As soon as Charlie bolted off back into the classroom, Alexis took off after her. The last thing she needed was to be punished by Raynor. Besides, she never meantioned what would happen if they didn't make it to the classroom and Alexis didn't feel like finding out. Sliding inside, Alexis almost sat on air when she realized that there were no chairs to sit in. Well, at least she was now in the classroom.

Surprised and slightly relieved, Jade followed the others into the classroom, setting down her things and crouching down to rummage in her bag for her book. She didn't think she'd need it, but just wanted to be safe. She pulled her long curls up into a ponytail, getting it out of the way in case they did practical stuff.

"Two." There was no need to reach three. The class in the hallway was not gathered inside the classroom, giving another shake of her head, the Deputy followed them in, the door of the room closing behind her.
"I believe Mr. Hailey covered Defensive Charges with all of you fairly well. In the six weeks that I was gone, he informed me that each of you had at least begun to master the skill, successfully deflecting pillows that were thrown at you. If you are still having trouble, feel free to set a date up with me and we can continue working on that," she offered the class.
All the portraits had gone back to minding their own business it seemed. All for the better. "Today we are going to leave Defensive Charges and take a step up. Does anyone know what Hex-Deflection is?"

What luck after such an unlucky time! Charlie thought she knew the answer. Yes, very certain of it. It was a glorious moment, raising her hand, though an awkward one. She didn't remember the last time she participated in Raynor's class (save the whole teaching-as-Raynor mess), but she was going to grab that gimme if she could.
"Dude! I know! Hex-Deflection's... uh..." She just wasn't used to explaining things in class. "Yeah. It's, like, these groups of spells to help protect the caster from hexes." That sounded good enough. At least she's what she thought she read in her textbook.

Hiro, who had remained quiet while sitting with the boys, actually wanted to have class elsewhere, like outside. There wasn't going to be many nice days left before the winter season comes in. Though with Raynor's count down he wasn't going to suggest it to her. Though no matter where the lesson was he was looking forward to it.

Jake had just slipped into the class before Professor Raynoe said the word ' Two '. He looked around and saw that the desks and furniture had been removed and shrugged. Taking a seat on the floor, Jake turned back to the Professor. Hex deflection? Jake grew confused for a second, then remembered that he was in Defense... His classes seemed all mixed together in his mind so he thought that he was in his charms class... Stupid mistake.. He thought to himself with an amused look.

"A few of the really good hex-deflectors will bounce the spell right back at the caster. Excellent strategy in a duel," Drew added with a grin. While he was rather good at hexes and jinxes, it was Allegra who showed him the benifit of a good reflexive spell. "Of course, they won't do much good against something major like an Unforgivable, but for the basic jinxes and hexes, they work really well."

A few fluttering eyelashes, even the portraits had offered a few gaping jaws in honor of Charlie Jones. The only time the girl had ever spoken out in her class was... well, when she had something derogatory to say to another student and when she had 'subbed' for the Deputy. And now, for the first time in five years... she was answering a question. And it was a willing reply at that.
Perhaps she had switched bodies again... not anyone such as Allegra for sure -- that answer was very much wrong -- but the foundation was right. But a switch was the most undiscerning answer.
"Great attempt Miss... Jones. Fiv-- ten points to Slytherin for the effort." If it was really Charlie behind those eyes, she was going to encourage this. "And correct Mr. Thornton, five points to Ravenclaw.
"Hex Deflection, in essence, is just a build-off of our Defensive Charges. However, a Defensive Charge can only be used with non-magical origins, while Hex Deflection is an actual defensive tool used to repel -- as Mr. Thornton put it -- minor hexes and curses. Its not precisely a groups of spells as much as it is a giant shield that you don't need an incantation for and blocks more than one spell at once. But yes, minor spells. And like Defensive Charges, it is very risky, it doesn't often work as it requires a fair deal of concentration. But it is handy."
A few moments to catch her breath.
"Questions?"

Drew had a question... and an important one at that. And a question of this magnitude deserved a rare raising of his hand.
"I have a question. How come she got ten points for a wrong answer and I only got five for a right one?" he asked, squinting up at her. Sure, he wasn't in class to get the points, and yeah, he was glad Jones got herself a few, but really, it seemed just plain backwards to him.

"Here's a question for you, Thornton: Why are ya so bothered by that?" Charlie said with a slight smirk at him. She was internally excited for the points, and whatever bone Raynor was throwing, Charlie was going to get. She made sure to try to make more questions and answers next time. Who knew getting points would be fun?

"I'm just asking!" Drew answered innocently, knowing darn well if the situation had been reversed, she would have questioned it too. It wasn't like he was trying to take points away from Charlie, but heck... if slacking off for four years and giving half-answers got you double credit, maybe he'd start giving that a try.

"Alriiight," Charlie said as she held her hands up in surrender, as if to say, "Yeah, right.I believe you." Even her expression had a sliver of sarcasm in it. "Thanks, by the way, Prof Raynor." She grinned up at the professor, but only to slighty irritate Drew. She entertained the idea of taking Drew's coveted spot as the teacher's pet.

(( -coughs- a clerical error on the writers account actually, but I can make this work. )) "Last time I checked, Mr. Thornton, a Professor did not have to explain their reasonings of point giving privileges. If you feel persistent in arguing however, I can most certainly take the five points back. The same with the ones I gave you, Miss Jones." She added, or more like snapped as the girl became cocky about the situation. Yes, she wanted to encourage Charlie to take some interest in her studies while she was showing it, points would certainly do that, but nor was she going to have her parading over one of the best students in the class. "If there are no questions on the course material, we are moving on. Mr. Thornton, if you still have concerns, you can speak to me after class. Everyone pair up, pair up mind. For those with a duller vocabulary that means partners of two. Hop to it now."

Drew sat back with a small snort, not planning on arguing the matter, but definitely planning on discussing the injustices of the day with the professor after class. Why the heck couldn't she be like all of the other Heads and actually favor her own house?
He looked around trying to figure out who he could partner with. Of course, Alhana was the obvious choice, but he tended to go easy on her. Even though he knew she hated it, he couldn't help it.

Jade looked around, wondering who she could pair up with. She wasn't super close friends with anyone in the class, which was good and bad. it was good because then there was no chance either her partner or she would go easy on the other, but it was bad because then she had no automatic partner. She sighed.
