Lily was sitting at a table reading. She had come into the library looking for a book to do her homework, and instead, she had found a misplaced book. It had intrigued her, and she began to read. She had no idea that the book would make her cry so. She had no idea she would unable to put it down. She had no idea one book could hold so much power over a person. That one girl's voice, one girl, about the same age as her, could speak so loudly to countless generations.
((Dedicated to all those affected by the Holocaust even yet to day. And so that their stories won't be forgotten.))

Lauren was wandering around in the library, yet again. She had no attraction to the library, nor had she ever, but she liked the peace. She loved places where it was quiet. Though she loved being center of attention, she liked times when she could just sit and reflect. The librarian was fairly strict, so she would just find a quiet place and sit. Maybe she could sleep through some classes in here.
As she was wandering the disgustingly peaceful, when she heard something. It sounded like the muffled sound of a soft cry. She turned the corner, seeing Lilly. She grinned and walked toward her.
"Well, if it isn't my old pal Lilly," she said lightly, noticed her tear-stained cheeks. "Why so sad?" She questioned, almost sarastically, but not quite.

"How can other people be like this?" Lily asked, more to herself than to anyone else. She didn't even care it was the Slytherin she didn't get along with. "How could they do this to other living human beings? I had heard about the Holocaust before, sure how could I not have? I lived in Germany after all. But I had never read about the true extent of what they did and it was awful just awful."

Lauren rolled her eyes and snatched the book away from Lilly. She looked at it, back to front and then skimmed through it. She looked back up at Lilly. To Lauren, the Holocaust was an evil thing that a crazy muggle who was probably drugged up his whole life and he killed other muggles.
"Eh, who knows," she said. "I've heard about this. I heard a guy names Hitler killed a bunch of people with brown hair and brown eyes, 'cause they were different. I've also heard that he had brown and brown eyes." Lauren paused, "But I'd like to see him take on a bunch of witches."

"He not only killed them," Lily said quietly. "He took away their freedoms. To me, that would be worse. I'd rather someone kill me than take away my freedoms. He took away everything from them and yet Anne she still believed there was a good in people. She still believed."

Lauren nodded, she could see where Lilly was coming from. She knew, vaguely, the story of Anne Frank. Or whatever her name was, Lauren thought.
"Ok, well if people were out get me, take away my freedom and kill me, I wouldn't think the same. Maybe it's just me, but I think the Anne girl had been around the gas chambers a little too long. I mean she was either really mature or really stupid."

"She was neither," Lily said. "She was brilliant. She was growing up and changing and falling in love, despite everything that happened. And that was why she could believe that people were good. Because she was innocent and pure and that's something people tend to lose. All little kids think everyone is good, but eventually we lose it. Not Anne though, not Anne."

"Ok," she said bankly. "I personally think that little kids have good sense of judgement, probably the best of all age groups. Maybe back in the 1800s all children thought everyone had good in them, but not now. I have a cousin who thinks everyone that isn't family is evil. He's six." Lauren finished and sighed.

Lily shrugged. "Times have changed," she said. "People have changed. Things are not how they used to be. They're worse. People stopped caring a long time ago and they treat this exsistance on the earth as no more than that, just an exsistance. Maybe it's time that people realize we are more than exsisting."

"So if were aren't just existing, what are we doing? Existing and breathing, perhaps on the same time?" Lauren smarted off again. Lauren sat back against a bookshelf, causing a few books to shuffle around.

"You're not funny you know that?" Lily snapped at the girl. "We exsist for a purpose, that's something I've had to learn. But we only get one life and we need to treat it as such. We can't just throw it away and make nothing out of ourselves. We need to care about people."

"Exactly we have one life. Your speaking part of the truth, but you're forgetting the other half. True peace in the world would be nice, between the muggles, between the wizards and the like, and between muggles and wizards. But face it, it's not going to happen in our life time. Who know how long eternity will go on for, we are just a speck in the beginning of it." Lauren stressed.
She took a pause.
" You say we only have one life. No offense, and I'm truly not tryign to be rude, but in the short time I've known you, you've got a sense of humor dry as a bone. You need to lighten up. We have one life, why not live it at it's fullest, and not cooped up dreamingof world peace and pondering the meanign of life?"

"I'm trying!" Lily snapped back at the girl. "I'm trying to live my life to the fullest but the probelm is I don't know how to anymore. I've forgotten what it's like to live and love and laugh. I've forgotten what it's like to be happy. I would live my life to the fullest if I could." She sunk her head into her arms on the table.

"Then stop crying about it, and just do it." Lauren snapped back. "Life is like a bike," Lauren stopped, she didn't want to sound corny or touchy feely, but it slipped out. "You never forget how to live it. You may think you have, but you haven't." She stopped. "Why, what made you forget how?" Lauren wondered.

Lily shrugged. "Depression," she said, though not as if she was certain. "Me. My lost faith in the human race. My inability to hold a stable relationship with anyone - even my friends. Death. There's probably more." She wouldn't and her writer isn't allowed to metion those other things.
