Night was looming, the light was fading away. The cheerful voices of the rest of the students began to die down as they slowly returned back to the castle. Oh how Sora wished that he would join them in their fun, just hang around with friends or cause random trouble, but unfortunately he was here due to something else.
Something much more troubling.
The sudden gust caused Sora to clutch his black cloak tighter, trying to warm up. Waiting in an cold alleyway between Zonkos and a bookstore was doing wonders on his warmth. He leaned against the wal, looking downwardsl, trying to be unnoticable. A shadow moved in front of him, causing Sora to quickly look up and scan the alleyway. Nothing.
Damn paranoia. He continued to watch and wait, listening as the last of the students made their way back to the castle.

"Well, I must say that I'm a little surprised that you came."
The sharp, female voice broke through the silence that was settling over the emptying streets of Hogsmeade as the mass of chattering Hogwarts students retreated back to the magical school, back to the safety of the heavy stone walls.
But one remained, and Aeris had to admit to her surprise. He had resisted for so long, resisted his potential, that Aeris wondered if he would ever falter. Now...there he was, waiting in the shadows, waiting for her. Was he finally ready to face his destiny? Time to find out.
"Sora, my dear, how lovely to see you," Aeris said with a mischevious smile, her blue eyes twinkling evilly from behind her dark curtain of midnight hair. Her heeled shoes clicked menacingly on the cobblestones as she emerged from where she had been eyeing the teenager from the shadows at the end of the alley, approaching him with the grin still fixed on her face.
Standing before Sora, her eyes nearly level with his, the older witch raised a pale hand to brush her slender fingers across his cheek, cocking her head to the side as she gazed at him, her eyes thoughtful. After staring at him in this way for several silent moments, Aeris finally spoke, her voice a barely audible whisper.
"So innocent, you claim. If you are so innocent...why are you here, my dear?"

Sora watched as the older witch came in view, feeling the temperature began to wind down. He listened to her footsteps echo around him as she continued her way towards him. He knew her well, along with her partner-in-crime.
Aeris Rivers, Deva extraordinaire.
They had met when he was younger, when he was still in the United States. She was his tutor in the Dark Arts, courtesy of his father. He was still amazed at all the knowledge he gained from her. All of the shadow magic was mainly taught to him by her. Unfortunately, his father didn't know all of Aeris' ties with the 'other side'. He was fifteen when she asked him to join their side. He was still naive about the world at that time. He never went back to her,
"...Hello, Aeris...Long time..." he said sliently, though his voice was heard. Not reacting to her finger being slowly dragged across his cheek, he continued on,
"...How's life..." he said, totally avoiding her question.

Aeris shook her head at him, tutting lightly as she let her hand drop back to her side. The wind was starting to pick up as the cool night descended upon them, enveloping them in a world of darkness, a world of shadow. A few dead, crinkled leaves skittered across the cobblestones of the alleyway as the wind caught up their brittle lightness, adding to the eerie feeling that was already filling the alley, surrounding the witch and the wizard.
"Didn't your parents ever teach you to answer the questions that those superior to you pose? Actually," she interuppted herself, placing a blood-red tipped nail on her chin thoughtfully, "I believe it was I that taught you that. Forgetting our lessons already, my dear?"
Her head still cocked to the side, Aeris surveyed Sora through narrowed blue eyes, looking him over thoroughly, up and down. He had changed since she had last seen him up close, when he was a mere 15 year old. In the few years since they had last crossed paths like this, he had matured physically. He was stronger now, that much was apparent. There was also a glint in his eyes now, a glint that had been absent before. What it was, Aeris could not put her finger on it...
"That's a mistake, Sora. Leaving, turning away...it was all a mistake. Luckily, I am willing to forgive these mistakes. Why?" she asked, turning from Sora to slowly pace the tight space between the two buildings. Returning her eyes to him, watching him, Aeris answered her own question.
"Simple. Because you belong with us. Aros and I, the rest of the Deva...you could learn so much from us. Your mind is begging for darkness, begging for the knowledge that we can give you. You're trying to fight it. Don't fight it, Sora. Come with me, and I'll show you the power that you could have, that you will have if you let yourself have it," she finished in a voice barely above a whisper, stopping before him again to stare him down, her sharp gaze never wavering.

A bell rang in the distance, breaking the silence as Sora pondered what she had said. He couldn't help but silently agree with what Aeris just said. The Deva could teach him a lot of things, much more things than if learned for himself. If anything other than dark and evil, the Deva was a curious group. They held power over key people and was quick and silent like the wind. Catching a Deva in the act was like capturing smoke with just a person's bare hands.
But other than that, Sora believed that the Deva were absolutely crazy. He totally rejected their ideas and the way they fought for it.
But there was something in the back of his mind...beckoning him to at least listen to what Aeris had to say.
A drunken yell a few ways off brought Sora back into the now. Sora looked up at the Deva member, a stoic expression on his face,
"...Your goals and ideals...they're are as dark as your heart. I will never fight for your desires...even with the vast amounts of power you guys hold..." he said, never breaking from her stare.

Aeris' gaze didn't waver from Sora's face as the sounds of the village around them broke through the silence of the night. Her blue eyes were steady as she stared into his firm eyes, watched his expressionless face, listened to his declaration.
"If you really believe that...then why are you here?" Aeris asked him in a low voice, standing mere inches from his body, her inky black robes billowing around both of them as the cool wind tore around the light fabric.
Aeris had suspected that the young wizard wouldn't just up and join the Deva at the snap of a finger. On the contrary, she had been prepared for his denial, of his pledge of allegience to the "good" side. Sora was still young and naive, a stubborn teenager. Convincing him that the path to darkness was indeed the destiny that was beckoning for him would be tough.
But Aeris wasn't about to give up. The Deva member had seen things in Sora that he probably hadn't seen yet in himself. He belonged with them, and, despite his concerns, his refusal, Aeris wasn't going to give up until she coaxed the darkness out of him, made him see just how right it was.

Sora stilled the urge to shiver as a cold breeze blew past him. His concentration was completely focused on the question Aeris had presented him. He truly didn't know why he was here. He had gotten many letters from Aeris but he never replied to any of them. This was the only time they had gotten together. The letter was also the only time Aeris asked him to meet her. He could've just burnt it like the other letters but he didn't. He chose to reply to it and made plans to meet her
The meeting was supposed to be him telling Aeris, or Aros if he was with her, to shove off and leave him alone. Now, he felt that his plan had gone horribly wrong.
Sora was silent, not knowing what to say to her question. Getting a bit of courage, he steeled his gaze at Aeris' eyes,
"...I came here to tell you to stop sending me letters. I want you to get the hell out of my life..." he said, his voiced laced with deadly venom.

The cool, tinkling sound of Aeris' laughter rang out in the night, filling the alleyway with it's light yet wickedly-etched tune as the witch regarded Sora. A stray black cat, it's eyes glinting silver in the pale moonlight that was creeping it's way into the alley, wandered over the the pair amidst the laughter, twining itself around the young wizard's legs as Aeris' laughter began to die down and she resigned herself to merely shaking her head at him, dismissing the tone evident in his voice.
"You expect me to believe that, love? You can't tell me that you even believe that yourself. I send you countless letters, which you ignore for so long, but as soon as I offer you a chance to meet with me, you're there. You're didn't come all the way down here just to tell me to sod off, and you know it," she accused him, poking a slender, crimson-tipped finger gently into his chest as she kept her eyes locked firmly with him.
"So you want to get rid of me...Would you kill me, Sora? Would you stand right here, right here before me, and kill me? Everyone would think you were so brave, that you were a hero, ridding the world of one more Deva member. To them, it would be heroism, but it's not. That's sugar-coating, masking, the truth; the fact would still remain that you killed me, murdered me. And do you know what? You would enjoy it. You may not admit it now, but you would enjoy it, would revel in the sight of my lifeless body, in the knowledge that you held the power to do it."
"Come, my dear. I know why you resist so. You think that you're innocent, that you're not like us, that you could never stoop to doing what we do. But you're wrong. As soon as you cast that killing curse, your innocence would be gone. And you know just as well as I do that you wouldn't hesitate to do it," Aeris told Sora in a spine-tingling voice, so low that her words were barely audible over the slight whistling of the wind rushing through the narrow crevice between the two buildings.

Sora didn't know what to say, his voice seemed to be lost as he listened to what Aeris had just said with rapt attention. In his mind, he kept denying that what Aeris was spewing forth were blantant lies. He kept telling himself that he was good and whatever Aeris said were just complicated lies. It became his mantra but unfortunately the rational portion of his brain intervened.
She was right...
He would love it if he had the courage to draw his wand and cast the deadliest of Unforgivables upon Aeris. She was right...he gain extreme pleasure by watching her lifeless body fall to the ground. That thought didn't scare him much thought there was one specific thought that chilled him.
He did have the power to do it...
Sora continued to be silent, his gaze softening slightly before hardening once more. He had let his guard down for a second but he wouldn't drop it anymore. He took a foward step, now truly face-to-face with the woman,
"...Don't judge me...you know nothing about me..." Sora hissed, his eyes glaring daggers at her.

Aeris' crimson lips twisted into a cruel smile as she watched Sora contemplate her words. She had seen the flicker in his eyes, that brief moment when the mask behind his eyes had faltered, giving her a glimpse of the battle that was truly going on within his mind.
"You're weakening, my dear," Aeris pointed out, the corners of her piercing eyes crinkling as she continued to smile triumphantly at the boy before her.
"Stop denying yourself what you truly want. I saw it in your eyes...my words rang true with you, did they not? Those are not the thoughts of the innocent, Sora. No, they are the thoughts of those like us."
As she listened to his response, Aeris shook her head softly, her eyes pitying as she replied, "You think I know nothing about you? There you are wrong. You showed much of yourself to me during our teachings, and you show much of yourself to me now, though you deny it. You're determined, talented, power-hungry... My dear, I'm am not naive, nor am I blind. You emanate exactly what the Deva is looking for. You are what we want, and we are what you want..."

Sora thought he saw red in his vision, his hand shaking to feel the smooth handle of his wand. He wanted to curse Aeris into oblivion, though he knew it would just acknowledge what Aeris said as right. His stoic facade seemed to disintegrate as one powerful emotion was displayed on his features.
Anger. Pure unadulterated anger.
He didn't care if his emotions was going to get the best of him but all he really felt right now was to feel Aeris' broken body in his hands. Consequences be damned.
The wind seemed to halt, as if listening to the confrontation between him and the Deva woman.
"I'll show you what I want..." He said without any emotion in his voice, drawing his wand from his pocket slowly.

An evil smirk curled onto Aeris' perfectly crimson lips, her dark chocolate eyes glinting with the first feelings of triumph as she watched the facade that Sora had been touting start to crumble. Dark, flashing eyes stared hard into hers, the rage coursing through the young wizard's body clearly evidenced on his face.
Perfect, the Deva witch thought to herself, still smirking, as she watched Sora's hand grasp his wand, watched him raise the thin magical weapon towards her as his body trembled with unsuppressed anger. This behaviour of his...it was the first sign that she was getting somewhere. The young man was angry, yes, but it was why he was angry that enthused Aeris.
"Why the resentment, my dear? Struck a nerve, have I? You're acting in this delightful manner because part of you--the part that longs to join our forces--knows that I'm right. But that other part--that nasty little thing they call conscience--is trying to hold you back. Do you really hold anger for me? Or is it anger towards your conscience, for attempting to keep you from getting what you want?"
"You know, the fact that you have your wand directed at me at this moment...it does not bode well for you, dearie. Do you plan on hurting me? On killing me? My dear, what evil thoughts..." Aeris said with mock concern, giving a soft laugh as she took a step back from Sora, drawing her own wand from the pocket of her inky robes.
"You want to show me what you really want? Do it. Show me. Every curse you cast towards me strengthens the dark part of your mind, advances it one step closer to overtaking your conscious. Soon...well, you will see," Aeris hissed at him as she slashed her wand swiftly through the air before her, the whistling that the thin shaft of wood made as it cut through the air masking her whispered incantation as she sent a simple Stinging Hex Sora's way.

Sora payed no attention to Aeris' words, casting them off as misleading words. He believed what he believed and she believed what she believed. The rational portion of his mind tod him to walk away and don't look back though the devil on his shoulder beckoned him to attack Aeris, to cause pain to her. Consequences be damned.
Eyes widenening at the incoming spell, he shifted his weight, moving to his left as the spell whizzed by him. Gripping the magical wooden weapon, he whipped it at Aeris,
"Stupefy!"

A swiftly conjured shield charm caused the spell to rebound safely away from Aeris, hitting a dented, grimy garbage can a few feet away and causing it to tumble over. As the loud, booming crash from metal hitting pavement reverberated through the narrow alleyway, Aeris grinned at Sora.
The dark witch was absolutly delighted at the show that Sora was giving. The anger, the desire to cause pain, the look in his eyes...It confirmed nearly everything that she had hypothesized about the teenage wizard. Now, if only he would stop being so stubborn!
"Bombarda!" Aeris yelled as she pointed her wand at Sora's rage-filled body, watching as a deep crimson light sped towards him. She wanted to start small, coax the darkness from Sora with simple curses. Then the real fight would begin.

Sora cursed, diving to his left to evade the spell. He heard a small explosion as the spell collided against the ground, right where Sora was. Dirt rained down upon him from the spell, leaving a small crater behind where the spell impacted on the ground.
His eyes widened slightly, looking up at the Deva witch who looked like she was playing with him. Sora wasn't sure if he was going to last long against her. She was a deadly witch while he was just a kid who was still in school.
His eyes spotted a broken mirror against the wall. With a quick wave of his wand, the mirror shattered fully. He then waved his wand towards Aeris, the shards levitating and zoomed towards the woman.
