Roxanne...had never taught Defence Against The Dark Arts before.
She had, of course, volunteered to take over the class as she seemed to be one of the only professors that had that class period free. Roxanne taught charms; it couldn't really be that much different in DADA, though, as you technically used the charms to defend yourself. It was going to be basically like one large defence charms class...possibly.
As she walked at a brisk pace down the hallways and stairs, she glanced down to the papers Tamis had left her on it. Everything seemed to be in order, and she was feeling slightly more confident as she made her way off of the fourth and onto the third floor, heading for the second. If she hadn't been reminded where the classroom was in the first place, she would have been lost for a while, best case scenerio.
As she stepped off the last step and onto the second floor, she made her way over to the DADA classroom. The door was open, so she walked into the empty classroom and set her things down. It was a lot different than her classroom...Merlin, it was organized. A few things were out of place here and there, but when substitues basically took over a class that was to be expected.
Roxanne leaned against the desk, eager for the students' arrival.

Mike slowly turned the corner and walked down the hallway towards Defence against the Dark Arts, one of his favourite classes, but he had heard rumors that Raynor wasn't teaching them at the moment, so he didn't really know who to expect to be teaching them.
His shoes making almost no noise as they came into contact with the stone floor, time after time, no noise, and the hallway was suprisingly empty.
Strange
Mike thought to himself as he got closer and closer to the classroom, he really didn't know what to expect from this year. He slung his bag off his shoulder as he entered the classroom and looked up and saw none other than his Head of House.
"Mornin Professor Ashford"
He said giving her a slight respectful bow, a habit which he had picked up while in Japan a while back.
"So they roped you in to teach for Professor Raynor eh?"
He asked her as he placed his bag on a desk

"I thought Hailey was teaching DADA this week," Arianna commented as she entered the room, a slight look of confusion on her face. He had shoved some of the kids out of the library earlier that day saying that was what he was doing. Arianna had been looking forward to seeing how the librarian/former Runes teacher would handle DADA.

Natalie Bane was the next to enter the room and it was a shame that there were no other Slytherins here. She didn't let that bother her, especially since she wasn't extremely attached to many of them anyway.
She carried her satchel with her books, parchment, quills, and ink well and sat at a desk towards the front. She threw her hair over her shoulder and turned around glancing at the door casually, hoping to see someone else enter soon.. Although that wasn't likely to matter either.
She let a smile slip faintly on her features and turned back around towards the front. Ridiculous.. to teach defense of but not the dark arts themselves. She repressed a sigh and waited for something to happen or begin.

Krissy came wandering into the defence of the dark arts classroom. She was looking foreward to this class. That is, until she noticed who was teaching today. "What are you doing here?" she demanded before thinking, a disgrunteled look on her face. She hated the woman. Plain and simple. She liked Raynor, she was a great professor, but this woman, Krissy didn't like. She knew Raynor had an awefully good reason to not be teaching today and she wasn't going to hold it against her, in fact she would have encouraged her absence, but couldn't they find a better substitute than her.
Krissy scowled at the woman, her mind switching between two things, taking a seat or walking out. She could always get Ari or someone to give her the notes on what they learnt that day.She didn't want to stay in the room with her. Krissy decided that for the moment, she would stay. But if anything happened she would be out of that classroom before the woman would have time to object.
She moved towards the back of the room. Taking a place right in the back row, as far away as she could possibly get from the woman, and then she placed her bag on the desk in front of her.

Nessa entered the Defense Against the Dark Arts class, eager to start. This was one of her favourite classes, and she really wanted to impress her new professor. When Nessa looked up, she saw a woman standing there. She assumed it was the professor, so she smiled at her and went to find a seat. She saw Krissy across the room and smiled at her, waving. Nessa sat down next to her and dropped her bag. "Hiya, Kris!" she said.

Krissy still had a scowl on her face as Nessa sat down next to her. Being called Kris did not help her mood one bit. She hated the name. Absolutely. And her little sister had alot of fun calling her it just to irritate the hell out of her. "Call me Kris again... and I'll gut ya" Krissy said to Nessa with a small smile. She may have said it jokingly, but it didn't mean she didn't mean it. She really disliked the name. But Nessa wasn't to know that which is why she had responded jokingly and hadn't just bit Nessa's head off.
Her scowl returned to her face as she looked to the front of the class once more. Although it was Raynors room, Raynor wasn't around. Krissy pulled out a piece of Parchment and folded it into a paper plane. Absent mindedly then proceeding to throw it towards the front of the room. She didn't aim it anywhere but she hoped it hit Roxanna, cause that would be an added bonus.

Roxanne nodded her head in greeting to the students as they entered the classroom, whole heartedly ignoring Krissy. She had very good reason to, and to her that was the end of the matter. If she was going to end up striking out and causing problems, there was probably a nice comfy seat waiting for her at the Headmistress' office.
"Actually, he won't be. He already had other DADA classes to teach, on top of being librarian and such...and this is my free period. They thought it better if I took it over.." she smiled briefly to Arianna, before shifting through the notes she had been left.
More students began to file in the room, and she could only assume that she needed to start soon. Moving some of the Charms material she had accidently brought down with her off of the remainder of notes, she absent mindedly reached up with her wand, casting a charm which completely set the paper airplane up in a flame. She didn't need to turn her eyes up on the perprotrator; it was obvious who it was, and she deserved absolutely no attention from Roxanne. Strike Two.
"Alright" she began. "The notes Professor Raynor left me say that we're starting the Unforgivable curses today. Can anyone tell me why unforgivable curses are unforgivable? Or, perhaps, can someone name them?"

Mike rose his hand, at least this class had gotten off to a smoother start than all his other classes.
"Unforgivable curses are known as unforgivable because they land the person whom cast them in Azkaban, also they cause alot of pain and suffering to the people whom they are cast on.....well apart from the Avada Kedavra, which is swift and painless....apparently, the other two curses are the Cruciatus Curse and the Imperius Curse"
He said before lowering his hand with a slight smile on his face......what did she take them for.....fourth years?

Gail had been slouching in the back of the room. She liked Professor Ashford, but Raynor was her favorite teacher. She was slightly disappointed that she was absent. Her ink pot was open and quill inked, but it was sitting flat on her parchment, creating a lovely, large blot.
However, she sat up very straight when Ashford mentioned the Unforgivable Curses. She knew what they were, beyond question. She had come upon them in a book summer before last and asked her father about them. A window pane had cracked after that conversation.
A Hufflepuff boy listed the three curses with a smug look on his face. Gail frowned. These curses were not something to smile about. He may be a nice boy, but she decided to take him down a notch.
"There's more to it than that, though." She did not bother to raise her hand. All eyes seemed on her, and she twitched a little before continuing."The words themselves don't make it work. There's emotion behind it. To a certain extent, they're the opposite of a Patronus." Her voice was strong, but her face impassive.
