Where was the balance in this, if any? Maybe she asked too much, took too much, gave too much-- or was it all at the same time. It was a dizzy swirl with confusing tears. Shay couldn't keep things straight in her head, much less push away what had happened not too long ago in the winter occaison of the Festival of Yule. The whiteness of the snow. The smiles of the people. His eyes.... his words.
By now she had enough of it. It took a quick apology to the DP photographers and a slip out by apparition to shoo her into her apartment in Wendelring and keep her there for the rest of the night. For what? To cry and feel upset because of Alfonz. This time was cruel, for it was nothing joyous and it was just ruinous to the good mood and cheer of the season. Shay could be okay up until she could imagine the confrontation between her and the quidditch player.
Somehow it wasn't feeling right to just start bawling. She could cry hysterically if she tried. Yet all she could find to do was sit on the couch, find the throw blanket, and cover herself as she took to the lame fire in the fireplace and get some tears to be silent in their falling. It was easy; maybe too easy.
She just didn't want to clearly identify what this heartbreak was.
(Oh, you know it's open.)

A cold sweat soaked the dark haired girl's bed. Her dark eyes shot open as she sprang up out of bed screaming bloody murder. He had been there. A thin line of blood trickling out of the side of his mouth, as he lay motionless on the cold snowy alleyway. Her brother, Alfonz Jedynak, dead without any reason or any sign of help from anyone.
Celina found herself running into Alfonz's room before she knew that she had gotten up out of bed. Tears streamed down her face as she found herself only wanting to hold her dearest brother to make sure he was in fact all right and not as her dream portrayed him to be. However, as she opened his door with a slight bang, and jumped into his bed....Alfonz was no where to be found. Her head hit his pillow as she found herself crumpling in his bed, looking for any essence or sign of him that would tell her that he was alive and well. Alfonz's scent still lingered on the bed, but she knew that didn't mean anything per say.
Getting out of bed, Celina couldn't stay in the apartment by herself. Even though Emerald was there, she couldn't be alone...not with her dreams plaguing her as they were. Throwing on a pink, silky robe over her pajama tank, and pants, she scouped up Emerald and flew out of the apartment looking for anyone for comfort. Knocking on the apartment of her friends, the Thorntons, she could only hope that they were there and could help ease her night terrors; even if they didn't like Alfonz.
Knocking on the door rapidly, tears still streamed down her face. Where was Alfonz? Why wasn't he home yet? And why was she having such dreams? Celina didn't know, but what she did know was that she couldn't be alone.

The fire was close to dying; the glowing embers were the most to provide warmth. But Shay kept herself to the couch, only taking a few times to dry tears and adjust herself to keep from pains and sores. It was hard to really focus on her confrontation with Alfonz if she wanted to. Her weepings tended to fluctuate until she had her head rested to the side and her eyes wet but tired, longing for some sleep. That was getting accomplished until she heard a knock on the door.
It was a startling sound, accompanied by a startled gesture. Instantly she pulled the blanket off of her, and stood up, adjusting the wrinkles of her clothes that she never bothered to change out of. In some part they were still moist with the snow of the season. Just a pinch of bewilderment to her eyes, and she was feeling dirty in her attire.
She couldn't tell if Brittany or Allegra were around, but she still raced herself to the door to open it up. For some reason, she found if she could get to the door, whoever was at the door would release her of the romantic heartbreak. If she saw Alfonz, though... it would go against what she wanted to sights on, even if she did hope he would come. The vicious cycle-- she hoped she wasn't thrown into some loop.
Through the peephole, she didn't see the fisheye-version of the mystery man, but rather... his sister? Celina looked just terribly frightened with her cat and her vulnerable state. Shay barely thought of wiping her own tears before opening the door wide to the girl. "Celina? What's wrong, corazon?" She sniffed sharply and took on her light, concerned tone. Shay saw no reason in acting hostile to her.

Sniffling, Celina clutched Emerald close to her as the door began to open. Celina didn't know exactly who was behind the door, but she almost hoped for either of the Thorntons. At least she knew them, and could speak with them or sit with them until Alfonz returned home. However, a very pretty, yet familiar woman opened the door. It was Shay, Alfonz's friend and Allegra's roommate. Celina looked around the woman for any sign of the Thorntons, as she tried to wipe her face from the tears of fear she shed.
"I....I....don't know wher....where he is....and.." Celina tried to calm herself as she noticed that Shay too, seemed as if she had been crying. It must have been a really bad time for the both of them, and instantly Celina felt rude and intrusive. "I'm sorry...I didn't know...." Celina made no sense as she apologized for coming over unannounced. Backing up a bit, she was prepared to turn and leave. There was no reason to bother Alfonz's friend, especially when Alfonz refused to talk about her or what happened in Diagon with Celina. It was none of her concern, after all.

"Ooh," Shay began, opening her door wider to the girl when she discovered her fears for Celina's fears. It didn't hit her just how close the siblings were, and just a bit of separation caused anxiety for the younger one. She wondered briefly where Alfonz would have gone or if he was feeling just as anxious, but it wasn't there long when Celina was gearing up to go. Shay reached out to put a hand on Celina's shoulder. "No, no, no, no, no... You weren't bothering me." In a quick flash to lifted her other hand to rub away the fallen tears and regain some composure. The more she stood there with a cold, wet face, the stupider she was feeling.
"Come in! Look," Shay stepped back to let her in, "You may stay here as long as you like. Maybe you would like some water? Tea? Milk? Coffee?" She seemed to rattle off an entire menu, but the it was just the case of the rambles. Her voice still sounded slightly shaky, but she tried to hide it with quick words. Though she had wanted to indulge herself with a good cry, she didn't see how that was more important than consoling the younger girl. If anything, she could help herself by helping her first.

Celina still felt a bit awkward as Shay placed her hand on her shoulder and invited her in. Was this a bad time? Should she have even thought about going to the neighbors when she found that Alfonz had been missing? Celina held her cat closer, nuzzling the black fur in her face and nodded her head. She couldn't go back to the apartment, not yet. Not with the dream. What if Alfonz really was.....she wouldn't think about it....she couldn't.
Celina walked in slowly to the familiar apartment she had visited before, as Emerald struggled to breath and get away from the ebony haired girl. Letting her down to run, Celina wrapped her arms around herself and softly said..."water, please." Her voice cracked, and her throat dry from her cold sweat she found her way over to a chair and sat down, curling up into a bit of a ball.
"I'm sorry....I just....he's usually not....." brining her knees closer to her chest, Celina wrapped her arms around them and buried her face into her knees. "....I had a bad dream..." she said softly.

Somehow she just didn't want to leave Celina alone for a second, if only to have a constant presence for a while. Shay followed her to the living room and point her wand out to the opening of the kitchen. A few muttered words and not only had she summoned a glass, but she had put forth water from her wand. Handing it right over to Celina, she put herself back in the couch, although she sat with a visible concern.
Shay knit her eyebrows and half-frowned. "Bad dream, huh." She looked away for a second, not wanting the girl to see her saddened face. Coming back to her, though, she went on forward. Nightmares, whenever they came, had a bad effect on her as well. She wouldn't tell her this, but they were ominous and often felt like premonitions, even if the chances of them happening were actually slim. "May I ask what it was about?"

Celina kept holding her knees, still in shock from the dream, her brother's absence, and the fact that she was probably not somewhere she should be. But she couldn't help it. Celina didn't want to be alone, not when her brother's dead face still plagued her memories. Why would she dream such horrific things? She didn't want Alfonz dead, so why then? She gave a shaky sigh, and as she felt Shay's presence hand her the water she asked for, she lifted her face up slightly and gently took the glass of water. "Thank you," she whispered taking a sip from the glass.
It shook in her grip and to steady herself, she put her legs down and held the glass with both hands starring into the water.
Bad dream, huh? May I ask what it was about?
Celina hesitated. Did she tell her dream? What if Shay thought that Celina wanted Alfonz to die? A chill ran along Celina's spine as she shuddered and shut her eyes tightly, a tear being released as she did so. "It....it.....it was horrid," Celina started, her tone soft but terrified. "It was cold and dark, and I was like walking or something......I came.....I.....he was just laying there...." tear after tear began to fall again, but she controlled her sobbing enough to tell her dream.
"Then, I could see his face.....his eyes were open, and glossy......" Celina covered her face with one of her hands, leaving the other to hold her glass of water. "....the worst part was the blood......it.....it.....I couldn't tell if it was dry or fresh.....but it was coming from the side of his mouth as he lay in the cold darkness." Celina realized then that she hadn't said who she was talking about, but she couldn't. If she said that it was Alfonz, Celina feared that that was how someone would find him. Cold, alone....and no longer among the living.

Shay looked straight at the girl as she sputtered out her words. Each of them more frightful than the last. She couldn't help but admit it... but it gave her a quick chill down her spine. She wrapped her blanket around her to heat herself up. Maybe it was the cold. That's what she would have wanted to assure herself with.
"Who is 'he'?" She asked her reluctantly, thinking about putting a face to the male character of Celina's dream. Then when one quick guess came over her, she fought with herself to put up the hunch. But nobody else would come to her mind. "Wa-Was it Alfonz you were thinking of?" Just hazarding the guess gave her a bad feeling. Shay just wasn't all that keen to thinking about him so soon. But it seemed to change the circumstances when his sister was right in front of her.

As Shay said her brother's name, Celina whimpered and nodded her head. Her eyes closed, allowing some tears to cross her cheeks once more. How could she dream such awful things? She didn't want him to die. They were just fighting was all. Felicity said that was perfectly normal. So, why then, did it feel so off?
Celina lifted the glass to her lips and took another shaky sip from the water. She noticed that Shay was wrapped in a blanket, and her tear stained face from before came into Celina's mind. Had she had a bad dream, too? Probably not about Alfonz, but a dream that caused her great discomfort as well? "Did you have a nightmare?" Celina whispered through her silent tears, looking blankly into Shay's eyes, as if she were afraid the woman would too, disappear at any moment.

"Not exactly," Shay said, feeling a bit of discomfort in having Celina watching her. It was as if she didn't want her to know how she felt just by her face. Quickly she looked down and examined the threading of the forest green blanket. She didn't want to find out for herself if Celina possessed power in her stare as Alfonz. And if she did... well it would be extremely hard to place her eye contact on the girl.
"Look, Celina," Shay began, her accent allowing her to pronounce the girl's name in a different yet similar way, "I'm sure he's absolutely fine. You know how busy he can get sometimes..." It was hard to find an excuse for Alfonz's absence, especially since she didn't know of his whereabouts either. There was no doubt in her mind that it was odd, though, to know he was gone like this. She was even a little... worried. "Perhaps he had a quick affair to attend to."

Celina turned away from Shay as the oder woman looked away from her. Had she done something wrong? "Yea...you're probably right," Celina whispered. It was just a bad dream, and they didn't mean anything more than that. At least that's what Celina hoped. "I think I'm going to go home, until school starts...." Celina thought to herself out loud. She nodded, and took another sip of her water.
Celina didn't want to go home. It was not the most pleasant place for her to be, but at the moment, even with Alfonz it seemed to be hard. Looking back up at Shay, she smiled and softly asked her, "Do you believe people can change who they are, or what they think, by being scared?" Celina never knew Alfonz to act the way he did. It had to be that he was scared. Of what? That was what Celina also wanted to know.

Celina presented the idea to herself, but she didn't seem all too excited for it. At least that's what Shay represented. She figured if she was more enthusiastic, she would have explained more about her home or even left to pursue it. It seemed more like a wandering thought, however, and Shay wasn't sold on her leaving or her ambition to do it.
Shay thought of her own home, and how she did want to come back to it. Not because she didn't like Europe or her living situation-- it was all comfortable and convienant. But Xalapa was the place of her upbringing and development before she knew she was a witch. Everything had been reduced to a dream now. It was almost like being a tourist, because it was the place she could associate with rest. Not before, not two years before. But with it far from her fingertips and her life getting established in the UK... all she wanted was to be there to rest.
But Celina's question struck her in her stance. Somehow she thought back to Veracruz and California and London and how much it took for her to move around. That was a change definitely, but she wasn't sure if it was out of fear. But then she went back to it again. Was it really? It wasn't a conventional form of fear-- she was anxious, she was unsettled. That's why she decided to go from A to B. Her initial response would have been no, but after a pause for that double take, she thought she could only come up with this answer to be true to the both of them. "It's not really fear that motivates change, I don't think. It's more of this instinct that you think something won't work well if you don't get yourself to do something else. It's hard to explain... but change happens through this odd catalyst, and fear is definitely one of them. Other than that, anything can occur and it won't necessarily make the person change..." She paused, unsure why she wanted to. "... that usually makes them thick skulled."

Celina looked at Shay a bit puzzled. Was she saying that fear clouded a person's judgments? That would be the same as saying they were thick skulled...wouldn't it? Celina wasn't much liking the terminology being used by the woman, and almost wondered if any of the Thorntons were in the apartment or not, but then decided that it wasn't for her to be asking for another's opinion when she herself agreed with the one being given. Yes, fear could make people do things. Professor Brady had even told her that in their interview. She really hadn't believed him then, and actually thought he was not only a bit full of himself, but also a bit nuts. But if he was speaking the truth, and Shay was also saying that fear, among other emotions, could cloud one's better judgment, then that would ultimately lead to Celina's conclusion and the reasonings to why her brother was acting so differently. Alfonz was afraid...but what was he afraid of?
Celina looked away from the woman, once more starring into her glass of water. She had never known her brother to be afraid of anything. Alfonz had been her stone wall, never crumbling or giving in, even when times were at the toughest. So, what had changed? Was it only the incident with Brady or was it more? And if this was what had changed Alfonz, then it had changed what he felt his basic instincts were. What he felt was needed to be done to survive....or as Celina then realized, he felt was needed to be done to keep those he loved alive.
It was hard to explain for Shay, but Celina felt as if she knew it just from what she had been told by so many people. Now the only person left to talk to was Alfonz himself, unfortunately, she had tried and he wouldn't open up to her. He was like a locked vault with no key. And if she couldn't open him, then who could?
"May I ask....how close are you and my brother?" Celina whispered, stretching for anything that could hopefully bring Alfonz out of the mist that was surrounding his judgment. She knew it was direct, and probably really inappropriate of her to ask of this woman information that she wasn't privileged to, but if it kept her dream becoming a reality, Celina would do anything she felt was necessary.

Shay gulped quicker than she realized, and had to calm down a cough to a simple clearing of the throat. That in itself sparked the tough spot in her throat, the kind that made you feel like you were going to cry. Although she wasn't about to cry about one question.
For a long time when she was a little bit younger, she had a hard time crying. It would never come. But when her parents divorced and she was feeling and seeing distance from her boyfriend at the time, she sort of put together time for herself to just release it. It wasn't easy to pull down those barriers even when she was the only person in the room, but she did. Yet a this point in time she was glad she didn't find reason to cry for everything.
But this was a perfect time for no words. She fell silent for that moment following Celina's question. Of course she could sort of explain the situation to her best friends and roomates, but this wasn't necessarily a gabfest. In her eyes, she thought that feelings could be hurt at any moment there. And she wondered about that.
Would the truth-- however subjective it might turn out to be not to mention distorted and confusing-- actually hurt her?
"Well... we were very close," Shay ventured, monitoring Celina's general actions. As she got more into thinking about it, though, she couldn't see why or how it would impact the girl. At least negatively. However, it also got progressively harder to explain it. "And, uh... we had a... mutual... romantic attraction." To get it out was a relief, especially since she didn't want to dance around the notion just as everyone had. Yet it still bothered her that the terms were simple, but they didn't sound deep.
Admit it, you were-- no, are-- practically infatuated with him.
"I don't think it's the same now, though," she added as if she corrected herself. Somehow she thought that maybe that would help, but it almost hurt.
