If not for the fact that the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom was more spacious, more rectangular, and actually blessed with the presence of windows, one whom had been within the Deputy's office at least once would believe that the two rooms had tried to swap places.
Oh, the room still had desks -- all neatly fashioned in orderly columns and rows, broken down the middle so that an isle ran to the professors desk -- and the portraits of famous wizards and witches still lined the wall for sure. But, all of the mysterious gadgets of objects that lined the walls and shelves of the Professor's office now cluttered the room. Spread across her own desk, those of the students, and even in select clusters on the floor.
Professor Raynor herself was standing in front of what looked to be a mirror, except that it did not reflect the Deputy as a mirror usually would. Its surface was murky and clouded, swirling with what looked like shadows floating through the mist. What ever it was, it held her intrigue.

After spending a day of dreading classes, Drew slid on his heels into the Defence classroom, more excited than usual to be in his favorite class. Raynor was not usually big on reading things or writing stuff down and that suited him just fine.
So his face fell a little when he saw the desks. Defence was usually an active class and desks only could mean a lecture. And lectures usually meant notes and book work.
His wide grin returned though, when he realized what else was in the room. He knew those gadgets fairly well and figured they might get a chance to actually try some of them out.
"You don't see me in that thing, do you?" he asked as he took a seat in front, a little worried, but mostly joking.

Nic walked into the classroom after Drew. He heard Drew's question and stared at the Prof. She seemed lost in thought or whatever. Or maybe she was marvelling at the fact that she didn't retain any baby fat and was skinny as ever...Nic sure was marvelling at that fact right now. "Dawg, I don't even see her. What kind of a messed up mirror is that?"

If it had been an actual mirror, Raynor would have been grumbling rather than marveling. While to another eye it might appear she had completely recovered from pregnancy, she saw far too much bulk hanging around her hips and torso. It was less than a centimeter, yes, but it was still flab that had not been there before.
At the sound of an all-too-familiar voice Raynor's eyes snapped away from the 'mirror' and focused on the tall Ravenclaw positioned at the forefront of her classroom. A small smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she arched an eyebrow at him.
"See you in it, Mr. Thornton? If only. Then I might get a bit of forewarning before you knock down my office door," she responded.
Ah, yes, a classic Torque moment. She never would fully understand the terms he used. Jack Montesquieu had been easier to interpret. Ignoring the use of dogs, she took the rest of the comment for what it was.
"A very special one, Mr. Torque."

"Knock? Since when do I knock?" Drew answered, grinning at the response and quite pleased with the answer. At the same time, he couldn't help wondering who she would see.
At Nic's question he lowered his voice, ready for the tease. "Didn't you know, dude?" he asked in a stage whisper just loud enough so that the professor could still hear. "She's a vampire..." He made a face and shook his head, making it clear this wasn't something that should be talked about in public.

Nic was going to ask another question to Prof. Raynor especially since her comment was so vauge, but then Drew answered it for him. He was still confused about the mirror, but this new tid bit of information was much more interesting. "Whoa! Ya saying she's a blood sucka?! So that's why she's so skinny and pale. Ya know I never once saw her outside ya know in broad daylight, tho I've heard some of dem vamps could be day walkers. Ya know like Blade! Whoa! so is that baby's daddy a vamp too?"
Nic wasn't sure if Prof. G and Prof. R were married or not. He just figured Prof. G knocked her up.

All she knew today was that she had to be there, like every other day. It could grow to be a frustrating feeling, that feeling of an endless routine of classes. But she didn't feel so bothered then as she entered the class. And as she did, she had an almost elated sensation of coming it. The feelings between satisfaction and craziness was becoming to be a thin line. "Cool mirror."

Sakuya entered the room with a bit of hesitation, looking around with wide eyes at the many gizmos and gadgets that surrounded the room. She recognized a few from her Defence of the Dark Arts textbook but couldn't recall some of the items. She tugged on her Gryffindor robe uncomfortable, not really used to wearing a uniform.
She walked towards an empty desk to the left side of where the isle lead to the Professor's desk. She placed her things atop of the desk and waved in greeting to the professor,
"Hello..." she said simply before watching with interest at the swirling shapes, shadowy figures and swirling clouds that hid inside the mirror.

Alexis took her time going to defence against the dark arts class since she really wasn't in the mood to go to another class that day. "If ve must go through a lecture today, I might just die.'' she thought miserably as she approched the door. And of course, upon her entry what does she find? Desks. "Oh great..." she muttered. Looking around, Alexis saw a mirror that some people already there had an interset in. "Vat are ve doing vith that?"

"Hey peeps," he greeted as he enterted. At first, he didn't know what was going on until he actually was looking. He didn't know what to say but the only thing he was going to have to do was to stand back. Which he did stepped back five steps. However, he couldn't remember what he was stepping back for. He then just froze not knowing what to do. All he could do was grin and just wait.

Hiro entered the room to a bit of a suprise. His cane had bumped into something. He had enough school experience to know when his cane tapped into a desk but what were they doing in the DADA classroom?
"So I take it we're not going to be dueling today?" Hiro asked the general crowd.

"We're messing with a mirror," Charlie replied to the question thrown out by Hiro. She couldn't stop staring at it, really. It felt odd that she couldn't see her reflection, even though she knew what the mirror was. "A Foe Glass," she added nonchalantly, forgetting to remember if her label was right or wrong.

"Dark detectors," Drew told Hiro, finding the gentle whirring of the Sneakoscopes to be much more interesting than the absense of reflections in the Foe Glass. Okay, so it was good to know Raynor didn't have any enemies in the class, but it was also kind of intriguing to see he and his classmates couldn't be totally trusted.
And yes, he readily lumped himself into that bunch.

Well, if one thing, the fifth year class never ceased to amuse her. Catching the-whisper-that-was-not, the edges of her lips quirked upward and she chuckled at Nic's comment. Though she watched the boy carefully. While she knew Drew's comments were common banter, the Slytherin boy ... well ... she sometimes wondered if anything was upstairs at times. Especially with all of this 'daywalkers' and 'blade business'. Was not a blade a slang term for a knife? She knew that much and could not see how it related. "Hmm, yes Mr. Torque, a Vampire. And if you do not speak carefully, one that will be after your blood." She would joke with the students, but there was still the boundary of friendly jesting and being disrespectful. A line that she did not tolerate being crossed. But no, a fifteen/sixteen year old boy was not enough to appear in such a mirror, even if it would be handy. But as the discussion went on and more students joined the class, the 'mirror' seemed to remain the forefront of their interests. Then the Professor blinked. Charlie had spoken out in her class and got something right ... again. "That is very correct, Mr. Thornton, Miss Jones, ten points to both your houses. Today we are indeed going to be working with Dark Detectors and yes, the object before me if called a Foe Glass. What does it do? If you do not know all ready, today you will figure it out." With that, she waved a hand at the door. It promptly snapped shut. "In this room, there are a number of dark detectors. Some of which have been disabled as they are very noisy. Today you are to try and figure out what each of these detectors do and how they work. In some cases, that might mean having to figure out how to re-able them. You may work in pairs if you wish, but you cannot use any text books or written material and you may only consult me once. You're O.W.L.s are fast approaching and we have not covered this material and it will most certainly be on there. I find the best way to learn is to learn it yourself." This was among her more favorite lessons. It actually made the students think. And, from what past O.W.L.s proved, they did seem to remember it better when they had to actually do it on their own. "I want notes on what you believe each detector is and its purpose, as well as a diagram of the object, on my desk by the end of week. Happy findings. You have two hours.” Which also meant that if they couldn't figure it out, they could at least draw the object and figure it out before Friday. (( If you need help, some items that might be in the room, but feel free to become creative: Foe Glass[note: currently bewitched to reveal to the person looking in, not owner for sake of project], Probity Probe, Secrecy Sensor, Sneakoscope, Invisibility Cloak, Instant Darkness Powder [in a magically contained area, will not spread all over room], Shield Cloaks, and shield hats. ))

Jade entered the classroom and stopped, staring at the big swirly thing. She tilted her head one way, then the other way, watching the gray swirls. She was entranced. She put her books down blindly on a desk and walked slowly toward the mirror. "What is it?" she whispered, her hand extended, half wanting to touch it.
