This had been the class Raynor had been dreading since last term. Her own personal prejudices against the subject material was enough normally, but now she had more than herself she had to worry about emotionally damage. The boy... no, not boy anymore... young man, had said he could handle it, but Raynor knew the trauma this kind of thing could do to someone. It was why she had picked this line of work; all due to those curses. But now they would see. Raynor might feel reluctant about this lesson -- and those for a good half the year as well -- but she would never willingly show it. Not only for his sake, and that of the rest of the class, but for hers as well.
That was why she seemed so outwardly calm, perched atop one of the many desks in the room. Yes, desks. The Sixth Year group had not seen desks in ages, but there they were; wrapped around the room in as crooked of an oval that a rectangular room would allow. The Deputy was distracting herself with the amusement of how many would drop dead of the shock when they walked through the door. If it was only one or two, they could remain where they fell for the duration of the class, but if it was a dreadful many... it could create problems.
For the third time, the Professor touched a package propped next to her -- and drew her hand away again when there were consecutive squeaks from within. Yes, this was her most dreaded lesson. The others at least benefited the student populace, but this was just going to be a very sadistic show. One that she really didn't want to be the puppeteer to. But there you had it. They had to know. Even if she had considered not doing it. After all, with all the controversy out in the world right now -- she shoved the thought aside again. Codswallop. Her teaching was not going to change simply because a few members of the community frowned upon it. It was needed.
Letting out one last sigh, Raynor shifted her position slightly and waited for the sixth years to arrive. They were soon going to realize that a regular Defense Against the Dark Arts Class was a stroll in the park compared to the N.E.W.T.s.

At this wonderful institution of superior learning, Charlotte had expected to see some superior teaching and superior subjects. But her perspective on it was established after a few days: it was a bunch of dragon's dung. It all didn't add up to her standards, however muddled may be because in her past life she never even finished school. However, she would give this class a chance, if only to see what this teacher would have to say on the subject that Charlotte felt she knew so well.
Coming into the class, she had expected to see a usual set up of desks, loaded with boring books for lectures, and a boring professor to boot. But surprise arose as she saw everything in it's unique order. "Well, isn't that just a lovely stage," she said outloud, calling it a stage loosely. It could have been anything really. She looked to the professor, one she was sure had more authority than usual by her presence, but probably all the more ineffective and incompetent.

Nic walked in and laughed. "Yea! Desks! We can sit our butts down and not be worryin about calluses on our fine ladies feet." Nic walked up to Charlie and threw his arm around her shoulders. He hadn't seen her since last year. Even though they were in the same house he just didn't see her that much and she was one of his favorite females. And he braced for her punch, slap, something for him leaning on her. "Yo, how was your vaca sweet momma. I hadn't seen ya in ages. Blond?" Nic was still braced and waiting for the hit.

Yes! DADA was here. Tristan was excited for this class all the time now. He didn't wanna be late so he ran off to get there early. He left behind everyone else. Dropping some books a long the way and picking them back up. Something really had Tristan going but it wasn't sugar. He finally made it down the second floor to go ahead and walk through the class. He noticed some students walking by in the hallway and then he saw the class.
He walked in and saw everything he hadn't seen in a while. "Bloody hell, Professor. We have...." he said stopping. He couldn't even finish his last word. He looked around amazed. But he wasn't going to do nothing just yet. He just put up a weird expression.
Hmm... wonder what we are learning today he thought.

She would have really not wanted to have spoken to those coming in, and she was trying hard not to say another along those lines (or harsher), until this boy who had an arm around her commented on her hair. Now that was something she was glad to talk about it. She turned to him and smiled. "Yeah, blond. Do you like it?" She again fiddled with a little bit of it, and paid no attention to his arm on her. Charlie must have loved the attention she got from this boy.

Merlin, what did Tristan eat this morning? Jason asked himself as he ran to catch up with his friend. When the Gryffindor finally reached Raynor's class he was slightly out of breath but managed to catch it. "Desks?" Jason finished hearing Tristan's last statement. Alright so maybe a year away from Hogwarts gave him a small mindwipe about what they normally did in class. That wasn't surprising in Jason's case. Of course then he remembered that desks normally ment they were not going to have a practical lesson today. Great, he would get to fall asleep early today.

Nic blinked. Literally just looked at her and blinked. He stared at her hair and then at his arm. Is this really Charlie? She cares more about her hair than my arm? This isn't Charlie? Nic slowly removed his arm. "I'm sorry. Ya Charlie's twin or something. I know she gotsa big family. I'm Nicolae Torque and you is..." Nic was sure this wasn't Charlie. Charlie wasn't like this. She wouldn't care about her looks....would she?

Charlotte laughed delicately, hearing the same incredulity again and again. Everytime she wished Charlie had been a bit more refined in her character so Charlotte could really pull this off. "It's still me, Nic. But you can call me Charlotte now. I just decided a few things over the summer hols and I want to be a better person. A new person." She looked at him with her blue green eyes before replacing his arm over her shoulders. "Let's go sit somewhere. Or stand." She rolled her eyes at the set up. "Let's just get comfortable somehow."

Drew wasn't sure how he felt about going to class at the moment. While Defence was by far his best subject and, in his mind, Raynor was by far the only professor he trusted completely, he still wasn't sure he wanted to go. He had had enough of this particular subject over the last few months.
That thought aside, he knew he needed to go. No, it wasn't just his grade or his attendance record. He needed to be there and to see what had happened. If he ever had hopes of being an Auror, he had to sit through this class if none of the others.
He had actually expected the desks and entered the room silently. He really didn't think Raynor would be having them work in partners for this particular topic. He took a seat as close to the front as he could given the oval formation, smiling crookedly at the diminutive Professor as he passed her. I'm okay, it said to her. He thought she would want to know.

Hiro wasn't looking forward to this lesson or the rest of the year for that matter. After all his best friend had recently gone through one of these and though Hiro had tried to help as much as he could he wasn't the one with the memories of it. All Hiro could do was listen to the horrible stories he had heard, things he couldn't even imagine that his friend had suffered through. He had entered shortly after Drew not sure what this lesson would really entail.

"No, it's not desks. It's uh," he said trying to think. He then put his hand on chin and squinted his eyes thinking. Of course Tristan was just dramatic and was just excited to go to class again. Boy, if Keagan saw him acting like this. Pow! Right in the kisser. But of course, Keagan wouldn't do that to poor Tristan now would she? She's not even in this class so ha-ha.

Okay, so she had passed two subjects with an Outstanding. Dada and Potions, the Potion exam had been easy for Seanna and even though she struggled on some of the questions for the DADA exam, the practical bit she thought she had done rather well in, the practice she had done before the practical paying off in the end. But passing DADA had it advantage's and disadvantage's.
Seanna had heard the rumor's about what Professor Raynor taught them in their sixth year and if those rumors were correct, Seanna was willing to be taught them. After crossing Shaw that night in Diagon, Seanna knew the magical world wasn't a very safe place to be in.
Sitting herself down next to Drew, the Huffle girl bit her lip and gave her friend a small smile. Seanna debated sitting next to Drew, she hadn't yet told her friend that she had ran into Shaw that night and she wasn't sure that she was going to either. "Hey Drew" Fidgeting in her chair, Seanna came to the conclusion that this class probably wouldn't be the best way to tell Drew she had seen Shaw anyways, some things were better left as secrets.

Nic watched as Charlie, no Charlotte, had replaced his arm on her shoulder. Nic arched an eyebrow, but let his arm stay. "Charli...lette. I thought yo real name was Charlene? Where ya get Charlotte from?" Nic looked around and saw Drew and Hiro and Tristan entered. For some reason he desperately wanted to get away from this crazy Charlie. She was ... weird.
Then Nic being Nic had to push his luck. "So I see ya like a brotha's arm on ya shoulders Charl...ette. So what about a kiss?" That should do it. A punch in shoulder or better in the face. Something to jlet him know this was still the old Charlie and this was some weird joke. It had to be.

Strolling into defense against the dark arts class, Alexis didn't feel all too thrilled about the sight of desks. Well that was just great. For some reason the word notes was written all over this. The sixth year said a quick hello to Tristan but did a double take after seeing the person next to him. "Jason? Since when did you get back?" she exclaimed at the sight of the familiar Gryffindor. "I thought you moved away to France."

Charlotte was amused by the boy and his reactions. "Well, Nic, I changed from nickname to nickname. Charlotte just sounds better than Charlie or Charlene. It has a better ring to it..." She held onto his hand and laughed when he wanted a kiss. "Why not? Except since my boyfriend is right there--" she pointed to Hiro. "--this--" She kissed him on the cheek. "--will suffice." She winked at him as she went to leave him to see Drew and Hiro, but added in a whisper only meant for him. "For now." She winked again.
"Hey, guys," she said as she got close to Drew and Hiro, by they looked none too happy. Well, at least they tried to.
