The line of what appeared to be horseless carriages waited silently, guarded by the silent gargoyles perched at the gates leading onto Hogwart's grounds. Visible to only those that had seen death, the threstrals teetered to each carriage tossed their heads and pawed at the ground, tails flickering with their annoyance to be off.
Light was just seeping down into the valley that nestled Hogwarts School of Witchcraft of Wizardry, filtering through the pink and orange air as the sun began to crest the mountains in the distance. The fog of early morning still clung heavily to the air like a damp blanket, not yet banished by the rising light.
Despite the dreary conditions, anticipation buzzed silently through the air.
Over the past few years, for reasons most obvious to the inhabitants of the school, trips to the all-wizarding village known as Hogsmeade had been few and far between. But now, with the opening of spring, another one was finally at hand, privy to all students in their third year or more that had the proper permission. Any minute now, those said students would come down through the great doors of the school from the remnants of their breakfast, a full day away from the school ahead of them.
It was almost a normal event in a sea of irregularity in the Wizarding world. Almost, as a handful of Aurors did dot the scene; two at the gate to correspond names to the list of those students allowed to go to the village, and about four others periodically spaced among the carriages. Allowing some leniency in security did not mean a lack of it.
(( All students year 3+ may either begin posting here and start your journey to Hogsmeade and/or post at your leisure in the Hogsmeade board and subboards. Hogwarts Staff, Ministry Aurors and Hitwizards, and other adult characters in the wizarding world also encouraged to attend!))
