As Drew stood there, not heading off into the direction Ib had told him to go, the man actually felt admiration for the boy. But, only a little. After all, he wasn't doing as he was told. In a way, that was good, in way, it wasn't. Frowning a little, glowering a bit, he narrowed his blue eyes at the taller male's words.
Andrew was right, Ib didn't have to like him, he didn't have to accept him in the least bit really, other than Felicity would be highly upset if he acted as though the boy didn't exist. Really, had he met the boy under any other circumstances, perhaps if he'd known the boy before Felicity liked him, he might've actually taken a liking to him. But as it was, he hadn't and didn't. That didn't mean that he wouldn't eventually, after all, he got along just fine with his other daughter's husbands, and he and Harold were close friends. Why shouldn't he eventually like this boy, when he'd disliked all of the others so badly at first?
"You compliment my daughter, and yet you still manage to sneak it in there that you're not the type to hurt her when you just acted the way you did over a petty little comment?" True, he hadn't hauled off and punched a wall or anything, but he had seemed to get a bit snippy. With the way Felicity was at times, did he have a choice to believe otherwise when he hadn't seen Andrew act differently about a petty comment? "How else am I supposed to think anything of you, different than how you act, when you're pretty brash about something of the sort? In my opinion, that's a funny way of showing me differently than how you're saying you hope to show me."
Jaw set, lip pursed, he stared at the boy. Felicity liked him, even here at home she hadn't ever liked a boy, and he knew quite a few of them that liked her, he'd had to chase a couple off, and hadn't ever been prouder than when she'd slugged one for trying to kiss her. "You are right, I don't have to like you, and I might not ever like you," he told him, deciding to be straight out as well. "But Felicity does, for whatever reason, and I'd like to think she likes you for the right reasons. It actually puts me at a bit of peace to think that you might treat her right, but with all factors considering, what would you think in my shoes?"
It was a question, not rhetorical, definitely made to answer. "If you were my age, with six children, raising four of your grandkids because you lost two of your family members, your youngest daughter begs to go to some school you know nothing of, and finally, you agree to allow it, and she goes off, writes a bit back and forth with you and your wife, talking about people she meets and becomes friends with, then suddenly she comes home and has two dates set up when she's never even liked a boy before?" Yes, Felicity had told him Lucas was a friend and only a friend, that she was not interested in him, but it was still a date. "And one of those two, you know there's something going on between one and your daughter just from the way she looks at him, asks her to be his girlfriend, and she agrees. You know hardly anything about this boy, he seems nice enough, but then at a party, he's a bit snide about a comment made by one of her friends? On top of that, she's nearly two years younger, and a whole world away from him, innocent, and not very in on how the world can be because you and your wife sheltered her. Tell me how you would feel about that?"
Felicity grinned at her friend, it seemed Celina's mum still had a bit of the psychic mum powers they always seemed to have. "There's nothing wrong with it, love," she told her. "And you shouldn't apologize for being the way you are. Clumsy or not, I love you all the same."
It was almost a strange concept to her, to think of never being allowed near a kitchen. "You don't know how to cook or anything? I mean, there's nothing wrong with that, but your parents haven't ever allowed you near the kitchen? That a bit strange to me, because I learned to cook years ago. I had to of course, for the little ones, but I think my mum would've taught me anyway."
Felicity wasn't bashing her friend, nor her friend's family, it was just strange to her. "And yes, I've got one right here," she dug a clean towel out. It was a dark blue, plain, nothing really wonderful about it at all. "I wouldn't really worry about a mess anyway, mum could clean it up all nice, no problems. Are you all right? I don't think I've ever known someone to cut themselves on a peeler before."

"And if the comment had actually been intended as I first believed it to be?" Drew asked "I thought she was making a disparaging comment and I wanted to put a stop to it. Would you rather I let it pass? What I saw as a veiled insult aimed yes, at myself, but also implicating your daughter?"
And that's what it had been. He thought Celina was trying to push his buttons so he pushed back. And he hadn't even pushed as hard as he could have. His goal had been to point out what he saw as rudeness without coming off so rude himself. A lot of good that had done.
"Sir, I don't know what I'd do in your shoes. I can't answer that," Drew answered earnestly. "But I hope I'd know I raised my kids right... And I hope... I hope I'd trust their decisions.... And I hope I'd... try to get to know the guy better... instead of... instead of trying to scare the snot out of him all the time... especially considering he's not two years older. He's not even a year and a half older." It was a year and 140 days... and that was only because it was Leap Year.
And it was only now that he lowered his gaze, biting his lip and bracing himself to be hit or at very least to be thrown out on his keister.

Celina shrugged and nodded her head. She had been distracted and that was why she had cut herself. Distracted by the fact that Drew had not left the room with them. Distracted at the fact that she was the one who had gotten him into trouble. Now she was sure that he’d be mad with her again. Why couldn’t she just keep quiet? Hadn’t she learned that she shouldn’t speak unless spoken to? Yes, she had. Her father taught her well on that rule, and her brother made her abide by it in his presence half the time as well. That was of course, only when he was really agitated with her, but still. Maybe having friends, was just like having another family. No, it wasn’t a maybe. She should have known.
“I….I was distracted is all….” Celina said back to her friend softly gently taking the towel and pouring the potion on her hand gracefully. Not a drop fell on to the floor, all in the palm of her hand and the dark blue towel. When she was finished pouring she watched as slowly her skin began to regenerate itself. “Do you have a bandage I can put around it? It wouldn’t look right to the muggles I figure if I didn’t have anything on it.” Celina wasn’t stupid. Naïve yes, but she always learned from after being scolded about one thing or another and in this house, everything had to be muggle-friendly. She understood.
As Celina looked up, she shrugged. Felicity has said she loved her for who she was. What did that mean? And why was she Celina’s only friend to seem to then? “I just want to know why Drew doesn’t…..I can never say anything without him yelling or snapping at me most times…” Celina sat on the edge of Felicity’s bed and a saddened expression crossed the girl’s face. Were they just not meant to be friends? Celina could see how they were different, but was it really as bad as a fight every other time they hung out? Even just the little disagreements were starting to get to Celina. It was heart wrenching. Just like when Alfonz became different….even with him she was yelling and fighting. Maybe….maybe it really was her.
Celina had had an idea about friendship when her mother told her to make some friends. People or contacts that could get her somewhere in life by just knowing their names. Celina didn’t know what else was involved. When she had asked Drew a while back, he said a good friend was one that could be depended on, or something like that. When she had asked him what worth had anything to do with it, he just said that she was worth it to him…but what did it all mean exactly? How was she worth it to him? Why, even? He had talked about how they would get into fights as if he knew, and Celina accepted it then. But now, it was as if she opened her mouth and all there was from it were fights. As if everything she said meant something more to him than what she could see. Either that, or he actually thought she was out to hurt him with her soft spoken words. Why would she hurt him? Before this year, they paid little attention to one another.
A solution then spurred in her mind. Alfonz too was upset with her most of break, yelling at her and disregarding everything she said or asked of him. He was keeping secrets and disappearing at random hours of the night. A factor of trust was missing than Celina felt was there at one time, but now gone. “It’s almost as if…” Celina said, getting softer as she continued. “As if he doesn’t trust me….”

"Why do you think a friend of hers would make such implications? Haven't you ever heard of the term? It's not meant to add negative aspects to a person for feeling how they do for another, it's merely a term, perhaps one that could've been more properly named, but it's a common phrase." And it still didn't answer why he'd gotten so mad over it. Well, if he hadn't ever heard the phrase before, it would be quite a misunderstanding, but he had to have heard it at least once before.
What came out of his mouth next was a bit disconcerting. Now he was telling Ib he didn't trust his daughter's decisions? And on top of that, he was standing there telling him he was wrong about the age. The boy was seventeen, Felicity was fifteen, he didn't care about actual dates, all he needed to know right then was that fifteen subtracted from seventeen equaled two. Two years, or at least at the moment, when his daughter was sixteen, it'd be one year, and hopefully be then they wouldn't be together so he wouldn't have to worry about it.
Eyes slightly bulging from holding his temper back, he tried to somewhat stare down the boy. "I trust my daughter's decisions when she knows what's going on. I trust that she's choosing to like someone because she sees them as being good for her, what I don't trust is the boy I don't know standing in front of me telling me I need to trust my daughter's decisions, when he doesn't know anything about what my wife and I went through to keep her from making decisions that could very well hurt her. When he doesn't know what lengths we went through to keep our daughter well informed of things that could happen, and very well would if she wasn't careful?"
And what father in his right mind wouldn't try scaring the snot out of a boy his daughter liked? It was for security reasons. And if that boy kept returning for more, that just meant he was willing to go through all obstacles to get the affection of the girl he liked, putting up with a disgruntled father was hardly anything. "You know what?" Ib started off, deciding he might as well accept the fact the boy wasn't leaving any time soon. "I have an idea. A way you and I can get to know each other. I've invited the Jedynak's to go camping this summer. I always ask my friends, the Cronon's to go with us every year, I think we could do with one more. Why don't you join my friends, and family, on an excursion, and give you and I a chance to get to know each other, if you and Felicity still like each other by the time summer comes around."
It wasn't a wonderful idea, and Ib was near to banging his head against a wall for suggesting it, but it would be the only chance they had to get together any time soon. Summer, if him and Felicity stayed together, that was.
Nodding her blonde head slightly, she found a bandage to wrap around Celina's perfect hand. The blonde was pretty sure no one had actually seen her hand, but it was best to take cautions. Helping, she gently wrapped it around Celina's 'injured' hand, and taped it off. It looked muggle at least, even if there wasn't anything underneath it that needed tending to.
When Celina started talking, Felicity's heart stopped. Celina couldn't understand why Drew didn't love her? She had to have meant as a friend, Celina didn't like Drew, right? She hadn't before...would she now? Felicity didn't think so, but she stiffened slightly, not liking the sound of her friend possibly liking Drew. "He and I get into spats quite a bit, too. I don't think he understands girls very well. Usually I say or do something wrong, and he gets mad, or I get mad at him for saying or doing something, and then he gets mad at me for being mad at him."
All right, so that wasn't how it usually went, but it was a good enough explanation for the time being. "I mean, we get over them, but it doesn't stop them from happening. Like when we went to the festival, he got mad about a locket Lucas gave me. I still don't really understand why he doesn't like it, but he didn't like me wearing it. He kept saying a guy only gives a girl jewelry when he really likes her, but I've told Lucas I don't like him, that I like Drew. And Lucas understood. And I also pointed out that Drew didn't give me jewelry, he actually gave me this snowglobe," she handed the little thing over to her friend. The gold lace it sat on was shining beautifully, and the scene inside was playing out as Felicity had shaken it before handing it to her friend. "I really like this, but I still don't really understand what he meant."
The next words out of her friend's mouth were soft, and she didn't really understand why she would think that way. "Of course he trusts you. He's supposed to be your friend, a friend trusts their friends. It just wouldn't be right if he didn't trust you and was claiming to be your friend, would it?"
Felicity was pretty sure Drew trusted her, but then again, he did get a bit snippy with her friend sometimes. But that didn't mean he didn't trust her, did it? Felicity didn't think it did, but who knew?

Drew kept quiet, not having any reasonable answer for the man... or at least an answer that Drew thought Mr. Hjort would find reasonable. He could have tried to explain that this is what he and Celina did and how he felt she was trying to embarass him. It was a tease Drew hadn't found funny, given the circumstances. Felicity's dad didn't like him. What was funny about pointing out the fact that they had their arms around each other? True, if he had let it go, Drew wouldn't be getting a lecture, but he sure didn't think it would have made things any better than they stood at the moment.
As to the decision making bit, he also kept this comments to himself, seeing nothing good coming from anything he had to say. Did her dad really think it was a good thing to keep Felicity from making decisions? Whether it was to keep her from getting hurt or not, that just didn't sound right.
He was still waiting for the slugging or the butt-tossing or something, when instead came the invitation. Okay, so Mr. Hjort had a way of making even an invitation to go on holiday sound like a demand, but that really wasn't important. "Yes sir..." Drew answered, thinking of a million reasons why he should say no. He could only really think of one reason to say yes, but that reason had graham craker brown eyes and freckles on her nose. It out weighed all of the no's.
Drew didn't even comment about whether or not they'd still like each other. While he was more apt to believe that Celina's jab had been unintentional, Drew felt Mr. Hjort's was not. Still, there was no need to call the man on it. Drew would be calling him on it in six months just by still being around.

Celina just sat on Felicity's bed and absorbed all of what her friend said. She highly doubted that Drew loved her as much as Felicity claimed to. Drew and Celina had never spoken that much, and for that reason alone why should he care as much about her as he did about some of his other friends. It made sense, Celina just wished she had a limit on how much she cared. Her brother always told her she was much to soft and naive when it came to people. Trusting too easily had been one of his arguments but, Drew nor Felicity had never given her any reason not to trust them....right?
Celina thought more and then just nodded her head. "Yea, you're probably right...I hope he's not mad at me though...I didn't mean to insult you guys...." Celina trailed off. It was time for a silent promise to herself. One she had made many times at home, one she found she had to in order to keep peace. Do as she was told, speak only when spoken to, and whatever you do....don't make eye contact. Eyes were the doors into a person's soul, after all. They told all of what the person was thinking or feeling...."Shall we go back to helping then?" Celina said, looking up at her friend and finding that that was probably safe to do. "I wouldn't want to keep you from your other guests."

A demand, a request, in the end it all meant the same. It was demanded the boy's presence be in attendance, it was a request that he put forth whatever effort he found necessary to get to know him, and Ib to know Andrew.
"Very well then," he gave a slight nod, feeling as though he should've just hit his thumb with a hammer. "I'll keep in contact about the details. We usually aim for July, but it depends on my work schedule, as well as Mr Cronon's, and now Mr Jedynak's as well. And I'll make sure to have Felicity explain our usual trip, so you're ready for it and all else."
If he was lucky, the boy would fall out of the boat while fishing and be dragged away by a sea serpent...he could dream. And he reminded himself, it was only if Felicity and Andrew still liked each other, he still didn't like acknowledging them as a couple, they just liked each other, that was it. And if he acted like that around his daughter, well, he knew she wouldn't stand for it.
Giving the boy leave, he was still regretting the offer. That would mean they would have to spend time together, and that was a horrid thought because he knew Felicity would be upset if he didn't try to get along with him while in her presence.
"It wasn't an insult Celina," Felicity defended her friend. "It's what it's called, isn't it? I don't know what Drew was thinking, but he probably heard you wrong or something. I mean, puppy love is what it's called in movies and books. And people go around saying it quite often, so I guess it could be used for us," she continued, slightly knitting her eyebrows. If Drew didn't like it though, she supposed she shouldn't say it, to him or to anyone else about him either.
"All right, let's go back to the kitchens," she agreed, taking up her friend's non-bandaged hand. "But I think they could probably wait, most of them are my parents friends, or family. There are a few people down there though that I think you should meet. They're really nice, I don't like mean people very much." With a smile, she started to lead her friend down the other stairwell. "I want to take a look to see if dad's done talking to Drew."

He'd bring a tent, he'd bring his sleeping bag, he'd bring his hiking boots. It was a camping trip and he was pretty sure he'd have no problem being ready for it. Drew wasn't sure what there was to explain, but he didn't comment on that part either.
"Yes sir... thank you," Drew answered before retreating to the kitchen, his head hung low. he wasn't sure what he had thanked the man for, but it seemed like something that needed to be said.
He got back to work without saying a word, not even raising his eyes to look at anyone. He felt like a stupid little kid who had been scolded and when it came down to it, he still wasn't sure he deserved the reprimand. He glanced up briefly, noting that he was the only guy in the whole room. That didn't make him feel all that great either. "Where's Felicity?" he asked quietly, knowing that she had been there, but now, had seemed to disappear.

Well of course, there really wasn't much to explain, but Ib figured on the boy as never having been camping, fishing, hiking, nor horseback riding before. It made him almost feel good to think that, that there was a glimmer of hope of Felicity disliking the boy for not being a camping type, especially as she did love to camp. So, he figured she would have a lot to explain to him, though he didn't enjoy the idea of giving his daughter even more reason to spend time with Andrew.
Ducking down the stairs carefully, she saw her dad was greeting some more guests, and she quickly turned around and pulled Celina back up to the floor they were previously on before dragging her to the other stairwell, closest to the kitchens.
"Drew's not with dad, so I hope that means he's back in the kitchens, otherwise..." she trailed off. Felicity wasn't about to tell her friend it meant Drew was probably on his way home right then, she was sure Celina would blame herself for it, so no reason to say it unless he wasn't in the kitchen.
Alyssa had kept her eyes right on the boy as soon as he'd walked back to his work spot, it didn't look as though his talk went very well with Ib. "The princess is showing Celina her room, it's kind of nice, cozy really," she added with a bit of jest, wondering if he'd seen it. Of course, she highly doubted it, with the way Felicity's parents were, Drew probably had never been off of the first floor. "I'm sure your girl will be down in a minute or two. She's not usually one to show off her room, if anything she prefers showing off bugs she's caught or a new injury from playing some sport or other."

Her hand was still tender from the cut. A side effect from the potion. Celina sighed wishing that it would just go away. It was a reminder of her faults, or at least for the Raven girl it was. She'd say nothing about it though, but as Felicity took her other hand to lead her down the stairs she hid her hand in her pants pockets slightly. She didn't want to be asked any questions, but at the same time she almost knew they would come.
As Felicity saw her dad, but no Drew, Celina was glad that their talk must have been over. Celina was hopeful that it wasn't a bad one, but at the same time, she was scared to even walk in the presence of Drew. Would he be mad at her? How could she apologize correctly? Her nerves made her focus more on her hand, which now she couldn't tell if the stinging was more her imagination than reality. She had to have something to focus on, so focusing on pain that wasn't really there was better than Drew being mad at her. Letting go of Felicity's hand, she rubbed her bandaged one a little without even thinking.
But as she rethought of what Felicity said, she caught a word that made her a bit uneasy. 'Otherwise...' "What?" Celina asked her, eyes opening a bit wide in slight fright. "Otherwise...what?"

Drew nodded back but said nothing, trying to keep his focus on the job he was doing. There wasn't much to say anyway. He knew that the others were looking at him, casting furtive glances in his direction trying to gage how things had gone with Felidity's dad. Drew tried his best to keep from showing that the whole incident had bothered him, but he was afraid he wasn't doing very well. He worked on the platters before him, biting his lip and thinking of what was in store for him, spending a week out in the woods with Ib Hjort.

Her Ravenfriend caught it, which didn't really surprise her, but at the same time she didn't want her to have caught it. She sounded worried now, and it was Felicity's fault. "...Otherwise..." she trailed off, distracted by her thoughts of where Drew could possibly be: on his way home to his sister's apartment, on her front doorstep, in the middle of an embarrassing crowd, in a fight with Jacob who she wouldn't put it past, being forced to dance with Cherry who she would have a talk with if it were, being driven insane by any of her nieces or nephews. "Otherwise, I don't know where he is."
That was the truth, if he wasn't in the kitchen, Felicity had absolutely no idea where he'd be. So, as the kitchen was her best bet since he was no longer with her dad, that's where Celina and she were going to go. Leading the girl down the staircase, she slowly crept the closer to the bottom she got. If he wasn't in there, she was going to be running back upstairs to look out a few windows.
For a moment, she didn't see him and was about ready to skip the search looking out the windows and instead go talk to her dad, when she finally caught sight of the back of his head. Yes, that was him.
Weaving her way through the kitchen, though tempted to run she refrained, she put Celina where she'd been before, folding cold cuts, the girl couldn't possibly get hurt from doing that, could she? The blonde didn't think so, and took up Celina's station with the carrots, which she was thankful to note was right next to Drew.
The look on his face wasn't comforting, but all the real comfort she needed was that he was still there, and hadn't been requested to leave, nor left on his own accord. Before starting where Celina had left off, she gently brought her hand up and moved her fingers in a scratching motion against his back.
"Are you all right?" she asked quietly, hoping he wasn't mad at her.

Drowning... A hunting accident!... Carried off by a bear?... Why, the boy wandered off and got lost in the woods, Mrs. Thornton. We searched for days but have no idea what happened to your son... Of course the possibilites were endless, so there was no way of figuring out what Felicity's dad was thinking at this point.
Her touch startled him, causing him to flinch, and he could imagine Mr. Hjort's voice echoing through his head, yelling at him to get his ruddy hands off of his daughter. He nodded in response, but the best that he could do towards a convincing smile was a tight pursing of his lips and a shifty look that barely met her eye.

Frowning slightly, Felicity didn't much like the response she received from Drew. Why was he flinching? She hadn't tried to hit him, but her own reaction was to quickly drop her hand, not sure what exactly it had been that she'd done.
His smile hardly reached her, nor did her eyes. Had it really gone that badly between her dad and him? If it had, she'd be having quite a talk with her father, he had no right to frighten Drew. Felicity didn't care if he didn't like him, she did.
Taking a furtive glance her mum's direction to make sure her gaze wasn't on them, she leaned forward a little and a pressed her lips lightly against his arm, before gently resting her head against it for a moment.
"Are you sure?" she asked, wanting confirmation that he wasn't ready to leave. Why her dad was giving him such a hard time, she didn't know. True, he'd given her sister's boyfriend's hard times as well, but it seemed he was going all out on Drew. It wasn't in the least bit fair.

When she leaned against him, Drew tensed up, bracing for a fist that he was sure was coming. Her dad would burst into the room and that would be the end of it. Mr. Hjort wouldn't have to worry about them staying together until summer. Felicity couldn't date a dead Ravenclaw, right?
She asked if he was all right and he had answered at first with a yes-- his flesh and bones were intact for the time being. But she asked if he was sure and he had to shake his head in a negative, every so slightly as if afraid of giving it away to anyone else in the room.
