(You're on the right track ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ) Thankfully everyone got out alive, full, and happy. As the adults had trekked into the tiny kitchen for some tea, they left behind Charlie, Hiro, Dan, and Mike. Mike had finally quieted down, obviously sedated under the food's influence, and Dan had been first to strike up some conversation. "So what's it like with OWLs here? Is it as bad as the MOLEs in America? They just put in an essay for us to write. I can't really wait." Charlie rolled her eyes. She knew Dan loved things like term papers and grueling testing. "From what I heard, it's an all day thing. We do exams and demos. No essays, I think."

Hiro had to keep himself from laughing, Americans took something called the MOLEs. Of course Dan probably found the fact that they took OWLs funny too.
"We have to practice what we preach so to speak." Hiro answered after Charlie. "I'm a little nervous about the demonstration part actually." He admitted.
"So your tests are exam based? That's pretty cool." Hiro continued the conversation, he was much better in the written part than he was the practice for the most part.

"Not unless you're a total nerd," Charlie blurted out, but really meant nothing by it. And Dan played it off well, giving him a comeback of his own.
"Sorry if you're so incapable to answer simple questions. Hey, Charlie, what do you put in a boil cure potion?" Dan had the smirk, and looked at her expectantly to screw up.
Like it has been said, it was a good comeback. Just not good enough. "Duh, dude. That's firstie material. Put in the dried nettles, crushed snake fangs, horned slugs, and.... uh...." She snapped her fingers. "Porcupine quills! You might wanna clutch your MOLE grade in fear."

(Gone on vacation)
Hiro had gone silent at the total nerd comment. He convinced himself that it was his abilities that made him perfer tests not his nerdiness (which Charlie seemed to think was negitive). Hiro thought about making a remark along the lines of 'if it was so easy why'd you have trouble with it' though it seemed like that would be a bad choice all around, he'd probably end up sleeping in the streets for the rest of the visit. Instead he decided to move the conversation away from school.
"So who knew that Chris would have a special friend already?" Hiro said as if he was part of the family. Even though the Jones' were friendly people he still felt that he crossed the line with this one. He apologized under his breath and wished he knew how to apparate.

(no problemo. Heh, I wrote this since the school library ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ) The Joneses weren’t fazed by Hiro’s question. In fact, they delighted themselves in discussing it as well. "That's what I've been wonderin’,” Mike said, clearly interested in the subject. “I thought he lost all his mojo back in high school.” “Whatever, Mike,” Dan said, taking off his glasses and rubbing them with his shirt. “He had two girlfriends from the time he graduated. Even went steady at one point.” “Steady’s overrated,” Mike quipped. “He had the real babes and stuff.” Charlie had to roll her eyes at that. Who said “babes” anymore? “First, the way you use babes is almost derogatory. And second, Alyson’s very pretty,” Dan said, a hint of a blush coming on his cheeks. “And third, you haven’t gotten a girl of your own. So shut it,” Charlie added on. “You don’t know nothing, Charlie. I got a girlfriend,” Mike said rather defiantly. “She broke up with you, Mike,” Dan said with a smirk. “She said—and I quote—‘You’re such a freakin’ pig, Michael! Go date someone of your own species rank.’ And that’s when I fell in love.” Dan laughed, and so did Charlie. “Guuuessss what time it is now?” Tobias said as he got there after their laughter. “It better be what I think it is,” Charlie said with an increasing smile. “Gift time?” “You betcha!” Tammy came through next, bringing along some gifts herself into the living room. Following suit, Chris and Alyson entered, looking mighty comfortable as she hugged him. Let’s run down these gifts, alright? Mike and Dan gave their stuff, Mike being the one with intentionally dull (like socks for Charlie— “’Cause your feet smell, dude.”) or novelty gifts (genuine x-ray glasses for Chris— “Tell me it’s different for Euro-chicks.”). Dan had his usual assortment of books and such, and even gave a best-selling novel in Braille for Hiro as he was sincerely generous like that. Chris dug his pockets out and frowned at them all, telling them that he’d make it up to them later on. Alyson gave a small painting for the Jones household. As for Tammy, she gave them all gift cards (“It’s the thought that counts, hon.”). And Tobias gave them all homemade candy, keen to everyone’s specific taste. And at last Charlie gave them sporty stuff, like a toy Muggle basketball wastebasket hoop for Chris and such. For Hiro… “Dude, you’re hard to shop for…” Charlie said as she taken her present to him out. As she had gone and shopped around for him, she realized how little she had known of his interests. Also... what was a a safe gift? And so in the box was a nice cooking set, complete with cutlery, spatula, whisk, spoons, pots and pans, etc. It was something set more for a college person, but it was the right size. Thanks to Toby, he had brought it for her from the US. "Hope you like this... I'll let you figure it out, just don't touch the knives." How long did it take for her to realize she partially let the cat out of the bag?

"Thank you." Hiro said to Dan and Mr. Jones, it'd be nice to read something other than a text book during breaks. "This is for the Jones'."
Hiro pulled out a package he had from his trunk and gave it to the adults. Inside was a decorative wine holder. Hiro wasn't sure if they had wine bottles or anything like that but if they did the Jones' now had a place to put them. He then started to open Charlie's gift with care because of her warning. He ran his hands over several cooking supplies and utensils.
"Thanks Charlie." He said once he knew what they were. "You'll have to help me break them in when we get back. This is for you."
He pulled out another gift and handed it to her. Inside the package was a wizard snowglobe that when shaken the quidditch players within would fly around. Also a subscription to quidditch monthly. Alhana and Drew both help him pick out the gifts.

The ends of Charlie's mouth widened into a smile. "Thanks," she said, wrapping her hands around the base of the globe and shaking it until she could clearly see the qudditch players whiz around busily in the small yet idyllic field. "I love it... dude."
She also had to thank him profusely for the subscription. Unfortunately, a few months back Drew had caught on to her pilferings and he had hid his qudditch magazines so that she would take them again.
And so the holiday came out as well as everyone thought. The fireplace warmed the place up, and everyone seemed to surround themselves around it. Christmas songs were sung, and if Hiro needed help on the lyrics, the Joneses were more than happy to teach them to him. And when it came time for the annual holiday photo (as tradition called for it), they scooped everyone in it, bunching Alyson next to Chris, and Hiro to Charlie.
"Say Weasley's Wizard Wheezes!" Tobias said as he ran from the camera to the ensemble of the family for the bright flash to go off.

(Have exams soon so I've been busy)
Hiro finally had an understanding of what Christmas was all about, it was a holiday of joy with loved ones. It was sure nice to find out how others celebrate this holiday all he knew was how taoists celebrate. Once he learned the lyrics of the carols Hiro listened mostly to Charlie, he had never heard her sing before. Hiro decided that this was his first real Christmas as he and Charlie bunched together along with the rest of the Jones family for the picture. If no one else at least his smile was a real one in the picture.
(Is this thread gonna die or do you still have a plan for it?)

(I'm thinking that ending it works out. Unfortunately, I have no ideas past that, and it's funny that we're already in IC May) (oh yeah, and I've got exams this week, too)
It was a good ending to a good holiday. The best part of it was that there were hardly any arguements or such, save the sibling rivalry. And as the majority of the Joneses and Alyson left as soon as the place was cleaned, all that was needed was a great night's sleep and the two would be off to Hogwarts again. Charlie would let Hiro know that he was welcome to stay at her house whenever, no questions asked. After all of the day's events, it was pretty definite that everyone enjoyed themselves and the spirit of Christmas.
