Esmerelda paced back and forth in the empty corridor. She was debating whether or not to go to class. She wasn't the skipper type, only had done it once or twice. But she hadn't slept at all last night. She had had the worst of her nightmares and couldn't sleep for fear of it happening again. She eventually trudged out of bed and made herself up as well as she could. Es went to her first class but couldn't pay attention at all. She fell asleep almost twice. She was afraid that if she went to this class she would fall asleep and wake up screaming. Then she would have to explain herself and it'd be one big mess. People would probably make fun of her, make up rumors, and other horrible things. She gave a sigh, leaning against the wall and sliding down to the floor. She just couldn't go to class..

Esmerelda's first class had been one of Keagan's two classes, as well, so she had been there, and left at the same time. Coincidentally, though Keagan did not share Es' next class as well, they had walked in the same direction.
Keag's pace was rather slow, the Gryffindor having no place to be at the moment, so it took a while for her to come upon the Slytherin sitting against the floor. The two weren't close or friends or anything, but the Lioness slowed to a stop at seeing the other girl, anyway.
"Are you alright?"

She had closed her eyes, not trying to sleep but instead fighting it. She was trying to keep the images of the nightmare out of her head. It felt like she had been there for forever but she knew her class hadn't even started yet. She just couldn't go to class.. She knew the guilt would eat at her stomach but it would be way worse if she actually went to class. She knew it would be easy to catch up in whatever work she missed. In fact, they probably wouldn't have any work in that class today.
Es's eyes shot open when she heard a somewhat familar female voice. She looked up to see Keagan, who she knew to be a Gryffindor and in a couple of her classes. She blinked a couple of times and stared blankly at her. Had she almost been asleep? That could have been a disaster. She was silent for another moment, trying to gather her thoughts before she shook her head, as if forgetting that was the universal sign for no.
"I'm fine."
She told her quickly.

Keagan leaned against the wall at the opposite side of the hallway as the Serpent girl looked up, stared at her blankly, and then replied.
"Could've fooled me; you definitely don't look fine," Keagan replied. Oblivious to the fact that Esmerelda was skipping a class, Keag took her time in deciding just what made the Slytherin not look fine to her. She methodically tapped a finger against her chin before speaking again. "If you asked me, I would say you look tired."

She looked up at Keagan again, wondering why she hadn't gone to class yet. It was starting, regardless if they had the same class or not. She wondered why the Gryffindor was still here, trying to help her perhaps? That couldn't be it. Slytherins and Gryffindors were enemies, so what did she want. Her eyes flashed with annoyance, not because of her perhaps, but she didn't want some stupid Gryffindor coming over to her when she didn't get two hours of sleep at night and messing with her. Not that she knew what she wanted so it didn't really matter. She sighed.
"I am tired.."
She replied after a moment.

"Well, at least I was right about something for once," Keagan responded, letting her back slip down the wall until she was sitting against it with her feet straight out in front of her. "Been losing sleep due to homework lately?" she inquired, lazily bouncing her feet into each other. Was it sad that this was more entertaining than what she had planned to do with her free time?

Es glanced at her and arched her brow.
"I'm assuming that means you don't get a lot of things right..?"
She guessed by the look on Keagans face when she said that. She gave a silent sigh and let her head fall back against the cement. She really didn't want to deal with staying on guard with a Gryffindor. She would much rather have let the girl go on to her next class but no, she had to stop and check on the lowly Slytherin. Whatever.. She wasn't usually in such a bad mood and she certainly wasn't going to show it outloud unless provoked but she was really tired. Es didn't look to Keagan but instead decided to trust her and closed her eyes.
"Homework?"
She forced a laugh.
"I would never lose sleep over homework as easy as it is here.."
She told Keagan.

"In my opinion, I'm usually wrong. But maybe I'm just focusing on the wrong things. Heh, wrong again," Keagan replied with a shrug.
"I guess I just figured that your classes were harder than mine. Then again, I only have two classes," Keagan replied. The Slytherin didn't seem to be taking to her very well. Then again, she was a Serpent and she was tired, so Keag was willing to give her some of the benefit of the doubt. Silently, she reached upward, stretching her arms above her head.

"Perhaps you should ask someone you've known for a long time if you're wrong all the time, they would know, wouldn't they?"
She advised her wisely. Es shrugged as well, it was her choice and she didn't know all that much about her so she wasn't trying to get personal with this. The last thing she neded was to become friends with a Gryffindor. She wouldn't usually be having this thoughts and would be open to such a relationship but her grumpiness seemed to be overtaking her mind. Es moved her head back and forth, cracking her neck bones. It felt good and made her alert for a moment.
"I don't really know if my classes are harder than yours, or if perhaps I just find them easy.. I've always had an easy time with my classes. They've just never been...hard."
She told her with another shrug.

"Maybe," Keagan replied, mulling over Esmerelda's suggestion a moment. Maybe Es was right, but Keag didn't really know if she wanted to know what other people thought. They might tell her what she wanted to hear instead of the truth, and where would that get her?
The Gryffindor also thought about what the Serpent girl was saying about her classes. "I'm not really sure if my classes are hard. The two I have now are easy to handle, because there are only two of them. In most of the classes I had before, I never really tried, so even if they were easy I wouldn't have known," she replied, shrugging again. Shrugs sure are contagious. "All I know is I've really mucked up my future."

"Maybe." She replied. Wow, for a Gryffindor she doesn't have a very big vocabulary. But then again, they don't necessarily need a big vocabulary.." She thought to herself. The girl seemed very confused about life and it also seemed she had screwed hers all up. By judging her like a normal Slytherin would, Es figured that the girl was very self-concious and although she wanted to know what people thought of her, she didn't really but deep down, she did.
"A Gryffie, mucking up their future?"
She muttured in suprise. Wow, what a shocker. And she thought Gryffindors were supposed to be the best at everything. It appears not. She glanced up as a random first year walked past them. She growled softly at them and they picked up the pace, high-tailing it out of there. Es looked back to Keagan.
"Why didn't you try?"
She asked her curiously.

If Keagan could read Es' thoughts, she would be incredibly upset by the girl's premature judgements. However, Keagan can't read thoughts. She did hear the allusion to her mistake being unnatural to her house, though.
"Yeah, what of it?" she replied to that, a bit offput by the stereotype utilized. She felt a bit bad for the first year Esmerelda growled at, too, but that probably had more to do with her maternal instinct than anything else.
"I never took an interest in the classes. It never got into my head that my showing in classes actually mattered until last year, and I never had a goal in mind or something to work toward. So I didn't work."

Keagan would have been stupid if she had missed the mocking tone in Es's voice. She did not know why but her Slytherin attributes were coming out. She knew it was the grumpiness but what else, the fact that she was sitting here talking to a Gryffindor?! She didn't much know but she was on a roll. Es actually looked to the girl, smirking but not saying anything.
She just waited until Keagan went on, talking about her classes. She wasn't going to start a fight but she also wasn't going to apologize for behavior that was normal between their houses. She listened to Keagan, pondering her words. Her eyes shot up in interest.
"Wow."
Was all she replied.

The tension between the pair continued to grow as Esmerelda smirked at Keagan and stuck with a simple and nearly insulting "Wow" when Keagan went ahead and answered her question. The Gryffindor, who had been watching Es with quite a bit of suspicion, now chose to cross her arms and roll her eyes. She didn't think her story was that big of deal to anyone but herself, but the Slytherin had asked.
"If I really bug you all that much, isn't there somewhere else you'd rather be?" she inquired, wondering if Es wanted to pick a fight or was just being too lazy to go wherever she had intended to go.

Es brought her head to one side and then the other, cracking her neck bones. It felt good although might have sickened the girl sitting across her her. She closed her eyes for a moment before opening them again as they focused on Keagan. A laugh escaped from her mouth.
"Shouldn't that question be directed at you? You are the one who decided to sit down and see if I was okay.."
She paused, her eyes narrowing at Keagan.
"-Or was that just your good deed of the day..?"
