It couldn't have been past 2:00am when Lucas finally managed to struggle his way back to the common room. With loaded arms and loaded pockets, the Ravenclaw seventh year had received way too much food from the elves. He'd gone to the kitchens for a snack and ended up hauling a three-course meal back to the House. Lucas didn't really mind though, considering he actually was pretty hungry and the elves had been nice enough to wrap it all up for him to carry. The more he ventured to the kitchens, the more he loved those little creatures.
"Ow!" Lucas grumbled as he waddled past Stoney, the gargoyle and he decided to whack Lucas in the head. He rubbed the stop gingerly, knowing there was going to be a bump there very soon. He grumbled about it for a moment but continued into the empty common room. Reaching the fireplace that was still lit. Lucas sat down carefully so he didn't squash the sweets in the pockets of his pajama pants and placed his mountain of food of the floor. He pulled everything out of his pockets, as well as out of the front pocket of his Uncle Keith's sweater he always wore.
Then he began to chow down.
Lucas stuffed the pastries in his mouth, the sweet taste only making him more hungry. He chewed quietly with his mouth barely able to close because it was so full. It was only when the boy had gone into full-out pig mode that he heard feet coming down the stairs. With his cheeks bulging, Lucas' head turned slowly to see who was going to catch him in the act.

It had been a rough night for Layla. It had taken her the better part of an hour for her to finally fall asleep. The little bit of sleep she had been able to get was uncomfortable and restless. It wasn't a pleasant dream, but she couldn't remember a single bit of it when she woke. She looked at her watch and sighed. Finding herself uncomfortable and hot under her sheets, she threw them off and slid into her slippers, heading towards the stairs.
At first she thought she wanted to be alone near the fireplace, maybe the soft flicker would invite sleep to her tired eyes. But when she heard the soft sounds indicating that there was someone else, she was glad she wasn't going to be alone. She took the last few steps slowly and spotted the other Ravenclaw, almost mistaking him for a chipmunk. Quickly covering her hand to try to cover her giggles, she shook her head. "Hungry, I guess? Or just not wanting any of it go to waste?"

"'Inda boff," Lucas answered with his mouth full, realizing his words probably made no sense. He held up his hand, indicating that he needed a second as he finished chewing and swallowed the pastry he'd so violently shoved in. With a shy smile, he looked at the girl who'd come downstairs. Obviously he knew her, but he hadn't ever really talked to her all that much. He knew her name was Layla and that she was one of the Ravenclaw prefects, but that was about it.
Looking down his mess, Lucas spotted the flask of pumpkin juice he'd been given and took a swig of it. He sighed contently and licked his teeth, making sure there wasn't anything stuck in them. "Kinda both," he repeated what he'd said before now that his mouth was empty, "It all just looked so good." He chuckled softly and flashed her a warm smile. Motioning to the floor across from him, Lucas offered Layla a seat.
"Did you want to sit and pig out too?" he offered, "There's plenty to go around."

Laughing at the response, Lucas reminded her of a certain Head Boy she knew. She didn't know Lucas very well other than the occasional study session when all the 7th years randomly pulled together and the sporatic greeting in the common room. She felt less anxious as he offered her a smile and extended an invitation to her.
"I'd love to," she accepted, taking a seat near the fire across from her classmate. "I just don't know how good I am at pigging out any more. It's been a while." Scanning the assortment of treats on the floor and picked up what looked like a chocolate chip muffin and purposefully picked off the smallest bit off the edge with her fingers and gingerly placed it in her mouth, trying to hide her grin as she teased him.

A smirk graced Lucas' lips as he watched his fellow Ravenclaw pick up one of the treats he'd brought back. He snickered as she nibbled on a tiny little piece of it and he picked up his own muffin to show her how it was no. "No, no. This is how you do it," he told her in mock seriousness, opening wide and taking a big, noisy bite of it, "Om nom nom nom." His cheeks puffed out wide again as his mouth filled up as it had before. Lucas tried not to choke on the muffin as he chuckled at himself.
"See?" he told her once he'd swallowed again, "Easy." Lucas grinned a cheeky grin and took a smaller, more humanly bite of the muffin that was nearly half gone.

Layla's head fell back as she laughed at the boy's demonstration. "Oh my, I do apologize! Please excuse my ignorance," she exclaimed, matching tone. She then took a huge bite of her own, finding that her technique was a bit rusty. She looked up and her eyes opened up slighty as she started laughing hard, almost choking on the chunk of muffin. Her mouth stuffed and her cheeks puffed out, she made a mumble and made a gesture towards the pumpkin juice. "Bingk!"

Lucas couldn't help but laugh as Layla threw her head back and nearly choked on the huge bite she'd taken. He looked around for where he'd dropped the flask and grabbed it. As a courtesy, considering he'd already taken a sip, he wiped the top off with his sleeve quickly before holding it out to her. "Easy there, champ," Lucas joked with a smile, "Maybe you should just ease back into the pigging out. It is an art, afterall." Already, Lucas was starting to feel a bit better. The bump on his noggin had put him in a bit of a funk because it had actually hurt, but sitting there and laughing with Layla was taking his mind off it. He was glad it had been her who found him.

Layla had barely noticed Lucas wipe off the top to the flask. She really didn't care she just wanted the ability to move her mouth again. Taking the flask, she tipped the liquid into her mouth, already feeling the muffin moisten and condense. Finally able to chew, she swallowed the chunk after a few moments. Laughing again, she felt her face get hot and red. "I guess so," she admitted between giggles. After taking another swig from the flask, she wiped the top off and handed it back. "Thank you. But I think I'll just enjoy the flavor from now on."
She took a regular sized chuck from the muffin this time and split it again before popping it in her mouth. "I'll leave the pigging out to the master," she added, bowing her head slightly to admit defeat.

"Aw, chin up. We can't all be great pigs," Lucas retorted cheekily with a smile. He knew his mother would be so proud of him if she knew her son was a champion at eating more than his fair share. An eye roll and a headshake seemed to say it all, in his mind.
Finishing off the muffin quickly, Lucas glanced down at the pile. His hand hovered over the sweets as he wiggled his fingers and scrunched up his face an concentration. What to choose? It all just looked so good. But finally the blonde-haired boy decided on a chocolate chip cookie. Now if only there was some milk...
"Oh, God bless you elves," Lucas mumbled allowed as he discovered another flask in the midst of it all that had milk in it. He pulled the lid off, dunking his cookie in the liquid and "mmm"-ing contently as he took a bite. "There is nothing more delicious than milk and cookies," Lucas stated, "Mmm mmm mmmmm."

Smiling and letting a giggle escape, she picked at her muffin. Layla watched Lucas sort through the pile of food and find what he was looking for. She was actually kind of impressed at the rate he was eating. It really was unnatural, yet entertaining. "Perfect timing too, huh? When is it better to pig out other than at 2am?" Of course it had nothing to do with a low dose of insomnia. Grabbing a similar flask, similar to find it warm to the touch. She opened the cap and sniffed softly, smiling as she recognizing the sweet smell.
"Ohhhh, I claim this one," she stated seriously, clutching the flask to her chest. "Hot chocolate is superior to all." Smiling triumphantly, she took a sip and made her own gesture of satisaction.

"Thief," Lucas mumbled when he looked up and saw Layla claiming a flask to herself. He smiled though, to show he was only kidding. He'd staked a claim on the flask of milk when he double-dipped his cookie in it.
The Ravenclaw boy knew he needed to slow down. The sweets were only going to leave him with a stomach ache and he really didn't want that, but it was all too good to stop. However as he reached for something else, Lucas decided he wasn't going to devour it in milliseconds. "You really think we can eat all this?" he asked her, somewhat seriously. It would be downright shoddy the next day if they left it out, but it might have been more than both their stomachs could handle.

Sticking her tongue out at being called a theif she took another long sip. "Ahhhh. SO good." Other than being delicious, the warmth was comforting and she hoped it put her to bed soon. She let an involuntary yawn escape her and she took a bite from her muffin again. Glancing at the rest of what the elves had provided, she wasn't so sure about eating all of it. "Well, let's treat this more like a marathon, not a race," she suggested. It might take them a while, but it was apparent that Lucas had a good appetite and Layla could put away a good chucnk despite her slim appearance. "Besides I'm wide awake an eating junk food is better than just staring at the ceiling trying to fall asleep."

"Eating junk food is infinitely better than a lot of things," Lucas added cheekily with a sly grin. He let out a soft chuckle and glanced over the mountain again. He frowned at it, feeling bad that he'd gotten all this from the elves. They didn't really have to give him that much and he should have left some of it, but at least now he wasn't going to eat it all on his own.
Lucas looked up at Layla, a slight frown causing the typical, squinty, moody-broody expression to creep onto his face again. "What's got you awake?" he asked in a somewhat concerned tone. He picked up on the hint that something must be bothering her or else she would have been asleep like everyone else.

Smiling again and taking a small sip again, she nodded. "Agreed. Most definitely." Looking over the pile of treats, Layla decided she needed to try a few other things before filling herself up. She found a short stack up cookies and inspected them closely to find that they were of Oatmeal.
Layla looked up at Lucas, trying to keep her face blank. It wasn't too hard to accomplish since she wasn't quite quite sure how to feel. "I don't really know," she said quietly, looking down again and picking at her new cookie. It wasn't a complete fib. She knew there were things that were bothering her, but then there was the sort that she really couldn't put her finger on. "I guess I've just been restless. You know with the end of our seventh year and all." As she said it, she realized that it was part of the truth. "I guess I'm nervous."

Lucas nodded in agreement, realizing how quickly the end of the year seemed to be approaching. He hadn't really figured out what he was going to do yet; basketball had always been a dream of his but that would mean he would have to attend Muggle college of some sort to get noticed by scouts. But attending college would mean he would have had to attend a Muggle high school. And that just wasn't possible. On some level, he'd always known basketball would only ever be recreational for him, but that didn't make it any easier to let go of. As of late though, writing had become another passion of his. That, at least, existed in the wizarding world.
"Yeah, the end of the year does seem kinda scary," the blond-haired boy admitted to the girl, "Have you thought much about what you want to do after school?"
