He didn't know if he could do it. With each passing moment, it was harder and harder to let her go. He knew he should probably tell her she needed to stay on the train, just imagining that she'd get off the train with him to say good bye, and then he'd want to walk her back on the train to get her settled, and then she'd want to get off again to say good bye again.
But they still had time before the train left and if he just didn't get back on the train, he thought maybe he could do it. It would be hard, but he knew letting her go back to school was what was best for both of them. Again, he reminded himself that it would only be a few weeks before he could see her again... if even that long, depending on if his plans worked out the way he was hoping.
He took her hand and nodded, leading her back out to the platform. He'd have a few more moments to hold her, give her a good kissing to tide him over for the next few weeks, and then say good bye.

(Open compartment!)
Dressed in his usual outfit of jeans and a faded green t-shirt over a black undershirt and outfitted for today's expeditions with his usual sunglasses, a paper mask, and latex gloves Tho was ready for the trip to Hogwarts. Of course he had been ready since 7 that morning so by the time he finally passed through the secrete gate onto platform nine and three quarters he was a little disappointed at what he found. With only a scarlet red train to usher them off the magical school seemed to be looking more and more normal. He had expected dragons or brooms or flying carpets or something at least.
With the smallest of sighs and multiple glances around at all the people he pushed his trolley through the crowd to the train. Luckily he did not own that many possessions he wanted to take with him and so hit trunk wasn't full so he did not have trouble lifting his trunk up onto the train. A few minutes of searching and he found an empty compartment. It took him a few minutes to get the trunk up onto the rack above the seat but once that was done he sat down by the window and looked out at the crowd.
He withdrew a small notebook and a pen from his pockets, watched the crowd for a few more moments, then began to write down his observations by making marking only he could understand.

Allowing herself to be lead from the compartment, the blonde easily followed Drew, as she would nearly anywhere at any time. Trusting him was a high point in their relationship, and she would trust him with everything of her, especially when she all ready trusted him with her heart so easily. Maybe it was a foolish act, as her dad had told her, but she loved him and he made her feel special every day, sent those butterflies spinning out of control by just touching her hands, made her temperature rise with a look, painted a smile on her face by just being near, she was more than sure that was what love was supposed to be, and best of all, she was pretty sure he felt that way too.
But leaving him? At first it didn't sound so bad, but now that it was time, she didn't feel like she was strong enough to do it. Felicity had always been very independent, still was in most aspects, but when it came to Drew, she felt like she needed him. Was she clingy? Yes. Too clingy? Possibly, but she didn't care. She could survive without him, she just felt better and liked it better when he was close.
When they reached the platform, a bit from the train so they wouldn't be blocking anyone from boarding, her arms went right around him, really wishing he could come along for one more year.

Stepping out onto the platform, Maddy was greeted with the same, familiar jolt that was sent down her spine every single time she pictured Hogwarts. She couldn't believe that she was going into her third year at the school, it excited her so much! Even if her best friends; Larissa, Jethro, Sally and Benjamin didn't make it, she felt proud of herself that she did. It almost killed her to know that she was going to be away from her brother and twin sister for another few months, until the Christmas holidays, and maybe that was the reason that she chose to come to the station with only her mother.
It would have been too messy, and Maddy wasn't the kind of girl that liked messy, whereas Eryn was. Nope, tears were one big heck of a no-no. Ugh, it sickened her, she didn't like the whole 'crying' look. Red lips, red eyes, and one big blotchy red face, no, it wasn't her idea of a good look. So Maddy had said 'see you' in the most casual way possible to her sister, biting back on the harsh lump that had formed in her throat. She wasn't going to break, no way, no how.
Maddy seriously thought that she'd let a couple of tears loose while she was with her mother, saying goodbye once again, but with all the excitement that the platform brought, with the train, and all the people, Maddy just couldn't bring herself to emote. She figured that it would have been the same for her mother when she came to Hogwarts, but Maddy knew that she would have cried. The young blonde wasn't like her mother, she took after her father.
Hugging her mother, her face broadened with the goofy grin that was usually seen over her features, Maddy kissed her mum on the cheek. "I see you later, eh?" She winked towards the older lady. "I'll write." Maddy smiled genuinely, embracing her mother for the final time before wandering over to the train. She had already packed her things into the carriages, all she had to do was find a compartment, and chill for the long train trip. That was the bit that she was good at.
Waving as she placed a foot on the train, Maddy grinned, and wandered on, losing sight of her mother, who by now had tears streaming down her face. Maddy would definitely write to her, she always did, as well as Eryn, Jordyn and their father. How could she abandon her family, and not keep in contact.
Skipping joyfully up the aisle, Maddy was brought to a halt in front of a compartment. It must have been her subconscious, for at first, she did not recognize the sound of music. She had just been compelled to stop. Peeking through, an eager expression over her face, Maddy grinned towards the boy, bringing her hands together in front of her to clap. "That was mighty fine. You mind if I take a seat?" She asked, eying the guitar.
[ That'd be for Derrick! ]

A shy grin crossed Josh's lips at Matty's question about his summer. In all honesty, he hadn't done anything. He'd worked around the house and had a little summer job in a book store, but that was about it. There wasn't much to do and he really didn't have school friends he could hang out with, considering he'd never really let anybody in. He could feel the pink in his cheeks deepening and a nervous chuckle had managed to escape. "Oh, it was pretty good, thanks," the shy boy answered, only glancing up slightly as he talked, "Nothing dangerous or mischievous." He finally looked up and flashed Matty his lopsided grin. Turning his attention to the Matty's friend who was also in the compartment. He felt bad about not even really introducing himself to her and realized she was on the floor. He reached out his hand for a shake and to help her up off the floor. "Hi, I'm sorry," Josh said to the girl with a light grin, "I'm Josh." After having brought up the whole 'mischief and danger' thing, Matilda couldn't help but recall a conversation she had had with Lachlan, another Hufflepuff boy in her year, before the holidays. If she was thinking straight, the teenager remembered him claiming that she would be one of the most likely people to get up to some trouble during the holidays. And, in honest truth, she hadn't gotten up to all that much trouble. Not nearly as much as she did when she was in school, that is. There had been a couple of nights where she had snuck out with Jamie to go to a party or a music gig, and of course with Tianne there was always going to be something. But nothing worth mentioning, at least. Looking back at Josh when he did answer, though, the teenager noted on his lop-sides grin - something, funnily enough, she did happen to link back to the boy. When he then turned to Tee, who Matty had failed to notice having fallen to the ground, the teenager stifled a laugh. Ah, that was her best friend, sitting on the ground, her cheeks obviously pink. And though she wasn't exactly sure why, but the girl felt proud to be mates with someone as kind and polite as Josh was being. Hey, she didn't know any better from him, so it wasn't that weird after all.

"Let's write a song that we can sing to and you can lead the choir. And put the hook where it hurts most and you threw a spark that lit the candle. That set us all on fire and sent a flame down the east coast"
Derrick's thoughts were lost as he sang the chorus. Whatever his face looked like he had no idea, in fact Derrick never knew and always wondered at this point. Was it as squashed in pain when he closed his eyes as he imagined or was it more open and filled with warmth. Derrick had always assumed the first due to the fact that no one had ever really approached or spoke to him at all when he was playing; they all stood at a reasonable distance avoiding him but enjoying. At least he hoped that was enjoyment on their faces, personally Derrick had no idea. Derrick continued playing and singing to his hearts content. Out of nowhere Derrick heard clapping. Shocked he looked up and saw a girl standing in the doorway of his compartment. He had of course had people clap for him before but it was never one single person nor were any of the people this close to him. Derrick shook his head tousling his hair and try to shake the look of his face that told a tale. Blinking he made sure that this person was real and realized it was. Derrick shook the surprise from him at last that someone besides the witch that came around with snacks was at the compartment door. She had heard him; something that he had assumed was impossible due to the limited interaction he had with people. Looking her up and down as she spoke he took her all in and making mental notes.
"Thanks and your more then welcome to, as long as you don't mind cats."
He said the last bit in all sincerity because he knew that as soon as she sat Niwa would want to go investigate this new person. It was just the way that his cat was, Niwa had always wandered around exploring there house and the fields surrounding not being a stranger to any who may have been pulled over to the side of the road for whatever reason. It was sad that his cat was more sociable then him in some aspects but Derrick figured that Niwa felt a need to make up for the lack of his social interactions. It was probably odd to even think that but he knew Niwa was smart and had no doubt about it; after all he had spent countless afternoons with him and the cat was probably his best friend. Sure enough Niwa was already up against her leg rubbing his gray fur all over her. Derrick grinned slightly as he stood up and plucked Niwa away from his new rubbing post and placed him in his arms like a small child rubbing his stomach lightly just the way his cat enjoyed.
"Like I said as long as you don't mind cats feel free to enter."
Derrick chuckled and ended it abruptly as he sat back down. How was he talking with this much ease to anyone. Making conversation wasn't his strong point and it usually involved him stuttering like a mad man. Looking over at the girl he eyed her carefully as to so she wouldn't notice. Maybe it was her warm face that intrigued him to tell a tale. She gave of this radiance of confidence and happiness that he really hadn't dealt with before. Derrick would assume that this was it though as he could come up with no other explanation. Derrick took this new person in, well she wasn't exactly new, he had seen her around before and knew that she to was a Hufflepuff. He actually remembered her from when they were sorted. Derrick nearly laughed a little bit about the sorting when he thought about it. It had easily been his most noticeable moment at Hogwarts. He had been received with much applause by the Hufflepuff table and then faded into obscurity with a bit too much ease for even his taste. Focusing back on his new companion in the compartment though he continued to take her in. She was short at least compared to him anyway and for that matter was slim. Her movements denoted confidence and she seemed to fit in her body as if it was meant specifically for her. Now all Derrick really was wondering about was whether it had been curiosity of just courageous indifference on who was in this compartment that had made this girl enter. Leaning back onto the soft padded seat he continued to pet Niwa as he looked up into her blue eyes with his own pair and spoke softly with less confidence as he thought of the simple words he would say.
"I'm Derrick Breckenridge by the way pleased to meet you."
Derrick released Niwa and watched as his cat trotted right back to her leg and he shook his head while chuckling lightly at his friend. Sighing he picked Francesca back up and began to play lightly on her chords without much care. He didn't want to start up in another song with someone here now. That would be rude...wouldn't it? As it is he was checking himself on the introduction what if somehow she knew who he was somehow. Geez that'd be an awkward one considering he didn't know her name. Sighing he continued to play and just hoped for the best. After all what was the worst that could happen in this situation?

Connor pressed his forehead against the window, feeling very child like as he did so. The windows were tinted from the outside, so the passerbys couldn't see him all that well, but he could most certainly see them. The tearful goodbyes were a bit much, and as a few seconds passed by, Connor decided to venture out and see what was what. He made sure to glance at his compartment number as he left, just in case he forgot it once he was done being all... social.
Connor nodded his hellos to people every now and again, feeling better about moving around on the train. Hearing a few familiar voices, Connor popped his head into a compartment filled with... the Gryffindor student leaders? Apparently so, from what he had just heard. " Well, well, well... look who we have here. Two new prefects. " He looked over to Anna, gave her a grin and said, " Fresh meat. " He knew Anna had been the quidditch captain for Gryffindor last year, and as he had been Slytherin Prefect last year it was only Sophia and Henry who were the newbs of the group. He grinned, let himself into the compartment and leaned against the doorway.

When the got to the platform, he put his arms around Felicity and pulled her in close, just wanting to spend these last few moments holding her. The first Hogsmeade trip was usually right around his birthday, and while he had plans to see her before then, this would be the last chance he'd get to have her in his arms like this for nearly three months. This would be the last time he could feel her warmth, smell her sweet hair, kiss her soft skin, and he wanted to cherish every last second he had with her.
Drew really didn't care if anyone else thought they were being corny or melodramatic. None of this was about any of them. The final whistle was going to blow and the train was going to pull away any second now, and the only thing that mattered to him was getting some final moments with Felicity before he finally had to say goodbye.

Being so close to him and knowing it wouldn't be like this for a while made her wonder again about her decision. There was still time to not go back. Or she could even just leave her things on the train and write someone to send them back to her. She could make it work by not returning, she would just have to work twice as hard. But Drew could teach her wand magic and her mum everything else. Her tests would be in June like everyone at Hogwarts did, and it'd be nearly the same, so she really could do it.
But with his arms around her, she knew she couldn't just leave. Why did it have to be so hard? They needed to say goodbye, needed to part from one another, but why? If they planned on staying together, why did it have to be like this? It didn't make sense and it surely wasn't fair. At least it wasn't to her. Maybe Drew thought it was, maybe he needed a little space, a little break without really taking one. Time away from one another. They say time makes the heart grow fonder, but didn't it also make temptations harder to resist? Drew was going into a whole new world where there were a lot of people he didn't know. She was returning with the same old people. And if it was this hard now, she knew it would be worse if she did get the position in Kenya.
Tilting her head back, Felicity reached up with one hand to gently caress the smooth skin on his cheek, letting it lead to where his curls used to be before he had them cut off...and it still felt like bristles. “I'm going to miss you.”

Maddy couldn’t help but feel guilty for interrupting the boy’s singing. She hadn’t meant to barge in, and she hoped that the boy wasn’t too cut up about it. He didn’t seem to want to keep singing while she was there, but it didn’t seem to be something out of shyness. No, the boy seemed confident enough to sing in front of crowds, maybe it was out of politeness, maybe he was intending to speak to her, or to return comments back to those that Maddy was sure to make, whether or not he was reciting the lyrics. Maddy loved music, sure, she couldn’t play anything, but that didn’t mean that she loved it any less. She didn’t really have a voice either, to put it simply and erase any doubts; she liked the listening part of music.
Her eyes tracing the outline of the boy’s guitar, Maddy couldn’t help but grinned, and rock backwards onto her heels. She would give anything to be able to casually strum at the strings, and actually make noises that didn’t make her ears ring in pain. She wasn’t a fan of bad music, no, but she liked all sorts. Pop, rock, alternative, indie, folk, acoustics, they all tickled her fancies. She wasn’t the type to listen to depressive music, but she liked those that had a good beat; ones that she didn’t have to listen to the lyrics to enjoy.
Smoothing down the pants that the girl was wearing, a pair of light denim shorts, reaching an inch or so above her knee, and a blue singlet layered over a white one, Maddy couldn’t help but feel a little underdressed. She had just come from her beach house, and the girl found herself wishing that she had worn her robes to the train, so she wouldn’t have to worry about getting changed later. The girl carried with her a blue backpack that was filled with her many possessions, her wand, a book to read, cat treats, a ball, her robes, a hair brush, a magazine, lollies, and some food for the journey, Maddy always made sure that she was prepared. She wasn’t one to buy things from the lady with the trolley; besides she liked her muggle lollies.
Sitting just behind the compartment door, invisible for the boy to see, was her cat. She had had her cat since her first year, and it had been quite the surprise to her when she received it. It was sent as a gift from her mum, personally delivered by a carrier, not trusted with the talons of an owl. Named Bindi, she was decorated with a brown patch on her back, leaving the rest a brilliant white color, except for a small spot on the tip of her tail and the tip of her left ear. She was a loyal cat, and she got along with almost everybody.
Which is what relieved her most about the cat that was in the compartment with the boy. She was sure there would be no fights between the two, and hopefully, they’d get along, considering they’d be living in the same part of the castle, just in a different dormitory. She had recognized the boy from the start, there had been no hesitations as to thinking he was in her year and house. That night had also been a memorable one for Maddy, as, along with Trixi, and a lot of other first years, they tried to escape the Great Hall, and flee back to their homes. That, thankfully, was unsuccessful.
“Cats? I love ‘em!” She grinned, finally pulling Bindi, in her little ‘home’ as Maddy called it, into view. Making her way into the room, Maddy sat opposite the boy, placing the cat on one side, the bag on the other. “You mind if I let her out?” She said, pulling the compartment door closed, so that Bindi didn’t escape. Unbuckling the small lock that kept her in the box, Maddy scratched behind the three year olds ears, and let her meet the new cat. Tuning back into what the boy was saying, Maddy smiled genuinely.
“Maddyson Cross. But call me Maddy, o’course.”

Derrick had to admit to himself that he was in a bit of shock. This, admittedly, was in truth his first real interaction with anyone at Hogwarts and for it to be a girl just furthered his surprise. As she sat across from him she pulled her baggage in with her and sat across from him and introduced her own cat to him. Niwa was sure to take a liking to it, granted his cat was likely to take a liking to a rock that looked big enough to be a small animal. Thankfully he did not have his cat for mouse catching purposes otherwise he would have been in some very bad luck. Niwa had already followed the girl up into her seat and was examining her cat closely in its carriage. Derrick ran his hand through his hair as he responded to her next question trying to sound as confident as when he sang.
"Feel free to Niwa plays nicely doesn't even really know how to bite to be honest."
Had he sounded nervous he had no idea so he simply hoped for the best as he ran back his last statement in his head trying to remember how exactly he had sounded. Derrick decided that it couldn't be that bad or so he hoped.
“Maddyson Cross. But call me Maddy, o’course.”
Derrick listened carefully to this and closed his eyes for a split second putting the face to the name and even more defining her smile. He would remember this or so he hoped. Just as he hoped he'd actually call her Maddy. He was terrible with nicknames and for the most part actually referred to people as Mr, Mrs, or Miss; if not by their full first name of course. Bizarre he knew but he had never really had any friends close enough to the point where they had even been on a nickname basis. Which granted was quite lame on his part but it was a habit he would have to break or so he hoped. That was if him and this girl even ended up being friends and talking on a consistent basis. This statement was nothing against her but if anything against him. After all he wasn't exactly the easiest person to find let alone hang out with. Granted with her sunny disposition he was sure it wouldn't be a problem. Could he hope for a friend here heck an acquaintance would be great. Derrick was getting ahead of himself as per usual in his thoughts. Sighing at himself he continued to play softly and looked back over at the girl and spoke softly now once more.
"A pleasure to meet you Maddyson."
He had called her Maddyson which wasn't Maddy but in his opinion much better then calling her Miss. Cross. It seemed that way at least. Sighing he smiled lightly as he watched Niwa interact with the new cat. At least his cat would have a new friend regardless. At times he wished he was more like Niwa with his sociability. Even if he had to be a cat it was sure to be more enjoyable then the way he holed up by himself on a constant basis. Although he enjoyed his time to himself he was sure he had been lacking considerably in the social skills department. Sighing again at his own confusion Derrick started to play a little more intently now, quickly becoming lost in the music. It was rude he knew it but he need this moment of clarity more then anything else right now and he was sure she wouldn't mind. After all she had applauded him upon her arrival and it had been the main reason she entered. Derrick didn't intend to sing at all because he was positive that would be even ruder then he was already being but the thought of this didn't last long as he hit the right chords. With his mind processing all of it he opened his mouth without much thought at all and began singing.
"It was the type of feeling that can't be explained the way she moved her lips drove me insane. Now I'm left here in the wake of something more. She made it hard to leave as she stood by the door in a v-neck T-shirt and nothing more than a single tear rolling down her cheek, whoa. Don't go away again, I want to be more than a phone call at 4am. Seems like every time you come back home it's just to steal my heart and leave. Don't go away again, I want to be more than a story to tell your friends. Seems like every time you come back home it's just to make me fall again."
Derrick caught himself at the end of the first chorus and blushed terribly. This was bluntly rude and he knew it. Now though he had no idea what he should really do or say. Looking up sheepishly the normal Derrick seemed to emerge in the apology the formed on his lips and he spit out after he mustered ever scrap of sincerity he had and placed it into his words.
"Sorry about that you don't mind if I sing do you? I mean I'm sure you'd rather talk rather then just listen to me sing or anything of that sort. I mean unless you'd rather me just sing then I guess I could do that or...I don't know."
The truth was he really didn't know and the jumble of words that had escaped his mouth had not really been the plan he had, had for his apology. Although he did give her option this time around. Why even give the option though seeing as he highly doubted she wanted to put up with a whole train ride of him just playing and singing. She'd tire of him eventually and go in search of her friends where ever they may be on the train. Derrick didn't want to keep her from that but didn't want to scare her off at all. After all he was somewhat excited about getting to know this girl. He thought it better for her to answer before he even began playing or doing much of anything again. Setting down Francesca he stared out the window longingly hoping that he had not somehow scared this girl off with his over exuberance.

"Oh I promise I won't get to lonely, however I will probably end up missing you a little bit." Cole said as a huge smile spread across his face. Cole knew that this was true when he said it. There was a connection with him and Delilah that he didn't fully understand but he could understand a little bit of what lay beneath their relationship. He couldn't help but think about all of the possibilities that could happen with them. How he ever wondered how it would work out but he knew if it was meant to it would.
Cole looked up into Delilah's eyes and said"No problem at all to save a seat for such a wonderful friend!" He said very cheerily. Cole dreaded those few minutes where he knew that Delilah would be at the meeting but he decided not to worry about it until the time came. He continued to look at Delilah and smile.

Snorting in laughter, Dustan was quick to clear his throat as though he'd swallowed a bug. It wasn't kind to laugh about something that was the honest truth, even if the truth was ridiculous. Abigail was completely right, people were far too into how and who they were to bother with something that was of actual interest of either themselves or others. Flipping their hair, running fingers through it, batting eyes, eying others, reaching out to touch one another. People were too into who and what people were. The beautiful that all could see, the fake beauty that came of good care and talented eyes, those that pretended to be who they were not, and even those brave souls who did stand for who they were and unfortunately it seemed they could do no wrong no matter how hard they tried to make others see they weren't perfect.
"I--I'll remem--remember to ask if...if I nee--need hel--help." Maybe even if he didn't need the help or she didn't, they could study together. Exams were coming up at the end of the year and they would be spending more time with their noses in books than ever before, at least according to the observations he'd made in the last few years that's how it seemed to go. People filled the library he'd never seen in there before and it was kind of funny, most of the time. Hair pulling, frustrated sighs, rolling eyes, daydreaming, drooling. Amusing for a young man.
But back-up? It surprised him. She didn't remind him of those that got into a lot of trouble, but if she was good at sneaking then it was quite obvious she couldn't get in trouble. A slow grin spread across his face, thinking the company might be nice. While he wouldn't admit to it, he was rather afraid of the dark. Not the darkness itself, but what could be found in the darkness. Embarrassing, but true. Even though he'd already seen ghosts and ghouls, and frightening things that would keep muggles awake for hours, he was still frightened of them. "Tha--that'd be coo--cool. Right...right aft--after the feast, the--then? I--I hav--have to hel--help take every--everyone to the com--common room, but aft--after tha--that?" Or was she jesting with him? "We--we coul--could meet outsi--oustide the entr--entrance hall, on the...on the stairs." Hopefully not.

He closed his eyes and sighed as her finger traced down his cheek. He had shaved that morning, wanting to look his best that day, even though he knew the scruff made him look a little older than 12. The sensation of her touch on his smooth face was enough to make him melt.
And then her fingers playing with the short hairs at his neck. As she slid her hands over the bristles, an enjoyable shiver went up his spine. How in the world could he let her go when she made him feel like that? There was no way he's manage two and a half months without her.
But he knew he had to go. They couldn't be stupid about this and if anything, this would be a practice run for the following years when she was in Kenya and he was finishing his training. If they could survive this year, they could survive anything.
"I'm going to miss you too... so, so much..." he murmured into her soft golden hair. He would write and work on his plans for Halloween, and maybe that would take some of the edge off.

This moment didn't feel at all out of place, in fact, it felt perfectly normal to be clutching onto what was there, or rather who was there. Mothers were holding children, fathers watching with tears in their eyes that would hardly be shed, friends finding one another, lovers clinging and doing the same as she and Drew. Everything felt like they were in the right place at the right time. But she still didn't want him to go or to leave him there. And just letting go of him meant it would be time to leave, the train's engine was roaring and she knew time was winding down fast.
"But we'll see each other soon, right? As long as the trips don't get canceled and I can come home for Christmas this year." And if the school tried to keep her there, she would leave for good without a second look. Drew had been there last year, but this year wouldn't be and she refused to spend Christmas without him, especially when their anniversary was soon after. It was bad enough she all ready wouldn't be spending time with him, she couldn't go much longer without it.
Taking a deep breath, inhaling the scent she loved so much, she thought of something she'd meant to ask him before. "When my sweatshirt doesn't smell like you anymore, can I send it back and you'll send me another one?" she asked quietly, knowing without it she wouldn't sleep very well.
