"I'm keeping you from studying," he said guiltily and started making a move to leave. "Maybe I'd better go somewhere else so you can get some work done." He wasn't sure where he'd end up, but he didnt' want to be a bother.

"It's okay," Arianna claimed, shaking her head. She had been having a good time and didn't want it to end now. "I've got the books I need. I can always check them out and work on this later. Like I said, this isn't due for a while."

"Or... can I help you with it?" he asked, figuring that then the afternoon wouldn't be a total loss for at least one of them. If he couldn't take a nap, she might as well finish her work.

"Yeah?" Arianna's face lit up. Though she did well enough on her homework by herself, perhaps Drew's help could get her a perfect score. Not that it really mattered, though. Arianna was glad for any opportunity to hang out with the boy, even if they were working instead of playing. "I'd really like that."

Drew was a little surprised. He was a year behind her and she usually got upset when he made it sound like he thought he knew more than she did. "Really?" he asked. He ahd been swiping Allegra's notes for years and was pretty good at the lessons.

"Yeah," Arianna replied with an enthusiastic nod. As much as she hated to admit it, Drew actually did much better than she did in potions. Even if he wouldn't have to do this assignment for another year, he could probably help her understand and clear up the many questions she had.

"Okay," he answered, smiling a little at the challenge. He hadn't started off as the best potions maker, but after he realized it was just cooking (and a kick in the butt from their last potions master had helped), he was doing a lot better.

"I have to write an essay on anti-poisons, " Arianna explained, pulling one of the books from her pile. She handed it to Drew and pulled the Asiatic Anti-Venoms onto her lap. "And how you can tell which one to use when the poison is unknown."

"Did you try the beaoar?" Drew suggested, saying the first thing to come to mind. He knew that one thing would cure most poisonings. Beyond that, it was a long process, finding the antidote to each part and then some.

"I did think about that," Arianna replied with a short nod. "But can you get a two foot essay out of that? And it doesn't work for all, so...I don't know. Maybe I'm just overthinking this whole thing."
Shoot. Now she was worried that overthinking had been her problem in the past. Perhaps that was why her Potions essays barely passed.

"It works for most stuff," Drew answered. "And unless you have the specific poison, that's probably the best you can do. You go into that whole parts of the whole, but again, you'd probably need the exact potion to work off of."

Arianna scratched her head. It seemed perfectly logical to shove a bezoar down someone's throat and not have to deal with figuring out the poison and antidote stuff, but she still had doubts that it would count as a good essay subject.
"This is why I don't like potions," she muttered, feeling even more inadequate in the subject that she ever had before.

"It's just like cooking," Drew answered as if it were that simple. "Only with the added bonus of something blowing up if you do it wrong." He gave her a wide grin as if this were the best part of the class.

"Yeah, I finally got that part down," Arianna returned the smile, though slightly smaller and more crooked. "Not the blowing up part. That I had down really well my first few years. But now I just need to understand the other stuff. Background and why one ingredient is used in this potion and this other ingredient in that potion over there even though they do the exact same thing. And why we have to write these stupid essays on the properties of...everything."
