Abby gave one last glance down the left and right halls before venturing into the corridor straight ahead. With apprehensive steps, the Huffle couldn't help but flinch slightly as each torch illuminated with the first years' passing and then just as quickly faded. Abigail remained silent as she walked through the hall, her grip on her wand tightening with each step. Her feet were by now a bit cold and the bottom of her socks filthy though she did not notice. The silence finally got to her and trying to break it, Abigail whispered, "So, were you...er, brought up in the wizard world?" Abby had always been somewhat curious about other wizards and witches' lives, for she had grown up in a mainly muggle lifestyle.

Abby's question made her frown for a moment, a real frown, not out of nervousness or fear but what appeared to be actual depression. "Sort of...I know what my dad told me when my mother wasn't trying to keep this all hushed from me...mum wanted me to be a normal giel...now...I think this is normal...they still fight over it sometimes...I don't know how often now since I'm not home, but, I think Ellen's a witch too....so, its probably often..." Lianna replied glumly. It was one of those things she just hadn't talked about, mainly because she didn't see a point to it, and because no one had asked.

"So, your dad's a wizard than? And your mum's a witch?" If so, Abby's parents were just the opposite. She assumed Ellen was the first year's sister and refrained from asking anything about her just yet as she continued walking in the light of the torches' fires.

Her reply was delayed as she thought back over everything her dad had told her. "I...don't really know about mom, but my dad is a wizard. I think he told me only enough so I wouldn't be a clueless fool when i got here, but, I still feel like I don't know anything alot...its...different. Mum and dad were close to divorce before I got my Hogwarts letter....that basically sealed it all, I was a witch and it was final..." Lianna explained with a small, weak smile.
She wanted to be home, with her dad and sister, and, maybe her mother if she'd dropped the subject by now, but, chances were she hadn't and summer was going to be a long three months. Nothing like a family reunion.

"Oh," Abby said quietly as she looked down at the ground. "I'm sorry about your parents," she said with a flickered glance at her friend. The way Lianna said it just made her feel like Lianna thought her being a witch caused the divorce. "My dad's a wizard too though. I barely knew anything coming here, aside from some cleaning charms I learned from some books at my house to get out of doing chores." She stole another glance at Lianna to see if this cheered her up at all. "We're practically in the same boat." Aside from our mothers. A small frown found Abby's lips, though no one but herself knew what caused it. As of yet she hadn't told anyone about her mother; she didn't want any sympathy, but more than that she just didn't want to think about it.

"I didn't even know that much. Mum...well, she either was a...muggle....or just preferred not using magic or something....Dad got custody of both of us, but, mum still has her...visitation days or something like that." She sighed, pasusing momentarally to rub at her eyes. She wasn't tired, no, she was in fact preventing tears. Everything had started because she had to go and be a witch. Because some letter kept arriving in increasing numbers every day for two weeks before the woman caved.
"Maybe I'm just overreacting to this...all of this...it just seems so...different." Lianna voiced quietly, to find out after leading your entire life one way, that you could be part of, or even live in another, it was just one giant shock that really she hadn't become used to yet.

Abby pretended not to notice Lianna rubbing her eyes. "Well, it's good you get to see her," she said despondently. I only get to see my mom on the mantle. Abigail pushed the thought from her mind. She wanted to help Lianna, not force her own problems on the already overwhelmed Huffle.
"But, aren't you glad your a witch? I mean, once we get out of here, we won't have to swifter or use windex anymore!" Abby threw her arm around Lianna's shoulder and gave her a small squeeze. She forced a smile, and although it looked real, one could tell its falseness by looking at Abigail's eyes.

"I guess..." Lianna replied simply. Really, she hadn't seen her since right before the year started at the station, the last time they were all really together. Probably would be the last time for awhile...and all this was doing was making her miss home more. But the end of the year was coming, so, maybe there was still hope after all.
"I don't know if I'm glad or not...I guess this is just hard for me. I didn't grow up with this kind of lifestyle...I screamed when my first chocolate frog actually hopped off my lap...I can't help but wonder if I really belong here." Lianna replied, her voice slipping below even whispering levels. The one armed hug was a small reassurance that it would be ok, somehow, but, she couldn't believe such for the long run.

"Are you kidding me?" she asked. "You're the one who answers all the questions in DADA and Potions." She couldn't help but smile at the chocolate frog incident. The same thing had happened to her, though Abby went to the extent of trying to catch it and keeping it as a pet.
"Where's your home?" Lianna spent a lot of time talking about it, and Abigail was curious as to where exactly that was.

"They were also easy questions...well, sorta easy, and the DADA one was common sense..." Lianna replied with a small smile. She really had to think about the Potions questions, racked her brain across numerous answers that made no sense before coming to the one that did. DADA, that was just instinct., not even common sense.
"Manchester..." Lianna replied simply, really wantting tog et off the topic but at the same time knowing there wasn't much else to go to.

Lianna's short answers and the fact that she wasn't really adding much to the conversation tipped Abby off enough to let her know the other firstie didn't want to talk (about home or family, at least). Deciding to change topics, and not really trying to be subtle about it, Abigail tried to think of something else to say; however, she stopped suddenly and looked cautiously around her. It was dark, and only one torch was lit at the end of the corridor they were now in.
"Uh...Lianna?" she began hesitantly. "Where are we?" The part of the dungeons they were in did not look familiar to Abby at all, especially in the dark, and a swell of panic began to work its way up from the pit of the Huffle's stomach to her heart where a swarm of butterflies were now fluttering madly.

The intruding silence, that the other Huffle had expected to enter had stayed for far too long. Causing her to look up and around as well. Lianna had been so focused on the conversation (as disheartening as it was) that she had stopped memorizing where they were going. She remembered going straight but, after that, had they gone left, or right somewhere? This certainly didn't look like the same corridor.
"Umm ... I ... I ... ....don't know..." Lianna replied defeatedly. Lying wouldn'tve helped her here, as she was just as nervous about the whole situation as Abi was, how long was it till daylight?

Abigail stopped walking. She stood in the middle of the corridor staring at the torch at the end of the hall, her breathing becoming heavier and more rapid. It kind of sounded like she was about to hyperventilate. "What do you mean, you don't know?" She turned slowly to stare disbelievingly at the first year, fear and panic shining in her eyes and in her voice.

"I mean I don't know!" Lianna shot back, as though allt he nervousness she'd been keeping locked away all evening had been let out in a rush. Which, really it had. Her eyes darted up and down the corridor both infront of and behind them in a feeble attempt to recognize something familiar. Failure, apparently was an option, but she knew which way to not go, and that was forward.
But...what if they'd gone full circle and forward was the way back to the common room? This is too confusing....they need signs down here or something... Lianna thought glumly as she reluctently sat down on the cold dungeon surface to think.

Abigail was taken aback by Lianna's snap. Her frown deepened as she sunk down next to the first year, drawing her legs to her chest and resting her chin on her knees. "What are we going to do?" she asked in a very quiet, barely audible murmur--almost as if Abby was asking herself and not her friend. She bit down on her lower lip to keep her teeth from chattering and stared down at the cold, hard floor.
