And he ignored what she told him. It wasn't a big deal, but it sure made her feel stupid for saying it out loud, and stupid for a few things she had written in her notebook. Maybe she wasn't allowed to say anything about liking something he did. But then why was he allowed to say he liked something about her? Or what if he hadn't heard her? But saying it again just seemed even dumber.
Sighing, Felicity nodded her head. She heard what he said, and it was kind of answering his question. The blonde just wasn't feeling right, being there with his arm around her when she'd made a point of saying something and he just ignored it. Then again, she didn't feel right backing out of his grip either.

She fell silent and while he wasn't positive, he was pretty sure it had to do with what he had said. That had been crossing the line and the only thing he could do now was pretend he had never said it. That particular technique had worked at the lake... kind of. At least she wasn't mad enough at him to move away.
"Have... have you ever thought of giving him a collar?" Drew asked, wondering if Sammy would even like wearing one. He still was trying to tell the difference between him and all of the other squirrels, not really knowing how Felicity did it.

His arm was still wrapped around her, so she decided her conclusion to what she said never reached his ears. But the moment had passed to be able to say anything more on it, after all, it'd happened seconds ago, way too late to bring it up again. However, his arm was still around her, and that was what mattered, right? To feel safe, warm, and cared for, that was what mattered most.
"I did...once," she answered the blue-eyed Ravenclaw. Once she did, and then she hadn't thought about it since. She knew which squirrel was Sammy, it was in the eyes and that little streak at his side. That was how she knew who he was. "But then I thought about the different colour collars there are, and decided it would be mean to choose one he didn't like because of the colour. I mean, would you like if someone gave you a shirt in a colour you didn't like? Like maybe orange, or purple, or brown?"
Felicity liked orange, brown was all right, but she wasn't fond of purple. And she knew Drew really liked blue, but what colour didn't he like?

"It's a shirt and if it's clean, I'd probably go ahead and wear it," Drew answered with a small smile and a shrug. He probably wouldn't go out and buy an orange or purple shirt, but he really didn't have anything against those particular colors.
But she had a point. What if Sammy prefered a particular color? She wouldn't want to put him in something he didn't like. Could squirrels even see in color? And how did someone go about testing that?
"We could get a bunch of different collars and see which one he likes," Drew suggested. Of course, this was all assuming Sammy wanted to wear a collar to begin with, wasn't it?

What was with the "we" bit? Felicity liked that he was including himself, after all, it was the day she met Sammy that he got her out of a tree. But, what about everything else? Lucas was the once who finally caught the animal, and Drew didn't really have any claim on the creature that Felicity was aware of. Maybe he wanted to just help? But he was confusing her badly.
"I can't afford to, though," she pointed out. And you could just take a pet squirrel into a store to choose it's own collar. What if it decided to go with other things too? Like toys, or a dish, or a home, or even a new animal? It was disastrous just thinking about it.
And it was the truth. The lioness couldn't afford to waste a whole bunch of money, she didn't have barely the money to buy him a collar to begin with, at least a good collar. The blonde could buy a cheap one, but they weren't very nice all the time, and she wanted to get him a good collar that would last a long time.

Drew hadn't even realized he had included himself in the plan, and even now, didn't think twice about speaking as if the two of them would do this together.
"Well, we could return the ones he doesn't like," he pointed out, seeing that as a logical conclusion. They could pick up a bunch of different styles and colors, let Sammy pick his favorite, and take the others back to the store. It's not like Sammy needs more than one collar, right?"

"We could, but that doesn't explain how I'll buy any in the first place." It was a matter of not having the money. Yes, she was supposed to have a summer job this year, but she didn't know how she'd buy a collar, or more than one, before then. And even if she found him one he enjoyed, how was she supposed to buy him one that would last a good long time, and was comfortable for him? Did they make squirrel collars? Or was she supposed to just get him a cat collar?
It was more confusing than just what Drew was doing to confuse her all ready.
Pulling the grey animal closer with one arm, her other hand inexplicably found Drew's that was wrapped around her. Was it a bad thing to be so comfortable with someone she still had feelings for, strong feelings for? And was it bad to enjoy being in his arms?
And on top of it, even more important, would he mind?

"Well... I could buy them..." Drew answered. He wasn't sure why, but he had kind of assumed that was part of the plan. But now that he said it outloud, he wasn't sure if Felicity would be okay with that. It wasn't like Sammy was his squirrel or anything. "I mean, you'd have to pick them out and all, and then we can just return the ones he doesn't like."
Her hand slipped into his and he squeezed it lightly, enjoying the warmth and hoping she understood he wasn't meaning anyting disrespectful with is offer. It was just that if she wanted a collar for Sammy, then he wanted to make sure she got one.

Why did it feel so imposing to let Drew even make such an offer? Felicity didn't mind too much, but she didn't like being inadequate enough to not be able to afford something of the sort either. It was her pet, she could only afford to feed him because she took nuts off the table at dinner and had managed to collect lots of them over the course of trying to catch him and now being the proud owner of a squirrel.
"I'd pay you back," she said immediately. The problem with that was being able to come up with the money to do so. And if he was returning the ones Sammy didn't like, then it wasn't really too expensive, was it? On the other hand, what if Sammy liked a really expensive collar? No, she wasn't about to find a diamond-studded collar, but some could be pretty expensive, she knew because they had to buy collars for Pahndah.
And she didn't think he minded too much her hand being in his, he hadn't pulled away from her, yet.
Tilting her head back, she looked up at him, trying to resist the urge to just kiss him and beg him to forgive her for being dumb and breaking up with him. Instead, she pressed her lips against his jaw and lingered for the smallest of seconds. It was like kissing his cheek, but she couldn't reach it from her position. "Thank you."

"I never got Sammy a Christmas present," Drew told her, figuring he wouldn't argue her offer of payback to much. At least not until she was actually trying to pay him back. Just becasue she didn't want to be his girlfriend didn't mean he couldn't do nice things for her, did it?
But then she kissed his jaw and he could pretend for just a moment that she did want to be with him, that she still liked him like that. He closed his eyes and gave a deep and contented sigh, even though he knew deep down that it didn't mean anything, just like when he would kiss the top of Ari's head. It still didn't stop him from pretending.

Sammy, having become restless from being held so tightly at awkward angles, began squirming to be released from the almost killer grip of the blonde. No, he didn't mind being held sometimes, but right now was not one of those times, she was sitting with that boy that smelled funny. Time to make a get-away.
"You don't have to get one for him, he never got you one," Felicity told him. Felicity had gotten Drew a present, but Sammy hadn't. And Drew had given Felicity the snowglobe that sat at the head of her bed, along with the necklace she only wore sometimes now, except today, it was around her neck. She liked the feel of the cold silver chain when she knew she'd be thinking about the boy a lot, and her notebook was full of things for and about him.
And Sammy took the given opportunity to jump from the blonde's grip, knowing she was unaware of his plan. The lioness let him go, surprisingly without any words. While she loved the little creature, he should be allowed to roam a bit, right? Besides, she was currently located where she felt she was wanted, even if it might not be true.
Felicity could feel him sigh, being so close to him, and his peacefully moving body, along with the sound of his breath sweeping through the air, was much too comforting.
"Drew?" she started. "I'm...I'll be right back." Standing, Felicity pulled out of Drew's arm, and walked down the hall, in search of the loo where she could rightfully slap herself for feeling much too comfortable, and for almost apologizing again.

"Well, just because he overlooked the occassion doesn't mean I should," Drew told her with a tease in his voice. Of course he would never expect a squirrel to give him anything (except possibly rabies), but it was a good excuse to get the collars.
It felt nice just holding her, smelling her hair, having her hand in his. He didn't really mind that Sammy decided to find something else to do. A couple of humans just sitting there couldn't have been very entertaining for him.
"Hmmm?" he answered her, but he never got to hear what she was going to say. Felicity jumped up suddenly and made her way down the hall, leaving him wondering what he had done now. She said she would be back, and so he stayed where he was. At the very least, she'd have to come back for her notebook, right?

A bit of a giggle was her answer. Sammy hadn't overlooked the holiday, but Felicity hadn't thought to get him something from the animal. Of course, did pets give gifts to people? Especially boyfriends? Drew hadn't really been her boyfriend then, though, he hadn't asked her out until the day in Diagon, after they gave gifts to each other.
But it didn't matter too much either, she was already heading to the loo. She needed something to get her out of her thoughts. Her journal was good for this kind of stuff, but she'd left that back with Drew. The unmarked cover, it wasn't really private, it just held a few thoughts, a lot about him, but a few of others.
Splashing a bit of water on her face, she looked up into the mirror, knowing what a horrible person she was. It was terrible of her to do that to him, to say she didn't think it was a good idea to date him anymore when what she wanted was to be with him.

With Felicity gone, he quite literally banged his head back against the wall, penance for his own stupidity. She didn't want to be with him like that, so when would he get it through his thick skull? When would he stop pretending they were still toghether and face the facts? Again, he smacked the back of his head agaisnt he stones behind him, hoping to knock some sense in there.
The thing was sometimes, it was so easy to pretend she still wanted to be his girlfriend. She would snuggle up to him, hold his hand, kiss his jaw... and he would be able to smell the vanilla scent that made those butterflies in his stomach do backflips.
He banged his head agaisnt the wall again, trying desperately to get a grip on reality. So what was she doing? Was she just playing around, toying with his emotions? No, he really didn't belive that. He had thought her capable of it back in September, but now he knew she wouldn't purposefully tease him like that. Of course, he might be acting a bigger fool, but he really didn't think she'd do that to him.
His head was pretty sore, but he banged it again for good measure. Maybe the pain would keep him focused.

The mirrored reflection wasn't helping her any. In fact, it only made her want to claw out her own eyes for feeling how she did about the Ravenclaw. It wasn't a bad thing if she liked him, but she doubted he still liked her like she liked him. How could he? It'd been close to a month and she still hadn't told him she still wanted him back. And why hadn't she? Fear of losing him, falling for him harder, fear he wouldn't want her because he'd had plenty of time to move on. Was stuff like this always so complicated? She didn't remember her sisters having such a hard time with boys, then again her mum had always been right there for them. Felicity was ages away from her parents, Celina had never had a romantic relationship, the library wasn't helping, and she felt she had no one to really turn to. Just Drew, and he didn't work in this situation.
But on the other hand, they were supposed to talk to each other, right? She was supposed to tell him when things were on her mind, part of their problem has been because they didn't communicate very well with one another. Just maybe...
Sighing, she wiped her face clean, took a deep breath and exited the bathroom. He was just going to hate her for the rest of his life because of what she'd done, she was sure of it.
