Ten days worth of detentions so far, and twenty left after this night. The late nights were all ready beginning to take a toll on the young Gryffindor. Why was she even bothering with serving the detentions? It wasn't like she was taking his class anymore, she saw absolutely no reason to be in his detentions. And this man thought he actually threw the blonde out of his classroom? She was all ready at the door handle when he said to get out; he was only encouraging her anger...and then giving her a month's worth of detentions after threatening to take away fifty House points? Big whoop. van Aller had done the lovely bit of taking away one hundred and fifty in one go all because Felicity had wanted a question answered, one she very much thought she deserved and answer to.
What happened in January was all Raynor's fault. If she hadn't called out a favour to have Drew be set free from the Great Hall as a sixth student when Shaw had only said five, she wouldn't have gotten into trouble, or if she had Drew would've been there to stop what happened. But instead, Raynor continued to play tea party with the man, continued to go on almost like nothing even happened at the school. And then the press showed up to find out the story of what happened and Felicity had to hide in the Gryffindor common room nearly every hour of the day to stay away from people. Celina hadn't been talking to her, she no longer trusted Raynor, and she had been frightened out of her wits. To her, it was a good thing Corey and Jethro had been around, her only saving graces on the inside of Gryffindor.
And now, after a long summer of dread, she had a Prefect badge? What kind of games were Brady and Raynor playing at? They wanted to torture her more and still had yet to answer any one of her questions she'd had. Not that she'd go to Brady anyway, had anyone seen the state of the man recently? He looked like a bum off of the streets of Knockturn Alley. And Raynor, she hadn't bothered even trying to talk to Felicity. Even after graphiticizing the castle walls, she'd gotten no answer. Just one hundred and fifty points taken from her.
And now she was serving detentions for yelling back at a Professor who started the bit of trouble to begin with. She'd only asked a question and he snapped, did a complete one hundred and eighty turn around. It was frightening, and knowing that Drew and Connor had both left, leaving her best friend in the room all alone, on her own. It was horrifying. Sure, Felicity'd seen the crazy Ravenclaw since then, but she'd still been left behind. Why did Connor leave her there alone?
But with nine days down, twenty days to go, and facing another night right then, she figured she was almost done. Just get through it without saying a word and she'd be fine. Why couldn't he have just gotten her badge taken from her? It was worthless to the blonde, but meant so much to others. Let any of the other Gryffindors have it, they were all more deserving of something like that. Though, she'd rather have that horrible Headmistress torturing her than anyone else.
Huffing a sigh on anger about the whole thing that wasn't even her fault, Felicity knocked on the door, wondering just what in the world the man would be having her do that night.

Headache, Massive new packages, translating new artifacts and keeping them. What do I do now? Thought Alex as he wrote down replies for the letters accompanied by the packages, more like minimized crates. Alex sighed, he was also waiting for a girl that's not finished with her detention.
Alex flicked his wand and the door opened after Felicity knocked, he didn't look up at her. He just said "Felicity could you please help me organize these new artifacts, be careful though. I have a pair of gloves for you on the corner table" he pointed at the table and then went back to writing. Alex then stopped and enlarged all 3 crates, "We'll start with this one" he said. Alex bent down on the smallest crate and opened it, then he pulled on a pair of gloves and picked up one of the artifacts.
"Falicity get a book and research on this, in my detention today you'll feel how it is to be a historian" he explained, looking at the jeweled box closely. He hadn't seen anything like it before, but his books were here and he hadn't read them all yet. He examined it closely and sighed, "I don't know what this is, get the one's on the back of the office please." he said. He didn't take his eyes off of the box though.

Seeing the man bent over his desk, scribbling away at something, Felicity really didn't mind him not looking. It meant she didn't have to look at the face that had the chance to take her badge away and hadn't. He had the chance, he could've done it, but instead he gave her a month's worth of detentions? If it'd been her she would've stripped the badge away from the student, everyone knew the badge was a sign of honour, by taking it it was taking something precious from someone. And it wasn't like there weren't a number of other students around to take her place.
The blonde's wand was in her robes inner pocket, easily accessible enough if she needed it, though she hoped for his sake, and hers, it wouldn't need to be used for any purpose. She hadn't needed it the past nine previous nights, but she didn't know with the temper the man had. And watching him take out his own wand and use it, she doubted she'd even be able to perform a summoning charm or anything like that before he did something to her.
Walking over to the table, Felicity picked the gloves up and started slipping them over her hands, not really sure what he wanted her to do. Organize artifacts? How? Where did he want them? What did he want done with them?
If she was lucky, she'd get out of here without saying a word like she had the past few nights.
Nope, she wasn't that lucky.
"It's FE-licity not FA-licity," she told him angrily. He'd messed up her name, and she wasn't standing for it. He gave her the detentions when she hadn't even started the argument, it was because of him she'd walked out. If he hadn't snapped at her, she might actually have stayed in the classroom.
Walking to the back of his office, though she wasn't happy to be doing so, Felicity picked up a few that were stacked together. She was getting a lesson on how it was to be a historian? Wouldn't she be more useful scraping dung off of something? Taking them to him she sat them on the table and looked at him expectantly.

Alex looked up at Felicity and silently cursed himself "Sorry Felicity, I'm just stressed out" he said, looking at the books and opening one of them. "Felicity, you can pick up an artifact and look it up or you can play with the egyptian magic powder there, on my table. There's a small can with it, I'm not going hard on you today. It's easy to play with the egyptian powder, think of somethign you want it to be throw it in the air or blow it. Have fun" he said, still looking at the artifact and glancing at the book.
Alex sat on the floor and frowned "Chinese music box, used for taming chinese dragons..." he muttered, looking at the book and then the music box. He wasn't going to give Felicity anything to do unless she was willing to do it. He just sat there and looked into the book for more information.

He was stressed out? Felicity was doing a detention with a madman...and he was stressed out? And he wanted her to play with a powder? Did he not know how dangerous that was? When she had no idea what Egyptian Magic Powder was and he didn't really even explain what it was, just what it did, did he actually think she'd be dumb enough to touch it? What was wrong with this man? It was a good thing her mum taught her well while home schooling her, otherwise she'd be in a lot of trouble right about now.
She could just throw about a possibly dangerous powder, with no idea what it was, when she hadn't ever heard of it, and it would just turn into something she wanted? What in the world?
And when the man took a seat on the floor, she heard him mumble on about a music box for dragons, and it caught her interest. Felicity was talking to Davenport about taking a career up in creatures, and she'd seriously thought about dragons, until Drew expressed his not so much thrill of excitement for what she thought sounded like fun. Of course, it was her decision, but there was no reason for her not to explore other options.
"What--what are those things?" she asked of the things in the boxes, trying not to sound curious.

"Magical creatures tamer artifacts, used by creature tamers back then" he explained, looking at Felicity. Then he took off his gloves and picked up another box, then he looked in the book. "This box contains old magic used to tame manticores from rampaging beasts to creatures as tame and innocent as a baby" he said, showing her the box. Then he took his wand and summoned the can of Egyptian powder, "I think I can give you a demonstration" he said. Alex then took a pinch of powder and blew it, a roaring illusion of the real manticore materialized. Alex then opened the box and music like drums rolling and like something humming came out.
Alex watched as the Manticore's expression came from fierce to calm, and then to contented. Alex then closed the box and walked over to the illusion, he held out his hand and the illusion just rubbed against it. "Wow, it still works" he muttered, then he waved his wand and the illusion disappeared. Alex faced Felicity and smiled at her, "Seems like that crate is full of creature taming artifacts" he said. Alex went and sat down to the same spot he was before he made the illusion and asked "Want to help me?"

The man had definitely caught the Gryffindor's attention now. There were tamer artifacts? For creatures? She hadn't remembered Davenport, nor her mum, talk about that before. Maybe she'd have to ask her Professor about it? Davenport would be more likely to know more than her mum on it. Folding her hands behind her back, Felicity didn't get any closer than where she stood. The man had a short temper and while Felicity could run pretty quickly, she didn't want to be on his bad side again. Though, he hadn't done anything in front of her, but Drew told her he threw a book after she left.
Manticores were one of the more dangerous creatures if she remembered correctly. And with the Professor talking about them being rampaging beasts, she figured she was thinking of the correct creature.
Light brown eyes widened greatly when he said he could give her a demonstration, and Felicity immediately started backing up. He'd called for that powdered stuff. And she was in a room with a madman. With not being right near the exit, the only thing she could really do was back up, and continue as soon as she saw what she did appear. There was no way he'd be ridiculous enough to bring something like that into the classroom!
Backing up faster and farther, Felicity tripped over something, landing her on her bum scrambling back further against the man's wall. He was crazy! Raynor had gone crazy and hired a crazy man! Not even the vampire she hired the previous year had been this crazy.
Even with the music playing and the creature calmed, Felicity continued pressing back against the wall as much as she could. She didn't realize it was only an illusion, she thought he'd actually brought a Manticore into the classroom. And as her Professor approached the creature, Felicity whimpered slightly, afraid of what on earth he was going to do with it.
And as much of a relief as it was that he made it disappear, the blonde wasn't about ready to move. Instead, she remained paralyzed against the wall, trying to think of the quickest escape from the room. With as many things as she'd experienced since arriving at Hogwarts the previous fall, that wasn't like anything else she'd seen.
Wide eyes just looked up at the man, afraid. He hadn't really even given her time to understand what in the world he was doing, hadn't explained fully what that powder was. Normally, she probably would've thought it was amazing, but coming all from a madman? Not so much.
Did she want to help? It sounded like fun. Could she move? Not yet.

Alex sighed and shook his head, then he went over to his notes and retrieved one from his O.W.L. class. It was the notes with full description of the illusion powder, he took it and walked over to Felicity. "I forgot to explain about the egyptian powder. Here, read this. I'll be back on the floor when your ready and calm, if you wwant, I have calming draughts and other potions in the cupboard over there" he pointed at the cupboard beside her and then he walked back to the crate and sat down on the floor again.
She'll need to learn to trust and atleast now I know how to relax he thought, looking back down on the crate and retreiving a sphinx collar. His eyes widened "Whoa....interesting" he muttered, Alex then took the book that was propped open beside him and looked at it. There were no detaildescription, but it said that ancient egyptians used them to tame wild sphinx's. Alex studied the collar and then he summoned his sketch pad, then he started to sketch the artifact. "Who would have sent these?" he asked outloud, the letter had only said history department and nothing more. Must be from around the world he thought.
Alex focused on the collar while waiting for Felicity to say something, he hadn't meant to frighten her and he forgot for a moment that only 3rd years to 5th years and Celina knew about the powder. He forgets himself sometimes, this wasn't good for him at all. I'll have to remind myself to explain more briefly he thought, still sketching the collar and looking at Felicity now and then.

For the tenth night in a row, Drew sat in the fifth floor hallway, just a few yards down from the office Felicity was spending her evenings in. Drew still wasn't sure why she had recieved detention and he hadn't, considering the Ravenclaw had done the same thing she had, but the fact that this so-called professor chose to spend a month's worth of evenings with young witches made Drew trust him even less.
It was a perfect time to get some studying done, and with his back against the wall, Drew had his Potions book propped up on his knees, his glasses sitting on his nose as he read. The last nine nights had been realtively quiet and while Drew would sneak closer to the Griffiths' door to get a good listen, nothing of importance had happened.
Until this night. It was the roar that made the seventeen year old jump to his feet and the crash of something falling hard which made him sprint the short distance to the door. He reached the office just in time to hear the man offer her calming draughts and potions. No one was going to get away with drugging students on Drew's watch, especially when the student in question was his girlfriend.
Fighting back the urge to just bust into the office and curse the crap out of the guy, Drew pounded on the door, probably a little harder than he had realistically meant to.

The parchment nearly waved under her nose was the only reason the blonde decided to move. He said to read it. She could read something just fine, but when she saw the name on the top of the parchment, Jax Chaput, Felicity wondered if the man wanted her to grade her friend's essay...or really just read it. But Jax was a fourth year this year, and while she was a younger year, Felicity was used to some knowing more than she did. The blonde only started Hogwarts the autumn previous, she knew practically nothing about some things, while a bit more about others.
As the man explained about potions, Felicity's back tightened. She didn't need a potion, and if she did she knew very well how to find the nurse or Tapia, or she could brew her own. Being what her mum did, Felicity had gotten pretty good at brewing potions over the years, one of the few forms of magic she was able to do without a wand and learn in her own home.
And as the man retook his seat and began muttering to himself again, Felicity pulled the parchment closer, keeping her eyes closed for a moment, forcing herself to calm down. Nothing happened, it was just a detention, and a fluke of one. And she was still kind of interested in what he was doing, but she didn't feel comfortable enough leaving the spot she'd found. The wall was feeling pretty good, grinding into her back at the moment.
And pulling the parchment in front of her, Felicity's gaze bore through the paper rather than reading the information. Whatever that powder stuff was, she didn't care, she didn't like it one bit.
Taking a deep breath, Felicity tried to focus on the paper, but was again startled up against the wall by ferocious poundings at the door. Now what?

Alex sat up when he heard pounding on the door, he looked at Felicity. "Did you bring anyone here?" he asked, then turning at the door and frowning. Alex slwoly stood up and walekd over to the door, then he opened it and saw the ravenclaw that walked out with Felicity. "Anything you came here for mr. thornton?" he asked, looking at him. He then stepped aside incase the boy wanted to come in, though there wasn't exactly good space.
Alex then looked at Felicity questioningly, "Anyone mind filling me in?" he asked. He had a feeling that mr. Thornton has been here long enough to be pounding on the door so suddenly. What is it with my walk out students and my office? he thought, looking from Felicity to Andrew.

Oh, the things Drew could have answered, but he doubted his own smart-ass answers would help the situation any. Either way, he had every right to be in the fifth floor hallway, so he didn't feel like he needed to explain what he was doing, except for the fact that he had just pounded on the man's door.
"I was outside and I heard a roar," he said calmly, facing the man in the eye before glancing over at Felicity and giving her a small smile. "I just wanted to make sure everything was okay."

Quickly shaking her head, the blonde locks rushed back and forth over her shoulders. She hadn't brought anyone to her detention with her. If she had, it would've been her dad. He substituted well enough for a bodyguard and she was sure it wasn't Drew because he walked her back to the towers every night so far, but he knew when she was going to be done with detentions. Why would she even bring anyone with her to begin with?
But after Griffiths opened the door, Felicity felt a wave of relief wash over her. Maybe someone needed her and Drew was sent down to get her away from the madman? She would love if that was the answer. Especially since it woud mean getting out of a partial detention. However, when the man turned his head towards her and asked if someone would fill him in, all she could do was shake her head and hope he wouldn't get mad. She hadn't any idea why Drew was there.
Though, the answer surprised even her, and despite the smile the Head Boy sent her, Felicity gave him a questioning look in return.

Alex sighed "It was just an illusion I made with one of the artifacts here while I was checking them out, it must have been to loud" he said, shrugging. Then he left the door open and walked over to the artifacts, he lifted the manticore box and said "This is what I was testing, part of history and very old, but new discoveries" he then put it back down and then looked at Felicity. "To better understand the egyptian powder you must read jax's notes" he said, then he went over to the egyptian jar and peered in. "Hmm....I might need a new stock of these from the department" he muttered.
Alex then just walked over to the shelves and let the two teens talk if they must, he examined the sensitive artifacts there and sighed. These have to go, some student may see them and ask about it he thought, frowning at the artifacts. Alex then turned to the two teens, "My classroom or my office is still open for anyone, it was just unfortunate that your muggle studies professor seems to enjoy ticking me off" he said, adding the last part quietly. Alex shook his head and returned to the crate, he crouched down and ignored the sphinx collar, he just peered in and counted the artifacts there. 1...2...3...4...hmmm.....more than 10 i presume. Yes, more than ten tiring tamer artifacts he thought

Drew had expected the man to go off on another tirade, an assumption that was almost confirmed at the accusatory tone Griffiths had used when seeing who was on the other side of the door. But the man's demeanor calmed down and even though the tension had lessened, Drew still didn't trust the guy. After all, who let loose frightening images when alone with young girls? A sicko, that's who.
Felicity's reaction put him on edge as well and he started wondering if he had jumped the gun and busted in when there was no reason to be concerned. He looked back at her and when the professor had turned away to fuss with his things, he mouthed to her You okay?
"Egyptian powder?" he asked the man, smirking a little at whatever the guy was doing. The Egyptians only had one magical powder that naming it something more specific was pointless? It sounded suspicious to the Ravenclaw. "Exactly what's in that stuff?"
