Up until now, the First Years had been bored to death in Defense Against the Dark Arts. They had shoveled through boring books about the Dark Arts and Dark Creatures and had handed in a million and one little essays while they heard tales of dueling and bizarre experiments from their older associates. Well then, today was the day of change.
Previous visits to the Defense classroom had lead to baffled eyes landing drudgingly on rows and columns of perfectly formed desks. So perfect that one might believe it was a picture instead of the real thing. Oh, how the mind could hope. But no longer.
When the first years walked through the threshold this time, they would not so much as find a sliver of wood from a chair. No desks, no tables, not even fluffy pillows that the fifth years usually got to toss at each other. Nothing. Just the usual presence of famous Wizard and Witches -- both good and 'evil' -- and that of the Professor standing in the middle of the room, arms crossed and apparently trying to stare the door down.
Just what did she have up her sleeve?

Nathan was sick. Sick and tired of writing stupid essays for a subject for all they did was listen to some 'old' lady tell stories of other old people and their problems that was. Shrugging into the classroom, the husky-built eleven year old almost gasped in amazement. Why, the floor was so empty (and clear for that matter), they could skate on it. The firstie would have attempted it if the professor staring straight at him (the door, but he didn’t know that) gave him the chills.
Her very stare seemed to penetrate deeper within him each second and that scared him. Perhaps if it were Sir. Marvin (it sounded much better then Professor; and in Nathan’s mind, his quirkiness didn’t deserve Professor), he would have just laughed it off. Even if it were 6’4” librarian that seemed to attract all the attention wouldn’t have intimidated him much. No. Ms. (or Mrs.) 5-foot-nothing; a mere three inches taller than this firstie scared him most of all. He secretly wondered if she tried to scare her students on purpose. Quite frankly, he wouldn’t be too surprised.
Shrugging his shoulders, the cherub firstie walked into the class, giving a small, frightened, ‘Good Day Miss.’ Before sitting on the floor in front of her. He couldn’t live without chairs…

Conner had led the way to this classroom, after asking directions from an older student on just hot exactly to get to this classroom, and being given a qiute very dodgy hand drawn map, he thought he had a pretty good sence of direction on how to get to the class and infact luckily he had managed it. He grinned proudly as they reached the open classroom and looked inside. That was until he looked around and noticed no desks or chairs were present. Did he go to the wrong place? Conner looked at his sister whos hand was clasped in his own as usual and bit his bottum lip forming a look of slight worry.
But there was another student in the room, and he looked small and young. Maybe they had found the right place. He didn't recognise the boy, but being new he tended not to recognise anyone just yet. Shutting his eyes for a moment and taking a deep breath in Conner moved forwards into the classroom, his hand still holding his sisters. He moved over near the other boy and sat down in front of the woman. She didn't seem very nice, infact, she scared him quite a very lot. "Hello" he said quietly to the other boy.

Kyle actually gave a frightened little yelp when he caught the professor's eyes staring at him. Of course, he couldn't tell if she's really staring at him, or why she was. But that look alone was enough for the boy to want out of this class.
He edged along the wall and tried to stay as far away from the intimidating lady as possible. Perhaps they were all going to learn how to stare like that. Perhaps that's the best way to defend themselves against any possible dark creatures. Oh yeah, just stare and scare them away.

Artemis wandered into the calls he had mostly remaind silent and kept his head pointed at the ground though he was aware anyone could tell something was weighing on his mind. He noted there weren't any chairs or desks so he just leaned his back against the wall letting his bag fall to the ground.

The only thought running through his head at this point was similar to Nathan's- I'm sick of classes! DADA had not only been worse than History of Magic so far, it forced Haru to touch those wretched text books- even out of class. It was obsurd to him and he even owled his father about it- the entire letter full of complaints about his Defense Against the Dark Art's class. Dante- being the caring father he was- had been very upset at this fact and promised that he wouldn't let this persist, but the man was only lying to cheer his son up.
As he entered through the tall, wooden doors he caught sight of the Headmistress who obviously scared all the other first years (except Artemis- oh man, he'd pee in his pants with joy if he found out that Arty was scared of any professor.) Though Raynor didn't scare him, she actually came off as sort of strange. What's her problem? he thought, scrunching his face a little, to show that he thought she was weird.
The snake took a seat next to Nathan and gave him a small grin, " Is she a crazy teacher?"

After the lessons being in the same spot all year Sarsha now ad absolutely no problem what-so-ever of finding the defence against the dark arts classroom and she was very proud of herself because of it. She was able to dodge the trick steps and avoid the tricky walls, ignor the misleading paintings and even hide from Peeves when she heard him coming. So today's trip was just as uneventful as her last trip had been.
Sarsha came into the classroom with a slight bound in her step. That was until she noticed the professors eyes stairing at her. She stopped suddenly. Glanced behind her. Turned back to look and still the womans eyes were on her. Sarsha then jumped quickly sideways to avoid the womans stare. It worked like a charm. Sarsha smiled once more and then noticed Kyle which made her smile even more. Sarsha moved over next to Kyle and gave him a smile. "Hello" she said quietly to him.

Kyle was standing so close to the wall as if he's trying to push himself into the wall. Really, being part of the wall might be boring, but at least, perhaps then he wouldn't be so afraid of Professor Raynor.
"Sar, I think one of us should get sick real soon so we can leave the room," he whispered back to her and tried not to move lips much. Anything, he might be willing to take a couple of Nosebleed Nougat just so he could get out of class.

In reality, the Professor had not meant to set the first years on the tips of their toes. Many contemplations were rolling around in her head, including Fiona's persistence of locking herself up in her office. Half the student populace did not even know what she looked like any more. The baby had a slight cold. And, well, Ravenclaw would always keep her awake, though nothing too out of the ordinary of late.
Such intense wheels working her brain had actually lead to a subconscious tightening around her eyes and lips; and while others tended to space out when lost in thought, she concentrated on a particular spot. It was woe to the students that it had been the door.
Stirred by the soft whispers going around the room, the statue that had been trying to pass as the Deputy sprung to life. To one not privy to her thoughts it would appear that she came out of a bad mood at an impeccable rate.
"Welcome back, First Years, to Defense Against the Dark Arts. Hope your winter holidays were bearable; not too many pinched cheeks." Was that actual humor? Something had to be up. "Please place everything but your wand somewhere along the wall, you will not be needing anything else. Then quickly find a partner."

Mornings were always quite long. They dragged on by like worms trying to reach the other side of the sidewalk- slow. Chase yawned to herself as she grabbed hold to Artemis- claiming him as her partner. She smiled to him, "Have a nice sleep last night, Bun Bun?" she asked and searched her pockets for her wand...
Nothing... where is my wand?! She gulped and rummaged through her bag- again, nothing. The girl gasped as she remembered what had happened. Calister... she growled through her breath. That boy had stolen her wnad from her during break, and she had completely forgotten about it. Chase moaned and raised her hand into the air.
" Professor, Ty Calister stole me wand." she said very bluntly.

Partners! Haru swished his head to Nathan. He really had been the only nice one at the school so far... it was sort od depressing- I mean, why wouldn't anyone like someone so... humble, intelligent, generous, nice, funny, handsome- it didn't make any sense whatsoever. The boy grinned to him, and announced to the classroom, " I'm with Nathan!"
He set his books away and flicked out his wand. " I'm really good with magic, so I'm sure we'll have this down."
(( omg. Haru is so conceited. I love him ;D))

Sarsha wasn't too sure about Kyle's idea about getting really sick and leaving a lesson. What if they got caught? Luckily Professor Raynor snapped out of her grumpy face and greeted the first years, perhaps even with hurmous. Sarsha eyed the woman curiously slightly scared of what she may have in store for them. When she said sit everything apart from their wands against the walls and choose a partner Sarsha removed her pink backpack from her back.
"Wanna be my partner?" she asked Kyle as she pulled her wand from her bag. She was very proud of that wand. It was brand new after her old one had been stolen and she was very happy to have it. She felt bad for the other girl who declaired that someone had stolen her wand, but then, at least that girl knew exactly who had stolen it.

Partners? That was just great. It wasn't that she didn't want a partner, it was just finding one that was the problem because if you didn't get one fast, then you are stuck with the professor possibly. Flora digged through the pockets of her robes until she finally managed to find her wand before getting into trouble for not having one. "Now to see who gets to go with me." she muttered looking around the room.

Kyle's antenna snapped to attention (that's to say if he had any antenna or attention) at the news. Someone else lost her wand too? The two events had just got to be connected.
"What do you think?" he whispered to Sar, not answering on the partner part. Of course they would be partners, because in his mind, that was what was right. He was so cursious about the wand incident to even notice Sar's pick backpack. "Perhaps Ty pretened to be a girl that time and stole your wand?"
