Allegra nodded back, smiling softly at him and giving the top of his head a gentle skritch. "You guys have been apart before and you've been okay. You'll manage through this too," she told him.
"So how do you think she'll feel if she does find out you skipped classes?" she asked, having a good idea what the answer would be.

"She'd be pissed..." he answered with an embarassed smile, a huge accomplishment considering how lousy he was feeling. They had both talked about the time when they would have to be separated, him to the Auror Academy, her to follow her Astronomy studies further, but he had never expected it to come so soon. If she found out he was slacking, and especially for this reason, she'd be mad as a wet kneezle.

"Me too..." Allegra answered, slapping the top of his head lightly, glad to see the smile finally. "And then I'd have to put on my Mom face... Andrew Thornton, your father and I sent you thousands of miles away, paid a buttload of money, so you and your sister could get the finest wizarding education possible. Did your cousins get this opportunity? Did your father or I get this opportunity? Are you just going to throw it all away...?"
Allegra stopped, biting back the words she knew her mother would have finished with... for a girl ... Dolores Thornton had never taken kindly to the idea of her son dating so seriously at such a young age. Chances are, when she found out this latest development, she's be a little more than relieved.

"We're doing Patronusus today in Raynor's class," Drew mumbled, giving a long sigh. "How am I supposed to manage a Patronus today?"
He had been practicing for a full year and had finally manged a fairly decent coporeal patronus within the last month or so. The only problem was his strongest, happiest memories now resided hundreds of miles away.

She skritched his head again and smiled at him. "You'll do it because then, after class, you'll be able to write her and tell her how awesome it was," Allegra answered. "And your happy thought is going to be how proud she will be of you, right? How happy she'll be to get that letter..."
Allegra answered her brother's sniffs with one of her own. It broke her heart to see him hurting like that, but she knew he was strong. She knew he'd be okay if he just got out of bed.

Drew nodded, feeling the truth in her words and smiling at the small comfort they gave him. He paused a moment, thinking it all over, before looking at her, flashing a crooked smile, and asking, "Can I have your Defense notes tonight?"

"IF... you go to class..." Allegra answered, poking him in the chest and smiling back. He was out from under the covers, sitting up and attempting a smile. Good signs in her book. She figured the temptation of her notes added to the prospect of writing Alhana would be enough to get him out of bed. He'd miss breakfaast, but she knew he had a good size stash of food lying around the common room.

"I'm in the Pit of Despair and you're making me go to class..." Drew answered and though he was still upset, his smile was feeling a bit more natural on his face.
They had vacations still. Perhaps by then, her father would soften enough to allow him a visit. And all was not lost. She was still working on getting back to Hogwarts. In a couple of years, they'd both be apparating and it would make visits easier too. Allegra was right. They had managed before. They could do it now.
He swung his feet off of the bed and gave a deep sigh.

"Yes," Allegra answered back, giving him a small push to get him on his feet. "Because you'll never get to Buttercup if you stay down there, right?"
She looked at him standing there in his pajama bottoms and sweatshirt before giving a sigh. "Come here..." she said, hoping off the bed after him and pulling him into a hug. "You're going to be okay... I'm sure of it."

At first he stood there awkwardly for a while, but then he wrapped his arms around her as well, leaning his cheek against the side of her head and kissing her on the temple. "Thanks, Leggy..." he said, knowing she hated the nickname, but figuring he would be forgiven for it.
Besides, he had to do something to break the mood of sibling sappiness that was overwhelming the boys dorm.
