[ Physical Character Description: ]
Cory is a good-looking girl, and she always has been. For as long as she can remember, she’s been that girl that was admired for her looks, but not necessarily called pretty, or beautiful. Sure, she got the word ‘interesting’ a lot, but to be honest, Cory just wasn’t sure whether that was a compliment or not. She didn’t know whether to take it as one, or get offended, but being the positive kind of gal that she is, she figured that she may as well be happy with that.
Growing up as a professionally trained dancer, she’s always been fit and toned. It was her passion, and it wasn’t hard to continue with a passion, so long as it still pushed you to do things that you never thought possible. But staying fit is one of her criteria boxes that she ticks every week, she could never let herself go and be happy. Jogging, sprint training, and ballet, are all on her daily to do list. Some think she’s crazy; if you asked Cory, she’d merely say that she was determined and persistent.
With dark brown hair, worn layered and slightly razored, you can usually see that tied back, leaving her bangs to hang out, and get in her face. Hence the reason its then usually pinned back, she can’t stand her hair in her eyes. Her eye brows are rather thick, which slightly takes away from her feminine features, but that’s something that she’s grown to live with, and grown to love. Her smile is perfect, thanks to years of wearing braces, and brushing day and night.
Cory isn’t the type of girl to have her own style. In fact, she couldn’t give a crap what she wore, so long as it was comfortable, she didn’t give two hoots what she looked like. You could usually find her in shorts and shirts, choosing to dress more masculine, thanks to her tomboy nature. It sounds stupid, a ballet dancer who’s a tomboy, but that floats her boat.
[ Personality Character Description: ]
For a fourteen going on fifteen year old girl, Cory pretty much has the maturity thing down pat. Or so she thinks. She’s never been afraid to voice her opinion on something, its mores that she chooses to remain anonymous. She’s found that people tend to make fun of her for her accent, and it’s just a lot easier to remain her own person, by herself, without the judgmental eye of passersby. She’s never been one to make herself known without a reason.
Cory is smart. And not just your textbook intelligence, her common sense is through the roof. She’s always been like that, ever since she was little. She teaches herself how to do things, for lack of patience in waiting for someone else to. She’s always been independent like that, although most of it comes down to her impatience in other people. She doesn’t like to wait, and when it all comes to a point, she won’t.
Although it’s a mere volume thing, and a want to stay invisible, Cory can sometimes come off as being rude. However, this is a total lie. In fact, she’s incredibly polite, to her peers, to her elders and to her teachers, what she is though, is negative. She’s not always the brightest star in the sky, and she tends to write things off before they have totally lost their cause. She’s persistent and determined, but on herself, not on others. This also comes down to a lack of patience, but its more her negativity.
[ History: ]
Born into a family of five children (plus her), Cory was always different to her siblings. She was affected by the simplest things, they were all loud and boisterous, and she liked to keep to herself, at the best of times. Being the youngest in the family may have been the reason for this, but Cory always put it down to being alone, everyone else in her family was a twin, or a triple, or had someone else. Her mother, she had her father to rely on. Two of her sisters and one of her brother were triplets, and the other pair of boys was twins.
Cory though, she had no one. of course, this was not even slightly the case, but being a girl, and a rather sensitive one at that, she always thought the worst of the situation she was in. for most kids, this would give them a reason to rebel, a reason to think outside the square and live to make themselves known, but Cory just crawled further back into her shell, scared of her brothers and sisters, even though they meant the best.
She grew up in a small town, known as Cézannes, in France. Her mother was pure French, dating back as far as she could do, and her father was purely English, giving the girl a dual citizenship to the two countries. But it wasn’t until she was thirteen, and her parents split up, that she moved to England, just her and her father. All of the other people had chosen to stay with their mother, but Cory, she had always been closer to her father. She still sees her siblings during the summer holidays, but she spends all of her other holidays with her father.
When she was eleven, Cory began attended Beauxbatons, where she started to come further out of her shell, and make her known. But just as she was starting to make new friends, she was pulled out, thanks to the divorce, and shipped off to some dumb school, Hogwarts, or whatever her dad had called it. She knew nothing about it, except that it was fairly similar to the school she attended, but lower key, and poorer. That was what her dad said anyways, and what she had learnt over the divorce was that parents couldn’t be trusted.
But going back to her history, Cory's family was pureblood; on both sides there was pure magical heritage. Her mother had attended Beauxbatons herself, and her father had gone to Hogwarts. Her family as a whole went to Beauxbatons together, before of course, they were forced to part ways thanks to the divorce. Growing up, they all played magic together, not using real wands, instead just making it up as they went along, with sticks and pens to 'cast their spells' with.
[ Pros and Cons: ]
Cory is incredibly naïve. She likes to think that’s she’s mature, but by doing that, she’s almost admitting to this flaw. She’s gullible, and trusting, something that she’s been working on changing, but so far, she’s stuck on this. It’s something that can be played to her advantage, what with pushing the whole innocent thing, but it’s not working for her, not yet anyways.
Cory is negative. No matter how many times she tries to change her attitude, or mores, someone tries to change it for her, she always ends up reverting to the good old days, and ends up hanging her head in defeat.
The girl is smart, and that’s no lie. Not just textbook intelligent, other than her being naïve, her common sense is critical to her survival, and so far, she’s swimming. She’s not the typical dancer, and that’s something that she prides herself upon.
Cory is incredibly determined. When she sets herself a goal, you can be damn sure that she’s going to get there, and if she doesn’t, then she’ll simply try again. She has NEVER ever been one to give up after on attempt, something that you’d learn from talking to her briefly.
She’s her own person. Okay, this one sounds stupid, but she never follows the crowds, not ever. This isn’t one of those, ‘she doesn’t follow the trends, she sets them’, it’s a ‘she doesn’t care. at all’ sort of thing.
[ Role Playing Example: ]
if anyone could make an idiot out of themselves, it would be Cory. she always managed to say the wrong thing, do something humiliating, or just make a complete fool of herself, but she always managed to do in front of people. even when she was little, if she didn't make an absolute idiot of herself, her family took the honor in doing it for her. from falling off the stage at her dance concerts, putting her foot in her mouth, or just doing something to ruin the total moment, it was always Cory doing that caused it. it was alright when she did it to herself, she was used to it, but when she stuffed up someone else, and humiliated them on accident, that was when she truly hated her clumsiness. it was yet another devereux flaw, just another one to add onto the seemingly never-ending list. that and taking ages to open up to someone, keeping your emotions, thoughts and feelings to yourself. as she had told drew when he asked what she was like, she was an enigma, and it was going to stay like that.
if she could change herself, you can be sure that she would at her first chance. she would change herself to that girl that everyone knew, that everyone liked, and envied, but in a good way. one that was loud enough to be heard, but not obnoxious, didn't play everything by the rules, but wasn't ignorant. Cory wished she could change herself, or at least some things, but she believed that it was the impossible, and the impossible couldn't be done. as the mute button was pressed, and her face returned to the normal pinkish hue that it carried each day, Cory smiled childishly.
'Aw, thank you.' she spoke simply and sweetly, to the boy that she had never even seen, let alone spoke to. the school was big, and she was small, and quiet and shy. she wouldn't know even a quarter of the school, an eighth even. Cory was new here, and she was quiet. those two things pretty much sealed her fate as that quiet shy girl. But that was okay, she didn't like to draw attention to herself, much like she had just a few moments before.
