"So this is it, huh?" Charlie said outloud as she looked around from the fireplace. She scanned the contents of the tiny flat. It was pretty standard, with it's kitchenette and small living room. She knew that it was a two bedroom, since Chris was going to start looking for a roommate, but she wanted to take the tour very badly. There was still a little problem though.
It all started from the school. When Charlie had surprised her father with the suggestion of having Hiro over for the holidays, he owled right back at her, telling her that Chris was already starting the move to his new apartment and that all she needed to do was take Hiro and herself to his apartment. Though slightly disappointed that she couldn't see her family right away, especially since she hadn't had the chance to hang with her brother the one chance she was in Hogsmeade, she didn't let on about why she was upset.
Still, she had Hiro and her floo into Chris's apartment, seeing as she would expect them all to be there. But no such thing had happened. "Chris? Chri-is!!" Her footsteps were made audible as she briefly looked a door that was across the kitchen. No one. They were alone. She knew that her father and the rest of her brothers were gone because they had been dragged to some Christmas shopping with Tammy (where she would try to be slick and run off to buy her presents when she said she was looking at shoes). But still... their welcome felt cold.
"Uh... Guess Chris went out," She said as she hid her further disappointment. "Wanna make yourself at home? I'll see what Chris has in his kitchen. Want something to drink or somethin', Hiro?"

After a short stay with Charlie's...intresting uncle (guessing that's where we floo'd from) they had floo'd to Chris' London flat. To Hiro's experience the Jones' were a loud and active family which is why it felt a little weird to arrive to an empty apartment. Hiro and Charlie hung out plenty of times together but this time it was something new which made Hiro nervous though he did his best to hide it, he wasn't sure if he could mask himself for the whole break but fortunately the brothers usually drew a fair share of attention.
"Pumpkin juice if he has it, otherwise water is fine." Hiro replied as he set his case down. He didn't try and put it anywhere particular and just stood by it ready to move it to where ever Charlie suggested. It was hard for him and Flicker to be at home in this place.

"'Kay!" Charlie exclaimed as she disappeared behind the kitchen. As she searched the absent pumpkin juice, she sighed to herself. She wasn't sure why she felt so anxious to have Chris come home quick, but she hoped not to think much of it.
Seconds later, she came out with some water. "All he has is bread and for some reason, potatoes." She handed the glass of water to Hiro. "If you want to sit, there's a chair a li'l to the right of ya." She couldn't believe that despite the trunks and boxes, the place still looked bare. It was odd to have a fireplace in such a modern apartment, but she guessed that this place was pretty magical because she had spied some people in robes outside a window.
"So yeah..." Charlie searched for something to talk about. He was the guest, of course, and she had to entertain him some way. "So the folks were really alright I kidnapped ya for the holiday?" The minute she said it, she felt like she should have stopped at 'yeah'. She almost forgot about the not so great relationship he had with his father.

"Thank you." Hiro said as she handed him the drink. "Yeah my father didn't really care." Hiro kept himself to that, he wanted to keep things pleasent. The rest of his family, Meg, had been missing for a long time. Last Hiro heard she was in London somewhere...maybe he could find her during break.
"Um..where should I put my trunk?" He asked still standing by it.

"You can just put it to the side outta the fireplace," she replied as she took another seat and sat Indian-style on it. She couldn't believe how quickly the place got cold despite its stuffiness. The place was already filling in like a complicated maze, which she had to remind to move away so Hiro wouldn't bump into such things. Even with his cane, the flat had an element of surprise.
As the periodic reminder of Christmas being just the next day, she grinned again. "Merlin, I can't believe it's going to be Christmas again already! Felt like it was summer jus' two months ago." She rubbed her hands together to keep her warmth. She had to find a way to heat up the place. "There's gonna be Christmas carols, lights..." She felt like she was missing something. Looking around, she realized what wasn't in the room. "Dude, Chris doesn't have a Christmas tree. How sad, man."

Hiro moved his trunk of to one side with a bit of difficulty. The place seemed to be a bit of a mess and several things lay haphazardly on the floor. Also there seemed to be a draft in the apartment making it slightly cold. Of course pointing this out would be rude so Hiro kept it to himself. Flicker, being cold blooded, moved under Hiro's shirt to use his warmth for himself.
"So what's the purpose of having a christmas tree anyway?" Hiro asked after taking a drink. He hadn't moved much since their arrival, he still stood in about the same location feeling weird in this new place.

Through a series of expressions, Charlie went from wide eyes, a know-it-all smirk, a knitting of the brows, a biting of the lower lip, and a thought out "Hmm." "Hmm. Uh... well. Here's the thing. Uh... Santa Claus used to be really confused at putting the presents when he came by. He'd put it in cupboards, closets... it was a game o' 'where's the presents?'. So the people decided to make a landmark he couldn't miss-- a tree. And then it evolved to decoratin' and stuff, so that's why it's there." She was pretty satisfied with her answer. She even believed it herself.
(alright, so maybe Santa Claus doesn't exist in RL or in the wizarding world...)

(Awesome story ;D)
Hiro had heard of the legend of Santa Claus many times and though he knew it wasn't real he also made sure to keep the illusion real for the benefit of others. Of course he just knew about the basics of christmas so her explanation of the tree made perfect sense.
"Well it seems like we'll have a hide and seek party tomorrow." Hiro said as he made his way closer to where the seats were. He still had a number of questions about the holiday. "What about the things beyond presents, you mentioned carols earlier what else happens during the holidays?"

( ;D )
Charlie grinned. Though she wasn't an expert on the history of Christmas, she had her own stories and theories on the holiday. She shifted around on her seat to before going into detail of the holiday. "Carolers are guys and girls who go 'round the neighborhood singing a bunch of Christmas-y songs. They're always talking 'bout figgy pudding, but I dunno what that is, so we don't give it to them."
She tapped her chin in wonder, trying to think if there was anything else she could really think of. "I guess the only thing I can tell you is that we have a big dinner both on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day-- well, the second day's dinner is the leftovers-- and then on Christmas Day, we look under the tree and in the stocking for gifts. Some reason Santa stopped givin' me gifts, but I don't hate him no more-- he's got thousands of other kids to care about." So she still believed in Santa. No one really bothered to tell her the truth, or even let it slip.

"Well that's very thoughtful of you." Hiro said as she wrapped up her story. This was quite the learning experience for Hiro. By now Hiro had gotten aquanted to the cold and the room. He now stood next to one of the open seats, not quite ready to sit.
"What presents can fit in socks?" Hiro questioned trying to learn as much as he could before the rest of the family returned.

(sorry for the delay. I went through an AP OD and a halfway slump.)
Charlie thought about his last question for a second. "The crappy ones. Like half price candy and school supplies," She went to tilting the chair every once in a while. "So this really your first time celebratin' Christmas? Never had a Christmas present before?"

(bogus)
Hiro was beginning to sit down in the chair he was by when Charlie started asking him the questions (which brought him back up to attention). Still standing he began to answer her questions.
"Actually Drew and I exchange gifts before he returns home for break." Hiro continued to explain about his first year at Hogwarts and how Drew had gotten him a gift. Hiro felt bad about not having anything to return so the next year he and Drew exchanged gifts and had been doing it ever since. "...But that's as much celebrating that I've done for the holiday."

Charlie still felt a little shocked about his not celebrating the prominent holiday. And she had something to say about it if it wasn't for the sudden jingle of keys and the turning of the door. Jumping out of the seat, she opened the door before the person on the other side could she was pretty surprised to meet the bottom end of a Christmas tree. "Dude! You got it! You got the tree!"
Chris was pretty surprised to see her appear so quickly. He was sure she was going to be a little late. "Well yeah, man. What's Christmas without the tree? Help me out here." He heaved the thing in with her help, but it didn't take a lot of labor since it was relatively small for the apartment. "Jus' attach it to that stand and..." Chris then noticed Hiro being there. "Hey, Hiro, man! How's it hanging since I last saw ya?" Indeed there had been some time since the last encounter.

"So much for hide and seek." Hiro said quietly at the mention of a tree. When he heard the keys outside Hiro had moved back to where his luggage was to get out of the way and to find his house warming gift.
"The O.W.L.S. have been killing me. Nothing but studying since last break." Hiro replied while pulling out what he had kept cushioned with his clothes. "This is for your new apartment." He said as he handed Chris a decorative piece of pottery. "The shop keeper said it would look really well on an end table or something."

Chris groaned as if in pain. "O.W.L.s for you, too, huh? Those things are thorns in your side. But I doubt it'll be a big hassle for you, Hiro. Charlie, though..." He brushed the top of her head as she nudged him out of the way. But as he regained his composure, he was met with Hiro's present. "Dude, thanks!" He accepted it gratefully, putting it in the nearest end table that he had-- on top a box marked "Books and Albums". He once had a photography phase.
"Hey, ya wanna sit? I bought some stuff. Coffee's almost rare here, since these Brits love their tea. Or maybe some--" Ding! "Hold that thought, man. That's the door, I think." He dropped the bags of grocery and opened the door. In came a hustle and bustle of people, obviously the rest of the Jones family.
"Dude, you could tell me when you stop walkin'!" Mike shouted. "Sorry, this book's good!" Replied Dan. "Happy Holidays, sports!" Tobias cheerfully exclaimed. "Oh my Merlin! London is absolutely pooosh," said an aloof Tammy.
Charlie slipped by and got to Hiro's side. "Here comes the parade of freaks..." she muttered under her breath.
"CHARLENE!" Tammy said happily.
"Oh Merlin..."
