Milo walked timidly into the library, just poking his head around the corner enough to see in the place before he entered. There wasn't anyone around that he could see except for a few older students off in the corner. Then again, everyone was older compared to Milo. The tiny new Gryffindor walked quietly into the library and made a beeline for a shelf.
Quidditch Through the Ages, Quong Po: A Biography...nothing too exciting to choose from, Milo found. He strolled silently along the aisle, his shoes making the only noise in the entire place. It was creepy in here, Milo decided. He was going to make it a point to not come in here unless he needed to. Still, he was in there now and needed something to do, so he moved on to the next row of books.
Potter: A True Story. Hmm, that one seemed interesting. Pulling the huge book off the shelf, Milo flipped it open and read the first part of the first page.
Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, was born on July 31st...
Milo gave up. Too much reading. Putting it back, he continued his journey, hoping for something to stand out and grab his attention. As he walked, Milo heard another sound that he was sure he hadn't made. A thud, and then what sounded like paper fluttering. Turning around, Milo saw a book that had fallen off the shelf and flip open. He walked back to pick it up, but the book had propped itself up on the open pages and began scurrying away. Stunned, Milo just watched it as it moved away from him. "Cool," he muttered finally, and walked quickly after the book to see where it was going.

Harper had been walking down an aisle of books when she heard random noises coming from the other side. She ignored the noises that sounded like sneakers scratching on the library floor and pages of a book turning. In a library like this, any book was possible to find- a book with many talents, strange or neat. She sighed and continued to walk down the aisle, running her small index finger across the dusty books as she went. Just as she approached a blank spot in the shelf where a book had been, she heard a boy's voice. Harper peeked through the hole and saw a first year that she recognized from the sorting ceremony.
Harper raised a small red eyebrow as she watched pages from the book start to walk, and the boy watch in amazement. The Ravenclaw first year crossed her small, freckled arms as her blue eyes stared through the hole in the book shelf where the book had previously sat, untouched. She licked her lips, before deciding to round the corner of the shelf and introduce herself, in case he had caught her taking looks at him when she was on the opposite side. She walked a bit and soon ended up in front of the Gryffindor boy. Harper uncrossed her arms, and instead, put her hands inside her blue jean pockets.
She tilted her head and looked down at the book, then back up at the boy, "Pretty interesting stuff, huh?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. Harper followed him down the aisle of books. He, obviously, was following the book that was running away, making soft, crunching noises of paper as it did.

"Get back here, you little bugger!" Milo muttered as he followed the book. He reached out to grab it, but it slipped from his hands and continued on. Milo landed flat on his stomach and continued to crawl after the book. That was until he heard a soft voice behind him and he froze. The book scampered off, turned as if it was looking at Milo, and then hurried around the corner. Rolling over, Milo's eyes looked up to see a girl standing there.
In a panic, the Gryffindor scrambled to stand up, swaggering as he did and knocking into one of the shelves. Luckily, the shelf only wavered, but didn't topple over. Once he'd finally gotten his footing, Milo shoved his hands into his pockets and looked down, feeling his cheeks flush red. Oh dear.
"Yeah," Milo said quietly, "Interesting." He had barely gotten the words right because there was an entirely different thought going on in his head. Oh my, God! A girl! OK, calm down. It's alright. Just...don't say anything stupid. "I'm Milo," the young Gryffindor introduced himself with a smile, "Milo Cullen."

Harper brought a hand up to her face and pushed a few stranded red bangs out of her blue-green eyes so the boy was visible better in her view, and her eyes were visible in his. She smiled widely, showing the boy her pearly white teeth that were as straight as an arrow. Harper rocked lightly on her heels as she waited for him to scramble up and winced as the shelf wobbled slightly. Her eyes turned a lighter shade of blue as a laugh escaped her soft lips. She licked them, and neared the boy a bit more, so that she was now a couple feet away from him instead of several.
"Nice to meet you Milo Cullen," she said with a slight giggle, "I'm Harper, Harper Riley. Now I have a question for you, Mister. Are you normally in the library chasing random books that decide to scurry away?" she asked in a playful tone. She tried not to giggle, but the site of him flopping on his stomach and still crawling after the book made her giggle, and it rose from her throat at ease. It was only a soft giggle, but she was sure that Milo could tell that she was laughing at him. The girl's cheeks turned a light shade of rosy red as she looked him. He had freckles too, and blue eyes. At least she wasn't the only one. Harper realized that she was looking closely at his face and blushed a bit more, seeing as he was doing the exact same.

A chuckle escaped Milo, but it was more of a nervous laugh than a real one. He was still trying to get over the initial shock that was a girl talking to him. Milo was always shy when he met new people, but he was especially shy (and especially clumsy) when he was around girls he didn't know. It didn't help at all that she was cute too. This just spelled disaster for the poor Gryffindor.
"Nice to meet you, Harper," Milo replied with a shy smile, "And uh...no. It's all new to me. Never chased a book in my life. Certainly is a strange place, this castle. A suit of armour nearly took my head off earlier." Milo realized that he was rambling, and he decided it was a good time to stop talking before Harper thought he was nuts. His pink cheeks only got pinker and he shuffled his feet slightly before looking up again.

Harper giggled softly, bringing her fragile little hands to her face and covering her mouth. She relaxed her hands in front of her, at her waist, crossing her arms, and grasping onto her belt loops. It sure was an odd way to stand, and wasn't all that comfortable neither. She realized this quickly, and was soon shoving her hands back into her jean pockets yet again. Harper's cheeks turned pink. Milo was a neat name. Harper, being a bit more mature than your average eleven year old, had realized that boys didn't have cooties, but they were adorable, and fun to be around. She was too young to 'fall in love', but knew what it was, and liked to spend time with people that she 'loved'. She smiled at the boy, flashing him her white teeth yet again.
"Hm, well, I thought it was your everyday hobby," she said with a smile, "I mean, you were just like a professional at it!" Harper giggled a little bit, and shuffled her feet, looking down before looking back up, "Yeah, the castle is pretty strange. Being a first year has its downs, but its fun, meeting new people. Have you seen the statue at the Ravenclaw common room?" she asked, raising an eyebrow, "Stoney is his name and he likes to throw punches at all kinds of students, mainly first years," she said, nodding. Harper opened her mouth to speak again but stopped, realizing that she had been rambling as well. Oh boy, this was great. Here she was running her mouth off like mad, this cute boy probably thought she was some crazy kid. She sighed, feeling her cheeks heat up and get red. Great, now he would know that she was embarrassed and thought he was cute!

If it was at all possible, Milo was pretty sure his cheeks had turned an even deeper shade of pink. He took note of her blush as well and couldn't help the grin that wanted to dance across his lips. He wished his cheeks would stop betraying him and he could just look normal, but that didn't seem to be an option right now. And when Harper complimented him on his book-chasing skills, Milo let out a burst of giggles, but quieted himself quickly. "Beginner's luck I suppose," Milo joked, flashing her a friendly smile.
His hands were shoved back into his pockets and the Gryffindor started to rock back and forth on the balls of his feet slightly. He hadn't seen this 'Stoney' creature yet and made a mental note to stay away. It didn't appeal to him to have his head bashed in by a statue. "He sure sounds like a happy creature," chuckled the young Lion, "I'll be sure to walk on the opposite side of the corridor if I have to pass him. It really freaks me out how many things here can just come to life, such as that runaway book." Milo was quiet for a moment and he heard it flopping down the next aisle.
Kneeling on the floor, Milo watched through the space between the top of the books and the next shelf to see if the book flopped past. The book flopped happily down the aisle and Milo stared at it with a raised eyebrow. The book stopped suddenly and turned again, as if it was watching Milo like it had before. The book suddenly attacked the shelf and Milo jumped back, crashing into the shelf behind him once again. This time, he wasn't so lucky. A few books from above him dropped down, one of them landing on his head. He was lucky it was only a small book.
"Ouch," Milo mumbled, rubbing his head slightly, "Ruddy books. Can you help me with this?" He turned his attention back to Harper as he began picking up books and putting them back in the open spots.

Harper shook her head, "Sure, I'll help you," she said. Harper bent down after dodging a few stray books from the shelf and started to pick them up one by one. There were several on the ground, but only so many that she could reach. After filling her hands with heavy books, small books, light books, and big books, Harper decided that her stack was large enough and sat it down beside Milo. She reached over him and started to pick up a few more, but lost her balance and stumbled on top of him. She lay there for a moment before fully realizing what she had done. As soon as she realized that she was on top of the boy, her cheeks instantly turned crimson red and her face felt like it was hotter than she had ever been. Yet, Harper still remained on him. It was like she was in a frozen state and couldn't move.
She finally forced herself to get off of him, and continued to blush until she was back at her part of the aisle. Harper sat on the ground, with her head bowed in embarrassment. She looked up, only to find her cheeks get even redder [if that was possible] and chewed on her lip nervously. Harper opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. Nothing came out, not even air. Breathe, Harper, Breathe! she told herself, and finally was back into the natural habit of breathing. She opened her mouth again, and it was open a short while before anything came out, "Uhm.. sorry about that, Milo. I swear it was an accident," she said. Her cheeks that had started to fade to a light pink color were now red once again with embarrassment.

"Thanks," Milo replied with a grateful smile. He sat with his back against the shelf, picking books and making himself a pile so he could start putting them back. They probably weren't going to be in the same order they had once been, but Milo didn't really care. If it was really that big of a deal, he'd be willing to go back and rearrange it. But for right now, he was going for the quick-fix.
The thought of books being out of their order was suddenly no longer part of Milo's worries. Instead, there was a girl on top of him. His entire body froze momentarily and the pink that had started to fade came running back, full force. The Lion sat still for a moment, afraid to actually even move. The boy had forgotten to breath since Harper had fallen on him, but when he realized that his lungs were no longer functioning, he took a deep breath in.
"It's OK," Milo assured her, once she had moved herself. He saw how embarrassed and she was and Milo made a friendly gesture. He stuck his hand out for her to shake it. "Friends still," the Lion told the Eagle. After all, it hadn't actually really been that bad...

Harper pursed her lips in the left corner of her mouth, smirking in an embarrassed manner. She looked at Milo, how cute he was and knew that they could still be friends, yeah. She blushed slightly, licked her lips and looked at him, all cute and freckley with his hand held out. She placed her soft hand in his gently and shook it casually. "Yeah, Milo. Still friends," she said, although her voice was shaky and cracked slightly.
"Uhm, so," she said, hesitantly, starting to stand and place books in their wrong places, "Why were you in here, anyways?" she asked, trying to make random conversation that probably wasn't succeeding well. She felt horrible for falling on Milo and more than likely scared him away, or not. She was starting to like this kid. And she didn't think it was your everyday like, neither.

"Good," Milo said happily with a nod as he shook her hand. After a moment, he finally let go but a million thoughts were running through his head. Girl. Cute. Hand. Touch. Oh Merlin. Milo's breathing quickened again but he forced it back to a normal pace, trying to not be so obvious about it. He tried to remind himself that he was an immature boy and girls still had cooties and he shouldn't be doing this but it was a feeble attempt and Milo soon found himself trapped. And there was no way out.
"I was just looking for something interesting to read," Milo explained, "But that was before the book decided to run away..."
(bleh, it's crappy. sorry)

[It's okay, mine wasn't any better. Mine was actually pretty bad.. and short. I didn't give you much to go off of. >.<]
Harper giggled, nodding her head slightly, "Yeah, well I guess that would be a pretty good excuse not to read. Chasing random books is much more fun anyway, huh, Milo?" she said, smiling and taking a playful hit at his leg. Harper blushed as she touched him again. She was just getting used to the boys-don't-have-cooties thing, and found herself liking random ones that she met about the school. Like Curtis and now Milo. What a cute name- Milo.
She brushed some dark carrot colored bangs out of her blue-green eyes to see Milo better. Those dang bangs were always in her way. Harper licked her lips, and started to shuffle her feet curiously. She looked down, and then back up at the boy, smiling, "So do you still want to look for something to read or what do you plan on doing now?" she asked, hoping that it didn't sound like she was asking him out.

"If the book doesn't want me to read it, that'd fine with me. I'd rather now read anyways," Milo replied with a chuckle and a grin, "I've never really liked reading anyways." He laughed again when she hit him playfully and it didn't even bother him this time. He was too wrapped up in her smile to even care.
Ewww, where had that come from? Milo was starting to freak himself out again. He wasn't mature enough for this. He was still the kid that laughed at poop jokes and made fart noises with his armpits. He was still a kid. And a boy, no less. Young boys were the worst.
"I think the best thing to do would be to find the book and try to put it back," Milo suggested with a shrug as he stood up once again, "It couldn't have gotten that far."

Harper nodded, "Yeah, probably not, but what if the dear book attacks you again?" she asked, tilting her head to the side and giving Milo a confused grin, as she raised her eyebrows. Harper's lower lip stuck out as she thought. Thought about Milo and reading and how it was all jumbled up and such. She was so young, but still so confused about the boy thing. Now that she was here, and not back where she lived- Harper was around boys a lot more. A lot.
Being home schooled by your nanny can be fun at some point and time, but when you don't get to see other kids your age, its hard to learn how to act and react to them. She licked her lips and elevated her neck slightly, standing on her tippy toes and peeking over a hole in between two shelves. Maybe she would be able to spot the book. She looked, and listened contently, but saw nothing. Harper turned back and looked at Milo, shrugging as she tilted her head to the side, with a small smile.

"If it attacks me, I'll be ready this time," Milo assured her, taking out his wand and holding it in front of him as he looked along the shelf again, his eyes searching for the runaway. He could hear the soft flipping of pages somewhere off in the distance and he jerked his head in that direction.
"Come on," he whispered to her, starting to creep quietly down the aisle. His feet made barely any noise as he walked carefully, taking slow steps. His tiny hand finally poked around the shelf with his wand still grasped in it. The rest of his body followed soon after his hand and he continued to creep into the next aisle, watching over his shoulder to make sure Harper was coming.
