"Bo--both," he answered pleasantly. "I've had Tan--Tanya the long--longest, and then Kel--Kellen, Corey, and Andre--Andrew. They're real--really coming along qui--quite nicel--nicely. Bu--but my mum said she--she'd send alon--along the rest as soo--soon as she coul--could." And though he had a number of plant holders and sends packed away in his trunk, they weren't only just more additions to his growing garden. The poor boys in the dormitory this year weren't going to be right pleased with him again, waking up with the smell of floral in their hair, the scent of sweet evergreens putting them to sleep, the strong smells when his greenhouse plants became cozy where they were. Oh, the boys were going to hate their new Prefect even more than the year before.
"Charms, actu--actually. Sur--surprising, I know." Dustan was just glad their Charms professor was male. his stuttering one would think would provide a major problem in casting charms, but really, he had no problems with it, as long as he wasn't practicing on or to a girl of any age. he actually found himself stuttering to a much younger girl the day before, embarrassing. However, it wasn't something he could control, try as he might to do so. "Bu--but in Herbo--Herbology class, the less--lessons are compl--completely bor--boring an--and I have a hard ti--time paying atten--attention."
"Well, let--lets make sure she doesn--doesn't get into Kel--Kellen here, poison--poisonous an-and all." Looking out for the animals. Dustan Jay McNutt, an animal person? Perhaps. "I'm tak--taking that class, to--too, actu--actually. It looks alm--almost intere--interesting this...this year."

Matty had been just about to sit up and pull off the backpack that was still on her back, when a quiet, yet familiar voice reached her ears. Cranking in her head to see if it really was who she thought it would be, green eyes found that it was the seventh year in mind. "Josh!" she exclaimed, a grin rippling onto her face. Alright, so maybe Matty and Josh weren't as close as some Hufflepuffs were, but that didn't mean she didn't want it to be so. He had found her in when in strife on a couple of occasions, and had safely pulled her out of any harms way - both physical, and probably mental, too. The girl had even almost forgotten his question, but she sat upright, pulling off her pack, and stowing it in the compartment above. "Yeah, of course. I'm not too sure on who else will be joining us, if anyone. And Tianne has to go to the Prefects meeting sometime, too." she said, now managing to stand up and shuffle over so there would be room on her seat for the older Hufflepuff. Anyone who didn't know Matilda better might have thought she had something going for Josh, because of her bubbly personality to wards him. (After all, ahem, who was Emeric Troy to her?) But in actual fact, she was just really glad to see him. Josh flashed a smile to the girl and nodded to her friend who he hadn't noticed was in the compartment. He didn't know her personally, but he had seen her with Matty before. Josh assumed they were pretty close friends. Turning his head, the Hufflepuff grabbed the handle of his trunk and lugged it into the compartment. Easily, he lifted it up and placed it on the shelf above the seats before pulling his jacket off and sitting down. As he sat, Josh's eyes wandered over to Matty, looking her over quickly. She was even prettier now than she had been the last time Josh saw her. He felt his pale skin turn a light shade of pink on his cheeks and he made himself look away. "So did you have a good summer, Matty?" Josh asked the girl shyly, keeping his eyes on the floor as he spoke.

As Abby listened to Dustan she couldn't help but smile. She liked passion, when you could tell how much someone liked something by the way they spoke about it. Her cheeks were still slightly pink from before. "I-I think you-you're doing a gre-great job with th-them." Her voice was sincere and sweet. You could see she was trying to not stutter when she spoke to Dustan. With a dirtied hand she flipped some hair over her shoulder as to get it out of the way. "On-once they ar-ar-arrive may I see th-them? They mu-must be beautiful."
"I al-always had problems with ch-charms. Stut-stuttering never he-helps. But I a-am getting better." She said this with a small, somewhat nervous smile. "Learn-learned to tu-tune people out wh-when I need to consen-concentrate." The dirt on the ground was almost all gone but from what Abigail could see there was a lot that was salvageable. Grey eyes glanced around the compartment for anything that could help them get the rest of the dirt for Dustan. "Di-did you bring any ex-extra dirt for your p-plants?"
When Dustan spoke about the poisonous plant she glanced back at Artemis, sighing quiet at the fact her cat was snoozing in a pleasant sunbeam. She did make a mental note about keeping a watchful eye on her cat. Her heart jumped into her throat when he said he was also taking Care of Magical Creatures. Something in between a giggle and cough escaped her lips as she tried to say something to him. After a few very subtle deep breaths she regained some sort of composure. "So-so I guess I-I-I'll be seeing you i-in class?" Abby asked, her voice slightly hopeful.

As Matty watched Josh pull in his trunk, lift it into the compartment above with ease, and sit down, she couldn't help but notice that he looked... different. Alright, so maybe not different, but there was something different about him. Whether it was the fact that she hadn't seen him in weeks, and she had changed somehow that managed to reflect off him, or maybe because of the mere fact that he was a seventh year now, the girl wasn't too sure about. So what if her and Josh weren't like herself and Tianne, thicker than blood, but that didn't mean she didn't admire and care for him. Josh had been around when things had been tough for Matilda, and she intended to be there for him, whatever the call.
She had averted her eyes after the quick glance over the older Hufflepuff, not wanting to seem rude by staring, and so her gaze had been on the Tee, until Josh asked her about her summer. "I did, actually. Thanks for asking." Matty said, unable to keep the smile off her face, as she turned and looked at the boy. "How about you, how was your summer? Get up to anything mischievous or dangerous?" there was a small amount of teasing in her tone, but it was all in good humor.

"We--well, than-thank you," he smiled slightly, imperfect teeth showing. Gulping quietly, his green eyes looked down at Kellen, seeing how it seemed nearly unlikely he'd be getting anymore dirt from the floor. Actually, if anything he was squishing more of it into the carpeting than really putting back in his plant pot. he was caught off guard when asked if she could see his other plants when they'd arrived, and it took a moment for him to focus on understanding that she actually wanted to technically see him again since she wanted to see his plants. While he had gotten used to meeting up with certain people for studying, he usually stuck to his own group, but maybe Abigail was someone that could be included? "Ye-yeah, that'd be... that'd be excel--excellent. I--I ha--have a lo--lot of the--them, an--and they li--like gettin--getting ou--out and abou--about."
It'd do his plants good to be somewhere outside of his dorm. he didn't think this girl was a Slytherin, but he couldn't be sure either, but being a Prefect, he'd know after the sorting feast. After all, he needed to know the students in his house, and if she was there, it'd be easier to maybe hang out sometimes, if they got along after this, and showing her his plants.
Nodding, he understood that stuttering was awfully hard at times, but his fault came to girls. Why he spoke so badly in front of them, he couldn't place a finger on the reason. his mum was the only one that got in under the radar. Otherwise, he could speak just fine to the guys, but there was something about those girls. It had to be the hypnotic way the looked at him, those mind games they played through their movements, making him out to be a bigger snake than he already was. Like a python enchanted by the fluid movements and charming tunes of a flute, he was struck by all females in such a way. "We--well, if you ev--ever need hel--help, you ca--can ask."
If they were both fifth years, then they had an awful lot of classes together. "Uh, we--well, n--no, actua--actually. I usu--usually just dig som--some up from the groun--grounds at school an--and use th--that. I--It's rich--richer in the minerals need--needed for the plan--plants to grow. I'll... I'll prob--probably get the stu--students ba--back to the Slyth--Slytherin House and then du--duck out for a few min--minutes to get some mo-more..."
Hearing the funny noise she made, Dustan glanced up in concern, wondering if she needed the liquid more than his plants did, but didn't think anything of it when she sounded normal again. "Ye--Yeah, I gues--guess so. A--A few of the--them, actua--actually."

"Thanks. That's all I'm asking," Drew told her with a small smile. Jeremy wasn't the easiest kid to get along with but Drew knew Felicity would do what shse could to be there for him if the kid needed her to be.
Felicity tugged at him to follow her onto the train and Drew complied, hoisting her trunk up into the stairwell before climbing aboard himself. He thought she might pick a compartment with Celina, but he had noticed Alfonz was there as well. Drew wouldn't say anything if that's where Felciity wanted to be, but he sure wasn't going to suggest it.
"You wanna grab an open compartment and save a spot for Dante and them when they get out of the meeting?" he suggested. It wasn't like they'd be stuck in the front compartment the whole time. Drew didn't feel so great about leaving Felicity to sit on her own though. maybe he could stay for a while and then apparate from the train to his meeting...

"All right," the blonde answered, giving a weary smile. She was pretty sure Jeremy wouldn't get within reach of her if it was up to him, but maybe if he was playing Quidditch again this year she could keep an eye on him during their practices, or rather, games. Maybe she'd take to following him around the castle, but then he'd think she was even crazier and she didn't want Drew to be upset with her for upsetting his cousin. Perhaps she could stop by while he was eating a few times a month, that wasn't too upsetting was it? If she were to bother him at the Ravenclaw table a few times just to see how he was doing...Maybe it wouldn't be too bad.
Walking ahead of Drew up from the platform, she entered the train and started peering into compartments, noticing not too many people were sharing this year. It seemed a lot of people were spread out in singles or pairs and it didn't look likely she'd find a compartment. In fact, she couldn't even see any of her friends, but it was an awfully big train, so maybe they were just as well spread out.
"Ummm...yes, that might be all right. I mean, I can always join them or they me if they all have their own compartments or something, right? We don't really have to stay with our things since they'll be taken up to our dormitories anyway." Seeing what looked like one of the last single compartments, the blonde nudged the door open to reveal a bare room. "This'll be all right. I can leave Dustan and Sammy in here to save me at least one seat if it fills up while I'm looking around on the train, or saying goodbye..." she uttered the last word, barely audible. Felicity definitely didn't want to say that to him, not when she didn't know when she'd next be seeing him.

When she found an open compatment, he followed her in, stowing her trunk safely out of the way in the overhead compartment. He knew it was getting closer to that time when he'd have to say goodbye for real and he wasn't looking forward to it. He gave a deep sigh, wishing he didn't have to leave.
He kept trying to tell himself that she would be okay and that it would only be a few months until Christmas. Until then, they had letters and plans to see one another on Hogsmeade weekends. He tried to tell himself that it would be enough to get them through, but it was hard to be convincing.
He checked his watch and saw that they didn't have much time left. "I should probably get back to the platform..." he said, biting on his lip as he looked out the compartment window.

Sitting her caged owl and leashed Sammy down on the soft seats the train provided, she gently told Sammy he had to stay put, hoping he'd listen, doubting he would. Having one knee resting on the seat, leaning out of Drew's way while he put her trunk away for her, she scratched behind the small animal's ears, waiting to see what Drew wanted to do, if he was leaving her there or if he'd let her walk him back to the platform. She wasn't sure which way was better, if either were. In any case, she had to say those words that she knew were going to hurt to say.
Standing up fully, she nodded carefully, biting on her bottom lip, hands in her back pockets, eyes on the floor. Felicity didn't want him to go, she didn't want to have to go back, she didn't want to depart knowing she might not be able to see him again until Christmas if he couldn't meet up with her in Hogsmeade on their trips. They weren't going to be able to have Halloween together, or swimming in the lake, climbing their tree, none of it.
"Can I come with you?" she whispered softly, afraid he was going to tell her to stay put.

"So, how was your summer?"
Henry crossed his legs and got comfortable in his seat, so Sophia did the same. "My summer was kind of lackluster. I thought so much more would happen, but it was kind of lonely. I went to that wizarding camp." Now that she said it aloud, it sounded kind of lame. Whatever. "I guess I sort of had a peaceful summer."
She looked out the window, searching for any sign of Connor or Delilah. Nope. Not even Anna. Where were they?
"So I guess we're the Gryffindor Prefects this year. My mum was so proud. She hugged me a lot and cried a little." She laughed at the mention of her emotional mother's outburst. "It should be loads of fun, right?"

Still going through the corridor, Anna was really starting to wonder if finding a seat was possible. Thankfully there appeared to be two familiar looking people when she peaked through the compartment door. "Hiya Sophia and Henry!" she greeted. "I hope you don't mind if I take a seat, this train is always packed by the time I get here." Well, perhaps if she didn't talk to Tristan outside the platform there would have been more time to find a place but then that would have made things worse in the long run.
However, before entering the compartment, the gryff heard something about prefects. "By the way, not sure if I heard right but did you guys say you were prefects?"

For the first time in a long time Abigail's smile wasn't held down my any restraints. She smiled big, not worrying about looking excited about future meetings with Dustan. Something about him really made her feel not so alone anymore. Many things about him she could see in herself and that warmed her heart just a little bit. Abigail even giggled when he agreed to show her his plants when they arrived. She made a mental note to pay attention in Herbology once they started again so that she'd have more to add to any plant conversations they had in the future. "I'm ve-very excited. Don-don't meet many people wh-who have passion in som-something other than the-their looks these days."
"We--well, if you ev--ever need hel--help, you ca--can ask."
Nodding slightly she pulled her hands away, setting them in her lap. Yet again she was blushing because of two reasons. One, she didn't really know what to say to such a nice gesture and two, because this helping hand was coming from a boy she just met. "I-I'll be sure to remem-member that. Same thi-thing goes for Care of Ma-magical Creatures." What was this boy doing to her. A little while ago she was in her own world wishing for all of this to happen then like someone was listening to her it did. If she were any more shy or quiet she may think someone was playing a trick on her.
Abigail listened to his plan. Without hesitation she looked him in the eye and grinned again, this one shy. "If you-you'd like help may-maybe I could tag a-along? For back-backup?" Who was she and where did shy little Abigail go? If her Aunt and Uncle were here their mouths would be on the floor in shock and awe. This was not their niece! "I-I'm really go-good at sneaking a-around." Then she remembered that he was a prefect now and could get her in trouble. "No-not that I-I do it of-often."
"Gr-great then. At-at least I'll kno-know one person in cl-class." She was happy he really didn't notice her weird giggle-cough. That would have been worst then anything at this moment. "Wh-what are your oth-other electives?"

In all honesty, he hadn't done anything. He'd worked around the house and had a little summer job in a book store, but that was about it. There wasn't much to do and he really didn't have school friends he could hang out with, considering he'd never really let anybody in. He could feel the pink in his cheeks deepening and a nervous chuckle had managed to escape. "Oh, it was pretty good, thanks," the shy boy answered, only glancing up slightly as he talked, "Nothing dangerous or mischievous." He finally looked up and flashed Matty his lopsided grin. Turning his attention to the Matty's friend who was also in the compartment. He felt bad about not even really introducing himself to her and realized she was on the floor. He reached out his hand for a shake and to help her up off the floor. "Hi, I'm sorry," Josh said to the girl with a light grin, "I'm Josh."

"Hiya Sophia and Henry!...I hope you don't mind if I take a seat, this train is always packed by the time I get here."
"Oh, Anna!" said Henry in surprise, looking around as the door of the compartment opened once more. "Come in, come in, have a seat."
Once again, he jumped up to help with the newcomer's luggage. As they tucked her trunk securely away in the rack overhead, Anna continued.
"By the way, not sure if I heard right, but did you guys say you were prefects?"
"Indeed, you did," said Henry, moving his jacket out of the seat next to his so that Anna could have the pick of any of the remaining seats. "we were just discussing our summers, and our appointments to the job."
He situated himself back down into his seat, and crossed his legs once more, before responding to Sophia's question.
"At the very least, it should be interesting." he said "I was somewhat surprised when I received the letter. I hadn't been aware that I was up for consideration on the matter of prefect status."
"Have you maintained the Gryffindor house team Captaincy?" he asked Anna, voicing something he had wanted to ask since she entered the compartment. "I haven't yet heard much about the other prefect-class students for this year."

(Open to whoever) Derrick sat calmly strumming his guitar, not playing anything in particular, just playing whatever his fingers felt like playing. Sitting Indian style in the compartment he was happy to be headed back to Hogwarts. He wanted to explore what seemed to be the endless grounds of the place, over the summer he had officially left no patch of land unsearched at his new cottage. Well at least the grounds that lay within their property lines anyway. The grassy meadows he had slept in during the night and the tall winding trees that gave him shade for naps during the day time. Did this make Derrick lazy? Not at all in his opinion, he was a child, teenager, or whatever you want to call him and this is the time that he should be exploring. Growing up wasn’t somewhere he wanted to get; not just yet anyway. This morning though was pleasant per usual before he left; silently plucking chords he recounted it in his head.
His alarm had blared loudly the music ripping through his ears jolting him awake. Lying in his bed Derrick enjoyed the moment as the lyrics came from the speakers; he knew that once at Hogwarts he wouldn’t be able to have this leisure unless it was played by his unsteady hand. Rolling out of bed he knew that he didn’t need to wake his parents his own alarm would do that eventually if it hadn’t already, so the music continued to play steadily, Swinging himself out of his bed he felt a chill run up his spine as his bare feet hit the cold tiles of his room floor, he enjoyed this feeling, if he had wanted to he could have had a carpet but this was the way he preferred to wake up. Standing he trudged into the bathroom and started the shower letting the cool water run over him as he stepped in. As he cleaned himself quickly he began to sing along with the music that boomed through his room.
“Cause Jersey just got colder and I’ll have you know I’m scared to death. That everything that you had said was just a lie until you left. Now I’m hoping just a little bit stronger, hold me up a little bit longer. I’ll be fine I swear, I’m just gone beyond repair.”
Turning off the shower he dried quickly and tugged on whatever clothes he hadn’t packed in his trunk to take with him. As he pulled on jeans with one hand he hopped over to his dresser and pulled out a Four Year Strong tee and tugged it over his head with his free hand. Slipping on sandals he walked steadily out of his room and down the hall to his parent’s room. Poking his head into the room he saw them finishing up their morning rituals as well. He smiled fondly of his new parents simply because he loved how they matched his untidiness on their days off despite being professional business people. Strolling back to his room he had taken one last look around taking in his wall and everything he would miss until next summer.
Derrick flashed himself back to the train and found himself plucking cords from the song that he had heard that morning subconsciously. The rest of his morning had been as it was the previous two years. He arrived two hours before everyone else did and ate breakfast with his parents at the train station, hugged them goodbye at the doors, and then climbed on the train into his freedom. He had been strumming his guitar and petting his cat Niwa by himself now for quite some time and he didn't actually expect that to change. People rarely joined him on the train and by rarely he meant never. Last year and the year before he had in fact sat by himself, it was as if people were scared of him or didn’t know that the compartment he was situated in existed. Derrick assumed it was the latter as he didn’t know why anyone would be scared of him. For the most part he was harmless and in honest would welcome maybe actually talking or meeting someone that he went to school with. After all what harm could a friend do him beside Niwa and Francesca? Sighing he began to strum his guitar again remembering the song that he had heard this morning beginning to sing again and this time play it
“Let's write a song that we can dance to cause they all wanna listen. Just to know how it sounds when, I do that thing you know that I do. When I find inspiration. This is me breaking down when Jersey just got colder and I’ll have you know I’m scared to death. That everything that you had said was just a lie until you left. Now I’m hoping just a little bit stronger, hold me up a little bit longer. I’ll be fine I swear, I’m just gone beyond repair.”
