subjects have always dealt with casting spells in some way. However, following instructions is something that she just can’t seem to do. Whether it is from her Potions’ textbook to a rule at her house, she believes that it is there to be broken.
Emma thrives on having fun and being active. It was hard to ignore sports as she grew up with two older brothers and naturally grew to love them, all of them. Her favorite, of course, is quidditch because she loves how fast and thrilling riding a broom can be.
History:
Emma Rosalina Wickham was born on September 21 to Walter and Linda Wickham one bright and shining morning.
Walter and Linda were one of the most unlikely couples to ever make it past their first two months of marriage with her mother being a full-blown Latina and her father looking, pretty much, like a leprechaun. However, they were and still are in love for some unbeknownst reason. The couple had met seven years before Emma’s birth while Walter was vacationing in Mexico. They just happened across each other one night after he had gotten lost from his tour group and they stayed up talking until dawn. Because of that, Walter stayed in Mexico for a month longer than he had originally planned. When he knew he couldn’t stay any longer, Walter asked Linda to come with him back to Ireland. Linda felt it only fair to be honest with Walter before he made any decisions. and told him about her being a witch. As boring as Emma’s dad seems, he took the news very calmly and only repeated his question after she was done explaining everything. The rest is history. The first couple times, Emma loved hearing how her mother and father met, but by the time she could tell the story word for word she couldn’t help but want to gag.
Three years after getting married, the couple had twins named Christopher and Cameron that were the spitting image of Walter, right down to the last red hair and freckle. Four years later, Emma showed up on a whim. When the family would go out together, people simply hurt their head trying to figure out who belonged where and how exactly Walter and Linda got the outcomes that they did.
Linda was on the verge of hysteria to have had a daughter to pass on her Mexican traditions and special memories to. Unfortunately for her, Emma didn’t exactly have the whole ‘lady-like’ thing down pat. Having older brothers toughened her up pretty quickly and molded her into a hotheaded little girl. Her first fight had been in a muggle daycare center after a girl named Amber with mocking yellow curls told her that she had hair the color of poo. Amber’s snooty curls didn’t hold up very well after being pulled on and spit in. Emma was banned from the daycare center but swore up and down that she chose to leave.
From then on, Linda spent her time looking after Emma while the twins were home schooled. Walter and Linda tried to incorporate Emma in various other activities with magical kids her age. Somehow these all went awry and ended up in bruises or lengthy speeches in Spanish, which she didn't care to learn. Emma figured that since Cameron and Christopher were allowed to stay home all day then she could to. It was hard to get past their ‘prissy tests’ that they put her up to so that she could play with them. It was always something stupid like eat a worm or climb up to the top of a tree-which was how she broke her leg when she was seven. Plus, it didn’t help that she was always trying on her mother’s jewelry any chance she got and begging her mom to put just a bit of lipstick on her. Every time her brothers caught her, the process of digging her self out of her ‘girly’ hole started all over again.
Growing up in Belfast, Northern Ireland gave her only the slightest hint of an Irish accent, mercifully, since it was a part of the United Kingdom and largely inhabited by Britains. The countryside made for the best adventures. The entire Wickham Estate was blanketed in soft, green velvet almost year round and made a perfect rainforest. Living right on the North Channel, Emma could watch boats pass by just outside her window. There was always something to do and see. Emma could entertain herself for hours on end in their jungle of a front lawn but preferred to spend as much time with her brothers as possible. They taught her how to play every sport that they knew and, ultimately, taught her how to fly a broomstick. Of course, her dad wouldn’t let her set a hand on one until she was eight but Cameron-the nicer one-always let her ride along with him.
Once she reached the age of eleven, her parents sat down and had ‘the talk’ with her. The magic talk that is, stay focused. They gave her the option, like they had done with the twins, to attend Hogwarts or be home schooled. There was no way that she was going to chose a foreign place where she knew no one over her home and automatically agreed to stay at Wickham Estates. After all, her brothers had been secretly teaching her little magic tricks here and there since she could speak. There was no way she was going to pass up the opportunity to learn more stuff at a faster pace than she normally would. With a quick trip to a wand store, she soon possessed an 8 ¼ inch, Maple, Peagus hair core wand.
It went on like that for two years and then it all came crashing down in Emma’s face. When her brothers turned seventeen, they declared it was time for them to move out. She decided that anger was so much better than them seeing her cry and refused to come out of her room when they left. Hardheaded, she stayed in her room until her mother came and made her come out. By that time she had figured out a plan of action, or rather an escape. Emma waited patiently for her mother to get her father and then explained to them how badly she wanted to attend Hogwarts. Of course, it was only recently that she discovered the desire to attend the school but figured that it really didn’t need to be said.
Emma could tell that she was breaking her mother’s heart by leaving her too but knew that she couldn’t stay in the huge house without her brothers there. It wasn’t right. Only questioning her motives once, they made the arrangements and, before she knew it, Emma was sailing to the mainland of the United Kingdom.
Pros:
- Emma does extremely well under high-pressure situations. She is able to think clearly and carefully about what needs to happen and exactly how it needs to happen.
- Emma is talented in transfiguring items and performing charms.
- Light and quick, she is an excellent flyer and can play sports well.
- Emma is very easy to get along with, making her very friend-accessible.
Cons:
- Emma doesn’t have much patience for anything really.
- Her temper isn’t much of a long fuse and she doesn’t often back down from something. Usually this results badly for her.
- She isn’t particularly exceptional in potions, which might be related to her inability to follow directions….but she doesn’t see the correlation.
