Cadlys Glasllyn (Camp Bluelake)
Location: Brecon Beacons, Wales.
The Brecon Beacons (Welsh: Bannau Brycheiniog) in the south and southeast of Wales, are a series of forested rolling hills, low mountains and valleys, that include the Black Mountains. The area is famous for deep caves, gorges and waterfalls.
The camp itself, guarded by the standard Muggle-repelling charms can be reached through one of the many gorges that weave their way through the mountain range. A cluster of cabins sits on the north side of a meadow with three Quidditch hoops set up on both the east and west ends. A short path leads to a crystal blue lake which is ready for swimming, canoeing, and/or fishing.
The mess hall serves three hearty meals a day and snacks are available during the in-between times. If the mess chef is in a good mood, perhaps he will put out a nice spread of treats for the staff to enjoy after the campers have gone to bed.
The crafts lodge offers the makings for the standard camp creations. The shelves are stocked with whatever you need to make bird feeders, clay pots, Wrackspurt catchers, and twig picture frames to take home to mum. The attached utility shed holds equipment for outdoor activities, keeping everything safe from the occasional summer rainstorm.
You can learn about the flora and fauna around camp in the Nature Lodge. Yes, it sounds like learning, but your Herbology and Creature Professors will be so proud of you when you show off what you know.
Every night, the camp gathers around the fire pit to sing songs, tell stories, and roast a few marshmallows under the stars. Set up in a round amphitheater there are plenty of seats for everyone. The party only lasts an hour or two, though, campers need their sleep. The rest of the day, the campfire area is a perfect place to read a book or sit and enjoy the sounds of nature.
After the campers are all tucked into their sleeping bags, the staff gathers at the lodge to relax and hang out. Don’t get too comfortable though. Someone needs to check on the kids every so often and the Director kicks everyone out at midnight to return to their bunks. The counselors know better than to stay out all night. They have a busy day tomorrow.
Thanks goes to Carina (Drew Thornton) for the creation
